I know this was 2 years ago, but I just wanted to leave a supportive comment (since the others aren't, really).
It is so wonderful to hear of a father who wants to sew and do what he can for his family. I really hope you were able to keep this up! What you and your family can get out of sewing is so much better than anything store bought, or can enhance what was store bought (like new clothes for their dolls, or keeping existing clothing in good condition)!
      Keep up the good work

I know it’s been SEVEN YEARS, but I reference this video as a “refresher”, as well as recommend it to others, quite often! Today is another one of those days! It is 09 Feb 2024! I am a crocheter mostly, but this stitch is used from time to time, but not often enough - FOR ME, personally, to feel completely confident. At any rate, I appreciate you STILL and thought I’d pop into the comments and say so, on the off chance y’all will see this! Thank you so very much - again! 😊 cheers! Lisa in Ohio ☺️🫶🏻🧶🪡🧵

Maggy, I got the idea for a Coleman camp oven cover from the beginning of this TH-cam video. This will show you what I was try to describe to you:
"Lake Mead Rec Area Camping, Hiking, Coleman Oven Baking! Full Time Van Life!"
The only difference in my version would be the welding blanket type (3/8" thickness "felt" type welding blanket like I explained to you previously) and hand sewing the back seams.
    Thank you for your time,
    Paul

  • @Trekker57

Hi Maggy, I've looked at a couple of your TH-cam videos on hand stitching, and I have to say that I'm really impressed with your expertise on sewing and also your ability to transfer that knowledge to us so easily!
I'am a 69 year old male that has a sewing project to perform. I need your expert advice. Mind you, what I know about sewing you could fit in a thimble(get it?...thimble...LOL!). Anyway I would really appreciate your advice.
I'am going to make a thermal cover for my Coleman camp oven to increase its thermal efficiency. The oven is basically a metal box that you would sit on top of a camp stove over one of the burners. The burner would heat up the inside of the box so that it performs like an oven.
So here is what I plan to do: I have a welder's blanket that I would cut to shape to cover the top and sides with an overlapping flap for the back side. It would then be just a matter to sew the two back left and right corners together to the sides to make the thermal cover(I even bought Kevlar thread-heat proof). The welder's blanket is like a thick soft felt(3/8" thick). I plan to butt the back flap up against the side material and sew it together thereby completing a cover for the top, sides and back of the oven. The front of the oven will remain exposed.
My question is: What type of hand stitch would you recommend? I was thinking the "blanket stitch" would probably work if I pushed the needle through the material at the very corners of the box.
I'am open to any suggestions that you might have even if it means using another type of stitch.
Thank you in advance for helping an old man with sewing....};-) .

This was so so easy to follow. I'm doing some Christmas decorations and in the instructions it said to blanket stitch and I had visions of it being so confusing with the picture that was provided.

I got a plushie kit for Christmas, one of those that have the pieces pre-cut. It calls for this stitch and I’ve had no reason to use it before now and the instructions were absolutely awful.
Thank you so much for being so clear and helpful!! ❤️❤️
