Love this era of cars, pretty much 1998-2008 was an awesome era. For sure the Aero got over the top by 2008 but the cars looked amazing throughout this time period.

Great drive by Hakkinen, clearly, but was this Irvine's best drive? I think there was a podium at Monaco in a Jaguar, and 2nd behind Villeneuve in '97 at Argentina as his other two most memorable results. Once more to Hakkinen. Lovely move at turn one to pass Frentzen at 2:16. Most would go off track, or today, onto tarmac.
Coulthard nearly destroyed Mika's dreams for second title that year. Later in Belgium, Mika failed in the start and David or the team did nothing to help Mika.
I was there in 99, sat at turn 1, Mika was unreal on the day! Being plum last on lap 2, he overtook a car on almost every single lap because of others pit strategies; one of the best come back drives seen!
E.Irvine was so.underrated at the time , and the lack Ferrari didn't deliver equal car as.Schumacher in favor to the german ,meant that the Irish driver couldn't count for the championship of 1999. If Ferrari would have supported Irvine with technical updates he would of won the championship, it was hes last year of contract and last chance to a world championship!

Races were rarely exciting. I've tried watching seasons from that era and it's so boring most of the time. There was barely any action and drivers were passing each other in the pits instead of fighting on track. Apart from Hakkinen fighting through the field, even this race had nothing special... i really don't know how everyone thinks those times were so good...

I see some people complaining here about KERS and DRS "they didn't need that in 1999 to make the show" as they say. But look at the WEC championship, it has been tremendously interesting for the last 6-7 years. Despite the fact that the LMP1 cars are filled of new and totally different technologies in each team (well, no DRS) and it still provides some incredibly awesome races - except Le Mans this year in my opinion -. I think we shouldn't repel technology as long as it brings more interesting races. PS : FIA please BRING BACK THOSE V12-V10 or even V8 sounds ! :D anyway, that's just my point of view of this mess :)

This was the only race Eddie Irvine ever won truly on merit, barring Hakkinen’s spin. He (Irvine) was very quick, managed his tyres well, and didn’t put a foot wrong.
Funny that is literally the first time a team managed to overturn their disqualifications on appeal. Jordan would do it subsequently but that was due to an administration error
I wish we were able to watch the older races in upscaled HD, whether it be 720 or 1080p or at least proper DVD resolution. Unforunately the only full races from these era with ITV commentary are of a poor quality and have little pre-race build up or the qualifying rounds posted too. But, at laest someone was able to record the full races and post them for us to watch until FOM sorts itself out. Really missing the mark here.
Such a shame that they are not racing around Germany this year, I'd love to see a highlights video of the 2000 race when Barichello took his first win!

In 1999 Ferrari was better than McLaren which was also the case in 2000 where McLaren became also unreliable. 2001 Ferrari dominated with their car.
Hakkinen is just incredible. He's the reason I love Formula 1 today.

This was the only race Eddie Irvine ever won truly on merit, barring Hakkinen’s spin. He (Irvine) was very quick, managed his tyres well, and didn’t put a foot wrong.

With curent point system Irvine would have been champion at the malaisian GP
with current technical regulations both Ferraris would have stayed disqualified from the malaysian GP....
Funny that is literally the first time a team managed to overturn their disqualifications on appeal. Jordan would do it subsequently but that was due to an administration error

Its been 25 years since Hakkinen made a valiant comeback at Red Bull Ring.
I wish we were able to watch the older races in upscaled HD, whether it be 720 or 1080p or at least proper DVD resolution. Unforunately the only full races from these era with ITV commentary are of a poor quality and have little pre-race build up or the qualifying rounds posted too. But, at laest someone was able to record the full races and post them for us to watch until FOM sorts itself out. Really missing the mark here.
