- Homemade Country Sausage Gravy
1 pound sausage
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
4 cups whole milk
3/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
In a large skillet over medium -high heat, brown the
sausage, chopping it into small chunks as it fries.
Once it is no longer pink, reduce the heat to medium- low and sprinkle in about half the flour.
Stir well until flour is absorbed by the sausage and grease. Repeat with the rest of the flour. Cook for another 1 to 2 minutes.
Pour in about half the milk and stir well. Add the rest of the milk, stirring constantly. Cook the gravy, stirring constantly, until it thickens for about 10 minutes. Sprinkle in the seasoned salt and pepper and continue stirring until it is to the thickness you prefer. If it becomes too thick, add another 1/4 to 1/2 cup of whole milk.
I was taught to toast my flour till it was at least cardboard brown before adding the milk or half and half , so much better. 77 years old and still loving it. try it. just subbed, love ur videos
I taught myself how to make gravy many moons ago. I was still in my youth. Once I learned how it was made I make it all the time with all sorts of juices (mostly meat in nature). The roux was the hardest to grasp, but when I did, it was on then...lol
Hello my name is Keith porter I’m deaf I love sausage gravy with biscuits it’s my favorite breakfast dish I had I looked what you make, seem too delicious I truly love it 😂
Tom and Melissa!! Thank you for the very tasty recipes.

You’re very kind. We really do appreciate that you’ve watched our videos. Thank you so much.
This Homemade Country Sausage Gravy with biscuits recipe looks so delicious 😋 Mr. Tom.
I know this video is 8 months old but I'm new and have seen all your videos and HELL YEAH sausage gravy glad you did video I love sausage biscuits 😊
I learned from my dad when I was growing up. He made sausage gravy, hamburger gravy, and creamed chipped gravy, the same way do. As a kid, we ate the gravies at breakfast, lunch, or dinner, on mostly mashed potatoes, or toast, SOS (my dad was in the Air Force). I used to fix it for my daughters, and hope the learned it from me! Thanks, Tom & Melissa for including this recipe!❤😊
Making gravy is something every cook should know how to do. It is so delicious. There are many kinds of gravy with very simple tweeks to your recipe. So good. And you young and new cooks should know that a good gravy can really improve (or even save) a just ok meal. No one will know the gravy was a last minute "save the day" decision. Any grease, sausage, bacon, grease or oil used in cooking meats, shortening, butter, margarine even cooking oil can be used to make gravy - even at the last minute. Over time you'll learn a few tricks of using various liquids vs just water to add flavor quickly. Milk is often very good on its own but if your grease was plain even bouillon made from cubes or granules can go a long way. Whether gravy is planned or a last minute decision. People will just know what a great cook you are. Tom is a great teacher. He makes it look easy. And it is!
I grew up on chipped beef gravy my Dad made for us, love it. He used bacon grease and browned the flour, it was a brown gravy, no milk in it, he used water or beef stock. I fix it once in a blue moon now.
Finally someone makes the sausage gravy RIGHT!
Looks delicious!
Yummy 😋 yummy 😋 yummy 😋 I love breakfast for supper…
So yummy ❤
I don’t know why but I was afraid to make sausage gravy. You are a great teacher. I will make it now!!!! Thank you so much!

We really enjoyed it! Thank you Nene for watching!
I really love your channel!!!!
We appreciate your nice comment! Thank you so much.
My wife learned to make sausage gravy very similar to your gravy from her Grandpa. Going to have to try the season salt. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing
Until I saw your video, I would cook the sausage first and set aside, then I would mix the fat and flour to make a roux, then add milk until it became the consistency we like. I'd add the sausage back in and warm through. Now I add the flour to the sausage as you did, and I like your method so much better. Thank you!
Sometimes it is just more fun to watch someone else cook. You do an excellent job and your gravy looks fantastic. Thank you for another great video.
You're so welcome! And we agree. Sometimes it's very entertaining to watch someone else! Thanks for watching our videos!
Ill have to try the seasoned salt next time i make gravy. Thank you

This gravy and biscuits is the best. Learned from my mom and she just did it by eye. If we didn’t have biscuits we’d put it on bread. Yum.
I can eat that anytime of the day!!! ❤
Love milk gravy sausage or ground beef also good on spuds
Looks delicious ! I make my gravy the same way. But sometimes I add a spoonful or 2 of mild queso to it. It just adds another layer of flavor and it is so smooth and creamy ! Love your channel ❤️
Don’t worry I found the recipe thanks yum can’t wait to try both !
So glad you found it! Maybe you can have breakfast for dinner tonight!
Oh boy this looks so tasty. Yet again gravy goes well on a lot of things. Sausage can take dishes to another level
Thank you, Patrick! We love hearing from you.
I'm from New Zealand and I make my gravy with water, beef stock for flavouring and usually beef mince, not sausage. I'm a bit nervous to try milk gravy but if I do make it, I'll use your recipe. Also, I have made biscuits because my friend from Nebraska first mentioned milk gravy and biscuits a few years ago and we like them. I like to add chopped parsley to my scones for a herb flavour.
Oh wow, what a find! The pre-preparation was great; you prepared it with simple step-by-step instructions, and the plating was gorgeous. You made our mouths water the whole time through. You are a great Chef, and thank you, Melissa, for the beautiful camera work. We are interconnected; like #59, our comment is here, and we will be back for more. Your new friends, Sonja and Christopher, are from the Pacific Northwest in Oregon.
Welcome! It’s great to have you join us at the table. We really appreciate your comments and watching our videos.
@@comesitatmytable9044 you're very welcome! It is our pleasure to support your channel. The gravy looked so good. Have a great week!

😀
My daughter makes sausage gravy for my hubby sometimes and she puts onions in it as well for a little added flavor. It is really good. We also add a little Kitchen Bouquet for added flavor and color.
Mmm... This looks SO tasty! I might have to take you up on your offer to 'come sit at your table!' [hehe]
Great Video! We have been hosting Christmas breakfast for 20 years and after seeing your video on Christmas Eve, we decided to make this gravy! It was a hit and so delicious. I am one of those "scared to make gravy" folks and now I realize how easy it is. Thank you for the video - keep them coming! 🎄🎀
We are delighted to read your comment! Thank you so much for sharing that with us. We hope you continue to watch our channel. We have lots of things you might enjoy.
You make your gravy like I do except I’ve never subbed lawreys for salt…that stuff is good on everything so definitely gonna give that a try! Your fantastic in the kitchen! Blessings guys ❤
Thank you so much! We appreciate the kind words and nice comments.
B and G is one of my favorite dishes. Your biscuits and gravy looks so dyno-mite I have to sub your channel.
Looks yummy. I add a dash of woreshire to mine...
Nice twist to the recipe. We appreciate that you are at the table with us.
😋
Its a southern thing! Thanks
Thanks
Its also good on toast
I love making sausage gravy. Instead of regular salt, i choose to use chicken bouillon powder. It is so good. Otherwise, i make it just like this.
👍
Thank you for watching our channel.
Yum!!!!!
We love breakfast for dinner!
We have sausage gravy and biscuits at least once a month. My friends are like yours, they claim they can't make gravy LOL
Come on, Pat!!! You can make this!!!
We call that white sauce in Australia and we usually have it with corned beef
I like to use 1/2 lb each; mild sausage and sausage with sage. And, I drain the grease prior to adding flour.
What is your favorite sausage brand? We are fans of Odom's Tennessee Pride. I have never been a good gravy maker. Your video has inspired me to try again. I think we need a walk through of Melissa's Scrap Book room!
Tom usually uses Odom’s Tennessee Pride as well. And since it’s a rainy morning, this might be a good time to try it!
The scrapbook room is still a work in progress but give me a few more days and I might be able to give you a walk through. Come visit if you’re in our area! We need to have lunch again sometime, too!
Looks amazing , have you a recipe for biscuits ?
Just saw your comment that said you found the recipe. Enjoy!
@@comesitatmytable9044 thank you I jut posted the question and there it was the recipe for biscuits , can I just say I love the way you talk about your beloved grandma , it’s lovely to hear ,the departed are still in your heart 💓
I also add garlic powder for flavor. Sometimes I add a can of mushroom soup for more flavor
That's a very interesting idea. We are so thankful to have you watching our channel. Have a great day.
what brand sausage do you use
Has anyone else made this recipe and found that the gravy was way too thin? If so, how much milk did you take out? My wife just made the gravy for the first time and the flavor was excellent but describing it as watery would be an understatement. She followed the directions in the video description and actually added a little more flour to try to thicken it up but to no avail. She said next time she might try 3 cups of milk instead of 4. Anyone else had to make a similar adjustment?
Just add milk a little at a time. Allow to cook for a little while between adding more milk. Just keep adding milk until it gets to the thickness you prefer. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
I’m new to the channel. Please understand there is No Negative or Unkind intention here. I couldn’t find a way to send a private message. So, last night TH-cam put a random thumbnail up on my screen of this video. It shocked me and I immediately thought it looked like someone vomited on a plate and posted a hoax. Can you please edit the thumbnail to one that shows the biscuit on top of the gravy ? It will look so much nicer. I want as many people as possible to view and like your channel! Hope you are enjoying Florida!
3:45 can you do a recipe for apple crisp please, your recipes are as awesome as you and Melissa. Can you also do a recipe for lemon meringue pie, and pineapple upside down cake. Have a blessed day
😲 WOW looks absolutely delicious 😋❤️ I Love sausage gravy Yummy Yummy Yummy 😋❤️ God Bless You Both 🤗💜
