I love AN-158
usually you think of antonov as old, scary russian cans but I was genuinely impressed with this plane
Not popular but honestly from my humble opinion, the design of the an 158 makes the aircraft looks very beautiful. And if there was a passenger version of the An 178, it would have been the most beautiful airplane for me.
There are actually six of them (not five) being operated by Cubana. Beautiful aircraft. That engine is one of the few modern turbofans with absolutely no input from the west. You have to give Ukraine credit - they make superior aviation products. Lovely video.

Engine noise is soo quiet.. Pretty smooth sound IMO..
These new An-158s are really great planes! A bit smaller than standard passenger planes and cheaper to operate but packed with ultra modern tech. It's great that you can optionally use the stairs to board & depart instead of a connection, that should allow it to land at smaller air ports. All budget airlines should pick up this plane to make discount tickets more profitable imo.
I like the unique look of Antonovs. It's almost like the rest of the plane is hanging from the wings.
Can you give some feedback, how was the feeling during the flight? Are the engines very noisy? Of course, in comparison with modern Boeing and Airbus.
I'm from Ukraine, but never had a chance to flight on an148 or an158.

Trying to think, when was the last time I had a paper boarding pass, handwritten, with a little sticker showing my seat. Probably 1979 or so.
Looks like a nice aircraft. As an aviation enthusiast though, I wish that their Tu-154 and Il-62 were still in use. Too bad that Cubana seems to have stopped flying them.

1) Crazy taxi run. Nearly 4 mins at a pretty high rate of speed. 2) I personally would've expected a shorter take-off roll (after he finally applied full throttle) given the full leading-edge slats and flaps. 3) thanks for the "everybody pees on the seat" shot...

Not bad
As much as I like our American jets, I believe this and the Super Jet 100 could have sold well in the US if not for politics and the availability of parts and service issues. This would have been great on smaller unimproved airports and airstrips in the US. I always enjoyed flying on the BAE 146 with PSA in California in the 80s.

This is what the Avro RJ was supposed to be!!! Sadly the Avro design team at the last moment changed the design to a "standard" low wing slung under pod engine layout. It ruined the whole ethos of what the 146 was - a short/medium range special performance type that could land in narrow confined and difficult to get to airports. It wasted time that Avro didn't have and sadly they were forced to set out with just an upgrade of the 146...The reaction by potential customers was one of total dismay...They were look forward to the twin jet. Antonov picked up the design grab in the aftermath of Avro division being wound up along with a couple of other minor players.
So cool you have to put on Siberian outdoor clothes to survive the experience without hypothermia.

It is because of landing gear from the military aviation (capable to land on grass) and exceptionally rigid fuselage. Not the lightest one, but a heavy duty bird.

Michel Tangy no this aircraft is further development of An-70.. Got nothing in common with bea 146. 146 use fowler flap, this use double slotted flaps configuration.
Antonov is Ukranian-Russian. After USSR broke up the company became a joint stock, sort of Airbus! So don't bullshit here! And after Poroshenko's sanctions Antonov has declared bankrupt!!! And for all the world Ukraine is Russia same as Taiwan is China! Tell me ten differences between a Moscow born Russian and Kiev born Russian?!
And try explanining Cubans Ukraine is not Russia. You Poroshenkos brainwashed puddles
