i updated mine today but i got a red light blinking on the motherboard after i turned the X on? why is that? would love to get a reply!!! samsung 990 pro 4tb heatsink version!!! No one in the internet or not even google have any data about it!!!!
I replied on your other comment. I now am running the 990 pro with heatsink. This drive has a built in red light on the drive. It blinks red occasionally and that’s normal. Are you having issues booting into windows ? It’s likely you never saw the red light before. I can show you on mine if you hop into the discord
@@cppctek first of all thank you so much for your reply! No im not facing any problem but first it went too bios and showing that the Ssd is not plugged in. Then I plugged it back again then it booted normally except that weird red light blinking all the time in the back when downloading or playing stuff. should I worry?
I recently went through this process with my Ally X. Upgraded to the Samsung 990 PRO with Heatsink (The stock RED heatsink). Only thing I would recommend anyone getting ready to do this is NOT to remove the white ribbon cable. Simply prop it up against something (I used a book) and allow it to chill there while you REMOVE the battery cable. So long as the system is no longer receiving power you are good to go and can comfortably proceed with upgrading your SSD. The reason for not removing the white ribbon cable is because it's not only very delicate, but also, there is a very good chance you will not slip it back in correctly but might be convinced you did. Just avoid the guessing game if things are placed back correctly or not by removing the least amount as possible. During this project I observed that only the battery cable was truly necessary to remove. Aside from that, the entire process is incredibly simple. Best of luck to everyone trying this out.
Thanks for the comment. I’m glad you’re enjoying your x and the 990 pro. Since this video I’ve had dozens of other ones but I also have been using the 990 pro with the heatsink. Ive done tons of mods to my device and removed the white ribbon cable hundreds of times. Literally hundreds. Mine still goes in and out and functions just fine. As long as you remember to flip the lever before and after you insert or remove the cable you’re fine and it’s not fragile.
@Fahran we are under embargo which means I can’t share any details yet untill tomorrow. Rules are rules If other people go against the rules that’s between them and Asus
@@cppctek it is crazy they did an embargo on release . Typically it’s a few days before . I understand peoples grievances but it’s not because of the people with the devices
I enjoyed the exploration of the ally x when taking the backplate off and looking at more than the SSD itself - great information. Thank you for the thorough explanations as always. Great video!
One more question I’m a PC Noob lol. I will be getting my ROG ALLY X tomorrow and the Samsung 990 pro the next day will I need to transfer anything over to the new ssd from the old one and what be the best way to do that in your opinion.
@darrellrichardson5837 youll need to either clone the drive or use the cloud recovery when you boot up. It’s not too bad. Theres a bunch of videos on doing cloud recovery on the Ally out there
@@cppctek i updated mine today but i got a red light blinking on the motherboard after i turned the X on? why is that? would love to get a reply!!! samsung 990 pro 4tb heatsink version
@hamimarko353 the 990 pro has a red blinking light built into the drive. It’s always blinking you just never noticed it likely. Unless it’s not booting into windows. Lmk if your having an issue booting or if it’s just the red light
I went with a 2 tb 990 evo plus. Not as hot but gets better reads and same writes as 980 Pro. I dont need 4 gb even dual booting in bazzite, I have a souped up 4080s rig for bloated AAA games. About to get an egpu dock for my spare 3080 and see how that performs with ally x, maybe ill change my mind
@carlossxx267 temps on the nvme 30-50c idle vs gaming at 30w turbo Apu temps range from 60-75c gaming at 25w turbo or 70c 30w turbo. Thermal pads on the cable ? Why ? No that’s not needed. They are highly resistant to heat and won’t be affected by the surface temp of the nvme heatsink. The die temp is not the same as the surface temp of the heatsink
@@cppctek Nice! I really appreciate the input, I’m getting my ROG Ally X this weekend and I’m just going to use my SSD from my ps5, it already has a heat sink and was worried about it being so close to the battery.
@cppc, a video testing the temps with and without a heatsink with HW64 to get all drive temps, including the SSD controller temp. Would be helpful. Showing stress tests and various gaming workloadsAlso giving info on what is a good temp for most drives in these scenarios including SSD controllers. Watt pulls from various SSDs. Lastly squeaky triggers and trigger issue causes and fixes. There really is a lot of back and forth on heatsinks and Squeaky triggers seem to be a thread popping up on reddit.
Will the Samsung 990 Pro with heatsink fit?? The heatsink is triangular so I'm thinking no issues with the power plug, but it could be a little high for the cable????
@@cppctek be sure to give yourself enough wire on both ends when you cut the blue wire (pin 3) to resolder everything back together. The Ally X will not charge the battery anymore unless if pin 3 has been reconnected to repower the enable pin on the BMC controller.
@@cppctek also, the 40wh battery won't work with the Ally X either with our modifications to the motherboard side pin 3. It's not something I'm willing to test, I don't want Asus / best buy to have to worry about open box returns with people buying an X just to swap the batteries and return

One guy that did the clone thing had to get a key from his Microsoft Device manager then had his drive partitioned by the Ally with a recovery and some weird part you couldn't use. He had to use a partitioner to remove the recovery one and add the unusable one to the drive partition. Wish you could've showed that the drive was all usable when it turned on
Hi I have a couple of questions. I just bought the rog ally X still in the box haven’t opened it yet. Since I haven’t played with it. I want to install a 4 tb. Do I still need to clone the 4 tb hard drive or can I just install it like that since I haven’t played with it yet? And I want to put a 1 tb S D card what do you recommend?
Pop the nvme in first. It will boot to bios where you can find cloud recovery and it will install windows with all the software straight to your new nvme drive. Easier than cloning if you don’t have a cloner and the size will be perfect and you won’t have to mess with the partition size after cloning
@cppctek I got the 990 ps5 version. Already has a heat sink. Cool thing about it too, you can change the rgb settings on the m.2 through an app. So it lights up in the back. The heat sink is shaped perfectly to fit. Expensive but a great day one upgrade. I put the original ssd in an enclosure so I have another 1t external. Plus a 1t micro sd. I think I have plenty of storage now! 1t is not enough lmao😂 also re-pasted because asus uses worthless paste. Thing is a an awesome handheld. Hall effects on the way!!
Hell yeah brother !! That’s a nice upgrade ? What paste did you use ? I actually think the stock ASUS paste is good it’s actually not really paste. It’s called ptm which is a harder material when it’s cool and softer when it’s hot and her really good thermal transfer efficiency. It’s a phase changing material. What I’ve done on the original ally is I’ve tried about 10 different thermal paste and almost all of them have what’s called pump out effect due to the heat and pressure and they end up pumping out and drying out a lot faster than most applications esp since it’s direct die also. But the best was kingpin kpx paste for temps but only by 1c compared to stock but what did make a bigger difference was using thermal grizzly’s new kryosheets. That is a lifetime sheet that never breaks down and it has the best performance and fills the gap perfectly. I use those on everything these days. 10/10 you should check it out Here’s the link. I think a 33x33 will fit too but the 38x38 is same price pretty much so in case you mess up cutting. Just use some super duper sharp scissors to cut it and wear some vinyl gloves or unpowered rubber gloves. Skin oils will contaminate it. It cuts really easy but if you use big dull scissors it may make a rough cut. Just be sure to cut to the exact size of the die. amzn.to/4f0Kcr9 (affiliate)
I have the 990 pro 2TB without the heatsink. I get around 65C max while gaming which I feel is still ok but I see so many people saying a heatsink is highly recommended. Would this heatsink you linked here be one of the better ones? I have been seeing I'd get roughly a 10C drop. Biggest thing I worry about is my drive being wide open throwing heat onto my battery cable which may be a problem down the road so I figure I'll throw a heatsink on it. Great video btw, subbed up.
thanks! So i strongly suggest a heatsink of any kind, watch the newer video I did showing the new mods and advice on nvme tips too. Also even corsair started putting warning labels on nvme drives that dont have a heatsink saying its strongly suggested to get optimal speeds and I personally have spoken on the record with several other drive manufactures and they all strongly suggest drives have a heatsink. dont worry about the battery cable, its 100000% fine but watch this one if you haven't seen it yet th-cam.com/video/u8Rje88XnVA/w-d-xo.html
I wish i could enjoy the handheld more. Had to sold mine after doing a ssd upgrade. I got 2, i end up selling mine, my little nephew ended up making his as a desktop pc with a dock lol Next time, ill get those $1k and build a good pc instead. Is a fun device but we usually only use it at home and prefer desktop setups more.
I literally got the blue screen and it's booting up to BIOS and not showing the storage anymore of thr 990 pro.... Okay I just rebooted and it's normal again strange
Is there a tutorial on cloud back up? I need to back up my main drive. I have an nvme samsung 990 4 TB. Don’t want to get an enclosure if I don’t have to. Thanks
Unfortunately the cloud restore is just a restore of a stock ASUS image and doesn’t include any files. You’d need a program like backblaze or some cloud program that can backup your data if your not using the windows one drive utility to backup files and even then it’s always a limited thing that windows picks and chooses.
So, I accidentally popped off that little silver part at 4:20 that holds the battery cable in....Tried my best to put it back but had no luck. Should I be worried if it's not there?? 😭
Oof. Yeah I mean you could technically run it without it but the battery connector may pop off. Not suggesting hot glue but also suggesting hot glue lol jk plz don’t use that advice as it could melt the connector but at thr same Time could also work. 😂 Really tho jump by the handheldmodz discord and post a video and lemme see if me or the bros and come up with something
@@cppctek Dang, yea I just used more force than necessary, and it just popped fully out. Nothing is broken but I just don't have the space to try reattaching it unless I remove the actual battery than I'll probably be able to pop it back in. Thanks for responding really quick tho!
Nice one, Bro. I just wanted to ask ,did you peel the sticker off before installing the heatsink ? Or did you leave it on and simply installed the heatsink on top, and does that matter ? Cuz I checked online, and many say that you shouldn't take the sticker off because it dissipates heat already and should simply apply the heat sink on top of it. But I'm still skeptical about that, so I decided to check with you . Cheers and keep up the fantastic work, man.
The sticker for the 990 pro? No when you use an nvme drive it’s best to leave sticker on because it may void warranty if you remove it. I don’t notice any heat difference either with or without sticker. The old school stickers use to make a difference sometimes tho if they were thick enough paper
The battery connector metal plate slides down. I’ve made a few other videos when I’ve done more and I show it a more in detail. The tool kit? The electric screwdriver? I’m not sure about Canada but you can check xcool website
@@cppctek so sorry disturb you what heat sink you recommend for the Asus Rog Ally X , because I am getting the WD_SN850X M.2280 PCIE 4TB SSD. Can kindly please advise my as many people say the Asus Rog Ally X get very hot when playing games . Please kindly reply me soon thanks😊👍
So I'm guessing the RAM was moved to the other side of the motherboard and that might be why I"m hearing a few complaints about how warm the screen is now?
Screen is cooler than the og ally. They have a new air channel that sends air from one of the fans under the board and between the screen. If anyone is saying the screen is warmer than the og ally, I’d love to see some proof of that claim because it doesn’t align with my findings or asus claims.
The link you put for the SSD there’s an option to buy the pro with the heatsink. Would that be safe ? I’ve read on people buying SSDs with heatsinks and the wires melting, so I’m really unsure on what heatsink or SSD to get.. between the 990 pro with the heatsink or the WD_BLACK 8TB SN850P NVMe M.2 SSD with the heatsink.
@@cppctek would you recommend any sort of thermal padding on top of the heatsink to avoid any burning/melting of the wires ? I’m very bad with tech so I tend to over-concern
No one’s wires are melting. I only saw one post out of thousands of people who did the upgrade. That one guys cable looked like it was torn and shorted out don’t let the haters or people will skill issue worry ya. Just grab that 990 pro with heatsink and it’s all you need. Run it daily and my cables aren’t melted and I’ve had mine since before launch day. No one’s stuff is melting or else I’d be all over that one lol.
I ordered 2 heatsinks, one 10mm and one 0.5mm, unfortunately the 10mm was a bit too tight and squished the battery cables (it was a bit wider than the one one this video, hence I couldn't squeeze the cables to the side like this video showed). Do you think the 0.5mm copper heatsink would suffice for the 990 pro? Or should I order another 3mm heatsink?
I upgraded to the X from the original… I had installed the 2tb 2230 drive in the old one. Is it possible to use that in the X? I don’t think it has a hole in the board at the 2230 length to secure the drive. The drive, other than that should work, no? If so do you have any ideas of how to keep it in place?
They make adapters on Amazon to bridge the gap but it’s not advised to use the same windows install from the og. Drivers and power profiles were changed and you will have worse performance overall and maybe some other problems
The adapter is on the way now. Can’t believe I didn’t think to check that before. Since I’ve already setup the X, and dialed it in, I can clone the drive, to the aforementioned 2 tb, I reckon. Do you have a favorite drive cloning software that’s either free or inexpensive? Appreciate any and all input. Thank you.

Slightly off topic here, but I am exceedingly curious about a couple of oddball things I happened to notice while farting around near that obsurdly large bucket wheel digger. First off, would you(Or anyone else for that matter...) happen to know what that unpopulated FFC connector hanging from the wall and located just above and behind the right hand analog stick's daughterboard is for? Second question: Does the Ally run cooler with or without the flap of plastic sheet that covers the SSD and the cpu's heat block? I took it off when I installed the HandheldDIY rear case, but hadn't bother to check what effect it might have had in the device. That's all. I apologize for being so long winded, but I'm dying to know what on Earth those two things are for exactly. Thanks for your time!
Not sure if I am missing it, is there anything on fully replacing the X analog set up? Not just the sticks, found your video on that, but also the internal components
Nice content! Finally the long question has been answered it really fit the 2280 with heatsink! Thanks and continue to educate us bro. BTW, just wondering if the NVME temp reached to 70c-80c will the battery cable melt since it almost touching the heatsink?
Cable completely fine. Temps you will have to wait till tomorrow which I’ll fully go over. I didn’t want to break my agreement with asus on not releasing temps or benchmarks
@RexcorCoIE Ally x battery will fit but you need a spacer for the stock backplate and you have to rewire the battery cable and a little soldering is required. I’m waiting to see if an adapter gets made first before I show it off
New to 2280, now that we see space is there, any harm in using the preinstalled heatsinks on the 990 or SN850x? I bought both on prime day and dunno which to keep.
@@cppctek any preference between the two? Seems the early drive failures might be behind the 990. Small price difference between the two but not sure if performance negates that.
What is the specs of the default ssd in the ally x? I can't find much info about that. I'm curious if the speed will be faster or slower then my 2tb WDsn770 that I already have as an extra drive in my gaming pc
Where did you get the clear bands that you have around your SSD to help secure the heatsink? I also bought a thin copper one on Amazon but worry about it sliding off over time.
@AtlasRega interesting. Thanks for the update. What part of it was giving clearance issues so I can take another look. The height surely isn’t a problem. I’m guessing possibly the screws ? There’s also a chance they made a revision. Ill go ahead and purchase another one and check
No it does not as long as you don’t damage the device in the process. Also keep your original drive so if you ever have to rma it or sell it you can keep your files and easily and quickly put it back stock
I ordered a 4tb sn850x, it appears to storage components are on both sides of the SSD, should I be worried about the excess heat being applied to the battery wire. Additionally, I plan on adding a heat sink, but how would I best address the bottom side?
Double sided drives in the Ally x are perfectly fine unlike in the Ally. The 850x is an awesome drive. You won’t run into heat issue but I would add a heat sink if it doesn’t come with one
@jbarajasp if it’s a double sided drive yeah grab one of the ones in the description. Both options I listed have double sided to keep memory cool on both sides.
@cppctek Just the video I've been waiting for, thanks man. I see you added 2 links for heatsinks, which do you recommend? The 2nd heatsink (wavlink) looks thicker, will it fit?

If you are cloning the drive with an external cloner yes but if your not going to buy an external nvme cloner and you wanna do the cloud recovery you should not set it up first
@@cppctek thank you! I wasn’t planning to do cloning or cloud recovery. I wanted a fresh start from my pc. But I’m wanted to download steam, etc to download games from there directly intel the unit.
@imross7985 just don’t clone your desktop drive plz. That will be a bad time due to significant driver differences, power profiles and more. Cloning only the ally x drive to a blank drive is going to be a good time. Asus even discourages cloning an og ally drive to an ally x
Question, you showed the battery cable had plenty of room with the back cover off. I'm concerned once you replace the backcover the battery cable may remain pressed up against the m2 heatsink. Given the 990 pro heatsink can get up to 70c+ do you think this may be an issue?
I really wish the battery cable wasn't centred rather to the right and away from the M2 heatsink - I'm worried having it pressed up to a 70c+ m2 (990 pro) heatsink will cause potential failures.
@Fahran the outside of the hestsink won’t get near hot enough to even melt it. I ran some test and don’t think it’s going to get near hot enough to matter at all in thr slightest
No I mentioned you don’t need a cloner, you just can use the cloud recovery option baked into the ally. Super simple. Connects to the web and can click a few simple buttons and boom your back running windows if you don’t have anything at all to clone it with. That’s called cloud recovery
If you plugged in a brand new drive and never did the cloud recovery on said drive or using an external cloner that’s normal. You have to navigate through bios and find cloud recovery button inside bios and go through it. The windows is stored ONLY on the nvme storage drive not the handheld itself so there’s nothing. For it to boot into

Correct me if I'm wrong but if I buy the 990 Pro from Amazon cant I just buy the 1 with heatsink and not have to worry about buying seperate heatsinks? Kinda new so just asking so I buy the right thing....
Yes indeed but many people would rather save a few dollars and install it but I’d say the safer and easier option is to buy it with the heatsink. I just got one myself for the ally x with heatsink this weekend and it’s my new fav. I’m doing a video on it now. amzn.to/3CJu8Mh Here is the link to the one with the heatsink (affiliate 🔗 )
@cppctek yes now when it turn on it brought me to the bios utility ez mode I did save an exit but it keeps bringing me to it. What's the next step after that?
@Kingnabor well since you put a brand new drive in there, you have to get windows on there. Windows as you know is stored on the nvme drive. You’ll see cloud recovery option in the bios if you hit the y button and go to second tab I believe. Just follow the procedure for cloud recovery. The nvme drive is essentially the brains of a computer where the entire file system and everything is stored. So unless you used an external nvme cloner to clone 1:1 you’ll have to do cloud recovery to download the stock image of windows from ASUS cloud or you can use a usb with a windows installer
@enzoreci i definitely didn’t say that at all 😂. The information has been public for a long , long time that it has the same exact cpu / apu. Did you see my first video on the Ally x ? You should watch that first because you should be aware of everything else first

@@cppctek Cool! Will you be exploring making that laptop battery hot-swappable? Example like a USB powerbank but instead its connected parallel with the 80Wh battery. Another example, power tool batteries like dewalt where you can detach and attach.
Most high end SSDs have internal heat controllers so I doubt you need that heat sink. I’m confused why you add one of the SSD itself doesn’t require it? Edit: per the WD_black SN850x features: “Overheat management, Internal thermal management systems”
You need to watch previous videos about why the heat sink is needed. Added one to my OG Ally gained several FPS and lowered my operating temperatures by several degrees.

Is that the kind that’s made or compatible for the PS5
So the Samsung stock heatsink fits without coming into contact with the power cable above it? If so that's awesome!
Indeed
Heck yeah glad your enjoying it
Just ordered mine through the Samsung website using my student account email got a discount

Heck yeah ! Lmk how you like the egpu
I just bought samsung 4TB with heatsink.. to upgrade my ally x also. Thanks for the video
How are the temps? Did you use thermal pads for the wires connected to battery?
@carlossxx267 temps on the nvme 30-50c idle vs gaming at 30w turbo
Apu temps range from 60-75c gaming at 25w turbo or 70c 30w turbo.
@@carlossxx267 the temp normal bro.. i always play with the batterai plug in. Also i setting in the samsung wiz to performance.
Which heatsink did u buy?
@cppc, a video testing the temps with and without a heatsink with HW64 to get all drive temps, including the SSD controller temp. Would be helpful. Showing stress tests and various gaming workloadsAlso giving info on what is a good temp for most drives in these scenarios including SSD controllers. Watt pulls from various SSDs. Lastly squeaky triggers and trigger issue causes and fixes.
There really is a lot of back and forth on heatsinks and Squeaky triggers seem to be a thread popping up on reddit.

One guy that did the clone thing had to get a key from his Microsoft Device manager then had his drive partitioned by the Ally with a recovery and some weird part you couldn't use. He had to use a partitioner to remove the recovery one and add the unusable one to the drive partition. Wish you could've showed that the drive was all usable when it turned on
Great tutorial
I used the exact same SSD and it’s perfect
Tysm
do you have to take the battery cable off or can you just pull the nvme out and upgrade it
Just be careful, I’ve done it without
@@cppctek your channel is really helpful
@@cppctek thank you 🙏🏼
@cppctek I got the 990 ps5 version.
10/10 you should check it out
Here’s the link.
Also even corsair started putting warning labels on nvme drives that dont have a heatsink saying its strongly suggested to get optimal speeds and I personally have spoken on the record with several other drive manufactures and they all strongly suggest drives have a heatsink.
dont worry about the battery cable, its 100000% fine but watch this one if you haven't seen it yet

I literally got the blue screen and it's booting up to BIOS and not showing the storage anymore of thr 990 pro.... Okay I just rebooted and it's normal again strange
Make sure it’s plugged in all the way and screw is snug for nvme. Sometimes windows can be weird. Lmk if it happens again
Glad you got early access. 🙌

Smaller fans but denser fan blades. Perhaps a better motor design too?
Way more efficient fans and they have a way better tone. 5c lower than a stock og ally also.
I used the Kingston Fury Renegade
Really tho jump by the handheldmodz discord and post a video and lemme see if me or the bros and come up with something
The old school stickers use to make a difference sometimes tho if they were thick enough paper
i can't find the tool kit on amazon canada what screw driver do i need for the outside and for the ssd and thing to remove battery connector
The battery connector metal plate slides down. I’ve made a few other videos when I’ve done more and I show it a more in detail. The tool kit? The electric screwdriver? I’m not sure about Canada but you can check xcool website
So we can buy the one with the heatsink version?

So I'm guessing the RAM was moved to the other side of the motherboard and that might be why I"m hearing a few complaints about how warm the screen is now?
Screen is cooler than the og ally. They have a new air channel that sends air from one of the fans under the board and between the screen. If anyone is saying the screen is warmer than the og ally, I’d love to see some proof of that claim because it doesn’t align with my findings or asus claims.
@@cppctek that's good, i'd have to remember where i heard it from. I can't remember youtuber or on facebook after taking finals for the past week.
How’s that heat sink holding up? Is there enough room to add ANY size heat sink? Or does it have to be a certain shape/size?
Thicc or tall it fits them all. Anything 5mm or under fits and that’s like 99.9% of all pre heat sinked drives or most other heatsinks
Get one with heat sink if you can afford it. It’s wayyyy easier and they all fit. The 990 pro is the goat 🐐
@@cppctek would you recommend any sort of thermal padding on top of the heatsink to avoid any burning/melting of the wires ? I’m very bad with tech so I tend to over-concern

That one guys cable looked like it was torn and shorted out don’t let the haters or people will skill issue worry ya. Just grab that 990 pro with heatsink and it’s all you need. That one fits great. That or the 990 pro with heat sink are both good drives
@@cppctek ah, I would definitely wipe it and do a clean install via cloud recovery. I will do more hunting for 2280 to 2230 conversion. Thank you
The adapter is on the way now.

Can u get update on blue wire on battery
Waiting on a secondary battery so I don’t ruin the battery. There’s no going back once you mod the battery cable
@@cppctek One question, will Ally X battery fit Ally or any case cutting required?
@RexcorCoIE Ally x battery will fit but you need a spacer for the stock backplate and you have to rewire the battery cable and a little soldering is required. I’m waiting to see if an adapter gets made first before I show it off
New to 2280, now that we see space is there, any harm in using the preinstalled heatsinks on the 990 or SN850x? I bought both on prime day and dunno which to keep.

@@cppctek any preference between the two? Seems the early drive failures might be behind the 990. Small price difference between the two but not sure if performance negates that.

Neither are issues.
I really wish the battery cable wasn't centred rather to the right and away from the M2 heatsink - I'm worried having it pressed up to a 70c+ m2 (990 pro) heatsink will cause potential failures.

No I mentioned you don’t need a cloner, you just can use the cloud recovery option baked into the ally. Super simple. Connects to the web and can click a few simple buttons and boom your back running windows if you don’t have anything at all to clone it with. That’s called cloud recovery
@CPPC TEK Is it possible to clone a drive from the og ally and get it working on the x?
It’s possible, but Asus said in their official video a few weeks ago that they wouldn’t recommend it.

If you plugged in a brand new drive and never did the cloud recovery on said drive or using an external cloner that’s normal. Here is the link to the one with the heatsink (affiliate 🔗 )
I wonder if should get this 4tb ssd or the P3+ 4tb for my win 4
Get the p3 + not the slow p3
@@cppctek ok yeah that's what i was thinking!!
was this heatsink you used the 2mm one
I believe so but I’m switching to a much thicker one. I can go up to a 5mm
Will the heatsink that comes with the samsung drive fit?
Yep but they sell one with and without
@@cppctek thanks for the reply. Have the one with.
Please don't forget og ally. Please do some content 🙏
I got you bro 😎
So I installed the 4TB with heatsink, idk if it's the battery cord or whatever but now it's not turning on?
Did you plug in the power cord for a few mins to the oem power cord on the left side usb port ?
@cppctek yes now when it turn on it brought me to the bios utility ez mode I did save an exit but it keeps bringing me to it. What's the next step after that?
@cppctek it says system cannot find any bootable devices?
@Kingnabor well since you put a brand new drive in there, you have to get windows on there. Windows as you know is stored on the nvme drive. You’ll see cloud recovery option in the bios if you hit the y button and go to second tab I believe. Just follow the procedure for cloud recovery. The nvme drive is essentially the brains of a computer where the entire file system and everything is stored. So unless you used an external nvme cloner to clone 1:1 you’ll have to do cloud recovery to download the stock image of windows from ASUS cloud or you can use a usb with a windows installer
Hi bro ) any big change from Z1 extreme? How more fps in games?
It’s the same z1 extreme in the og rog ally
@@cppctek so not worthy to upgrade
@enzoreci i definitely didn’t say that at all 😂. The information has been public for a long , long time that it has the same exact cpu / apu. Did you see my first video on the Ally x ? You should watch that first because you should be aware of everything else first
The ally x should be faster by a few fps due to faster ram and emulators should run better now because there are more ram
But the battery of x. Does it fit?
I go over this in video
This or the kingston ssd ?
990 pro all day long 10/10
how did you get an ally x so early despite being banned on the ally forums!?
1: that’s an unofficial discord.
2: I was banned unfairly over false claims and a false tale told.
3: I told the mod to dm me after the false claim was made and he never would and never provided me any chance to state my case and he believed his friend over me
4: I was banned unfairly by a mod who already had a personal vendetta against me and was vocal about it
5: the mod started lying and spreading lies and rumors unfairly
6: I never did anything wrong
7: the claim was “I dented someone’s heat pipe” which is 100000% false! I never ever ever touched ANYONES device ever! The user argued and claimed using a thinner thermal pad would be better AGAINST MY ADVICE. He also used a rubber band over the 2230 heatsink adding even more issues and other problems.
8: I’ve had my videos up showing the nvme mods for nearly a year now and not a single person has come up and had issues like that !
9: the user had a skill issue and blamed it on me
10: modding is always at your own risk
⚠️
You can’t blame me for what someone else does. PERIOD!
@@cppctek thanks for clearing that up. how did you get it early though? also I heard the speakers are worse on the x compared to the original, is this true for your unit?
Speakers are better on paper but they sound pretty similar to me but they have deeper bass. I didn’t have any complaints about them at all for sure.
@imthatguy7394 also full video is up and I got over all the stuff and benchmarks on a few things too towards the end. I’ll try to have time stamps later th-cam.com/video/cFb2weuQqTo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SAseMOHKTUf1Qt3m
@@cppctek ay bet. you plan on doing any debloating vids for this one like you did the last? sure a program or two might have gotten updated in the last year
Yeah, the new battery is probably 4 cells.
Yes that’s correct. ✅ 80whr 4s1p, 4 cell li-ion

Wouldn't it be easy for you to ask for a review unit for free?
It depends but alot of manufacturers have limited number of review units available and it’s subject to approval as well and there could be a waitlist. Asus actually reached out to me after seeing I was buying one for my channel and they offered to send me one early that way I can go ahead and make content. 100% my own content too, they didn’t get any say so on the content or ask for approval which is always nice.

Cool!

Letting any nvme thermally throttle is like driving your car while the temperature needle is pegged out.
I’ve had deep conversations with drive manufacturers and even made a video on this many months ago. You do not want to let a drive thermally throttle.
3 hrs hurrrrrrry
All we fucking care about is battery life with games. All that other bullshit people with common sense should pick it up. For example, debunk the fucking theory that steam deck oled still has better battery than rog ally x on 5watt tdp games, but has more when playing 25 watts
well some of us care about the fps too you know

You might want to check out tiktok if TH-cam videos are too long. Theres some helpful shorts on there. I don’t like leaving out detail because I know how many questions people have and what people want to know and I can’t make 1000 videos to answer 1000 questions. I’d rather answer everyone’s questions in one run and pre answer ones I know people will have. You should see how long other big tech content creators are. The ones that do the best take the time like this to make sure everyone has their questions solved and answered.
