I like running armies that have themes, which means sometimes I don't have magic. Words cannot express the sorrow experienced when AI does the thing when you have no spells.
you can exploit "the thing" with big charge single entity monsters, stomping stacked dawis with stonehorn was never that great, i think i had like 300 kills for one charge.
Thats exactly how i play, no mages on Khorne armies, Ikit full of skaven slaves and gun teams with 3 stormvermin with halberds, full Black Guard of Naggarond and Black dragons with Malekith and so on
One time, the AI also manuevering, and as always blobs. And mighty lord kroak blast in there(1400 kills with 1 spell), and immidiatly caused army losed and win for me. That was hillarious
the worst i've seen was when i wanted to see if i could out swarm skaven with miners an put my 3rd army on ai control and they literally stood in a very very tight circle next to where they reinforced and stood there. i pulled the forces i controlled behind them an they did not move until they got attacked
The only time reinforcements stayed where they spawned in a blob for me was the kroak quest where BOTH ai lizardmen and skaven just sat where they came on for 55 mins. 3rd wave stayed, 2nd wave died half way and retreated and first got blown up by point capture skinks
@@belisarian6429not really. I mean yes if u trying to buff your skink army or grow settlements. But other than that and the special skink lords, its quick to gain if u just fight every battle
"AI developed over the course of decades" - TBF TW:WH1 has been around less than a decade, and my understanding is that introducing magic threw out a lot of CA's previous experience with AI out the window. [edited typo]
Thats what developed means , id have to disagree and not give the devs any slack. AI is purposely kept bad , but some of their decisions are blatantlt terrible.
I have never experienced this. They must have just put the AI they worked on for decades in my game specifically, because whenever I try to cast spells the AI just moves to get minimum casualties almost every time. Like-- what am I doing wrong???
For the first blob it formed because of unpathable terrain that forced the army to go past one point. For the second blob it formed because the AI uses fixed formations, so if you force the enemy army to rotate 180 degrees while the rest of yours is hidden they will all move through one point. Kairos is good for that, as he can fly over the center of their army and cast powerful spells. Also the AI only moves their forces if they aren't engaged in combat. If you send a tank hero into their army everyone it fights will not run away, or if you have a straight front line you can cast spells down it when the AI has attacked and hit everyone involved. It also works on archers that are firing.
For some reason AI is even more likely to blob on higher battle difficulty as it is programmed to be "more responsive" to the tactical situation. So it will change it's positioning depending on what the opponent does. Unfortunately that can be wildly abused in many ways to make it form those blobs. This is related to pathfinding issues as units of the same side do not try to go around each other but instead ignore each others existance & walk through each other. Unit collision will the slow down the crossing units effective movement, making it lag behind the current formation order until more and more units get caught in the blob. Easy AI will just go wide & rush at the player wich is why some battles get easier on harder battle difficulties.
Why they cannot just add condition to AI logic: "do not stuck". all strategies in wh3: 1-spend the AI missiles, 2-use one mage to bite enemies, 3-stuck enemies and kill with mass damage. All legendary streams are so boring with just repetative 3 strategies.
if they do not stack you can exploit it with dogs and chariots too, killing them 1 by 1, its what happens when they use this looong line and can't defend corners. also i started to use 20 min battle rule to stop myself from exploiting much, really makes battles more fun when you don't cheese and abuse AI that much.
Ah yes, very hard game, very good ai, thats is boring after some campaigns, even on legendary, and if they try to improve ai, or THEY make good ai, people cry that its too hard (like in pharaoh) cuz they lost one unit in very hard, stupid devs, stupid community, and wasted money for this crap.
