- On Thursday, July 27, 2023, the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, in partnership with Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., carried out a thorough cleanup operation targeting a homeless encampment located on Main Street, Dudley Ave., Grand Canal, Canal St., and Mildred Ave. in Venice. The primary objective of this initiative was to address notable health and safety concerns affecting both the unhoused individuals and the general public. During the operation, sanitation workers, wearing white hazardous materials suits, strictly adhered to safety protocols.
LAHSA (Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority) played a crucial role in providing homeless outreach services during the cleanup, offering assistance and support to those affected.
The cleanup operation involved the coordinated efforts of two waste management teams. Initially, Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., sorted through the garbage to identify and collect hazardous waste items, including batteries, urine, and syringes. Subsequently, Los Angeles Public Works sanitation workers took charge of collecting the remaining garbage.
To ensure the safety of all involved individuals and secure compliance from the unhoused population, Los Angeles Police Officers maintained a constant presence throughout the entire cleanup operation, which aimed to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the area.
While the cleanup of homeless encampments in Venice has positive effects on public health and safety, it is important to recognize that it does not offer a long-term solution to the broader issue of homelessness. The City of Los Angeles is actively working on implementing comprehensive strategies to address the root causes of homelessness and provide essential resources and support to those in need.
Notably, despite the enforcement of Ordinance 41.18, which prohibits sitting, lying, or sleeping in public places, as well as storing, using, maintaining, or placing personal property in the public right-of-way, no citations were issued during the cleanup operation at the Venice homeless encampment
The City of Los Angeles remains committed to tackling homelessness in the area and will continue its endeavors to find sustainable, long-term solutions.
Overall, the recent cleanup operation in Venice signifies a significant step forward in enhancing public health, safety, and the provision of necessary resources to unhoused individuals. The City of Los Angeles remains dedicated to its ongoing work in addressing homelessness and striving for lasting solutions.

Tow the motorhome, you know it is unregistered and uninsured!!
If there is a will, there is a way. Keep up the work.
Cats and dogs in the street would be trapped and taken to shelters, but human could live on the street and create more mess than animals.
Streets are not lodgings, no cats, dogs, human and their junks allowed!
I can just hear those worker's singing, Phil Collins song just another day in paradise.
Every time I watch one of these videos I think of that song.
@@saraanderson6615 🤣🤣 me too.
How hard is it to tell people a city street is not an RV parking lot or a campground ?
Hard working cops
Here we go again and again with the homeless it never ends just a repeated recycle ♻️ and the sidewalks seen better days.
Imagine having a home in these areas, paying high taxes, and having to be surrounded with all of that. DAILY.
Six cops standing around doing nothing. Waste of taxpayers money.
you never know if the homeless person will snap and pull out a knife or gun. I think it's better to be safe than sorry, even if it seems wasteful from our point of view
Maybe if you take them into your house, then these police would be doing something else
Good job officers!
Looks like the title should have said California MOTORHOMELESS clean up 😅😅😅
So you can just put a queen size headboard and footboard in the street and think that is okay. Good lawd.
Ich bedanke mich für euchetolle Arbeit in de Beach und in den Strassen beim Santa Monica Police Deparment nette Officer die bei den Reinigungs Aktionen dabei sind und für euche Sicherheit sorgen super
I ran the Santa Monica half marathon back in 1984 ,1985 ,and 1986 . Some parts of the race on these streets that are being cleaned up .Really sad to see how it has become .
God bless these folks cleaning up that crap .I bet it smells horrific !!! Clean up one street go back three weeks later clean it up again
What would they do if they didn’t have all of these shopping carts?? And where do they get all of these mattresses??
Why do you need one, ask them
Imagine interior decoratives within living conditions inside, if outside this tranquil, inside must be equilvent.
10:20 . . . clients using grocery carts for NON grocery activity. If REALLY strict, charge clients fir theft of Grocery Store property. 💀 🇺🇸
Mr. Shabby pants found him a Ford R.V. Huh...
It's like Whack-A-Mole. Nice effort but no solution. They move around the corner and set-up shop. Move out to the desert.
Whack a mole lol
That made me laugh so hard I nearly choked on my water. 😂😂
@@saraanderson6615 oh sorry
Daily viewer
Thank you 🙏
NO bike shortage in the Venice area, that's for sure....
I'm an old guy 61 and all I can think in this video that sidewalk would make a nice launch ramp for a skater
In California, involuntary commitment is subject to strict legal requirements
. Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code allows a qualified officer or clinician to involuntarily confine a person deemed to have a mental disorder that makes them a danger to themselves, others, or gravely disabled
. A qualified officer can request the confinement after signing a written declaration, and the hold is only valid in the county where it is written if it is written by a designated clinician
Even though there are at least SEVEN viable facilities already standing all over LA County, they aren't used for the mentally ill/addicted. They are used as movie sets, sometimes. All that money raised for the homeless, SHOULD have gone to that purpose.
But no.
Bloated salaries to administrators and contractors...and the problem only gets worse!
Absurd that the cop says find a sidewalk that is wide enough for their trash heap. How are people to walk on the sidewalk if the ate blocking it? What about wheel chairs..are they supposed to go into traffic?
I’m not being a apologist for that bro & his Rv;
But that was one of the cleanest, straight RV I’d ever seen parked in Venice.
And then, the cops ticketed him.
What low hanging fruit, LAPD, what s out those wrecks that have been dry docked all around the library for the past 7 years?!???
🙄
The police should check the serial #'s on the bikes and make sure they are not stolen. Seems like they are just standing around most of the time anyway.
That last compound was rather complex. I wonder how long it took to build it?
VALET HOMELESS CLEAN UP, OH MY
This is hilarious. All he has to do is just drive to another street nearby and park it there. Constant game of chess! 😂
SO many police officers to do this?! I guess our taxes have to go somewhere!
Yes it’s hard and fell sorry for all homeless around the world 😞
I’ve seen several bed mattresses taken away in these vids, my question is how do they get them?
dont clen it up stop it look nice for all to see
WHERE ARE YOU DAISY ?
Hey! Here's an idea LA LA Land, a NO CAMPING ON OR ADJACENT TO PUBLIC ROADS, SIDEWALKS or any other public space ordnance punishable by a stay in a mental institution.
Am I imagining that it doesn't seem nearly as bad as it was a few months ago?
I think you are right
Take a look at Kensington Pa. Maybe they all moved there or Oregon perhaps.
And all those shopping carts are stolen as well
Where's Daisy?
Y'know, I live in L.A. and walk past these people everyday. I like that we treat them humanely unlike the states where many of our homeless come from that ridicule us for helping their homeless when they get here.
like when she put a ticket on the window of the rv so they'll be impounding it soon when he can't get proper plates and stuff
Why don’t they impound the broken down motor home instead they all stand around doing nothing
That block looked like part of a Third World Country.
And the KKK say they going to be around forever Holly picked up was a gun it loses some more recruits😮
So what did the popo pick up besides a gun😮
Drugs and drugs and more drugs.
Put that to work. Lazy people.....
full of disease...
This is pure evil! It hot! Its hot and people need cool water, a safe cool place to rest and these mean evil officers push these poor people out! Evil never dies it just wears a cops uniform🥺😞😭
Don’t blame the cops you can’t live on the sidewalk nor in the street
La county valet service my goodness
HEY GET RID OF AND TOW THOSE FIRE HAZARD BIO SANATATION WASTE HAZARD RVs AND TRUCKS AND VANS
What we need is a life size can of RAID !!!! walk down the Pier and just spray the RAID ..... hopefully all the bugs just scurry away or crawl away and die so we can have our cities back. Enough of this infestation of roaches and bed bugs.
