Brazil was good, but in the finals the played against Italy who played 3 days before in a gruelling match with extra time against Germany, they were visibly tired, while Brazil had a full week to rest, I remember it well. Pele dribbling ability was no way near Messi's
@@marcellogenesi6390 messi isnt fit to lace peles boots, they played on much more difficult pitches then, not the bowling green flat pitches of today. George best could dribble on pitches that looked like ploughed fields , pele had everything in his game. Messi isnt even the best of the current players , let alone the monster talents of yesteryear.
@@marcellogenesi6390 Pelé's dribbling ability was far better than Messi. I am currently producing an extensive film about Pelé and have watched over 500 clips of him playing for Brazil and Santos. Thrashing great European sides like Eusebio' s Benfica. Inventing the 'Cruyff' turn against Juventus in 1961 (he actually did the turn against Ballon D'or winner Sivori). Beating Barcelona, AC Milan (who included the great defender Cesare Maldini). Dribbling past 5 Inter Milan defenders in a tight penalty area to score (which included the great Trapattoni). Most people who think Messi is the best don't bother to do any research into Pelé, apart from watching a couple of World Cup '70 clips. At the Maracana stadium there is a plaque to commemorate a goal Pelé scored against Brazil Cup holders Fluminense where he took the ball on the edge of his own penalty area and beat all 11 opponents on his own to score. The radio commentary of the goal and newspaper reports are all online. There are newspaper reports online where he played against European champions across many countries and dribbled past 7 players to score, or 8 players to score, in front of sell out stadiums across Europe. I have seen film clips of him nutmegging opponents from 5 yards away. I saw him dribble and shoot perfectly with the left foot then right foot. Plus, he did it all on very rough, bumpy pitches, you can see the ball bouncing erratically on the surface as he Dribbles, but he still controls it. He does it in hard leather boots with opponents who can hack him down without getting sent off. Messi however, plays on surfaces as smooth as a carpet (he even refused to play on certain surfaces in USA) and in boots made with the latest technology to grip and feel the ball. Messi could never do what Pelé did if he had to play in those conditions. He hasn't even done most of what Pelé did while playing on perfect conditions. Football writer John Carlin, wrote in The Times newspaper in 2022, he is a Barcelona season ticket holder and has watched Messi's entire career. He was convinced Messi was the greatest. But when he started researching footage of Pelé he realised Pelé was the greatest of all time (his article is online). He described Pelé as Messi, Maradona and Ronaldo all in one player. Even Argentine manager Menotti (who coached Maradona and watched all of Messi's career) said "When you talk about football, don't bring Pelé into it because he is from another planet".
I could watch this save all day! And let’s not forget the initial pass, pinpoint cross and bullet header in the sequence - all world class too. Following this match, Banks and Pele formed a lifelong frienship.
Absolutely, people are amazed at the save, and rightly so, but the header from Pele was as a powerful as a shot. His leap was was so high too. And the cross from Alberto was stunning.
That Brazil side were pure class (they made every game seem like a bounce game in training) never hassled never panicked, always seemed as if they had tons of time on the ball! N wot a player Gersen was (not sure of the spelling) but he was every bit as gd as the bigger names in that 1970 side. 👍

@@paulstillwell3874how come you didn't mention how easy the Brazilian player beat the two English players to put the pass into pelè. I think Moore was one of the English players.
@@michaelpower4372 Jairzinho beats one English player, Terry Cooper. Cooper sticks a foot out to tackle him but Jair knocks it past him. Moore is chasing back but is a quite few yards from Jair so I don't think that would class as beating him too. He crosses for Pele who jumps above Alan Mullery
It's incredible that he was able to deflect it over the cross bar, being almost entirely underneath it. On antoher note, the speed and precision by Brazil on that play was incredible. The pass, the run, the leaping ability by Pele. Evth in full speed. You can literally see the bounces of that ball before he crosses it. Most players nowadays can't even cross it like that on these carpet pitches.
When you look at goal keeper’s from the archives they generally don’t look that great. This save from Gordon Banks looks spectacular even from todays standards.
A mere, supernatural header from O'Rei Pelé. Neither Maradona or Messi could make of this type. Especially, under pressure from defender, jumping parallel to stop the ball reaching O'Rei's head. Pelé 's neck arch & the power of his neck muscles, directs the ball like a rocket to the bottom corner of the net. How Banksy got down so fast & then scooped it over the bar, only the good Lord knows. Moore looks shell shocked at what he'd just witnessed. Pelé left dumbfounded, as he was already screaming goooooooaaaaallllll! As soon as the ball left his head lol.
Pele could jump 1.2 metres off the ground, the same as Micheal Jordan (basketball legend). Pele mastered every aspect of the game, heading, shooting, dribbling, left foot /right foot... And here he met the man who mastered goalkeeping. He is actually diving backwards towards his net with the ball flying away from him. Astonishing
Pele was all around two footed player, header, acrobatics, speed, power, sublime, physical ability, plus flawless technique. He was better than Messi, then Maradona and then Ronaldo both the phenomenon and Cristiano.
@@midfielder8131 That indeed Sir, is my summation also. Pelé was the most complete player in attributes. Yes, the header from Pelé is incredible, what a leap and still have the power and accuracy to head it downward into the corner. But then for Banks to scoop it up over the bar from 2ft off the floor. The whole sequence is football genius.
The whole thing is just poetry in motion..that pass to the wing..the defender eager to jump in on the tackle..the bounce of the ball as the cross comes beautifully in on a half volley on the touchline..floating directly onto peles head, which was textbook..and the save again on the half bounce ,tipped high over the bar..incredible..incredible ❤

Pele’s header was impeccable. 99.9% of headers that are inferior to this effort by O Rei end up in goal. Gordon Bank’s save will live forever. What a marvel to watch.
@@christopheripad477 Strange logic ... it was a draw (2-2) until that fatal "no goal" occurred. The 4-2 goal was meaningless as the Germans were merely counterattacked in the last minutes of the extra-time, when they tried to equaliz the score (in vain).
22 pieces of quality in this game and I’m Scot’s , the abuse Francis Lee got for putting a tackle on Pele was brutal but it never fazed him , and Moore just pure class calm and in control.
The long technical swerving pass with power from Carlos Alberto was equally brilliant. Banks observed that "it was a pass he had never seen the like of before."
Must have seen this a thousand times and I still can't believe what I'm seeing! What Banks did was impossible, well it should have been.nothing else even comes close. Remarkable.
Just sensational. I grew up on footy in the 70's. I actually prefer those years to today's game. With all the hype around the EFL & the game in general, the "old" game tends to be forgotten or downplayed. There were as many superstars back then as there are today, and far less nonsense. What a great upload. Thank you! And superb quality as well!
You are welcome. I wish this save was filmed from all the different angles that modern saves are. It would look even more impossible. Banks is diving backwards towards his own net to get a ball that has already gone passed him and nearer the net, then he has to judge how high it will bounce off the ground when he reaches it, then he doesn't just knock it around the post, he actually scoops it up over the bar! A miracle.
The epitaph from Pele says it all. Given the strength of the gloves, the density of the ball, the!save is akin to stopping a medicine ball; the greatest moment of perfection from beginning to end.RIP two legends.
It was miraculous, most great saves are quick reflex blocks at a ball that is fired to the side, but this ball had gone past Banks and he had to dive backwards and then scoop it up, incredible
Yes, most people don't watch this closely enough to appreciate the astonishing skill from every player. The ball lifted up, but without looking, he fires a pinpoint cross onto Pelé who leaps higher than any defender and heads the perfect header down to bounce in front of the keeper....and then the save.... All of it unsurpassed skills.

I like the way just one defender pats him on the head, as a well done and acknowlegement of what a good save it was, as the other defenders start lining up for the upcoming corner as if it was just a routine save.Nowadays Banks would be showered with kisses by the players, hugs all round, pulling off of shirts and gestures to the crowd for a big roar.None of the present day pantomime of professional football is in evidence here.
It's a great shame that modern camera coverage (obviously) wasn't available for moments like this. We would be able to appreciate exactly what Banks managed to do if we could just see this save from at least two other angles.
@@CaminoAir I agree. During the clip there is a brief moment when we see Banks from the goal, after he has made the save, so there must have been a guy filming it from just behind the goal line, near the right post. So somewhere out there maybe there is footage of the save from that angle, which would be spectacular
@@CaminoAir that's a good point. I am sure there are enough photos from different angles to simulate it. Unfortunately today, people are so obsessed with the modern game and the Prem, that these great moments from the past can get forgotten. It needs a computer whizz who is interested in football history. 😊 Having said that, in Brazil they simulated a goal by Pelé that wasn't filmed, where he flicked the ball over the head of 3 defenders, one by one, then scored. Its on TH-cam. 😊
The save is amazing as is the delivery from Jair. The ball is popping all over the place but his delivery to Pele is perfect. The header is perfect. The save is amazing.
The angle and compressed picture here make the goal look smaller than it really is.. there are some photos not shown here (from straight on) that illustrate the distance he had to cover after the ball left Pele's head. He starts at the near post on the cross, has to watch it over his head to end up behind him, moves central and then dives sideways and backwards to push a bouncing ball going like a rocket up and over. He's not even made it to the centre of the goal yet as it is met by Pele's head and he still manages to get there somehow. Impossible made possible.

Still as great today as 54 years ago
This save sticks in the minds of everyone who watched Englands games.they say its the best save ever, and I have no reason to change my mind on that.
Pelé said: I’ve scored 2 goals to England, one in and the other one saved by Gordon Banks!

Was privileged to meet Gordon in 2012 and talk with him about a number of things including this great save. A fantastic, humble man and I loved spending time with him.
Wonderful. I briefly met him at an Autograph event and he signed a photo of this save. He was really friendly and kind then too.
Pelé's timing on the ball and the technical gesture of his body are millimetrically perfect. An animal!
He was a master of every aspect of the game. He could jump higher than Micheal Jordan (official measured jump)
It is so beautiful to see Pelé's moviments; it's like absolute perfection.

That pass from Carlos Alberto to set Jairzinho up for the cross is outstanding, the save is out of this World
@@luisfilipe1215 yes, the pass is unbelievable, the cross is also amazing, the ball bounces up just before he hits it, and yet its pinpoint accuracy onto Pelé's head.
And what a jump from Pele! Perfect header to bounce in front of the keeper. This whole sequence is football perfection.
@@paulstillwell3874 Indeed, football poetry at its best. You won't see a right back making a pass like that these days.
@@paulstillwell3874that ball from pelè looked to be over the goal line.
Exactly, the pitch is making the ball bounce all over the place, and the timing of Pelé's jump and precision and power of the header, incredible
World class with both feet, the head, free kicks, free style skills, tackling, distribution of the ball off both feet & accurate shooting from both feet, & incredible atheleticism agilities to jump, sprint, etc.
Watch my Pelé comp on my youtube channel. It shows everything!
Moore, far from being shell shocked by the save said to Banks " You're getting old, you would have held on to that in the old days"
@@rorykeegan1895 Right after the save. Moore has both hands aloft & there's a pause. That's the shock & startled moment. He couldn't believe what he'd just seen. Then he claps slowly & says what you stated to Banksy. O' Rei Pelé was already off celebrating, as soon as the ball left his head. He knew goalkeepers ain't saving those. He was wrong this time lol.
Miraculous save. Jim Montgomery's double save against Leeds, in the FA Cup Final, for Sunderland is worth an honorable mention, too...👍
That is the most remarkable sequence of events I have ever seen on a football field. That save defies belief. Thank you for posting.
the best save ever against the GOAT Pele unbelievable
Unquestionably the greatest save ever. I love Bobby Moore's reaction. He's like in disbelief. The whole thing is beautiful, right from the moment the ball leaves Alberto's boot it's poetry.
Everything so precise and perfect. A magical moment.
What a save what a moment in world cup history and still the best Brazilian team plus the 1970 tournament is still regarded the best ever.
Great to see a frame by frame of this, really let’s you appreciate the save all the more . There’s some come close but nothing beats this.
I must have watched this save at least 500 times, gives me Goosebumps every time, this particular Video , with slo mo replays and different angles is easily the best I have seen, thank you so much.
You are welcome. I wanted to honour Banks and Pele for this incredible moment.
I am searching for another angle on it. There is brief moment in this video where we see Banks from behind the goal net, so surely somewhere out there someone must have the video of the save from behind the goal. 🤞
I am from Scotland and watched this as it happened , what a perfect leap, powerful downward header. What a save, nothing has come close

@@christopheripad477 Strange logic ... it was a draw (2-2) until that fatal "no goal" occurred. The 4-2 goal was meaningless as the Germans were merely counterattacked in the last minutes of the extra-time, when they tried to equaliz the score (in vain).
@@TheCdecisneros The score was 4 - 2 if I remember correctly ... so it doesn't even matter, now does it?
Three pieces of quality in this clip. The cross, the header and the amazing save
The run wasn't bad too. The other piece of quality in this clip is Bobby Moore, even standing there he looks majestic.
I remember watching that. Brilliant save.
Fue una atajada monumental de Gordon Banks, para muchos la mejor de todos los mundiales, tenía unos reflejos impresionantes el gran arquero inglés.
Must have seen this a thousand times and I still can't believe what I'm seeing! What Banks did was impossible, well it should have been.nothing else even comes close. Remarkable.
One of THE greatest moments in football history! Watched it live and will never forget it
Just sensational.
A miracle.
you can see pele celebrating then realising oh my god hes some how saved it
Incredible to see how everyone in that stadium, including the English players, thought that was a goal! But...
there was Gordon Banks!
The epitaph from Pele says it all. Given the strength of the gloves, the density of the ball, the!save is akin to stopping a medicine ball; the greatest moment of perfection from beginning to end.RIP two legends.
Carlos Alberto's pass is the only I can recall to be towards the middle ending up to be to the sides. Fantastic as well as GB's save.
That's weird. It looks like he used the inside of his right boot and he somehow made the ball spin from left to right. It's baffling.
An incredible attacking move ends with a remarkable save. It's also a tremendous game of football. One of the best you'll see.
Rest in peace O Rei.
100 years time That save will never be bettered imo.
It was miraculous, most great saves are quick reflex blocks at a ball that is fired to the side, but this ball had gone past Banks and he had to dive backwards and then scoop it up, incredible
Did anyone notice the bobble as jairzinho crossed and still found pele's head superb skill
The Banks save, the Bobby Moore tackle (same match), the Pele dummy and the Cruyff turn are the best football moments ever.
Absolutely! Did you know the 'Cruyff Turn" was done 14 years beforehand by Pelé, in 1960, for Santos against Italian giants Juventus.

The one save to rule them all.
