Every time I got in the car I spoke out loud in the present tense (this was often multiple times a day) and did just what Richard suggests. My partner is passionate about life and about me and about us, he is honest, respectful, loyal, honourable, kind, talks to me for hours and is interested in my opinions, he likes to talk about problems and how we can overcome them. If you're currently struggling with recovering from an abusive friend/partner/parent, here's my advice: You have to become a bit of a narcissist yourself in order to effectively set boundaries in the future. You need to allow yourself to be grandiose without going overboard with it. Detach your perceived sense of self-worth that was given to you by the narcissist and "narcissistically" impose your own on yourself. Clear your mind of whatever the narcissist made you believe about yourself, destroy those walls and build back up again from the rubble. It will be difficult at first, but you'll be free eventually. Don't worry too much about being seen as a bad person for standing up for yourself. You have to act like a narcissist sometimes to protect yourself, but don't worry too much about feeling bad about it when it happens, because that's the very thing that separates you from an actual narcissist: you can feel remorse for your actions, they cannot.
I don't think you have to act like a narcissist, just value & protect yourself but with fairness because you recognise the other persons right to value & protect themself equally. With the narcissist there is no fairness, no equal recognition of another's needs.

I went down a similar path with the lists and made a realistic list of my values in a relationship and what had been demonstrated by him as far as his values are concerned and the two did not match up at all. It helped me to take the emotional charge out of the grieving stage. I got pragmatic about the two sets of values being totally different and reasoned that no relationship could work with such opposite value systems.

Just know that to be healthy it must be balanced and not take more from you than it is giving and never cost you anything but your invaluable time at your discretion unless it is your under aged child, a physically sick and/or aged loved one who cannot help themself, or an animal that requires care and compassion. Loving your neighbour as thyself means healthy self-love must come first as we do "the work" on ourself first and teach or re-teach people how to treat us when we are no longer behaving like codependent children prey for toxic predators but independent gates with healthy boundaries instead of fearful, unhealed walls. You cannot touch him or hug him without turn him on. For women ironing your husbands shirt is love. Going to the pharmacy midnight because your husband’s back hurt is love. Doing the grocery and cooking without help is love. Giving warm bear hug is love. Going out for dinner with people that you don’t like but they are important for your husband’s carrier is love.
I just read something that said bursts of salt cause a reaction in the hypothalamus. I need to look further but it could explain a lot of weird acting out if you aren't on a diet that's good for your particular physiology. Heal the gut heal the mind maybe.

I went down a similar path with the lists and made a realistic list of my values in a relationship and what had been demonstrated by him as far as his values are concerned and the two did not match up at all. It helped me to take the emotional charge out of the grieving stage. I got pragmatic about the two sets of values being totally different and reasoned that no relationship could work with such opposite value systems.

Just know that to be healthy it must be balanced and not take more from you than it is giving and never cost you anything but your invaluable time at your discretion unless it is your under aged child, a physically sick and/or aged loved one who cannot help themself, or an animal that requires care and compassion.
Loving your neighbour as thyself means healthy self-love must come first as we do "the work" on ourself first and teach or re-teach people how to treat us when we are no longer behaving like codependent children prey for toxic predators but independent gates with healthy boundaries instead of fearful, unhealed walls.

I just read something that said bursts of salt cause a reaction in the hypothalamus. I need to look further but it could explain a lot of weird acting out if you aren't on a diet that's good for your particular physiology. Heal the gut heal the mind maybe.
