      John Irving Especially because Sunnis think that their beloved Uthman, Aisha, and Muawiyah did not commit atrocities by their own hands. All three of them opposed Imam Ali ibn Abu Talib of their own will. The Khawarij existed as the hypocrites. Hyocrites cannot conceal themselves in front of Imam Ali ibn Abu Talib.

      501 KrKr I have many Sunni friends who love Imam Ali and take refuge against his enemies. Those are not the Sunnis I'm talking about. Those aren't the Sunnis who have cognitive dissonance.
      How can ome love equally Imam Ali ibn Abu Talib and those who have died fighting him?

    • @JarriAbidi
      @JarriAbidi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mehdi Alzghoul Imam Ali (after already living as Amir ul Momineen as soon as life left the body of the Prophet) was undoubtedly elected as a worldly ruler by the masses-- unlike the first who was elected by a few tribe leaders, and the second who was given Caliphate by the first, and the third who was elected by a majority of a council of six.
      Muawiyah ruined Caliphate, which was already broken fyi, and that is a fact of history. Imam Hasan exposed the aristocrats who had given up faith in Divine governance.

    • @JarriAbidi
      @JarriAbidi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      501 KrKr The innocent blood of thousands was shed because of purely personal squabble? That is not the teachings of the Holy Prophet and what you say is an insult to the oppressed, to the one whose rights were being usurped.
      Every person who shook the hands of the Prophet did not become his companion-Surah Munafiqoon's first verse makes that clear. Not to mention Imam Ali was not just a companion, but someone who the Prophet raised, slept with, crushed hard foods for so it would be easy for Imam Ali to swallow, and was made his brother when the Mohajir reached Medina, among many other things.
      Reason with reality.

  • @skiados7
    @skiados7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Extremely interesting, especially for a non-Moslem's point of view. Like some scholars have noticed, Ali was a far more spiritual person than his enemies. The problem is he might not have had the political skills necessary. Politics is a dirty business, and Ali wasn't dirty.

    This is a beautiful series; thanks for giving this such a thorough and engaging treatment. I've been interested in Middle Eastern and Islamic history for a while, and it's frustrating how limited the typical Westerner is in their understanding of it. Hopefully videos like this can help to ameliorate that...

    • @Renovatio2
      @Renovatio2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      +Coldwine It is a beautiful series for sure. I think I'd be one of those limited typical westerner you speak of. I'm well versed in European history as it pertains to me most directly and I think thats really more a human thing as the majority would naturally focus on our relative historical locality. I wonder how many in the middle east know anything about the history of my country, Ireland. I'd say very few. I'd love to see something like this taught in schools in both west and east. Hell just employ Shirvan, he deserves the position and praise.

    • @Skepsikyma
      @Skepsikyma 9 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      +RenovatioJuris Yes, it definitely should! And it's fine to be ignorant; as you've said, everyone is ignorant to some degree. My biggest problem with Westerners is that they tend to read crap history *cough* Bat Ye'or *cough*, adopt a strident and farcical narrative which treats the Middle East as Mordor, and then dismiss anyone who presents a nuanced, sane critique as part of some grand conspiracy. I don't think that that applies to you at all xP
      And you're right about people in the Middle East and Western history in general. Slavery discussions are a good example of this: Westerners and Muslims almost always end up talking past one another because the institution of slavery in both cultures was implemented so differently, and neither person usually understands that.

    • @T0KELY

      Oh how I dream of the day that quality like this is the standard of all nations television programming. There would be no place or excuse for ignorance. Thank you very much for your content, it has taught me a lot about a otherwise under appreciated part of the world.

    • @CaspianReport
      @CaspianReport  9 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      +RenovatioJuris Well, Irish history has more available materials and sources than Islamic subjects. The purpose behind these videos is to answer the questions on the origins of Islamic traditions and mindsets. However, I understand your point. If there was mutual understanding and knowledge we would have less animosity.

    • @isisfilipa1606
      @isisfilipa1606 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dont blame The west on your basic knowledge. You can just go to a library or the internet and read about the subject. Besides, I think westerners are the less biased when it comes to history to the point where we portray ourselves as mordor. Muslims dont even separate their history from their religon.

Mohammad was not a messenger of god, he was a leader and that's it... when you kill your opposition or tax them no wonder your religion gains many followers..

      Ali was the best ruller,Just like Prophet him self. He tried to renew teachings of prophet. but elite arabs who gained too much money and power in the reign of omar and othman did not want justice. people like talha and zubair gathered an army behind ayisha and went to a war with him. people like muawia who wanted to create their own monarchy opposed Ali. the reason why Ali's rule did not take much long was because he wanted to bring back justice. because he opposed royality.

      he even spared those who fought him many times when he conquared Mecca.

      Dude Prophet Mohammad (S) pbuh literally split the moon, God showed this miracle even his harshest of enemies saw this and couldn't believe it. Many of his followers testified of seeing this. It is not in the video but Prophet also told the leader of the Khawarij that he will die at the hands of ali and he did. He said uthman will die reading the Quran and that's exactly how he died. People like Abu Bakr and Uthman would not follow some imposter. Prophet Mohammad was a true messenger of god. Him splitting the moon is bigger then any miracle moses or jesus did.
      1. Read how he performed miracles just like prophet jesus sunnah.org/history/miracles_of_Prophet.htm

      2.Read How Prophet Mohammad Foretold future events or told prophecy and how they came true exactly how he said www.answering-christianity.com/prophecies_by_prophet_muhammad.htm

      3. Read about the life of the prophet and the good things he did, how it cannot be the work of a madman or liar howtobeahappymuslim.com/?p=1217 and this incident which shows how he forgave people even after being stoned imamjohari.wordpress.com/2010/01/13/the-prophet-muhammad-pbuh-the-lessons-of-non-violent-resistance-at-at-taif/ then read how those same people of taif waged war against the prophet and when the prophet went to attack their castle how he couldn't even bring himself to destroy their garden because the people in castle started to get upset and crying. Imagine he couldn't even bring himself to destroy the garden of the same people who stoned him and his son earlier! Does that honestly sound like some kind of a manipulative liar,warmonger or madman?! Please! www.al-islam.org/the-message-ayatullah-jafar-subhani/chapter-50-battle-taif after watching the videos and reading the article I would like to Invite you to to Islam. It is the true religion and way of life. May Allah Guide you.

    • @KizaruD
      @KizaruD 9 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Jon B In short;
      Muawiya was from the same tribe as Uthman and so he wanted Uthman to be revenged immediately, when he saw Ali was postponing the trial he felt Ali was not fit to rule and that he would be the better leader. He wanted justice and he wanted it immediately.
      Although that was a mistake on his part it had nothing to do with him being a corrupt governor and extorting the populace for money. Nor was it because he thought It was an impossible task.
      When he declared himself the leader of the Muslims he believed he would be better for the people than Ali

    • @sowndknowle-edge1596
      @sowndknowle-edge1596 9 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      +KizaruD While Ali sought justice, Muawiya pursued politics. Every move Muawiya pursued was for political gain and not for the sake of justice, and that is the way history is documented.
      Muawiya, son of Abu Sufyan (the eternal enemy of Muhammad), and father of Yazid (illegitmate ruler who slaughter Hussayn grandson of Muhammad) had no claim to the throne and broke his treaty made with Hasan son of Ali, that was mentioned at the end of this video.
      Keep in mind Yazid being a drunkard and womanizer whose tryanny eventually was the cause of the Ummayad Dynasty; Muawiya desire to put his son in power was not for justice, but for preserving political power, a common theme among his actions. Seriously though, who puts a holy scripture on the spear in the middle of a battle. Is that justice? My goodness.

    The issue with many of the Shias nowadays that they worship Ali and his sons and consider them as infallible and similar to gods; the thing that leads to pagan rituals. Other normal Muslims believe that Ali and his sons were just heroes, relatives of Muhammad, and normal humans like anyone else..

      +Zedek Those Khawarij who ruined it for everyone were the political tool of Muawiya. While Ali's quest from the outset was justice, Muawiya's was political gain. Keep in mind that Muawiya was the son of Abu Sufyan, the eternal enemy of the Prophet Muhammad; he was also the father of Yazid, the usurper tyrant behind the slaughter of Husain grandson of Muhammad.
      You will see this in the next episode most likely, history could not be more clear.

      +Sownd Knowle-edge enough shia nonscense, this video has much historical inaccuracies its told mostly from shia point of view. For example even shia scholors admit they fabricated the story of Umar(ra) killing fathima as a ploy against Sunnis. So shia history is 99% lies and full of fabrications

    • @TheGiantKiller8
      @TheGiantKiller8 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mohamed Mo their was much slant for example Aisha(ra) did not set out to fight Ali(ra) but to talk to him about getting justice for Uthman(ra) and their were infiltrators in Ali(ra) ranks who started the battle of the Camel not her.
      Also that bit about Umar(ra) killing 'fathima' what a disgusting lie, shites made many such lies to try to and destroy the Sunnah and put doubt in the Quran. The shia claim Umar and Uthman(ra) etc corrupted the Quran.
      So no scholors in past all 4 great imams declared Shia are liars and deviant their history is false

    Ali (RA) was a devout Muslim, had brilliant intellect and wits, amazing soldier and outstanding strategist and campaigner but a politician he was not. He refused to the play the game of politics and in fact hated it. This was his undoing. His decision to pardon the murderers of Uthman (RA) triggered the Ummayyad insurrection that spit the Caliphate and would ultimately lead to his own assassination.
    Funny thing is that Ali crushed the rebellion yet didn't execute the Ummayyads and his chief rival Muawiya who'd go on to assassinate him and his sons.

      Alimjan Yasin What I was trying to say is, if someone was to be put in an Islamic school, then this school would either be for Sunnis or for Shias and they will brainwash you accordingly. I as a kid attended a Quran school. This was best because all we did was recite the Quran and memorize chapters of it, that's all. With no further bias from a any sect.
      Wtf is an Islamic school anyways? Do they have different scientific theories established? lol jst being sarcastic

      With all due respect this video is extremely biased against Muway (R).This is only from the point of view of the shia. If you read any non Muslim historian during that time they always describe Muawiya as a just and kind king. Which doesn't at all match what the shias say about him. Truth is Ali (R) was a great leader but he failed to unite the muslim ummah. But Muaway was able to do that and he also respected Ali. If he wanted he could have killed Ali but that was never his intention that's why he talked about peace treaty. Here is a non muslim historians description of Muawiya John bar Penkaye, 67-68 AH / 687 CE.
      Little is known about John bar Penkaye. He was a native of Fenek in north-western Mesopotamia and a resident of the monastery of John Kamul. It was in this monastery he wrote Ktābā d-rīš mellē ("Book of the Salient Points") and dedicated it to a person called Sabrisho‘, the abbott of this convent.[37] In his book John bar Penkaye wrote the chronicle of the world from Creation to his present day which he calls as the "severe chastisement of today".[38] His work seeks to treat the salient points of history in a brief fashion. For the issue which concerns us here, it is discussed in the fifteenth and the last chapter, where the Arab conquests and the devastating famine and plague of 67 AH / 686-67 CE are mentioned.[39] Concerning Muhammad, John bar Penkaye says that:
      Having let their dispute run its course, after much fighting had taken place between them, the Westerners, whom they call the sons of ’Ammāyē, gained the victory, and one of their number, a man called M‘awyā [i.e., Mu‘awiya], became king controlling the two kingdoms, of the Persians and of the Byzantines. Justice flourished in his time, and there was great peace in the regions under his control; he allowed everyone to live as they wanted. For they held, as I have said above, an ordinance, stemming from the man who was their guide (mhaddyānā), concerning the people of the Christians and concerning the monastic station. Also as a result of this man's guidance (mhaddyānūtā) they held to the worship of One God, in accordance with the customs of ancient law. At the beginnings they kept to the traditions (mašlmānūtā) of Muḥammad,who was their instructor (tā’rā).

    Muawiyah was setting up a ploy? Source? Many not only Muawiyah demanded revenge for Othmans death, the main grievance was Ali's inability to even say he wants to catch the people who caused his death.
    You narrated this over a shia lense rather than an unbiased lense telling both stories, you pretty much waved off the other sides story as just a "ploy".
    Otherwise most of it was well made but prefer no biased attitudes.

      +Iberion Baratheon While Ali sought justice, Muawiya pursued politics. Every move Muawiya
      pursued was for political gain and not for the sake of justice, and that
      is the way history is documented.
      Muawiya, son of Abu Sufyan (the eternal enemy of Muhammad), and father
      of Yazid (illegitmate ruler who slaughter Hussayn grandson of Muhammad)
      had no claim to the throne and broke his treaty made with Hasan son of
      Ali, that was mentioned at the end of this video.
      Keep in mind Yazid being a drunkard and womanizer whose tryanny
      eventually was the cause of the Ummayad Dynasty; Muawiya desire to put
      his son in power was not for justice, but for preserving political
      power, a common theme among his actions. Seriously though, who puts a
      holy scripture on the spear in the middle of a battle. Is that justice?
      My goodness.

      +Sownd Knowle-edge there is no throne or dynasty in Islam. I may be a minority here but I view uthman as a naive pious and somewhat a liar. he said he would not stray from the ways of Umar and Abu Bakr yet he appointed his relatives in high ranks a didn't cycle the governors after he took the office. he did what he knew best and preyed for the best. the shias didn't care about anyone. they didn't hold a Shura counsel to elect a new caliph, established Ali line as the new monarch and expect the entire muslim world to bow their head and accept it? both sides were wrong imo. I'm not sunni or Shia just a Muslim that thinks for himself. try not to take some imam or aalim version of history and look it up yourself

      +Introvert Wolf thnx for your input sir... I am no Shia or Sunni either. Just a Muslims with no other titles and I only believe in one book which is the Quran ONLY, and everything else is history and should be treated as such.
      I agree with your comment to some extent. Uthman ruled for 12 years, his first 6 years of rule were great, however his last 6 years was when Uthman became old and unable to make clear judgments and I as well as many scholars perceive it as him being very naive and disastrous. Uthman was originally a very successful business man and that's what he knew best and he ruled the Caliphate in a business point of perspective. He messed up I got to say! However, I cannot turn a blind eye to his stance with Prophet Mohammad since the very early days. I am in no position to judge but I'll let Allah do the judgment

    the people with ali were not called shias , they were muslims that read the quran , sadly now shias say this quran is made up or not true , ali's "shia" believed in the quran and that aisha is the mother of the faithful . i would call myself a shiate for that , but nowadays shias don't believe in the quran neither do they believe that aisha is even a good human being , this video is very good .

  • @manofsan
    @manofsan 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Whoa, whoa, whoa there, Shirvan of Caspian Report!
    How do we really know that some of these specifics happened? How do we really know that "members of the mob" infiltrated the armies of Ali and Aisha to conspiratorially cause chaos and mayhem? To me, this sounds like some kind of apologist window-dressing, to canonize and exculpate the beloved Ali and Aisha, to make them sound like they could do no wrong - when in fact their own negligence and petty egos may have directly caused the outbreak of war. The "mob" may be some classic scapegoat conveniently erected to make Ali and Aisha both look perfectly innocent.
    In other words, you seem to be telling the story in a very intimate first-person way, as if you had traveled back in time to originally witness the events firsthand. How/why should I trust your narrative? What do you know that everybody else doesn't?

      All these events were documented,,, all someone has to do is analyze

    • @manofsan
      @manofsan 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      2sunami Uhh, documented by whom? What was their objectivity? "Analyse" is a word - give us a transparent analysis, citing your sources and how you came about your interpretations. Otherwise, the "analysis" I'm hearing sounds a lot like political spin.

    • @2sunami
      @2sunami 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      we have the epic of Gilgamesh documented since 2000BC. If documenting events was possible in that time, why wouldn't it be possible in like 700AD? There was historians who lived near the time of these events and documented them.
      Anyways,,, referring to your first comment... From my point of view I see that Aisha was wrong for going out against the legitimate elected Caliph (Ali). She should have waited for him to settle the assassination issue of Uthman by himself! Ali had bigger problems to deal and he preferred to settle these problems and pursue Uthman's assassins after. However, Aisha wanted it immediately and she was damn serious about it to the point that she led an army against Ali for this purpose. That only made Ali's problems bigger giving him unnecessary headache on top of the headache Muawiyah was giving him. It was obvious that Muawiyah wanted to coup the caliphate and he succeeded eventually. Aisha lived the rest of her life regretting that she opposed Ali.

    • @manofsan
      @manofsan 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think that because these are religious figures, there's a whole lot of incentive for the faithful to put spin on their actions, and make them more palatable - like a Hollywood movie. In real life, real history doesn't always have everyone behaving perfectly nobly, or being tragically misunderstood, etc.

      +manofsan I have to agree here, Shirvan. This piece lacks sources, but most important of all, it fails to do what you always do so well: show how complicated power can be since every power follows an own agenda. The portrayal of Muahwiyah is interesting and human, but both Ali and Aisha seem to come no blame, and we get the Khawarij to blame for everything that went wrong in early Islam.
      In general these series on early Islam have been very interesting, but what I like so much about your videos is showing how everyone is human, cultures make you biased towards stuff, and how powers chase their own agenda. I presume you have personal reasons to be either mild or forgiving towards early Islam, and I can see things through that lens, but the portrayal of the Khawarij as the (successful) will of the devil into breaking the ummah goes a too far.
      Besides that, thank you for always giving an interesting perspective on things.

    As a non Muslim I understood that Ali was always the best person to lead Islam after Muhammad. Though Abu Bakkar and Umar performed their duty well, from Uthman things went wrong. His followers were selfish elites who did dirty politics to dethrone Ali. Wish fortune had favoured Ali and his followers.
