Hey Kenny, remember at least episode 13's post credit scene is vital to understand the start of episode 14, but you can also watch the other post credit scenes in the other episodes, these episodes have them in season 2 post credit scenes : ep 12, 13, 20 and 22
Kenny did you notice that there were exactly 42 spots for students to get on. Its simply class a (20) + class b (20) and the two outsiders with mei and shinzo. Its so easy to predict who goes into the next round but as always thats something nearly noone would see on their first watch. But in the end, their was no reason to worry for anyone we know because all named characters get in the next round anyway
Deku winning this challenge all on his own, with nothing but his intelligence and training and without using his quirk once, is one of my favorite moments of the season. He is so determined to succeed that we see a confidence he rarely has, slamming the robot part to the ground, thus debuting to the world. Man, what a fantastic moment.
I love how Izuku's strategic mind can sometimes be a greater weapon than One for All. He went through all of grade school before UA without a Quirk, and his observational skills and thirst for knowledge really serve to help him adjust while he works on making One for All his own. And once he actually gets a handle on this Quirk? Oh boy...
Not having a quirk for so long gives Deku an advantage. Remember Cyclops from the X-Men? He lost the ability to turn his power off because of a childhood accident. So he spent most of his teen years with his eyes closed because he would have destroyed anything he looked at. When professor Xavier took him from that orphanage, he figured out that ruby quartz glasses would be able to stop the blasts from his eyes. But because of his teen years, Cyclops is a sighted person who knows how to navigate the world like a blind man. Knocking out the lights barely slows him down.
Deku's battle iq here is both amazing and chaotic as all hell. Like who comes up to a damn minefield and thinks 'what would be the best way to cross this? Pile the mines up and using a piece of metal, I'll just launch myself like a human missile. Oh and as a bonus I'll take the leaders out by slaming my makeshift shield on the other mines. Everything should turn out all right.'
This series is literally the highlight of my week. Kenny's excitement and Montana's analysis literally makes watching the show so amazing, especially is you know.whats coming.
It makes sense. I imagine there are very few people who aren't somewhat against Endeavor when he's introduced. Invested in him, sure, but it's a very deliberate choice by the story that he is not a good guy when we first meet him, so it was probably a safe bet to have that counter.
im always into characters that actually think things through instead of rushing down the battlefield just so they can throw some hands and for a shounen , it's great that MHA has plenty of them ( one of which being the MC himself ! )
If they had gone with 2 or 3 shows at a time.. they could have watched 2 episodes each which would have been a better way to watch.. but then they have to leave something for their patreons I guess
The Cavalry Battle will be about how well a pro can can hold there position in the ranks in both efficiency and popularity. As well learning how to coordinate with other heroes on the fly. Like there are situations were multiple agencies would work together to in order to handle a crisis. Or like how police, firemen, and ambulance teams would work to solve a indecent.
I love that this show blends elements of shonen/seinen with slice-of-life anime. There is such a large cast of characters with very distinct personalities, and half of the joy comes from watching those personalities interact with each other. On the other hand, the tournament arc is such a trope in shonen.
I love the writing in the first half of this season so much! Just little things like how Deku's victory here is pretty contrived, and yet it feels completely earned. He was clever, and took an educated gamble that ended up paying off.
I’d say this episode is the 1st time the background of MHA is actually mastered. There’s not a wasted FRAME in any part of foreground or background even in still shots. Between the many quirk introductions, but also just letting these people think and problem solve so wildly differently just adds so much flavor to their already RAPIDLY expanding personalities. And honestly BECAUSE their quirks call for such unique and different thinking, it’s easier to remember people’s powers more than their names at the beginning. I don’t have that problem, but don’t consider the guy willing to pick up dictionaries and calculators to watch TV as a good basis for that situation. (Relax I promise THAT part won’t be common in these comments.) Now let me push up my nerd glasses and proceed to show more details. Now before we go into the obstacle race outright, I gotta bring up how hilarious it is to have such incredibly reliable AND unreliable announcers at the same time. Present Mic has the quirk intros down pat, but I love how big of a jerk he is shamelessly to the kids and Aizawa. Even picking specific students to make fun of outright on national tv. Poor Iida looks DEVASTATED at the end. And it’s uncalled for to say Aizawa is the terrible teacher! All-Might is RIGHT THERE! We got Kirishima and Tetsu (I’ll just shorten that for my sanity sake) being redundant quirks, but when you really think about their quirks for longer than a moment, they likely have a LOT of differences. Kirishima is much more like Greed from FMA and likely has the same elements in his armor as his body, (so likely a carbon armor) and Tetsu completely changes his element altogether. Same effect but VASTLY different path and could be very different usage. But since they’re noobies, it’s just armor. Bakugo has probably more going on than anyone else other than Deku himself. And it’s ONLY visual. The guy AS he races is quite literally teaching himself to fly. We saw him propel himself a bit vs Deku in season 1, but he REALLY extends it here. It starts with him looking like he’s making his own staircase, but it just turns into a proper flight path as he goes. And he has this flying form for pretty much the rest of the show. He CHOOSES to fight Todoroki at the minefield, (which yes is allowed, just not recommended the entire race) and it honestly cost him to make it so much more personal in his 1 way rivalry. He COULD have set off the minefield himself on Todoroki, but chose not to, and chose not to keep flying. His ego got to him. And he is SO excited he got 3rd look how proud he is! Losing to the 2 people he SPECIFICALLY doesn’t want to lose to in the slightest while he’s ALREADY victory obsessed. I’ll point out a few great superhero references, Sero is basically Spider-Man but with tape dispenser elbows…which is…a choice. (Deku has a bit more Peter Parker inspiration) And Tokoyami is WITHOUT QUESTION Raven from Teen Titans. Just because you take an appearance of an animal doesn’t mean that’s your quirk for sure. So he’s not a Hawkgirl reference. (That comes later) Mei Hatsume is unironically just the perfect balancing act for the games. While the non hero kids don’t get the full formal training, they do have ways to compete. Not many 1st years are ready to quite literally build hover boots and a whole grapple systems for themselves from literally scratch, so she’s the standout. She’s not even competing for TV clout or a hero seat. (Maybe a BIT for clout but namely so big companies see her so she can work with the big developers for the gear.) She’s COMPLETELY invested in the support class and that needs just as crazy and diverse brain power to excel there as the heroes. Just…in a completely different way. Todoroki literally skates across the whole stage effortlessly and while he shows exactly why HE matters…all we hear is what makes his FATHER such a big deal. Just by relation the entire crowd knows he’s going to be the real deal and they expect this of him too. And he fittingly like his Dad is put in 2nd by his father’s rival’s successor. Which…we’ll get into that because it sounds like Dark Helmet describing how he’s related to Lone Star. I am your father’s brother’s cousin’s nephew’s former roommate. Which makes us essentially nothing. But despite ALL the crazy power details, crazy personalities and the background DRENCHED in literally EVERYONE learning and problem solving differently, none get it more than Deku himself…who is barely the focus at ALL in the race. Which is very much so on purpose. He goes quirkless for EVERYTHING. Tearing apart robots by HAND using busted pieces as big as HE is. (Don’t forget this kid pulled a TRUCK up a staircase and a trash heap and might even be stronger because OFA may get his muscles to grow back stronger…after they explode off.) He wraps the piece around him and just goes military style over the ropes. (And I think Bart Simpson actually did that same stunt at a military school once) AND uses the metal as a shovel at the end and they even show how he aimed his jump off the explosion at the end! AND he finishes off on a quadruple flip dive RIGHT off Todoroki and Bakugo’s back! This kid outsmarted EVERY person here just by being himself with no OFA needed. And provided him the exact means as to how that was made possible and I LOVE IT. And even better, THEY IMMEDIATELY PUNISH HIM FOR DOING IT THAT WAY. Let’s ignore the business course, they’re just doing their thing…with great hair. That one guy is going to look like Marge Simpson one day. And they literally chant “buy buy sell sell” We are IMMEDIATELY reminded just how well this competition is designed as the interim for the rounds happens. Showing 42 placements for the qualifier round. Which is perfect because there’s a spot for EVERY hero student since it’s THEIR lives in most effect by the competition, but also a few grace spots for other classes. And you can do your own mental math why they’d do well on certain obstacles and why they wouldn’t. Every Class B design is kept for the future no redesigning between seasons without reason. And if you know their powers, same applies to why they’d do well or do poorly. (Class B recommendations got 5th place and 39th. And the latter MIGHT be intentionally placed knowing her quirk. Their reps got 28th and 33rd. And THAT checks. They aren’t relevant often but they know WHY you should keep your eyes on them) If you can’t make the 42 marker, that’s your own fault for not training hard enough…Aoyama. And as it goes to the Calvary Battle, everyone is given a value. 10 mil BREAKS the game, but this IS hero competition. No one AIMS to be 2nd place. You either aim to succeed, or aim to be at the top. And EVERYONE wants to be at the top. For many that’s all that matters. So your options are work WITH the top guy, or make a team to take him on. And the business course just spelled out EXACTLY why what Deku did this round while ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT, does NOT show anyone why he’s useful to a GROUP. Winning might be a gimme for a protagonist, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good thing here. And that reason is NOT going to do him any favors in this next round.
I recall one book series I read about a group of super heroes in training (much like this) and one of the main characters has the power of luck. Basically if there's a chance of something happening they can make it happen.
(At 4:57) So basically… we got two hard durable anime boys, with piranha-like/bear trap-like jagged teeth, that look like "The Thing," from the _Fantastic Four,_ and "Colossus," from the _X-Men,_ who are remotely alike.
Sometimes winning leads to losing. Sometimes winning means losing. Fight for the top never stop till you get there! So that way I can take you down when I get there.
When I first watched this with my boyfriend I wasn't super into it, I thought it was good just not my type of show, but I promised him I'd watch the whole show with him, so we get to this episode, and the moment of deku making big brain moves and winning the race got me completely invested. Completely turned my opinion around. One of my favorite shows, hands down, and this episode is one of my favorites.
Definitely looking forward to two times a week! Y’all make my neurodivergent soul so fucking happy! Especially since mha is one of my more current hyperfixations

Episodes 2x3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, & 11 of My Hero Academia are ALL posted to Patreon now in their extended full length forms!

Forget the season, this is one of the best moments in the show
@@sebastianordonez2252exactly guys. One of my favorite moments. This tournament is really character defining.
Comment below if you would be HYPED for 2 episodes of My Hero Academia a week!
Would absolutely be very hyped for this idea
That would be the best idea!
That would make things go so much faster, please do that
PLUS ULTRAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!
Pleaseeeee
(At 3:50) I couldn't stop laughing, when Kirishima made _that_ entrance screaming, *"I'M ALIIIIIVE"* 😂
Forreal. It's so extra and funny 😁
4:31 Gotta admit. Montana is objectively correct here.
I wouldn't ever underestimate what Bakugou can do when he really wants anything.
Montana, you're excused for laughing at Kirishima's Quirk description 😂
I mean the author is a self admitted perv. the whole Mineta character and all. plenty of fun jokes all around
@@FenixNade I can at least respect that he's honest about it.
I love how Izuku's strategic mind can sometimes be a greater weapon than One for All.

Dude. This next challenge is a next level anxiety attack for Midoriya given the stakes. I would've punched out after hearing all that

There's a "Montana Hates Endeavor Counter" before he's even been introduced? 😅
I’m excited to see how high that number can get
It makes sense. I imagine there are very few people who aren't somewhat against Endeavor when he's introduced. Invested in him, sure, but it's a very deliberate choice by the story that he is not a good guy when we first meet him, so it was probably a safe bet to have that counter.

Ida really said: _T posing to show dominance_
Damnit I keep forgetting how good this arc is, it never fails to hype me up and get me excited for Deku and tear up alongside him when he succeeds

I'd love my hero to become bi-weekly! It's a long show, and your reacrtions to it are so good I just can't get enough!
Uh that's not what bi-weekly means lol
NOTHING hits harder than underdog Deku making big brain plays with that soundtrack playing. Nothing.

5:19 the bakugo scene from chapter 354 something is pretty cute
Oh having 2 episodes per week would be awesome
2 times a week release would be amazing.

I love this tournament arc so much. It is overall one of the better tournament arcs in anime.
The guy at 3:22 with the Quirk that litterally makes him look like a clown. I never noticed that before. What the heck kind of Quirk is that?!
The moment of shock when you see and remember Deku actually has muscles, is like when Tom Holland takes off his shirt in Spiderman
4:10 dirty minded😂
I’m happy Montana thought the same thing as me when it came to the “hardening quirk” lol
Im all in for you guys, well, Montana's reaction to the show. I would love to have two episodes a week

If you guys like Mei Hatsume, let me recommend a web comic.
Girl Genius is set in a Victorian-era Europe that has been destroyed by out of control mad scientists. Most of the heroes and villains are a lot like her.
