I remember once visiting the jelly belly factory. They say that they spend a lot of time experimenting with flavor until they get the jelly bean flavor just right. Like, I guess instead of just something that tastes approximately "cherry" they make sure that eating the jelly bean and eating a cherry both give you pretty much the same flavor. The blueberry flavor that they make is probably the only candy I've ever had that actually reminds me of a blueberry, rather than some abstract "blue" candy flavor like "blue raspberry" or some other made up one.

Some lemon juice will preserve it beyond three days, and some vanilla gives it that candy taste.

The Jelly Belly factory was a favorite destination for our kids' school field trips and scout activities. The kids would ride the train around the factory, see how the jelly bellies and other candies were made, lots of artwork made from jelly bellies, and the saving the best for last -- the free samples at the end of the tour. But this came to an end during the pandemic, as they closed the Pleasant Prairie WI factory in 2020. I don't think they do anything at the North Chicago factory. California is still open, if you happen to be close to that location.
Of course, the goal of the free tours was for you to buy stuff. Our favorite was getting the big bags of Belly Flops. Large bags of beans that did not meet quality control. Shapes were wrong, mismatched colors, etc... Tasted the same. Best thing was that these bags were at pretty good discount.

They used to have a jelly belly factory/distribution center in Pleasant Prairie, Wi. It was a fun destination for friends and family who had kids from out of town. They threatened to close it around 2017, then changed their mind when Haribo announced they were opening a factory up the street from them, and then suddenly changed their mind during the pandemic, and just ended everything. Haribo is either opening soon, or just opened.... The gummy bears guys.
I thought they were going to keep it open forever and ever when I went on the tour in about 2018, and they had added a small batch test kitchen to the end of the tour where they could work on ideas and get immediate diverse public feedback. Now it's just another empty warehouse with the Jelly Belly Red/yellow stripes around the top of the building.

I fondly remember Jelly Belly because I live in the area near their factory in Fairfield, California. I have taken countless free tours of the Jelly Belly factory where they show you the history of the candy, the machines that make them, and tons of art made out of jelly beans! My favorite part was the free small pack of jelly beans you get at the end of the tour. The gift shop is enormous with every flavor and more. There's also a section just for fudge. My dad's favorite thing to buy was their "belly flops," which are 2-lb bags of jelly beans that weren't high-quality enough to sell (e.g., shaped wrong). Overall, I'm a big Jelly Belly fan and I think they deserve the credit they receive if not more! My favorite flavor has to be buttered popcorn because it's a perfect mashup of flavors and it's not too sweet.

I love Jelly Belly so much to the point where I hope they never go out of business. I've tried every jelly bean out there and I have yet to find one that's better. The problem that I'm having is that they're getting harder and harder to find. A lot of candy shops that did distribution are closed and now most retail companies don't sell individual flavors anymore. Plus they don't have most of their big name licensing like Disney and Hello Kitty. Maybe things changed but something tells me they've peaked.

My favorite flavor would have to be the sour orange one from the Jelly Belly Sours set; the sours in general are the ones I go for. This is an interesting transition for the company too from one type of seasonal candy to another associated with a completely different holiday. Come to think of it though the big candy companies do make seasonal candy for every holiday that has a candy that goes with it.
