  • Here's a POV BRZ Update (40,000 mi)! A friend told me a trick to soften up your old heat-cycled out track tires with simplegreen or wd40 (wasn't comfortable with wd40, so I used simplegreen). I test it out to see if it makes a difference.

    The audio in this video was recorded with in-ear binaural microphones. If you wear headphones, your mind won't be blown, but it will go, "woah."

    TheTopher on TH-cam is the place where I share my personal automotive (and some other) adventures. Whether it's about any of my personal cars or reviews on weekly test vehicles, the goal is to give you an idea of what a certain car is like to drive and live with. Most of my videos are filmed in POV, with my clothes on, and (for like the 5th time) with in-ear binaural audio,

    As a NB Miata and FT86 owner, I completely agree with you and the decision to drive the Miata on track more than the 86. It really is more fun to dog on, the 86 is a lot like walking a tightrope when you're pushing it to its limits.

    I think I'm going to pick up a used 17+ BRZ in a few years when they're cheaper. Looks like a super fun car.

    I've auto crossed for more than 25 yrs. Without a doubt, FORMULA V tire treatment is the best to restore the original traction to dryed out autox or race tires.

    How did you get the traction control off fully without doing the “pedal dance”?

    • @TheTopher
      @TheTopher  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Beastronix sells a switch that does it, and you can disable it through an Openflash tablet. There may be other ways now too, but for me the pedal dance has always been the quickest/simplest method when tracking.

    I wouldn't use wd40! Why would you oil tyres.

    • @WIblader510
      @WIblader510 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TooManyHobbies I understand why, it seems like false info until I remembered my rc racing days, for the guys on a budget that couldn’t afford a $40 bottle of tire sauce, wd40 would make the tire super super soft and not greasy at all. Really don’t know how it would be on a real tire but most likely same idea

      As tires age or get heat cycled, they lose oil that was once contained in the rubber. WD40 is great at temporarily replenishing the lost oils back in to the rubber generating a more pliable compound. Tires soak up chemical treatments like a sponge and after sitting for a day or so, will be completely dry once cured.
