75 years of age and I have been privileged to see every player on this video. For many years Pele was unsurpassed in my view, until Messi came along. It has been an absolute joy to witness them all; each adding a sprinkling of stardust to our wonderful game.

Messi is the GOAT, no debate whatsoever. But for me Thierry Henry and Ronaldinho are by far my favorite living football legends, they are the reason I fell in love with football in the first place, they are part of my childhood... Henry should have won at least one or two ballon d'or in the 2003 and 2004 seasons, he was so unique and underrated back then, he was almost unstoppable and genuinely a very good all-rounder authentic player. ☯️✌️

Messi is an aggregate of all the players that were mentioned before him with the exception of being a defender which I don't doubt he would also excel. A complete player. He not only initiates the play, he finishes it with or without the help of his team mates, or makes that exceptional assist. I have watched all the greats but no one compares. for me it’s the way how Zidane played this game. It seemed like he was all others 2 steps ahead and knew how it would end. He hadn’t done thinks like Maradona because Maradona had way more pace and could use this perfectly in his style of play which looks unbelievable good. But in terms of ball control and clever dribbling and how he read the game…. I never saw a player like him. He treated the ball like something fragile. Plus his passing and vision. Very good list! I cannot distinguish between Pele, Messi and Maradona. Messi might be the most succesful in terms of longevity, efficiency and pure talent to create and score goals. But he has been much more protected by the referees than Maradona, and has played on football grounds that are more like pool tables, compared to Maradona. Pele performed with heavy leather balls and shoes when much less was known about conditioning. Maradona was more of a creator, leader and natural force with incredible touch. Pele and Messi were more of goalscorers. Messi has probably also been much better protected by the surroundings of family and in the Barcelona organisation that contributed to a long career. While Maradona was not protected at all and suffered an enormous mental pressure from the surroundings. Out of the the others, Gerd Müller and Ronaldo (7), are mostly goalscorers, and Ronaldo (7) might be the best ever with an incredible talent to find space. But might not belong on this list. Romario also belong to the same category with fantastic goal scoring ability, but almost useless outside the box. Above them, Ronaldo (9) was a fantastic goal scorer combined with the technical ability and a natural force to just run through the defenses, and belongs perhaps just behind the front 3. But in my view creators are more important than pure goal scorers, such as Ronaldinho (could have been the best ever, if he had performed at his peak for longer than 3-4 years), Zidane, Baggio, and most importantly Platini that was forgotten here (?). Cruyff was a better player, more similar to these three, and had more influence on the game over time than Beckenbauer. But I started watching football at World Cup 1986, and have little experience of seeing players from the 50s, 60s, 70s or early 80s, and perhaps Puskas belong with di Stefano and Ronaldinho just behind the front 3.

We’ve addressed similar comments before-this list is purely subjective, and it’s impossible to rank players in a way that satisfies everyone. Football is such a complex game, and as many fans as there are, there will be just as many opinions. Cristiano Ronaldo being 9th on our list doesn’t mean we think he’s significantly worse than Messi or others ranked higher. It’s simply our perception based on various factors. Creating a top 10 that pleases everyone is nearly impossible, so we decided to go with what feels right to us. Of course, others will see it differently, and that’s part of what makes discussions like this so interesting.

Very good list! I cannot distinguish between Pele, Messi and Maradona. Messi might be the most succesful in terms of longevity, efficiency and pure talent to create and score goals. But he has been much more protected by the referees than Maradona, and has played on football grounds that are more like pool tables, compared to Maradona. Pele performed with heavy leather balls and shoes when much less was known about conditioning. Maradona was more of a creator, leader and natural force with incredible touch. Pele and Messi were more of goalscorers. Messi has probably also been much better protected by the surroundings of family and in the Barcelona organisation that contributed to a long career. While Maradona was not protected at all and suffered an enormous mental pressure from the surroundings. Out of the the others, Gerd Müller and Ronaldo (7), are mostly goalscorers, and Ronaldo (7) might be the best ever with an incredible talent to find space. But might not belong on this list. Romario also belong to the same category with fantastic goal scoring ability, but almost useless outside the box. Above them, Ronaldo (9) was a fantastic goal scorer combined with the technical ability and a natural force to just run through the defenses, and belongs perhaps just behind the front 3. But in my view creators are more important than pure goal scorers, such as Ronaldinho (could have been the best ever, if he had performed at his peak for longer than 3-4 years), Zidane, Baggio, and most importantly Platini that was forgotten here (?). Cruyff was a better player, more similar to these three, and had more influence on the game over time than Beckenbauer. But I started watching football at World Cup 1986, and have little experience of seeing players from the 50s, 60s, 70s or early 80s, and perhaps Puskas belong with di Stefano and Ronaldinho just behind the front 3.

We’ve addressed similar comments before-this list is purely subjective, and it’s impossible to rank players in a way that satisfies everyone. Football is such a complex game, and as many fans as there are, there will be just as many opinions.
Cristiano Ronaldo being 9th on our list doesn’t mean we think he’s significantly worse than Messi or others ranked higher. It’s simply our perception based on various factors. Creating a top 10 that pleases everyone is nearly impossible, so we decided to go with what feels right to us.
