Such a creepy and interesting story, Dr. Grande! It left me wondering whether or not Ray wasn't responsible for the disappearances of other transients over his lifetime, yet it didn't finally catch up with him until he became so bold as to commit so many relatively traceable crimes in a short period of time. People have gone missing forever and not many of those cases are ever solved.

I'd lay odds Ray was a long time serial killer who had killed as early as his teen years and possibly frequently thereafter.
History is replete with serial killers who never quite made it onto the radar. If you google death certificates along railroad lines of the early railroading days, you'll find many for "UNKNOWN", cause of death being crushed on railroad tracks. Not all of them just got sleepy and fell off the train or were dragged under trying to get on. Plenty were shoved under by traveling killers among the hobo crowd.

Given her intimate knowledge of his character, I think she was aware of the murders. Unless he packed her off each time to see family, it's impossible to believe she wouldn't figure it out. Thank you for the interesting video and analysis. I remember this in the news when it occurred. The part that interests me is Jack Mc Cormick had a suspicion that Ray was going to shoot him. In other accounts, Jack looked into Ray's eyes while poking for the "racoon". Hence Ray could not
shoot him while Jack was looking at his eyes. I have heard/read similar stories of this. One comes to mind of a WWII Japanese prison camp survivor. He claimed he was about to be stabbed to death in the camp but, he kept looking at the attacker's eyes and was spared. Also you hear of stories where the killer instructs their victims to turn around and not face the killers before they
are murdered. As a psychologist, what is the significance of avoiding death from a killer by looking into the killer's eyes?

"Hey Ray, what are those bones in the cowshed?"
    Oh, just some cow bones.
"What about this, uh, human skull?"
Oh that's just a cow with a weird human looking skull.
"Uh-huh. And why does the cow skull that looks like a human skull have a .22 caliber hole in it?"
You see, that weird looking cow with attacked me, so I had to defend myself.
    "Oh okay. Makes sense."

I can't take much more Ukraine tonight. It's just too painful so let's see what you think about whatever these people have done. Take care sir

It seem like being a transient farm worker can be easy victims for a serial killer. Juan Corona (machete killer) in Yuba City, Ca 1971 he murdered 25 migrant farm workers. Maybe you can analyst this guy.

    An excellent video 📹
    WE ARE ALL 'HOMELESS'
We may think of ourselves as financially secure. but we are one step away from being 'HOMELESS '.
A bad marriage: an addiction: mental or physical illness: loss of employment: national crisis etc.
HOMELESS PEOPLE are very vulnerable as they have nothing.
If you don't want to help a homeless person person, don't.
But to exploit them and hurt them is very wrong.

Ray Copeland frequented the Green City, MO Livestock Auction on sale days. When the case broke and was on all the news stations in the area, my uncle exclaimed, "that's that guy who smelled so bad!"
My uncle had wound up sitting next to Ray on bleachers during an auction on one occasion and noted that Ray smelled so bad that it was noticeable even around other sweaty guys and the smells of animal waste. My uncle said he smelled so bad that he'd moved to get away from his particularly bad stench. On another auction date later on, Ray passed behind him and my Uncle knew it was him by the peculiar smell before he even turned around. Sure enough there was Ray.
I'm wondering if there's any relationship between peculiar and pronounced body odor and propensity for heinous crimes. Sounds like an odd question, but Hitler and Stalin were also noted for body odor.

I wonder how a 71 year old man dug graves and buried the bodies of at least five men. Was he particularly strong and healthy or perhaps he had farm equipment to dig the graves? And I find it hard to believe he could kill and dispose of that many bodies on his property without his wife seeing something.

Ray was illiterate and Faye was not. He was the boss, she had to have been his partner/bookkeeper. She was, at best, accessory after the fact, I believe, because she acted as though nothing was wrong with the clear pattern of disappearances and the collection of men's clothing in her house. Somehow, I believe there would have been more outrage against her than support for her if the disappearances and clothing had been those of young women.
