    This was another very well done video. Though I tend to get feedback from a dozen sources for a device that I am interested in, this channel is quickly becoming a reliable source of well rounded information along with my two favorites, Mobile Tech Review and Jarrod's Tech...at least for laptops :-)
    As I tested this device for a week and have been waiting for a return label from microsoft since last Friday (they really are being a pain blaming it on their systems), I agree with just about everything in this video. My only comment is that I've had many more issues than discussed here. For example, Blue Screens, Vertical Bar color anomalies (happened only once), weird CPU/GPU assignments, underwhelming battery life, weird issues of apps not closing when disconnecting device to tablet mode, unresponsive touch screen, disappearing cursor when hovering over browsers, Logitech G Hub not completing download process only on this device, and a few others.
    However, as mentioned in the video with regard to longevity, the nail in the coffin for me was the constant spikes to 100C with averages in the mid 90s (95-96C). Sometimes I saw 3 of 4 cores hitting 100C, and it happened way too much for my comfort. Though some would argue that the Intel chip is designed for up to 100C, I would argue that hitting the wall of what something is designed for over and over, well, for longevity, that doesn't make me comfortable in the long run for a device I paid after tax around $3,200.
    So with that said, my quest for 1 device to rule them all failed, a year in waiting, and I settled on a Asus G14 with a Samsung Book Flex targeted to arrive tomorrow. Two devices that do what they focus on better than the one to rule them all approach, but oh well :-)
    Great job on the review!

      Thanks Keith ! Lisa at Mobiletechreview is my idol so to mentioned in the same sentence as her is a huge compliment !
      Like yourself I have been searching for the perfect device. I take lots of notes so a 2-1 has always been my go to device.
      I gave my XPS 15 2-1 to my wife so now use an iPad for the notes.
      Sorry to hear about your issues, definitely much worse than anything I have seen. It seems that Microsoft is always having these issues and its inexcusable considering the depth of their resources and the price this thing costs.
      I too have asked for a return label about 3 days ago. How long do they normally take ?

    • @Belgarath777
      @Belgarath777 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OWNORDISOWN Well, the compliment is well earned. Last Friday, they told me the generation of the label should be minutes. That's when they told me that they didn't know why I wasn't getting the email and it must be a system issue. I gave a second email address as well, checked spam, and nothing. They escalated the ticket and told me I should get the label within 72 hours. I waited 72 hours, then on Monday afternoon they told me it is 3 business days. So I'm waiting to the end of today. I don't expect one today, so trust me when i say you wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of my phone call at the end of today lol. In the meantime, I've reported the case # to my Credit Card, they have accepted the dispute, and I'll continue to see if it can be resolved by Microsoft. So the answer is, all of this should have taken minutes lol.
      I'm was also considering the iPad Pro, especially since I'll be moving internationally and my entire family uses FaceTime except for me. I just felt that if I was ever going to get an iPad, it needs to be a more substantial upgrade than their 2018 model, so I'll reconsider when they come out with their next model :-).
      The Dell 2&1 you gave your wife is excellent, but I just didn't like the keyboard typing experience, it felt way too flat for me, and the speakers just weren't good enough, unlike this Asus G14 that I'm typing on now, which has fantastic speakers with some bass..which is rare..and should be a standard all laptops strive for.

      Even if they put the 15w 6 core intel chip in it would have at least been better than last year. Thing is, people will think it's a new one so it must be better whilst all Microsoft did was rehash it. Give it an 80w 1660Ti then at least you would have that going for it. Such a shame.

    This is my first Surface book, and will be the last. Accepted the outdated design - thick bezel. Keyboard is not crispy enough. The temperature is way too high for just web browsing and video watching. The tablet mode battery life is too short; barely 2 hours. In the end, simply also brought an iPad Pro 12.9 for entertainment. The actual advantage of Surface book is male friendly when using on legs with keyboard. (But the keyboard will still too hot when charging.) That's pretty much it. Waiting for Huawei to come up with a 15" model on their Matebook Pro X series. Simply like the 3:2 screen form factor for better productivity.

      LPDDR4 is the mobile equivalent of DDR4 memory. Compared to DDR4, it offers reduced power consumption butdoes so at the cost of bandwidth. LPDDR4 has dual 16-bit channels resulting in a 32-bit total bus. In comparison, DDR4 has 64-bit channels. Therefore, LPDDR4 RAM halves the bus..."

Also, one more thing, can you please test the thermals (AIDA64 stress test or something like that/CPU+GPU 100% utilization) in studio mode? They charge that premium because there's arguably nothing like it on the market and I agree with that. However, the CPU is straight up a disappointment. That 6 core 15 watts i7 would've made all the sense in the world. Or better yet, an 8 core Ryzen 4000 U series CPU or a 6C/12T Ryzen 5 4600U if the 8 core is too much. Not to use Ryzen is straight up stupid (could be smart for marketing, idk) because that tablet form factor needs every last bit of efficiency Intel can't provide. Also Micro$oft doesn't include Thunderbolt 3 for security as they claim yet the use Intel CPUs which have more security vulnerabilities than I can count. A 65 watts RTX 2060 MQ can certainly be an option too but they decided to skimp on that. These terrible decision just make it too much to pay the premium. Oh and that delay for disconnecting it from the base is also too long.

    hello all , i have bought the surface book3 , 15 inch (516gb , 32gh ram) and i have replace it already due battery is not lasting , the second one i got it Frieda, with the same issue the contact the Microsoft support , the remote to it and they have update windows , and ask to monitor the battery today i had meeting i charged ii to 100% and i did not last fro three hours ( i have not install and application yet not even office ( is not yet activated ) i have attended that the meeting via webex ( via web) .... i m not sure if anyone has the same that issue i have ,,, can anyone reply me if is normal ? i mean i bought the machine for the battery (T_T) and now not even 3 hours ??

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is not normal. Do both batteries discharge at the same rate ? If they do it must be something running in the background. I suspect when in tablet mode the rate of discharge is actually slower? If this is the case then it might be an optimus thing and its pinging the dedicated GPU too much. I would install latest drivers from geforce experience.

      @@OWNORDISOWN thank you so much for your reply , I had this problem, from day one i got the machine , i contact Microsoft they have remote in and did some troubleshooting then they replace it , I got the new one on Friday 17 July but the problem persist , you know i have attend a meeting in WebEx and the new surface book 3 did only last for 170 minutes total , i both surface i got only installed webex , chrome ,whatsapp app, and spss ( office not yet activated not even free trail one ). and yes for the both machines i got the both battery are been consumed- i have checked the cup is not even 40% )

    For what this costs I'd expect it to do all my work without any input from me whatsoever, clean my home, and then make me my dinner. All that would be based on me somehow being able to survive with no kidneys as a result of needing to sell them both in order to be able to afford this laptop to begin with, more so given that the dollar price will translate almost exactly into the same price in pounds.

      Yes, I'm amazed that the windows store is saying that they are sold out..perhaps they only made like 10 of them.

    The choice of processor is really really bad. Ice Lake CPU may have better graphics but their CPU performance is really nothing advantageous over Comet Lake and especially when the laptop is having a powerful dedicated graphics. They should have gone with the 6 core i7 10710u. But Ryzen 4000u series would have been the best choice since Surface devices still don't have This Thunderbolt 3. When you think that a $500 laptop with Ryzen 5 4500U can beat this $2500 device by a mile in cpu performance, the feeling is not so good. A 15 inch Device is anyway, not suitable for tablet usage and that feature is not going to be anything advantageous in real world usage, apart from looking cool.

    Please don’t buy any surface products, software has many issues, they update it regularly, whenever new updates comes the system fails in many other hardware things...for me in last update and the keyboard and mouse stopped working...customer service is worst. Doesn’t worth the money we pay to those people!!!
