I think I'd definitely put Phu Quoc in my top five. Agree that Da Nang should be in the top 5. PQ is the very definition of paradise and don't forget it's not just a single island. You can go to explore that chain of islands to the south west. And there's yet another chain of islands way down south called Nam du although I read that that place caters only to package tourists, not independent travelers.
Hello there, I saw your previous video where you mentioned that Vietnam may offer a 90 day e visa. You said that you would keep us informed about it and I do not know if I have missed a message from you about it in the 4 months since the video. I have 2 Qs: 1) Does an American need to acquire a visa to travel to Vietnam, or can I just go with my passport? 2) Is the 90 day e visa in effect, and if so, do you know if regular border runs can be made without any problems from Vietnam immigration? Thanks for all of your super helpful information.
Yes, you need a visa to go to Vietnam. And last I heard the 90 day eVisa is still in effect. So you would need to leave the country and get a new eVisa every 90 days. You will have to wait until you are out of the country to apply for the next eVisa and it takes a few days to clear before you fly back in. That is the formal way to do it until things change. Other expats are using agents to make this a little easier. Plus, there is talk of the 1 year visa coming back but nothing certain yet. Every country in the world can change visa rules whenever they please. People put up with this because they love the country more than other countries in SE Asia.

We are a couple in our 50s like to eat local street food, have local beers, enjoy walks along the beach but not necessarily swimming and sunbathing. Hey Dan so where does one go during burning season in Thailand? We’ve just visited Vietnam and love it. We live in Thailand and last year the burning season was horrific and long lasting. What are some good options here in SEA? Thx
Thailand is a great choice. Maybe south for the islands. Koh Samui or Koh Phangan. In Vietnam, I would do Nha Trang because it may not be warm enough in Da Nang during the burn season if it starts early.
Hey! Few things. I am an American married 20 years to a dual Vietnam and USA citizen. Been to Vietnam often enough. I am a "foreign spouse" of a Viet Kieu, as the Vietnam government refers to me. I have a different visa unlike a tourist. I get something closer to a permanent residence should I choose. FYI: The first time I stepped foot in Vietnam was in 2002, when it was nearly impossible to get a visa... things changed over the years. I had met my (now) wife as a penpal online in 2000. She was the first person I met when I cleared the airport in Ho Chi Minh City. Yep! She met me at the airport. My wife and I are in the process of buying a property in Vung Tau in Ba Ria province, near to Ho Chi Minh City. Vung Tau is one city you did not mention. The first time I saw Vung Tau was 24 years ago. My wife, from Thu Duc, Ho Chi Minh, likes Vung Tau. What made you not consider Vung Tau?...to close to Ho Chi Minh? The second choice for us was Go Cong, South of Ho Chi Minh in the Mekong Delta. Yeah, we have been everywhere...not quite. Still a few places.....Sa Pa anyone? Con Dao? Those are still left for me, in addition to the far south in the Mekong Delta...Ca Mau. Also like Buon Ma Thuot. We also liked Can Tho....the city featured in the French, albeit risque, movie The Lover!!!....La Amante!!! Anyway, there are many nice places left to see in Vietnam.... even for me. As far as the visa thing, unless you marry a local or have a business, you are doing visa runs. That's fine by me. Don't want the place overrun by tourists. These are my thoughts.
Thanks for your thoughts. We discuss Vung Tao in the video towards the end after my commercial. Its a nice place. We discuss it here: th-cam.com/video/SBnQ6yhF9-o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=feDcwmtrCLrjRiP3&t=815

Have you ever noticed when you have Koreans, Japanese, Europeans, North Americans and Australians living in the same place has something really special about it. Southeast Asian is very special for this but you still have Guatemala, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Turkey and for some Morocco. When people leave their home countries and relocate to places that are filled with others that have done the same there might be something special about those locations?

Dan, what would you recommend to set up on your laptop when (for instance) a bank wants to verify your identity by phone (but my US phone number will be not be in service and will change with each new country's sim). What can I install on my laptop to receive those texts messages which will provide a verification number (instead of sending it to my phone)?

We are slow travelers William. The world is our oyster. :-)
@@VagabondAwakecracked that oyster open😮
@@VagabondAwake Got it “oyster” is code for SE Asia. 😉
Hey!
Hi @rahuliyer7456, Would you like to be a guest start on one of my videos? Here is an example guest star video: th-cam.com/video/ySM_2jAC4v4/w-d-xo.html
Your interview could be just your voice or we could do a zoom call showing your face. If you would like to be a guest star and share your story please leave a personal message here: vagabondbuddha.com/contact/
Thank you for your comment. The detail of your comment makes this real for people. If you have a business, service, or TH-cam channel, you could share that on the interview. Best, Dan
Thanks nice place to visit for the moment
1) Da Nang
2) Quy Nhon
3) Dalat
I was retired there for 4 1/2 years. No need for a formally named retirement visa.
Border runs?
Hue city is or was pronounced “Way” City.
Hue is pronounce (whey) not hoy.
I've never heard Hue (way) pronounced Hoy.

True. :-)
I agree that Da Nang is best
Nice
Hue is not pronounced Hoi, its pronounced like the word Way
Thanks for the clarification.
Another good video, thanks.
Great question @lankstephens6374, those are the kinds of questions I answer in detail in my free eBook here: vagabondbuddha.com/fire-your-boss-travel-world/

Chung - I think 🏆 won!
She wins all the time. :-)
Traveling around Asia and the Pacific is a great way of life. Leaving Vietnam every three months is not a problem for me.
A question if one may ask , you have to choose one place to retire or live for the rest of your life and why would you choose this place , will I get a reply = probably not but I could be wrong.
You probably won’t but a great channel anyway

@@nala3038 I did get a reply but gave me details of the report, didn’t answer my question in regards to what’s the name of the place if you could only choose one , never mind though.
@@VagabondAwake Wow a very detailed soul you are = it’s not what you look at that counts it’s what you see , thank you for reply , all I need now is an honest woman = probably harder to find , pity you didn’t do a follow up on the fifteen places and also rate the honesty of the women there = sorry just the British humour at play. Thanks again be good take care and may your god be good to you.
Evisa for 90 days then leave the country and come back again with new evisa for 90 days
Visa run is a completely legal option, but if you plan to stay for one year in Vietnam the fees alone will be over $1 000!On top of that you have to add the costs of all the tickets...
You are a high roller. No offense intended.
@@VagabondAwake ...Don't worry!Since I have to leave the country,I always plan at least a week vacation.Last year, first time went to Luang Prabang, for 8 days, second time I flew into Phnom Penh for a week.
Retire for 90 days at a time thanks to their ridiculous visa policies? No thanks, I’ll go where I’m treated best and feel welcome 💃
Knowing what you want is half the battle. :-)
I’m not leaving a big city like Sydney to live in an Asian equivalent with worst pollution and chaotic roads
Give me a quiet town by water
I retired early
Want to live like Kane out of Kung Fu
Wandering the earth helping people

There are smaller town all over the place. Funny, one of my best friends tells me I am like Kung Fu.
You're recording in an echo chamber. Can't understand what you're saying. SMH
