coming from a fan of yeatle since overwatch 1 ball plays including off-meta plays and sticking to it, i love your thought process and educational information you dish out and especially your u2gm's where you actually think what would make a difference and whats best for each type of scenarios, a lot of your concepts gave me new insights and got better at the game. i feel like compared to most overwatch stuff out here i consider yours very highly and first in priority because you don't just describe what you're doing in-game you actually give ideas during gameplay. im a plat1-diamond mauga main and im kinda struggling to climb in season 9, i had 65% win rate on season 8 playing only mauga but now im down to about 56%ish this season and its been kinda rough especially vs. doom/sigma/dva and some teammates really dislike mauga on these matchups, i don't usually make comments but i would really love some of your insights of how to climb as mauga on s9 after nerf and dps passive/zen meta etc. im a huge heavy tf2 player and mauga has been a dream come true for me in ow2 and i love every bit of of him, so i really want to make him work and not be a meta-slave per se and i hate counter-swapping. thanks yeatle, huge fan, your content has always been relaxing and informing also love your peaceful attitude while gaming
Great video -- I want to add that Mei also has a great matchup against Mauga. Walling him off from his heals is extremely effective, you have ice block and wall to stall in the cage fight, and blizzard is a guaranteed freeze for cage fight as well. I farmed Mauga's pre-nerf and climbed from master 4 to GM5 exclusively playing Mei.
pro tip; only use your left gun to ignite enemies up close, its more accurate and consistent when single fired, and then fire both once ignited to max out your damage and conserve ammo.
I climbed from gold placement to Master 2 (so far) with Mauga (Zarya as my counter to good Dva's and Sigmas). You always want to test whether the enemy healers will pocket their tank or if the enemy dps will aggro you. When they do either one of those two things, Mauga has to play much more restrained and strategic. Still, always be forcing the enemy tanks cooldowns and resources through raw damage output. Always. Also, kitsune and/or nano will dictate almost every Mauga mirror. If they have one of those and you have neither, you're not winning unless the enemy Mauga is very bad. And if they have bastion + mauga, watch out for turret bastion with lifesteal and damage reduction from cardiac overdrive. You won't kill him, and you will die. But stomping bastion out of turret is often clutch.
if that happen don't worr about it o much. it happened to me only 1 time but, the enemy DVA is trapped inside my ult with a zen and cas. he uses his ulti but we managed to kill zen and cas first and i killed his baby dva before his ult explodes, btw my sweety kiriko uses his sunzu to saves me from the explosion
I have been trouble against zarya players with mauga because of that dumb bubble but when you explain that I can burn her inside the bubble that pop my mind of how simple to play against that lol! Ty you for the tips
Have you tried popping cagefight solely as a shield (not trapping anyone) to absorb damage in a mid-range fight against turret Bastion, Hog ult, or enemy Mauga? If you're starting to lose the fight, you pop ult and gain a brief window of time to lifesteal (with auto reload) without taking any damage. Even more advantageous if you have cardiac.
Hey I think Mauga actually has a great matchup against Mauga. You can deal a lot of damage to him, you can cut the other mauga off from heals by using cage fight and even counter his charge by using your charge!
As an Ana main, a good Mauga will always get my vial on him when I see his Cardiac Overdrive go off. Enemy Maugas suffer greatly while my Mauga feels unkillable which increased healing for almost the entire Cardiac Overdrive Cooldown. Also, Nano is great for those Cage Fight 1v1/2/3/4/5's that Mauga loves doing. I just like having tanks that like taking Damage for me and can peel well when I get Dove.
Play him a lot cause I like his character, he def is weak to longer ranged enemies but once I get in close if I get those ticks people panic and die usually.
I think Genji is pretty good vs Mauga. Getting up in his face with reflect not only denies his healing for a few seconds it also channels damage into him. You can do this in series with a tank like DVa or SIgma and it becomes hard for him to heal or deal any damage.
I completely agree with you on the tier list, except for dva. if she wanna win her team have to help her. her matrix run out before his bullets does, so personally i would put her in b or c, because of where her head is, his spread melts her
so i'm not sure if this is a new thing or if it works consistently but i was playing against a hog as mauga recently and when the hog ulted me i was able to use mauga's charge to negate the knockback of the ult and run to cover (it basically felt like i was ghosting through hog's ult). also, regarding the sigma match up, i've found the most effective dueling strat is to 1) juke sigma's rock then 2) pressure him into using grasp and 3) the moment he grasps charge and slam him which cancels grasp then you can melt him with both abilities on cooldown. i'm sure this is harder to do consistently in higher ranked games (i'm just a gold 1 tank) but i only really have trouble with sigma when he strafes back and forth across his shield.
I wanted to add to the Mauga tips, another way you could get some use of Mauga's ult is force ults with it. If you could get 1 support ult and 1 dps ult. It means you have increased chance to win the next fight easily ( ofc this comes from my experience and i await any tips too)
Symmetra is very annoying when you’re mauga lol. I played a match a bit ago where we had a Mercy and a Dva and they both stuck to my side and Dva didn’t use her ult until I laid down trap. It was awesome. That Mercy was on point with heals and damage increas as well
Lifeweaver is a good counter to Mauga to mention, not HARD counter I would say, but he can stay on a high ground easily, and can pull his teammates out of a Mauga ult, and I think he can escape it with his platform? Idk about Mauga's ult never tried yet, but he can escape Zarya's ult with it no issue
Maybe I'm just in the lower games of casual, but I feel like D.Va should be in C or something cause I've been able to handle D.Va's pretty well depending on the situation. Defense matrix can be rough to deal with, but once she's out of that, you can get huge damage off on her

FR! when i spot an enemy Ana i feel terror because of his nades, nullifying my healing factor and whan it happens, enemy reaper/cass/hanzo automatically wants to get my ass. The same exact thing happens when enemy zenyatta's use his discord on my. i automatically transform into a target with 1.000.000$ of bounty.
Mauga and rein charges cancel each other unlike Rien duels it's more dependent and who hit it first. At least from what I have seen. ~90% mauga if Rien charges first. ~50% if Mauga charges first does the rein charge effect stomp charge.
I def say mauga can counter the rein since he can just obliterate his shield and then destroy rein while using the E so he doesn't lose health. Obviously though while he is destroying the shield he is vulnerable since his E won't work to save him so depending on your positioning is how you'd attack the rein. You can also just charge the rein and stomp him from behind getting a stun and spraying him less than half and being behind him using the E to get him to choose whether he shields you or your team.

What do you think about the soujorn vs mauga match up? I feel soujorn can farm mauga way too easy for powerful railshots. Also Hanzo in some way also can reliability headshot Mauga and his ult can deny space inside cage fight or combo with an ally cage fight
Sojourn is pretty good into Mauga but she doesn't really do anything to him. she does well because she can farm rail and then... rail a squishy in the backline, but she won't really do anything to him. Hanzo is pretty decent against him because the headshots can put some pressure on Mauga, especially if he lands many headshots with Storm Arrow, and he can get Dragonstrike very very fast if he lands headshots often. Ik Dragonstrike ain't the best ult in the game, but even the worst of ults become good when you can get one nearly every team fight lol

Mauga is still surprisingly good down the metal ranks. I hate how much they nerfed him (especially since I started maining him) but now you have to play it safe with him, even in the metal ranks where he's still kinda dominant
Best Tips for Mauga for T500 from a fellow tank player: * Always shoot both chainguns, but only from far away * Shoot the squishies, ideally the very hard to hit ones * If you’re hit by Anti, rush into the enemy team * Trap everyone on the enemy team Thanks for reading. I always feel silly telling high ranking content creators what's what but Orisa being among the Good Mauga Counters, especially with a lot of this seemingly being pre-Mauga-nerf, feels so so wrong. Sure, now that she can't be forcibly crit she does better but even post nerf she feels like maybe the biggest throw pick into Mauga.
The pitfall orisa players fall into is using every cooldown in a short window and never using cover. You do those things and mauga has very hard time killing orisa or getting past her.
Reaper is probably the best DPS counter against Mauga. Orisa and Maug aren't really counters because Mauga disrupts Orisa's style of play and Mauga's just heal each other more than they dmg each other, theyre practically just farming dmg. Junker queen is pretty effective against Mauga if you dont wimp out for no reason, jumping around a Mauga and taking life steal from him works like a charm. Winston works well if you just keep ignoring Mauga, even if he saves his abilities for you, he wont kill you before you can jump out of combat again. Not without skme help at least.
Every hero has a simple ass kit. Every hero is simple. He's fun to play, easy to counter. You have other options. To me, sigma and rein and orisa are boring af. Mauga makes shit happen. He is confrontational. How is that boring?

With rein you have a range disadvantage so you need to properly use cover and manage shield to get in close, block the correct abilities and go aggressive when the opportunity arises. Sigma you have milions of creative ways to hit hyperspheres at targets, lots of important abilites to block with proper shield management and ults to interupt with rock. Orissa is more lika mauga but she still has more options. Mauga only ever has one option and that is shoot
I don't think he's bad design. He has a different playstyle that doesn't conform to tank norms. He doesn't keep his team alive very well, but neither does hog, and Mauga has overdrive whereas hog has nothing to help his team. People are just mad that Mauga is disrupting the tank role and they don't like it. He's fine.

Doom is also practically helpless during cage fight because his most valuable abilities are locked out.
Is his damage mitigation locked out during cage fight? Thats crazy. Good to know if so.

I just started playing OW again after a few years and this is exactly how I used his ULT. I've only played him 3 times. I saved my whole team 😂
Usually I use Cage Fight to enable Dragon Cage (a combination of Mauga and Hanzo's Ultimates).

Another honorable mention is Tracer, she'll weaken you down then toss her nade on you.

Every hero has a simple ass kit. Every hero is simple. He's fun to play, easy to counter. You have other options. To me, sigma and rein and orisa are boring af. Mauga makes shit happen. He is confrontational. How is that boring?
@@KSxPharaoh because he only does one thing and that is shoot. With rein you have a range disadvantage so you need to properly use cover and manage shield to get in close, block the correct abilities and go aggressive when the opportunity arises. Sigma you have milions of creative ways to hit hyperspheres at targets, lots of important abilites to block with proper shield management and ults to interupt with rock. Orissa is more lika mauga but she still has more options. Mauga only ever has one option and that is shoot
Just delete Mauga alltogether. Terrible character design.

I don't think he's bad design. He has a different playstyle that doesn't conform to tank norms. He doesn't keep his team alive very well, but neither does hog, and Mauga has overdrive whereas hog has nothing to help his team. People are just mad that Mauga is disrupting the tank role and they don't like it. He's fine.
Doesn't he still self heal even when naded?
