This is one of the best interviews of Tim Ferris I have ever seen. I've been following Tim and his work for a long time and never got to know so much about him as I did in this interview. Rich is an outstanding interviewer. He brings a presence and listening to the space that allows Tim to be himself and open up on some sensitive topics. Looking forward to seeing more interviews like this from Rich.
Both of these role models have the unique gift of being excellent listeners. They never rush, never interrupt one another. A great conversation. Great job guys.
“View emotions as weakness” “armor to keep things out and keep a lot in I listened in quiet dark early morning hours for my own reflection on my own life So grateful to have terms to label some behavior and emotions I didn’t know how but felt the same Thanks!
1:11:11"I don't have a high degree of confidence in willpower or discipline. I have a high degree of confidence in system, accountability, and loss aversion, that create the illusion of discipline and willpower"
I only follow 3 podcasters. Rich Roll, Tim Ferris and Gary V. That's it. And to see two of them on the same podcast... and at this level... quality, intimacy, expression of of the soul... this is amazing. I cannot even find the words to express how amazing this is. What I can say that this is the third time I see this podcast. Not just listen... actually see. Thank you So MUCH for doing this, Rich and Tim.
So good! The title of this pod case is spot on. I have noticed Tim’s evolution. It’s beautiful. I am glad he is speaking about it. It makes him more like-able and human. “If this was easy, how would it look like” is transforming my life. Seriously simple and profound. Thank you, Tim and Rich 🙏💕
"I don't have a high degree of confidence in willpower or discipline. I have a high degree of confidence in Systems, Accountability & Loss Aversion, which creates the illusion of discipline." - Tim // And yes, creating Better Incentives and Accountability for oneself helps so much. Valuable af Convo - Loving it.
Had to pick this up again this morning.. I stayed up so late watching haha which is commendable because I Have the attention span of a blue Jay. Ooooh shiny object. Tim is amazing, just his outlook on life has inspired me to begin writing again after gosh about 10 years of having no motivation to do so.. At the end when you were talking about doing something just to prove you can, I have got to say this is a valuable gem of advice. Ive been a bookworm a why introvert and am a former world of warcraft addict and guildmaster (former master now that I stopped playing of the illuminaughty guild hehe) and I never took any risks without having financial stability to back it up. Never moved or took trips unless I knew it was financed and all the details ironed out so I would have stability anf less anxiousness. Well in 2015 when I was told by family to either do what they told me to or to kick rocks and get out of their house.. I chose for the first time something that was in direct opposition to EVERYTHING my anxious mind felt was safe. This formeroh self loathing, low in self esteem, anti-social book worm and video game addict suddenly overnight found herself homeless in one of the most violent cities in California. I thought here's the greatest social experiment you will ever be able to conduct, and whats more is it's an experience that will change the very way you interact with reality. It will be priceless. Do it. There I was standing on a levee looking at an island where some of the rougher, even scary to me at the time, people had made this small commune. So then I remember saying to myself.. let's go where you've got no path... Ashley you can and will leave a trail. (btw thanks maritime admiralty laws for the sanctuary of the islands and tidelands) I learned that even if the world ended tomorrow, I can navigate encounters with addicts, murderers, convicts bikers or gang members, and in being genuine (Maybe a lil too naive and a little too imaginative) discover that I can survive with the toughest of them. Hundred pound me would square up to big scary motherfuckers and still look them in the eye and ask them "why?" A question most guys don't want to have to answer to someone else. I learned that Society can see me starving with a "just hungry" sign they can judge me and post pictures making fun of me on their fb pages... And I finally learned I didn't have to take anyone else or their opinions personally. Nothing others do is because of you. Ive forgiven those who wouldn't even dream of apologizing or admitting fault. Ive learned you can get the shit beat out of you, and you can forgive and get back up. Take a chance, don't judge and have faith it'll work out and if it doesn't, the failure of the experience will enrich you far beyond any success would Have... Grow explore and be openminded and try not to be a dick because there is no Redeeming time because the days are evil, unless you use the time you Have wisely. Choosing homelessness for 1 year taught me how precious our time is, and how much society takes everything for granted. Don't judge the dude on meth with a cart behind his bike looking for recycling in your garbage can.. Until you've experienced the utter exhaustion of carrying stolen gallons of water to your tent. My fiance wpuld spent a good portion of 29 degree winter nights ceaselessly stoking our fire so he could steel railroad ties to red hot so he could bring them into the tent and keep us warm. The amount of energy it takes to cook, when you have no fancy camping gear and water that takes an hour and several hundred calories burned to get from point A to point B. When you have nothing, every facet of THE ART OF LIVING becomes more meaningful than you would ever imagine. It will change the foundation upon which you view what is of value in this existence. My book which I've started writing (thanks to all the inspiration from Tim and several others to motivate and begin) is I hope really going to change how society views itself from the eyes of someone at the mercy of the human kindness of strangers and how my life became more meaningful once I decided to live it with NOTHING but willpower and hope.
AMAZING episode! I used to listen to Tim's podcast but found it lacking and annoying after awhile. Now, having listened to this and then watching most of it again, I am a huge fan! There are so many inspirational phrases and concepts to sit with, thank you! And once again, Rich, thank you for your compassionate interest in others. Your curiosity is refreshing in an interviewer...
My 2 fav podcaster on my fav podcast. What a blessing !!! I hope you guys keep having the plant powered retreats, I really plan on becoming a regular eventually, thanks for everything
I'm just in the first half of this podcast, but hats off! Absolutely awesome that you open up so much and share your emotions with us Tim! Really strong from you, as I wondered for a long time, why you kept that shell on...
These two very thoughtful men, bite down down both hard and gently on what it is to walk this journey of life. What is interesting is not that there are answers here, but that persistent, intentional, and alert inquiry, with a dash of intelligence, is what this walk is about. There may or may not be a mountain peak to be reached, but playing the game well, then thinking hard and playing it again and then again, with a splinter more skill over time is enough. Thank you both for a splendid podcast!
This episode coming out is wicked. litterally the day before i said to myself that i wished these two would do a podcast. two of my favorite people in the podcast game. Thanks Rich and Tim!
Such a good interview, Rich!! Tim really opened up. You were spot on with your saying you never really felt like you know WHO Tim was. As a side note: his laugh is contagious!
It's interesting how every next generation goes through their healing phase earlier and earlier in life. Older generations get hit in their 60s and 50s typically prompted by health issues or divorce, Tim's is happening is in his 40s, my own journey started mid 20s with body detoxes that led to consciousness elevation, which in turn brought the layers of trauma up into the light and got a good surge from heartbreak, just to make sure there was no backing out of the growth that needed to happen. At this rate, next generations will first of all be far less traumatised, if we all keep doing the work on ourselves before having kids, so that we don't just transfer our unresolved issues onto our offspring (which still gives me shivers of resentment when I think about it) and secondly, they might as well get their healing phase in their teens and be complete healthy mindful woke people by the time they are in their 20s. That will make a society I would much rather live in. Go us!
Really a great interview and discussion..I am newly subscribed to your channel RIch and so far very good...this interview was really great as Tim really seemed to open up and I really felt for what he had gone thru in his life..the best part is he found love for himself as that makes all the difference in the world! I was so happy to hear the story of how he found it..with lots of interesting anecdotes here and there and heartfelt discussion this has been my favorite episode..great work..keep it up. Thank you and Namaste
Wow, this was a really powerful conversation! Tim has been one of the greatest digital influences in my life but I agree with Rich that I never felt I knew who he was. It's amazing to see that even people who make everything look easy still struggle with the human condition. Mad props and
I told myself I would only be on a treadmill / moving / hiking just doing something every time I listen to you rich. But 2:42 hours!!!! Hahaha love it! thanks for the motivation to keep moving. Love you, and your book. Keep up the great pods (: ❤️❤️❤️ love ALL of them
Did anyone else pause the video when they started talking about procrastination and go do what it was they had intended for the day? Loving the talk so far, but I'll be back to watch the rest later. ✌
Self loathing and harsh treating self, no self love and acceptance: try coping mechanism to silence my inner voice Inner voice is powerful! Suppressed emotions can be detrimental when not addressed
while listening to this, i absentmindedly picked up the book Radical Acceptance from my roommate's living room library and set it aside to read later, a few minutes before Tim mentioned it! now i'm basically obligated to read the book
It's funny how things always connect through universal energy. As I was writing affirmation in my journal, Tim mentioned it 1:36:00 and I went like whoa whoa whoa.
I burst into laughter hearing Tim's account of the 10 day "retreat." I had heard his podcast with Sharon Salzberg and I really wanted to reach out and warn Tim that it may not be all it's cracked up to be, but he needed to find that out for himself. Going into retreat with expectations of any kind is a ticket to disappointment. I'm very mindful of encouraging people to go on retreat now and I also choose my descriptive words carefully, so people don't inherit expectations. It really is torture for some of us and yet for others it's pure ecstasy and who's too say where any one person will fall on that spectrum? I suspected Tim would lean more toward the more challenging experience. I think he said 15% of people have a horrifying time, but I'm not sure if that was a guess, or actual research? I found my 10 day meditation "retreat" to be 85% torture & I was having massive aversions to all the well-meaning people who said, 'Yeah! Go, it'll be blissful and amazing and (add desirable side-effect here).' For some of us it's torture, valuable insights as Tim said, but torture. It took about 5 years before I was willing to go back and try a multi day silent meditation again. Not speaking for 10 days is the easy part. I would hesitate to recommend a 10 day silent retreat to anyone, but equally I wouldn't discourage anyone who felt called to partake. At the very least, it's a learning curve and a life experience. Thanks for this podcast Rich. It's very endearing to hear Tim open up.
As far Tim wondering if there was some sort of "grey scale" for eating to help with dieting.... I read that if you put a blue light bulb in your refrigerator you will eat less. Blue is the least appetizing color and shuts off hunger.
Hi Tim, ¼ to 1/5 of the entrepreneur set has been stated to be dyslexic. Please make your recent books available in audio, 20-25% of your “readers” are interested! Chris
It still exists: Trilogy. But it is not as it was. After a rocky late 2000-early 2001, they laid off a lot of staff: Surviving severance - Austin Business Journal. There were more layoffs in the years that followed, and the company changed dramatically into a more professional organization with more focus. As another answer notes, a number of Austin startups have Trilogy roots (Trilogy and the Extraordinary Power of a Great Network - SiliconHills). During the good times it was incredibly fun.
Fun fact: not only are u very much like myself and my fiance, but you two look so much alike, and each one of you was born with a collapsed lung. As always your journey is aiding me in my own and I thank thee for leaving trail markers as you go for the rest of us. You are super remarkable Tim!
From what I understand, it might be Jocko Willink that got this side out of him. Tim's being opening up recently and the first time I had any notion of this was Jocko in his lastest episode with Joe Rogan saying his podcast was dark and he invited Tim on to talk about his dark side (suicide attempt when he was younger). Pretty interesting because Jocko isn't an intellectual (not a bad thing, neither is Gary Vee)
Hey Guys, is there a podcast from RichRoll where the main topic is spirituallity? You can feel he got a very deep touch with it, would be glad to hear! :) Thanks
Hey rich did you intentionally create the angles of filming so that time was in a a shade of murky grey to represent darkness whilst it seems you are flourishing and light showcasing your current stage in life. Just a thought . .
yes,I concur, as I pour my 4th glass of wine, and I ponder on what is Infinite divided by finite? is it thinking and analysis? why is something divided by zero undefined?...how can this be?.
This is one of the best interviews of Tim Ferris I have ever seen. I've been following Tim and his work for a long time and never got to know so much about him as I did in this interview. Looking forward to seeing more interviews like this from Rich.
Agreed, I've followed Tim for 6 years, and it's awesome to see him growing so much. Fun to kind of grow along side him in this virtual way.
So good
I can honestly say I have never had to pause a TH-cam video so many times to record wisdom. Epic. Inspiring.
We love you Tim! Everyone please remember it only takes a little love or listening to people in your life!
Both of these role models have the unique gift of being excellent listeners. They never rush, never interrupt one another. A great conversation. Great job guys.
“View emotions as weakness” “armor to keep things out and keep a lot in

we are so blessed to have these type of broadcasts, thank you TH-cam
seriously right! yet so many people waste it watching pointless content
1:11:11"I don't have a high degree of confidence in willpower or discipline. I have a high degree of confidence in system, accountability, and loss aversion, that create the illusion of discipline and willpower"
Weh
I normally listen to your podcasts on Overcast but it's so much better being able to watch you guys on TH-cam. Thanks for another great episode!
Wow, what a shift Tim. That was a totally different Tim than who he is right now. Congrats on the inner work.
I only follow 3 podcasters. Rich Roll, Tim Ferris and Gary V. That's it. Then you're gonna love the Gary V. podcast with Tim Ferris on it that released recently.
You are right, I already watch it and it was good. But it seems that here I saw a more "raw" deep expression of Tim.
Me too! Those exact three.
He's evolving into Vladimir Lenin
Huh, can't imagine how mind numbing a mediocre interview must be?
YES, dogs will crack your heart open and fill it with more LOVE than you could possibly image♡

What a beautiful exchange amongst two masters in the art of conversation. Will watch again. Thanks to both of you!

Thank you so much for all your kindness and knowledge
Wow- the portion on the Vipassana retreat really made me look at Tim in a different way. Much love to both of you.
The best interview with Tim I've heard! Thank you both!

even listening to Tim makes me more productive

If I may ask, how have you gone about healing yourself?
Or, we could do what we need to do for ourselves and not have kids at all. That works fine.
Really a great interview and discussion..I am newly subscribed to your channel RIch and so far very good...this interview was really great as Tim really seemed to open up and I really felt for what he had gone thru in his life..the best part is he found love for himself as that makes all the difference in the world! Really enjoy this kind of episode of truthful soulful deep introspection!!!

Awesome interview! Learned so much. Thanks so much for being so candid. Love you both.
To take care of others you got to take care of yourself FIRST because ultimately you shortchange yourself to help others
This was great! Thank you Rich! Maybe Tim was ready to be revealed, but surely you have the way to unlock people! Keep up the GREAT job!
This podcast is epic. Two incredible... impactful humans.
The Time Ferris Podcast with Rich Roll on it is good also. The have a great chemistry and flow.
My 2 favourite podcasts in 1! It's like a dream that becomes true! Thanks guys!
Great chat guys. I am a huge fan of both you. Thanks for all you do for your fans
Just awesome! Thank you to two of my favorite guys out there on the internet doing truly cool stuff that makes a difference for people.
Did anyone else pause the video when they started talking about procrastination and go do what it was they had intended for the day? Loving the talk so far, but I'll be back to watch the rest later. ✌
This blocking off emotions not only is not sustainable but also not serving me
Well said
Wonder that’s why talking to a therapist really helps
Self loathing and harsh treating self, no self love and acceptance: try coping mechanism to silence my inner voice
Inner voice is powerful! Suppressed emotions can be detrimental when not addressed
This was wonderful. Thank you both.
First time I have seen Tim speak this openly about his path and feelings, thanks for the honesty and authenticity to both of you!
Thank you so much. I did the 10 day once and am still very grateful. And guess what? I can be so wrong about some things. Never so glad to be wrong.
One of the best you've done. Good job, Rich.
I'd never heard of Tim Ferris, but I'm really enjoying it so far..
Amazing dialogue. It is heart warming to get to know the hu-man Tim. Didn’t know I was even interested
Self love is not an indulgence is a prerequisite!
I just want to hug him
while listening to this, i absentmindedly picked up the book Radical Acceptance from my roommate's living room library and set it aside to read later, a few minutes before Tim mentioned it! now i'm basically obligated to read the book
Lars Larson did you read it? :-)
It's funny how things always connect through universal energy. As I was writing affirmation in my journal, Tim mentioned it 1:36:00 and I went like whoa whoa whoa.
I've never been at all impressed by him...until now. Hang tough Tim. Terry was amazing.
I haven’t even watched this yet I’m so excited ! Just know it will be great
First rich interview I've watched and I assure it wont be the last. Great work.
This is heartbreaking to listen to after he publicly discussed the abuse he endured as a child. Ugh like a punch to the gut.
Excellent stuff! Thank you Tim for everything you do to help people
I really liked this raw conversation
Not all who wander are lost is from Tolkien. Part of a poem written about Aragorn.
I burst into laughter hearing Tim's account of the 10 day "retreat." I suspected Tim would lean more toward the more challenging experience.
Priceless.
As far Tim wondering if there was some sort of "grey scale" for eating to help with dieting.... I read that if you put a blue light bulb in your refrigerator you will eat less. Blue is the least appetizing color and shuts off hunger.
Wow - didn't expect that - fascinating! Great Pod cast
2 great dudes talking together, great vlog !!!
Was great, thanks for doing this!
two of my fave podcasters on one podcast, xmas came early!
26:27
Did he say that he has suffered from Bipolar for decades, or someone else? Hard to hear.
This was awesome.
Best podcast I've ever listened to/seen!
Hi Tim,
¼ to 1/5 of the entrepreneur set has been stated to be dyslexic.
Please make your recent books available in audio, 20-25% of your “readers” are interested!
Chris
Might have written that before listening....
I would too like this.
Thank you.
Thank you guys so much for this. Got a lot out of it.
They say tim's heart grew 3 times that day.
Fantastic as always! When do we get to hear you interview Mic The Vegan?
amazing interview, thank you both!!!

The 4 hour chef, the 4 hour body, the 4 hour work week and I was hoping for the 4 hour podcast. Almost.
Fun fact: not only are u very much like myself and my fiance, but you two look so much alike, and each one of you was born with a collapsed lung. As always your journey is aiding me in my own and I thank thee for leaving trail markers as you go for the rest of us. You are super remarkable Tim!
That was awesome. Almost three hours well spent for me)
thank you for making it happen, great podcast
This was some legendary stuff.
Great podcast, I was just too distracted asking myself how one can look as similar to Vladimir Lenin as Tim does here haha!
Tim Ferriss = Test It
The fears
The assumptions
The stories
The motivations
Great conversation, Rich!
💥👊🏻💥

Hey Guys, is there a podcast from RichRoll where the main topic is spirituallity? You can feel he got a very deep touch with it, would be glad to hear! :) Thanks
Great to watch the human evolution we all go through, thanks for the inspiration
Loving the videos, keep them up. Tim is such an experimenter.. I wonder if he ever tried a whole-food-plant-based diet as an experiment?
Hey rich did you intentionally create the angles of filming so that time was in a a shade of murky grey to represent darkness whilst it seems you are flourishing and light showcasing your current stage in life. Just a thought . .
Great Podcast.
I don't understand how Rich doesn't have more subs..
eeeeek i'm so excited for this!
