What? Video quality hasn't improved since 2015, we're still mostly using 1080p and 4k both of which were widespread when this video came out, so what's surprising? lol
If you dont own a 3ds, get the new XL. If you already own an original 3ds XL, there's no need to upgrade unless you want the better processor/ram and cstick nub.
Also the exclusive games for the new 3ds
From what I heard theres at most a very limited number that require it - Its like the N64 in that regard, With the RAM expansion there was only 2 games that was under requirement for it. And 1 game only had about 30% of the content availible without the expansion pack (4mb RAM) - edit - I actually treat it as 4 games for the system.
I am including StarCraft 64, which requires it to go for multiplayer, and the games expansion content of brood war (3 campaigns, new units etc.) If we call it 3 because of perfect dark. We should include a game that has a rough percentile of 50% being unavailable as well.

Thanks I came here just for that. I was wondering if Pokemon Sun and Moon were gonna make any difference. But since the gameplay is slower, with turn based battles, I guess I shouldn't worry too much.

Yeah, you should. If you're broke you should try getting a 3ds for around $50 or a 3ds XL just to see if you like it. But if you're made of money just get the New 3ds, it's pretty much the same except better.

I bought a New 3DS XL (Galaxy Design), but kept my old 3DS to give to my friend who has never had a hand held. My only problem is that the New 3DS XL doesn't come with a charger, so I have to use my old one, and go digging around my house to find my spare charger, or just buy a new one. The main reason I upgraded was because I've had that 3DS ever since the 3DS came out, and it has lately been starting to show with it taking forever to launch games and playing Pokémon in 3D.
That was nice of you. You could of maybe traded it in to save money but you gave it to your friend. Nice.

The only feature that makes me consider the new one, is the wider range of 3D. I have a had a few instances where when playing, if I shift even the slightest to the left or right the 3D becomes blurred and very hard to see. Do you guys think it is worth it to upgrade for that?

@@Thunderbolt5827 i presume "new Super Mario 2" is New Super Mario Bros. 2, "Mario cart 7" is Mario Kart 7 and "Zelda game OoT" is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. I think instead of "3D World" he means Super Mario 3D Land
I used to have the New 3DS XL and I absolutely loved it. Unfortunately I sold it to get a Switch, but at least now I bought my friend’s 2DS XL off of him.
I ordered a regular xl actually recently, and honestly i prefer the xls over any other 3ds/ 2ds. Both of them look pretty great. If they werent absolutely expensive right now i probably wouldve gone for a new 3ds xl but it really doesnt matter all that much
I do probably prefer where the start and select is on the new one though, especially since thats how it was on the regular 2ds too
You just can't play some of the new xl exclusives like minecraft but other then that it's solid enough I just got a new xl because work money and I enjoy it

I own a New 3DS XL, and I have to say it works pretty spectacularly. The 3D is comfortable and the c-stick actually gets used a lot in games such as Smash Bros and Majora's Mask. However, the smaller (and somewhat thicker at least the feeling) stylus is somewhat uncomfortable to use, but that isn't major. What is major is that the system does not come with an AC adapter, a charger, so keep that in mind. This a great improvement of the old 3DS, and if you're like me and didn't have the money around that time and didn't feel like it was worth it for crappy 3D (I ended up getting a 2DS), then get this system because it is fantastic. Be wary though, if you have problems with smudges then the complete glossy outside will drive you insane XD. Nonetheless, it is a beautiful system that was completely worth the money in my perspective.
8 years later. You were lucky to buy this system new at retail price. ;-;
@@tralpha9660 8 years later and I still have it! And it still works great! The little nub to control the camera is absolutely torn to shreds but that can be replaced. I thank my younger self for taking care of my electronics.

Another thing regarding the new 3ds xl's screen is that it has a much better contrast ratio (much darker blacks). The old 3ds xl looks a bit washed out compared to the new screen.

most important thing for the new 3DS that its 100% worth the money is the camera adjustment for the 3D visuals of the game.
i've tried the simple 3ds xl and my eyes were on fire with the 3D mode on.
I bought the Nintendo 3DS LL this month, and I didn't like the 3D funtion...the quality is not good....
So, I'll play in 2D。
The major problem I have with the NN3DSXL is that the game cartridge and stylus are at the bottom, instead of the stylus on the side and game cartridge at the top.

Don't forget about the wireless file transfer feature of the new model! You can wirelessly transfer files on and off the device like it was a normal network or USB drive

Since the New Nintendo 3DS regular is so limited and so hard to find to this day, I just bought the modified New Nintendo 3DS XL Galaxy Edition 64GB for just $160. Well worth the price for I can hold 40 3DS game, 140GBA games and 700 SNES games. :D

The main problem that I have is that there will be no "normal size" 3DS in North America, so as a result, I'd have to get a more expensive, less customizable, larger version that I really do not want and have no need for.

One thing that I like although quite simple and maybe not a big deal for most is that the stylus slot was added to the front, even if it is to the right a tad. As a left hander I pull my stylus out with my right hand and switch it to my left, this seems a tad better to that respect.

The only thing I don't like about the new 3ds xl is how everything is on the bottom. It just gives the 3ds a higher chance of accidentally hitting the power button or the cartridge being pressed.

Damn. Just three days ago I got the NES gamestop edition. Now this one is coming out. I think ill just keep my 3DS XL and buy this one if it has to come down to it. I will not sell my 3DS cause I sold my NES GBA SP back in the day and I regret it.
If you still have the receipt, most stores let you return the product within a week, even if there is nothing wrong with it,

you could also transfer your sd and account data to the new 3ds xl and sell the old one on ebay. keep in mind that you have transfer your data BEFORE setting up your NNID on the new 3ds!
afsinreverie Make sure to do it fast. I don't know about gamestop, but with retailers such as best buy, you can return within a week as long as you have the box and reciept. You can return within a month if there are any problems, and sometimes they are very lenient with what you would consider a problem. They accepted my almost a month old ps4 with 2 games simply because I wanted to wait until more games came out.
Just in case you couldn't get a refund, try asking about the trade in program. EBgames(GS Canada) is offering people 80 bucks for the regular 3ds and 100 bucks for the XL if you trade it towards the New XL.
Damn, got the new 3DS XL recently (what can I say, I like my handhelds abandoned by their maker, looking at you PS VIta and it's awesome community) and finding accessories for it is quite nightmarish, needed to confirm that the screen size is the same for protectors so here I am on a 6 years old video!

I got mine in 2012 and I want an upgrade. Mine has so many scratches its unbelievable because I got it when I was 8 or something
Reasons why I am proud to own a original 3DS XL:
1. It has easier access to a regular size SD card.
2. You can easily toggle WiFi on/off with the slider on the right.
3. It uses regular SD cards instead of micro-SD so it will be harder to lose.
4. I love the red color of my 3DS XL
5. You can insert the game card at the top, hiding it in a perfect fit instead of the bottom exposing a centimeter of the card.
6. It has bigger triggers that fits in the fingers.
Downsides and reasons why I could but won’t get a new 3DS:
1. You can customize the faceplate.
2. It has up-to-date software unlike original 3DS.
3. It has all-new shoulder buttons.

I would rather have the OG 3DS by it is cheaper and basically the same and even though the 3D doesn’t have face tracker, I would never use the 3D anyways

This is a really accurate and good review. Although in the boot-up test my 3ds xl boots up faster than your 3ds xl. So I found that a little inaccurate.

I like the click feeling on my original 3ds xl and it's good to know the new ones buttons click. Idk if I'll be using the c stick much, but if they release a good enough game that utilizes it well enough I will start to use it. When I got my first Ds which was a Ds lite a really long time ago I used it for a while then lost it. One I found it and used it for a while it broke and I was Ds-less for a while ☹️. Then I went to the Nintendo store in NYC and played around with the old 3ds xl and ended up getting that a few years ago, broke it, got a new one and my brother whacked it out of my hand and the top screen almost fell of completely, the Ds still worked for a little while then the top screen stopped working. Bottom screen still works and audio is still fine, but I'm thinking about getting a new 3ds xl. This is gonna be a long ass comment. xD

How much is the new 3ds xl? (I live in the US)
Is the charger the same as the old xl?
How can I transfer all of my games that I downloaded from the eShop from the old xl to the new if I end up buying one?
My Downloaded games are:
Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2 Six Golden Coins, Super Mario Land 3 Wario Land, Wario Land 3, Game and Watch Gallery 2, The Legend Of Zelda Four Swords, The Legend Of Zelda Oracle Of Seasons, The Legend Of Zelda A Link Between Worlds, Kirby's Dream Land 2, Mega Man (idk which one...), VVVVVV, Crashmo, BattleMiner, Petit Computer, Photo Dojo, and Undead Storm.
If anyone can answer I would really appreciate it, I really want to find out how to transfer my games as the first 3ds I broke had most of these games and I lost all of them when it broke, and I had to buy them all over again, and I don't want that to happen again. Again, any answers will help.
I don't even have the 3DS XL just the old 3DS from 2011. May be getting New 3DS XL for my birthday. Excited for new size.

Nah, go for the new one, especially if you didn't buy a regular 3DS XL, the new model will have some exclusive games and it also has the c-stick.The only thing i don't like is the way it takes the SD card but that's so minor i don't even care.
New one is better in every way, except the price save up and buy that.
Go for the new one, the price will be the same and you will get some improved hardware and some exclusives (probably all of them will be ports)
New one. Definitely new one. I have a 1.5 year old regular 3DS and I already pre-ordered my new XL. The face tracking 3D basically make the device 100 times better. Not to mention you will get the C-stick and two extra shoulder buttons. Did I mention the built in NFC? Furthermore, there will be exclusive games for the New 3DS as well.
Somehow I didn’t know New 3ds xl was a thing. I’ve had an original version practically since it came out, and I just bought one on eBay as a Christmas gift for someone, and I was very confused because it looked different from mine. I was worried I bought a bootleg or something, thanks for easing my mind for me lol

A higher pixel density screen would increase the price too much, not to mention you need a much better gpu to drive it.

VoltageLuxray with shitty battery lifespan though and no 3d :c also, it won't be able to run ds games. even phones that are worth 6 times that still can't properly run DS games .-. but that's neither here nor there..

i know its petty but i wish the buttons were colored.. im not a native nintendo gamer i play xbox and pc but ive a 3ds for about a year and sometimes when button prompts come up i get confused since im so used to other lay outs.. this is fine since normally i can just look down but i game alot in dark/dim areas and colored buttons or buttons with some form of glow in the dark material would be brilliant... i know some of the new models have them but is it a region thing? like EU got the colors or something or is it special edition consoles.
For years I had a Yoshi-themed 3ds XL and when they started selling the new version I didn't want it. Then I got it anyways for my birthday, transferd my data and then loved it more than my old one.

SuperYtc1 Everyone can make their own decisions on what to buy...besides, it's not like he bought every model up until now. He's upgrading to the latest recently released(at least here in the U.S.) model. And you talk like they release a slightly changed version within a few months and try to make money off of it when what I've seen is 3 distinct iterations of the same model aside from the new3DSXL. They're not forcing anyone to buy their "latest" model.

They are the same on both New 3DS now. Both have the same speakers as the original 3DS I believe, which, oddly enough, were better than the old XL's.

Got myself a circle pad pro back in December, which also has its own set of extra triggers plus it's far more comfortable to hold - it's far more bulkier though, but I love that feeling.
Unless you don't have a 3DS yet, I personally don't think the new 3DS is a worthwhile investment (for now at least).

I'm gonna sound weird here but I had the new version but didn't like it. I went back to my old one and sold the new one. Personally I prefer the old design. It wasn't that there was anything wrong with the newer one, far from it. I think it's much improved, especially in terms of the 3D. I don't use the 3D much anyway I have it set pretty low as it's always been a headache trigger for me. But it was the design overall that made me go back. The slot and buttons all moving I didn't like as I find it hard adjusting to change. I have no use for the C stick as I only really play Pokemon. Unless a new 3ds XL exclusive Pokemon game happens, then I'll stick to my old one :) But the new one is great, found it was a little faster loading up games etc, 3D like I said, is much better. Not perfect, but much improved.
