I have a rental property with disintegrating mortar between the 4 large stone walls. I was dreading taking a week of vacation to repair the wall but it was too expensive to hire it out. I found it to be surprisingly cathartic. Now I'm going to tuck point bricks on my mom's house and I can't wait!! Thanks so much for the tips!!

With a lime mortar, how many courses can you lay before it starts pressing the muck out of the first course?

Nice one Rodian. I was shown the opposite way round when I was a lad 🙄😆. Beds - perps - beds - brush , shouldn’t need to top n tail after that.👌🏼

That's interesting, Steve. I'm the same as Rodian, I was always taught to do perps 1st then beds. I've never even thought of trying it the other way round since! I will give if a go though, to see if it ends up being a better way! 👍

When I started back in 1987 we “ stick jointed “
We used a 12mm thick piece of hardwood with the edge rounded off . It was abound 1 foot long and about 4”” deep cut in the shape of a parallelogram. Top and bottom for beds . Ends for perps . They didn’t last long but put a lovely finish on the brickwork 👈🏻🧱👍🏽

what lime are you using ? if its hydrated it'll never set. try using NHL2 or NHL3.5 . 👍
Dirty water makes your mortar take up quicker also with plaster.. 🏴🥃
Haha bloody hell, ive had bricks in australia that suck the water out of mortar that bad you have to join after every course. I Summer it’s a fucking nightmare with those bricks
