Ellen deserves a Pulitzer Prize for her tutorials, her music education, and her original song compositions. She has 2/3 of a million followers for good reason, and has probably taught guitar to more aspiring guitarists than anyone else in history.
Had to accept today this is a skill I will need to practice daily until I get the hang of it. As an electric guitar player delving into acoustic, this was not obvious to me, to have this specific technique as a structured practice objective this way. Been trying to just absorb by watch and listening but it just wasn’t working! Practice practice practice. Seeing your palm mutey paterns near the end where you let some ringing happen on the up strums, that is what made me realize. This is a whole technique I have skipped over through the years. Palm muting for electric players is taught differently, but now I am learning acoustic songs too and experimenting in all guitar techniques. No different than a uncomfortable chord that takes multiple days of practice and nights of rest to sink in and become skill. This will bring my campfire playing the another level. Thank you Ellen, I think you are the best in youtube in this style of guitar playing.
Thanks so much for the heartfelt comment. 🥰 I'm learning new techniques for electric at the moment, so I know how you feel! 🎸 It's strange to be so comfortable with one type of instrument and then switch over to another (that feels essentially the same) but to find all sorts of techniques you've never had to use before! Definitely, daily practice is what will make us both better so best of luck to you on your acoustic journey! 🎶
The palm mute is an essential skill for the guitarist. It's a great way to add/subtract mood and create variety in a song. You've inspired me to do something similar on my channel. Great tutorial! 👏👏👏
Speaking along with the metronome was funny :) Your videos have been really important to me as I picked up my guitar again during lockdown and found you - my first ever guitar tutor - thank you!
This is excellent. I had been really trying to figure out how the palm muting works. Thanks for positioning the camera to the side to help demonstrate. I needed this.
Probably it is the best tutorial for palm muting on TH-cam....really loved it...the way you explained is really simple and easy to understand.....thank you so much for this beautiful tutorial....I have just subscribed your channel and going to be your regular student.😇😇😇....a lots of good wishes for you...take love❤
Thank you so much for watching and leaving such a sweet comment! 🤗 💕 I'm glad you found my tips helpful and hope I'll be able to help you learn even more songs and techniques on guitar! 🎸
hi Ellen , you're really talented , the way you organize the videos are quite awesome , I'm a beginner guitar player learned a lot from your videos . love from India😘😘
Wonderful tutorial !!! So Inspiring and encouraging. I love how you encourage people to do their own thing, you give us the tools and then tell us to develop our own style. I absolutely LOVE it !!!
This video is so useful, Ellen. 🙏💗 Who hasn't struggled with this palm mute? The side views are awesome 👍👏 And I never imagined I needed to find the Sweet spot... I go & search for it immediately, and I'll let you know 😀
I really knew how to do this 😝 I've learned it from ellen before this video came out. It's a natural thing it happens itself when you play guitar and your enjoying it.
You’re a fantastic teacher Ellen. Now, if I can get a tutorial on the Grateful Dead! How’s the electric guitar coming? When I picked up guitar, one of the first riffs I learned was Enter Sandman. I’m trying to learn Thunder Struck.
I prefer to not use a pick when strumming but palm muting seems to be a problem when strumming with no pick. Have you had any difficulty with this or have a tip for that?
i also prefer not to use a pick when i'm strumming most of the time (kind of depends on the song) but i have noticed that when you apply a palm mute to a strumming pattern, it's a lot more... "obvious" that the sound is more punchy and rhythmic when you use a pick in my opinion. you can definitely still apply a palm mute when using your thumb to strum using the tips i have in this video, but i think the sound it makes is not as apparent. good luck!!
0:58 So palm muting is not muting and isn't done with the palm so...is palm muting really palm muting?? (The words 'Palm Muting' don't make sense anymore and I literally do it all the time XD )
hmm, i think palm muting is usually used with steel string guitars, but i don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to use the technique on a classical with nylon strings! 🤔it may not sound the same though. either way, the skill would be the same. 👍thanks for watching! 💕

I even pressure but it sounds muted
my hand is too small. i gonna cry in peace now
I still can’t. If I strum, my hand stops touching the strings.
My hand really hurts after practicing on palm muting
Try to put even pressure! And practice more following it! I hope it will make you better!
@@ghazala9067 thank you very much ❤❤
