How conflict and anger led me to finding Inner Peace | Shannon N Smith | TEDxHimi

  • What is peace? Is it possible to live peacefully in this ever complex world? Shannon Smith shares his view through his own life story where he frustratingly wandered off into the world of mind-altering drugs, a religious cult, rejection, isolation and suffering. Though the path he took may not initially seem to have anything to do with peace, he says, “Conflict and anger led me to finding Inner Peace.”
    -----
Shannon N. Smith was born to an American father and a Japanese mother. He studied at an International/American school in Japan until he graduated from high school. He had a lot of opportunities to be exposed to various cultures. Through his experiences, he has visualized his desire for world peace, free from chains such as religion, race and culture. However, as a result of considering and taking actions according to this belief, he has trodden a thorny path and has had close calls with death.
He gave his whole life to achieve his goal, but he didn’t anticipate that things he strongly believed in would be turned upside down, or that someone he trusted would leave him. Taking the hard road was stimulating but difficult. Before long, he found something really important as a person, which he had overlooked for many years. He now works as a translator/interpreter, speaker curator, English teacher, and also helps and supports people using mindfulness in order to bring out the best in them.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Inner peace will find you. You're on your way. Most aren't aware of their mental state, you know what you've become and the pain you feel will push you to change. Remember the same way you changed, you can change again. This is life my friend, and when you're back to your birth state, you'll look back and realize how mentally impenetrable you've become

Greatly hope that you are doing better, please try to keep in mind that your age, your prefrontal cortex is not yet fully developed in the brain(you may research). Maybe that can help explain some of what you are going through. Hope it helps you🙏

Hi Koko, I'm 43yrs old. Move away from anger as soon as you can (regardless of the scenario). Don't waste any more of your precious time or life.
How.....well that's for you to work out.
But do it as soon as you can.

The fact I know what religious group and exactly how he feels is mind blowing but also a breathe of fresh air because I know I am not the only one who sees how corrupted this organization truly is.

It's like he was angry for being told what to do his entire life that the Meth was telling him what to do then he wound up telling people what to believe and now he understands all perspectives of his life so he can teach people who are willing to learn like myself.

Let’s just say that I’ve overestimated people when I was a kid. Now I look at the ridiculousness, hypocrisy, and stubbornness of people with embarrassment that I’m a human. I would do anything to change the world. But then I gave up. I wish I could be care free and happy without needing to get involved with people’s conflicts. But I’m still struggling a bit. I realized that what I value is freedom. And not being alone. But I can’t be free when I’m with people. Now I’m struggling to decide. Any advice?

This is a way to improve the relationship with the objective world and strive for freedom by transforming the subjective world. Its core is to transform knowledge into wisdom. Consciousness-only thinking uses eight consciousnesses to explain the structure of mind consciousness. The main function of the first six consciousnesses is cognition; the seventh and last consciousness is also called ego consciousness, which is the source of all troubles, so this consciousness answers the fundamental question of life and death in reincarnation. The eighth alaya is the mind body. It is the reason for the existence of life, the source of the continuous karmic cycle, and the source of the realization of the world’s dharmas, because the alaya is a kilesas, and the all dhammas manifested by it are also vain. You persist in feeling driven by inner peace, living environment does not indeed relied on signs.
