    I like it. If you move the drawer slides up higher, you can hide the seam for the hidden drawer.

    • @TheStabbedGaiusJuliusCaesar

      You mean so it runs ultra close to the bottom of the seam?

    • @hocuspocus4871

      @@TheStabbedGaiusJuliusCaesar I would move the drawer slide up so that it just barely covers the seam. The drawer slide would still be screwed to the bottom/hidden drawer, just use a small portion of the 2" tall slide to hide the seam.

    • @TheStabbedGaiusJuliusCaesar
      @TheStabbedGaiusJuliusCaesar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@hocuspocus4871 - And maybe put some kind of clasp or something behind the drawerface and below the hidden drawer to hold the top drawer down. So only those who know about the clasp can open the hidden drawer. 🤔

    I know you've got your commercial operation, with all sorts of computerized milling via CNC, etc., but when you're in your shop knocking out these small personal projects, there's such an infectious joy in your voice when you accomplish what you're aiming for. It's like we're seeing brand new April all over again. Keep at it and never stop having fun with this. - Stew

    this design seems to make way more sense than some of the other "hidden storage" builds I've seen that are unnecessarily overcomplicated. Well done, i'll "borrow" some of these ideas!

    Thanks April for another unique and functional piece of furniture. I can’t imagine any better “hidden” storage place than you’ve created. The design allows one to stow away any number of items with in easy reach. This will make a great nightstand to store those items needed in a pinch. This would be much better than leaving a ‘pew pew’ piece laying out in the open! Thanks again for such simple to build pieces!

    Moving the magnets up a third or half the height, you could push the bottom of the back to make the top of the back come outwards, thus eliminating the finger hole.

    The hidden compartments at the rear of the drawers are great. It seems that the compartments on the bottoms of the drawers could be too easily discovered, even by accident while opening the drawers. Maybe a small line of small rare earth magnets between the edges of the sides of the drawers would provide enough resistance to prevent accidental discovery. A shallower lower compartment would be less obvious, maybe 2", enough to hold a 9mm or 45 ACP. Cool Idea!

    Excellent job, April! I think the legs being on the outside is a cool idea. But, I am wondering about how they are holding up the cabinet. If the legs are simply attached with screws, are you then depending upon the shear strength of your screws to hold up the entire cabinet and its contents? How about this as a modification: have the cabinet rest upon a small notch cut into each leg. Then attach the legs with screws. That way the weight of the cabinet is transferred to the ground. With the legs just applied to the outside I would not be able to look at it without worrying if the screws holding it up would one day fail.

    The nice thing about those external legs is that if you need a little extra shelf space, you can put a board on top of them. Or, you can attach a basket of some sort.
    You can improve your sneaky panel by replacing the magnets with a spring loaded magnetic catch that goes on cabinet doors. The type that when you push the door in, the door springs out. Then rather than having a finger hole, you could have a square panel that does not reveal anything.
    Adding matching veneer to the back of the other drawer cubies will then make it not be obvious.

    Well …. Now, I’d hide the rat traps under the “money”. We own an antique Dewey Decimal Library Card File made from solid oak. 3’x5’x2’ deep. About 60 deep narrow drawers. After 40 years those 60 drawers each hold their own “junk”. A vast array from Z to A. Mostly kitchen tools. Those file drawers have an adjustable back wall to keep the cards compact. Behind those walls … a lot of space. The entire cabinet when full of stuff weights so much , it anchors the house from tornadoes.
