In this beginner friendly Jazz Blues Guitar Lesson I'll show the basics about the Jazz Blues Chord Progression in Bb.
Jazz Blues in Bb is one of the most played progressions in jazz. It's absolutely necessary to know the Jazz Blues guitar chords and comping for it!
I made this Easy Jazz Blues Guitar lesson for beginners of jazz. I'll teach you all the Jazz Blues guitar chords note for note, slow and easy. It will be easy for you to follow. I also want you to understand the theory behind it, so we'll get into that a bit as well.
You'll also learn the basic jazz rhythm and some breaks. We call this Guitar Comping.
I'll show you the basic Jazz Blues Guitar Chord Progression and then I'll teach you some substitutions as well. We'll cover descending and ascending movements, that lead us from the I7 chord to the VI7alt chord. We can do that chromatically or diatonically. You'll learn both.
I've also made Bb Jazz Blues Backing Tracks slow and fast. They can be downloaded from the link above, so you can start practicing right away. No more excuses ;-)
And of course I've also made the Jazz Blues Guitar Chords TAB, in PDF and as Guitar Pro 5 and 7 versions, for you to download. It's always easyier to have a sheet of paper in front of you while following the Jazz Blues Comping Guitar Chords Lesson. But maybe that's just my old fashioned me, lol

Kind Lady Greetings from the USA you have inspired me to start playing again after so many years. In '72 I broke my back and both hands in an auto accident, on and over time I could no longer play. Guitars were stored for close to 25 years. I saw one of your lesson on TH-cam in January and started practicing again.

I've actually never used a thumbpick. I put one on once, probably did it wrong, and just couldn't play wroth it. You can't do upstrokes wroth it, can you?

Newbie question: the notation Cm9 and C-9 is the same chord, right? Is there a reason you use them both instead of always writing it the same way? Thank you for the lesson
It's the same, yes. There's no reason for the different writing. I usually write C-7.

i thought it's x3233x with the E bc 9th have major 3rds in them
Sure C9 has an E not an Eb. Did I say Eb? If so, I must have had a senior moment.

Where were you 40 yrs ago when I learned the blues turnaround - descending chromatic semitones - it was years before I learned what you just described so well regarding tri tone subs! And, your closing comment is so important about learning this form (and rhythm changes) in Bb - such a popular horn key👍. Important lesson - on many levels! Happy Holidays!
