So - in this, the Information Age, we rural folk with poor or no internet service are denied access to information !! I’m talking schools, hospitals, police stations, security services, etc. Talk about Freedom ? Not so much - we need this service…
Keeping SA people in the dark is huge business… looks like people will be in prepaid phones for a very long time .. Cable tv and telephone lines are a thing of the past for almost 20yrs now
Starlink must set up manufacturing and distribution warehouse in South Africa to operate. We cant be sending money away without any injection in our economy.
Type approval is a process where a regulatory body, such as the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), verifies that a product or device meets certain technical and safety standards before it can be sold or used in a particular market. Licensing is an international requirement, and there are other African Countries where Starlink is not licensed, but being used. Those countries are now clamping down on lack of respect for local and International Laws.
There should be other alternatives, why is starlink the end all be all? It's like we're losing out on something. If SA can't support and put money in it's own citizens to develop these things then go for Chinese companies. Too many options.
What are you talking about ? Starlink was free, I mean did anybody pay ? Well if they are forced to get a licence in SA, we will have to pay. I was doing my live streaming when SA was playing Rugby. You need to go and do your homework you dono how this shit works.
Politics aside, we need to thread carefully around starlink. It has advantages like coverage but it won't benefit a regular individual, we have been pushing for lower data/internet fees and the local carriers have been somewhat listening. Starlink will destroy our local industry to a point where it becomes a monopoly and unragulatable given Mask's arrogance. I see a lot of commentators are focusing on the BEE with so much negative emphasis that kind of makes a regular citizen a bit angry, but we need to go by the rules and regulations. We are a sovereign state.
@@EinadManhoffThe problem is, you are putting forth conspiracy theories. VERY unproven ones and actually debunked by individuals. That's why you get removed.
Put the state aside for a second. Starlink won't be as inexpensive as fiber, ever, or be as fast. As long as the local companies get to the rural bits eventually, this will be used only as a stepping stone. But, the reason we don't have fiber there yet, IS the government. See the last 30 years for context. Bloemfontein, where Telkom's head exchange is, already had fiber optic telecommunications in the early 90s...
@@EinadManhoff there are South African owners, and they have employed a lot of South Africans as well. Think of Mr Jacobus Petrus Bekker who is doing excellent around the world.
For those judging SA go and look at how long India blocked star link, it was for 3yrs. It was only offered to be active from this month in April. They told them they need to work with local companies or they won’t exist at all. In the end you need to protect local businesses no matter what. Look at what Temu which was launched this year February in SA and now it’s April but it’s driving local businesses crazy. Regulations need to protect the public and the country overall.
They want to follow the rules. They are terminating service to follow it. I'm just saying if you don't live in a shithole that has no form of internet don't comment about what you don't understand
Musk has demonstrated that he has a spine of a jellyfish...He bends to pressure as he did in the Palestine/Israel issue. We cannot have a service provider like that who will open us to US interference. Musk can do business in the rest of the continent.

all the more reason why you should kick ANC out of office
Starlink doesn't want to buy coldrink and allow ministers to "eat".
ANC comrades want a cut.
...that how business is conducted everywhere...that is everywhere
@@MusehanaH😊 the government is thugs, I use that service to stream live. We actually benefit with starlink.

Bro the ANC just wants money. The US should sanction SA more.
You still would have the benefit of providing internet to rural folks which would have access to internet education, priceless!
What is the economic impact of Starlink being switch off on the 30th of April in Southern Africa
Shit, I used it to do live steaming 😢 SA Government are thugs

Its got nothing to do with licenses and BBBEE ownership. Its got everything to do with "BIG BROTHER" watching you!
The ANC think all companies are stupid . They must continue with the MTN and Telkom and they Chinese hardware
Other countries don’t have infrastructure, hence they need Starlink. But SA is mostly connected, so they can afford the stand-off for compliance.
So they shouldn't fear starlink since the alternatives are so much better right?
I like the part where its "mostly" connected.
