I often refer to this as the "zen" of a program... if you can connect to "thinking in Rhino", you are already a long way towards a successful modeling session.
Simply traced over an image of a production seat. Use the picture command to import the image, lock it and then trace over it using standard curves. You can skip that step snd just use the image, but for the demo I felt that was distracting, which is why I did the extra tracing step.
To be fair the new stuff is pretty great... we just announced M1 support- once we get gpu rendering on the Mac, it’ll be as good if not better than a burly pc.
thank you so much for this great video. where can i find this layer setup or how can i add this layout? or can i add it as picture plane from my handdrawings ? which one do you recommend picture plane or by curves?
I typically use the default rhino layout for demos, so you should be able to replicate it quite easily. as for adding your own drawings, use the "picture" command in rhino, select your image then place it in your scene as you like. Edit it and position it with gumball-
Just need an advice. I'm learning Rhino from yours and others youtube channels. It is good and I'm learning a lot but as I would like to really master it...could you (or anyone of the community)advise me a step by step method, course, videos, etc. where I can learn it properly??? and so you it for product (as solidworks ish), furniture, interiors. Many thanks in advance!

hi.. thanks for the video.. do u have a video explaining in detail to convert to nurb? yes it just simply click 'to nurb' at the command, but, when it convert it, i dont know why my computer run slow, and the surface of the model has a lot of line (like mesh line, mybe it is ISO line etc) and the worst part every single srface have a bunch layer underneath. it make me harder to see my line to modify the object in nurb. really appreciate if u share the video of it. thank u.
Run the systeminfo command in rhino and email it to tech@mcneel.com. I’m betting your system may need a little tweaking, and with that info we can make some suggestions.
Hello friend, I liked your video, I have a question, I like modeling and I wondered if with a design like this I can print it on a 3D printer ... Thank you!
I got a question, How do I give a SubD different materials. Like I want some pieces of a SubD to be different materials as others. Thanks for making the tutorial!
at the moment, you cannot sub assign materials to parts of a subd object. You need to split them into separate parts. I typically wait until I convert to nurbs to do this, but you can extract faces and break the subd up that way. It's usually easier in nurbs because you can split in a way that is not constrained to topology.
kyle thanks so much for this, would you say this workflow applies to car design, and if yes would you paper doll the full car in one go or different subd objects that you assemble in nurbs at the end? there is a t spline video from you on this but it is quite old, maybe you found out a better approach with subd.
@@elmirage6005 yep, imaging making it from flat panels, then keeping an eye on your patch count and layout, (keep your edge counts the same) simply stitch or bridge the flat panels together to capture volume.
Kyle, at the 16.35 mark when you bevel the outer edge, mine will not bevel on windows. How do I make sure my edge around the outside is continuous and bevels evenly all the way around. My edge is beveling only on the bottom back four edges and not around the whole edge loop. Thanks
1st class tutorial dude. This brings some much needed creativity to the whole design process. Thanks for all of the great videos.
Thanks!
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. (Leonardo da Vinci) Congratulations for your simple teaching tactic, I truly appreciate it.
It's fun to learn with this guy, the side of his funny remarks makes honing your skills on Rhino a great time.
Thanks! I appreciate that- more coming soon!
modeling programs require their own way of thinking and you explain rhinos way very very well. thank you sir.

Many thanks for this vid. After a lot of frustration trying to figure an efficient workflow in SubD this tutorial was a game changer for me.
That’s so cool! Glad you enjoyed it!! Happy modeling -
Best explaining tutorial I have watched so far about Rhino
Thank you. This is by far the best method and explanation I have came across in my journey into learning rhino.🙏🙏🙏
So glad you found this helpful! happy modeling!
Learnt a lot, thanks so much for this tutorial
Great and very useful tutor as usual. Many thanks
Glad you liked it!
Thank you, great tutorial learn alot from this
Glad it was helpful!
Amazing. I would like to see how you went from the sketch to the splines that made the surfaces.

Thank you, that was great! I always make too many faces, I’ll try this. BTW, 6 yr old Mac still works!👍🏻

Starting to use Rhino here. Thanks for the video. For some reason the shift + control click does not work. Did you mean CMD shift click here? At 2:56
Yes sorry, shift+cmd on. Mac.
Shift + ctrl on pc

Thank's, continue.... please
Amazing. Can you make a video how did you setup your interface.
I use a very stock interface with some hot keys and a middle mouse menu for stuff I use a lot.
@@Rhinoceros3d it's kinda looks more professional than the stock interface oh v6. Thanks for the tutorial. Very helpful.
Great content thanks a lot
Hello friend, I liked your video, I have a question, I like modeling and I wondered if with a design like this I can print it on a 3D printer ... Thank you!
As long as the model is watertight, 100% yes.
Tanks, wonderful
I got a question,
How do I give a SubD different materials. Like I want some pieces of a SubD to be different materials as others.

@@Rhinoceros3d Thanks for the reply man. Gonna try it out ☺️
wow thank u so much
Thanks Kyle, how did you changed rhino's theme?
Can you provide a file with only a curve before modeling a chair?
drawing your own curves and building your own models is the basis of this tutorial... give it a go and see what you can come up with!
how did you get your sketch lines in 3d into your rhino model? did you draw those digitally with a stylus on a tablet or something?
check out this video for how I did that-

Paper doll the body sides then bridge to connect them. Check the rhino forums, I did a chaparral race car and talked about it’s construction there.
@@Rhinoceros3d thanks Kyle, even for a 1937 bugatti atlantic or similar cars with very prominent shapes?
@@elmirage6005 sure, think of how you’d make it if you cut them out of paper and taped them together.
@@elmirage6005 yep, imaging making it from flat panels, then keeping an eye on your patch count and layout, (keep your edge counts the same) simply stitch or bridge the flat panels together to capture volume.
thank you so much...how did you model those stitches (which are shown in the cover of this tutorial) ?
Project a curve to surface, then apply a line type to it (dashed) then curve pipe the dashed line in the properties panel

you had a 2nd surface hiding in your model, delete it and the bevel works fine-
can u share the file ?
send an email to tech@mcneel.com and we'll send a link to it.
how to render this in keyshot :((( ???
Export as obj or 3dm to keyshot and go from there.
