    Our NPO is trying to set up internet access to rural schools where there is no coverage by SA mobile companies. The government is blocking StarLink because it would kill it's cash-cow, Telkom satellite service, which is 7x the price and doesn't perform as well. The question we should be asking is what is more important - profits for SOE's or education for rural learners.

      Rural areas need food not interned connection that they cannot afford.. he must give or sell the satellite to local operators

      I work in this field, internet coverage can be brought to any part of SA now. Only money and the will to do it matters now.

    Why does ANC not ask Google, Facebook and youtube or tiktok to sell 36 % ownership to South Africa
    Yet they still operate and do not pay taxes in South Africa.

      There is nothing frustrating....zero frustration. Nada...we have laws that should be adhered to.....we adhered to Grouo Areas Act and there was no issues until apartheid was overthrown.....

    I get 220 Mbps in NZ! And a ping of about 20ms and costs $159 NZD, I got it because I live rural and work from home.

    I am confused. Would this mean that the South African representative of Starlink should be 30% owned? I mean, how else can McDonalds / Starbucks / etc. operate in ZA?
    Is it because every McDonalds restaurant is 30% BEE owned?

    Yeah this is sad but then Elon Musk can't be the exception if these are the laws of this country. If it is true(very possible in this country) the anc wanted to be part of the deal then Elon was right to say NO.

    Demanding 30% is just an extra tax on Starlink becsause remember they will also require Starlink to pay tax. That means Starlink would be losing 60 percent to ANC---I mean south Africa.
    Would YOU be willing to give up 60% of your business' returns to operate in South Africa?
    Didn't think so.

    This must come through a South African service provider. Reasons, infrastructure support and job creation. Been using American based product providers It's a hustle to get support from those people. Time difference and geographical priorities

    South Africa cannot afford to continue without Starlink.
    Current ISPs are woefully inadequate and cannot support the requirements.
    The thieving ANC shoul look at the interests of the country, rather than lining their pockets and fillingvtheir personal bank accounts using racist laws which they invented purely to enrich themselves and their friends, families and cadres.

    having starlink would severely impact south Africa mobile network companies. this means we will be hurting ourselves just to have starlink. it would make sense if such a company is not entirely owned by foreigners.

A satellite technology like starlink could be operated all the way from America by Americans with all American shareholders. This means we creating jobs and sending our big money to America.
