- Many thanks to our patron Larry B for a great Nick Cave pick! I'm always stoked when I see him pop on the requests. This dude can play in any style or format and he just thrives, man. These are some of the most visceral and piercing lyrics i've ever heard. This kinda just leaves you in awe of his writing chops to be honest lol

Listen to the Junkyard album by Nick Cave's previous band The Birthday Party. They inspired every great post punk band from the next 20 years.
Glad you acquired the taste! The second voice that came in was Blixa Bargeld. He was to Cave like Ronson was to Bowie, more than just a member of the backing band. He co-wrote a lot of songs, and he's very good at unusual sound effects. His own band is called Einsturzende Neubauten , German for 'collapsing new buildings'. As for Nick Cave suggestions: you really should check out The Mercy Seat. It has the same kind of energy of this song, manic Cave, not melancholic Cave like Into My Arms. The Mercy Seat is a song from the perspective of someone being executed on the electric chair.

His song The Carny has some of the best lyrics committed to vinyl. It’s a masterpiece and worthy of a reaction.

This was the first record I became a fan of Nick's, so it holds a lot of sentimental value, but there are so many great records. When I saw him this year play a solo show, he introduced this by saying it was a lullaby sung to his baby boy when he'd just moved to Brazil. That got a big laugh, because of the lyrics, but the song makes more sense through that frame.

The first time I saw Nick Cave was this tour. Anyway, I would request The Birthday Party, but I don't think they are really TH-cam reaction appropriate. Someone please prove me wrong. They were really over the top. Nick Cave does the BEST fucking screams, man. It is a shame so many people only dig his ballads and stuff from like this century. His ballads are indeed intensely beautiful, but, The Birthday Party were bloody intense. And interesting. Very sideways rhythmically. OK, bye

Saw them do this song live many times. Always a great concert. But the last time I saw them was after Blixa and Mick had both left, so it just didn't feel the same. And to have Nick do all the vocals on "The Weeping Song" was kinda weird, too. But at least Conway was still alive, so...
