I have super dry skin, and the tinted sunscreen that works best for my dry skin is the Drmtlgy Physical Sunscreen. I sometimes use the Elta MD but the Drmtlgy is more moisturizing for my mature, dry skin.
Just got back from Hawaii. It was a combo of business and pleasure trip. I used the Mychelle sunscreen when I was working. I had no issues with it. I used it as makeup. For active activities I used Australian Gold for it’s water resistance formula. No issues here. I got back home as pale as I was going there 🙂.
Angie, I watched your video as I lay on the surgical table at my dermatologist office having a mohs procedure for skin cancer at my hairline. I am so grateful for your sunscreen videos and I am finally taking serious action with my sunscreen usage and have purchased the Undefined R&R for my face and another sunscreen for full body. In addition I ordered several of the other products you have recommended for skincare, including Agency. I am relatively new to your channel but have learned so much in a short time, so THANK YOU!!! They have to stitch me up soon so I need to go, just wanted you to know how much I appreciate your sharing this important information!
Hope you are okay. Yeah, I'm 58 and though I have had a dermatologist since I was in my mid 20s, not a one of them ever said, "Girl, put SPF all over your face, neck and hands, and put on a hat." Why? What sunscreen was there back then? Coppertone Tanning Lotion? Probably blocked UVB and let UVA darken up one's melanin. My first derm basically told me I was doomed. "For someone like you, " he said, looking down his nose at me, "It's not IF you get melanoma, it's WHEN." Thanks a lot man, real practical advice. Why didn't he just give me a Sun Precautions catalog instead? Also even my current doctors, one of them said, "Isn't just wearing a hat enough?" I said, "Doc, aren't you aware that the sun both MOVES and reflects off of things? Coming in at all angles?"
@@SusanSlattery thank you! I am ok but in quite a bit of pain at the surgical site this morning. Won’t be fun trying to get the tape to release my baby-fine hair later today when I am getting ready to shower. Not looking forward to it at all!😰Also, come to think of it, I have been with my dermatologist for the better part of 25 years and pretty sure he has never urged me to wear sunscreen. NOT wearing it has kept him in business!
Angie, THANK YOU so much for all the hard work (ie. time, effort, research, testing, production) you obviously do, to bring us high quality content/information! Your annual video on “Sunscreen Recommendations” is one myself & many others look forward to, trust & enjoy! Sending you hugs!🥰
Hey Guys, I just discovered that the Niod’s pump (only cost $1.50) fits the MyChelle spf 50 dropper bottle perfectly!!!! As you mention the dropper it comes with is super messy and replacing it with works perfectly now!
Hi Angie! Titanium dioxide covers UVA 1 and UVA 2 nowadays with the way that it's manufactured. There are 2 forms of it - rutile and anatase. The rutile form is what's mainly used in sunscreens nowadays and covers past 400nm so is a broad spectrum filter with similar coverage to zinc oxide. I think Lab Muffin Beauty Science mentions this in one of her videos. Thank you for your video!
Thank you for this! I was so disappointed about the La Roche Posay as it is my favorite. Your post prompted me to do some research and apparently titanium dioxide does provide full spectrum protection including UVA.
Also the circle around the uva indicates the sunscreen protection is at least a third of the specified SPF. So a 30 SPF would have a UVA rating of ten.
The Australian Gold in Fair is my new favourite! Its hard to find these specialty sunscreens in Canada and they are very expensive (many are $1 Cdn per mL), but the Australian Gold is affordable and available in Canada (thru Rexall). I'm gifting the AG to all my friends this summer. Thanks Angie for the great video.
Ever since I got introduced to the Australian gold sunscreen from you, it’s changed my life. It is pore blurring, almost Iike a veil. I use powder foundation over it and it’s a dreammm I don’t need foundation or concealer!!
Hi Angie I just want to take a moment to Thank You for telling me the importance of sunscreen. I am 56 and really just started using it daily 2yrs ago when starting to watch you when I started my skin care journey. I would use SS when going to the beach or pool and that was about it. You are saving peoples lives and making them healthier just by being an advocate for Sun Screen. Thank You❤️
I couldn’t have said it better, Theresa. Thank you, Angie. I started to really think about skin damage and cancer when I became super interested in listening to your videos and really picking up what you were putting down. I love MyChelle SS and going to order and try your fave.
I love how you break it all down!!! I try most of the sunscreens you suggest, and keep coming back to the Elta MD. Thanks for taking the time to keeping your viewers Sun safe, really appreciate it❤️
Hi Angie, Thanks for another great review! Sunscreen is so important. There is actually a very compelling study which took two groups and analyzed their skin initially, then one group wore sunscreen daily for a year and the other used a placebo cream. At the end of the year, the group which was wearing the sunscreen actually had few wrinkles and brown spots. They actually looked younger. By the way, loved your great chart at the end! You are amazing!! XXOO Beth
Hi Beth! Good to see you here. I am a subscriber of yours, too. I imagine participants in the study were told they will have a cream that may or may not contain SPF, because I would think there has to be some kind of consent to going without for a year. But that is wild to me that people took that risk 😬
@@elizabethmorris4572 I would guess it was people who weren't wearing sunscreen everyday in the first place, so they probably wouldn't have been concerned about it not having spf. Although maybe they started wearing sunscreen everyday after the study results came out
@@emmilouwho1530 I see what you are saying. Interesting study, for sure. Beth mentioned a placebo cream was given, so it prompted so many questions in my mind. I think it is even more concerning to me because my mom is currently recovering from reconstructive facial surgery due to recurrent melanoma. I change her bandages every day and this whole ordeal has been a long-term trauma. Also for the past year I have been using a mineral sunscreen that does not block all UVA rays. I am so thankful Angie pointed this out to us in this video. I had been trusting the label and am so disappointed. Angie, if you read this, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you are doing. I wish you every success.
Love that you mentioned that sunscreen usage can actually help reverse skin damage. That’s exactly what my dermatologist told me as she was trying an initial dose of liquid nitrogen on an ‘annoying red spot’ on my chest (pre-cancerous something ☹️). I’ve been a bit lax on the chest sunscreen I will admit but not now!
@@heathermunoz6282 I use Softymo Speedy cleansing oil then a gentle rinse able cleanser right on top. It doesn’t take more time. By the way, Softymo rinses cleanly by itself which is why I prefer it to HadoLabo. I also use a washcloth to remove most of the cleanser before a final water splash.
Same. Gorgeous formula but way too orange. I use the UV Physical and the finish is not as glowy and gorgeous, but the tint is more neutral and lighter.
I've tried multiple MD formulas which are surprisingly different from each other. I, too, wish the Elta UV Elements 44 came in a lighter or untinted version, the formula feels so good on the skin. The UV Physical 41 has a lighter shade but feels to me so similar to the Australian Gold that I may as well save on the price. I keep looking for a Goldilocks product. Sunscreen is my most expensive face product because one tube doesn't last long as I use the correct amount. At some of these prices it seems reasonable to expect something really good.
Have you tried the DRMTLGY physical tinted one? Elta MD was too orange for me too but the DRMTLGY one is fairly light. I really struggle with tinted sunscreens because I'm practically glow in the dark pale! I can only use physical sunscreens too so it's a battle for sure
I too used to love the Mychelle sunscreen and then out of the blue got a strange reaction, itchy rash. I returned it and bought another thinking it was a fluke since I’d never had a bad reaction to it before and had the same response, wondered if they changed the formula and was so upset as it’s my favorite! It is the only one that I think is truly matte but not drying like the Australian gold. Glad to hear I’m not the only one. Hope they change the formula back!
Hi All, I have dry skin due to the anti aging regimen, but don’t like a dewy/shiny look. I finally figured out to just use the Australian Gold on my forehead and t zone then one of the more moisturizing options, like the Elta MD, everywhere else. Then I use something without tint on my neck and chest so it doesn’t get on my clothes. Admittedly elaborate for daily sunscreen, but it works great and addresses all the different needs, Angie, keep up the great work! 👍🏻
So weird people said they had problems with mychelle sunscreen. I have used the medium dark for a few years now and I've never had a problem. I'm also surprised because it is one of the cleanest sunscreens out there. Mychelle uses the cleanest ingredients. I love it because it has such a matte finish, it's almost hard to rub in because it dries so quickly. Its the only tinted sunscreen I can trust to reapply when I'm out and about and not worry that I look greasy. AND the color is actually a skin color, it's more brown than pink or orange. Matches my skin so well, and the spf 50, you can't beat.
Hi Angie, I live in Australia and after watching your recommendations, I ordered the Mychelle sunscreen and I absolutely love it. It works well on my skin, sits well under makeup and the best is that it is not shiny or greasy. I love that it has many shades and I have found the perfect shade for me. Thank you!
I love tinted sunscreen!! It's wonderful!! I love it!! I wear sunscreen everyday. It has an SPF of 55. It's Neutrogena for the face. My dermatologist told me to buy this one. I was using Clinique sunscreen. However, the dermatologist said that the Neutrogena for the face with an SPF of 55, is much better than the Clinique sunscreen. So, that's what I use. We live in Houston, Texas. It's always hot down here, especially, during the summer months. Stay safe with heat!! Stay hydrated, everyone!! Have a blessed day, everyone!! 💖💖💖
You always have the best sunscreen recommendations! I’ve been using the Australian gold because of you and recently got the mychell. Which I love. No bad skin reaction btw. Love how you do deep dives with the science and research. Would love it if you do more korean and Japanese sunscreens
Oh no! I was applying the La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50SPF when you started talking about it… just want to say thank you, thank you for taking the time to teach us how and what ingredients/products to use to take care of our skin.
Thank you Angie, I also been using the La Roche Posay , loving it. I will definitely be changing based on your excellent research. 😢😮 It should be criminal for a company to misrepresent a product so important to us
Hi Angie and friends. I use the Australian gold in light and it’s still too dark. So I add a little white foundation mixer from LA girl (less than 10 bucks) to create the perfect shade. Then I use this as my foundation and makeup goes on perfectly. Looks just like foundation but more bullet proof. I worn this to my moms funeral this week, and with all the crying and hugging and wiping my tears away, this looked almost exactly the same at the end of the night. Also use the Elta md. Those are my holy grails. Thanks for your useful videos. Your the best.
For the light/medium tint and the dark tint MyChelle, the second ingredient is agave leaf. The sap from Agave can be very irritating for many people. However, the untinted or light tint does not have agave in it. So if you had problems with this sunscreen, you might try the no tint or light tint and see if that is less irritating
Hi Angie, Brilliant as always and loved the chart at the end. Says it all. My holy grail is the SkinCeuticals' Physical Fusion UV Defense Sunscreen SPF 50. It’s $36 for 1.7 fluid ounces. I’ve used it for years. I have combo skin and it’s never shiny. It has what they call a universal tint which works for me but might not for some, it’s a bit on the grey side but it really does melt into the skin and is invisible once it dries down. I also love the Australian Gold thanks to you! Thanks for being our sunscreen guru!
So glad to hear I’m not the only one that had a reaction to Myshelle sunscreen. I absolutely loved it, then when I got a second bottle, I was covered in itchy hives . The company said they only changed the label but not the formula. I tried a couple more times and each time I had a horrible reaction…total bummer
Hi Angie. I have sensitive rosacea skin and I’m still wearing and loving the Mychelle. It’s my go to for no makeup days. I live in Louisiana where the humidity is out of control so I need a less dewy sunscreen during summer. I did notice a slightly more liquid consistency and they changed the bottle so maybe they added something irritating but fingers crossed, it hasn’t affected me. I’ve got the R&R in my cart too. I swear I have every sunscreen you’ve recommended lol.
I use the Australian Gold sunscreen and I do have dry skin. I just add lotion with it and it works great. I especially like this sunscreen because it doesn't bother my eyes, works great under my bb creams and it's affordable.
Good morning ❤️ You introduced me to sunscreen when I 1st started following you. I use the EltaMd, AG & Mychelle . Luckily I can use a few chemical sunscreens: Dr Jart & LaRoche Posae SPF100. My choice depends on how humid it's going to be & my expected activity. I love the tinted mineral sunscreens because I can usually go without foundation and just use concealer & powder. I really appreciate all the effort you put into testing sunscreens for us. Thank you, Angie ❤️ ❤️
I can’t wait to try Naked Sundays products!! Their products sound like they are going to wear beautifully and I love the added skincare benefits!! R&R is on its way to me and I can’t wait!! I’ve been using the new Eucerin line with anti-aging ingredients and although they’re not tinted…I love everything about them!! They wear beautifully on my dry skin, are water-resistant and the best thing is that when you sweat, it does not burn your eyes at all!! I live in Florida and wearing this while I work…has been a game changer!!
Always love the sunscreen reviews! I too had a massive allergic reaction to the MyChelle after wearing it for years. They report that they increased the zinc to meet industry standards. I contacted them and they were very responsive (sent me a few other products). It took me a full week to recover from the chemical burn and required a number of anti-inflammatory agents to heal. Really loved the original formula, but to your point Angie, this sunscreen is not for sensitive skin types. Thanks for the new suggestions!
can't wear chemical sunscreens either but I do love Elta MD for my face and Australian Gold for my body. All because of you!!!! I've only had one skin cancer spot in 5 years which is old damage as we know. Thank you! Now I wear it every day!!!!
Two popular and highly available sunscreens not mentioned here would be the CereVe Hydrating Sunscreen and the DRMTLGY Mineral and Chemical Sunscreens. The only negatives on either of those is, like many, the residual shine that can be toned down. Thank you, Angie, I love that you get into the technical weeds and science as well as the aesthetics. 💖
I also had a horrible reaction to the Mychelle! I tried it twice just to make sure it was that, and both times broke out in hives everywhere! So glad you mentioned this! A ton of reviews on Ulta have the same experience as well. So sad cause it was such a good texture 😩
Just wanted to comment about the Mychelle liquid dropper light medium sunscreen. Angie’s sixth pick. I have normal skin possibly slightly combo around the T-zone but overall at age 58 I’ve suffered little to none sensitivity in my face. I started using the Mychelle approximately two years ago and immediately became my dream sunscreen. As Angie mentioned I was one of the individuals that had some severe reactions. It started late last year and culminated with a trip to the emergency room on Christmas Eve. The skin on my eyelids and eyebrows had opened up after months of peeling burning and inflammation. I did what my dermatologist said which was to illuminate everything and slowly add things back. So after throwing away all of my make up and starting with fresh make up I did just that. However the one thing I didn’t start fresh with was my sunscreen because I needed to go out into the world and have my face protected every day three months into finally adding everything back and still suffering I immediately stopped wearing everything including my sunscreen. I want to head and switch to the Ulta MD. And have never looked back. I had no idea there was problems until I started seeing it pop up but everybody was having terrible issues. I contacted Mychelle directly and here’s an excerpt from an email exchange that I had with them….. sorry for the length of this but I wanted to help everyone to prevent them from going through what I went through especially if you have no idea what you’re sensitive or not I would stay away from it and opt with one of the other five. Here is the message “Within the last 2 years we did increase our active Zinc Oxide from 16.1% to 20% to be consistent in concentration with our original base formulation the Sun Shield Liquid SPF50 (non-tinted). This minor modification should not induce an adverse reaction; however, everyone's skin is different. We would recommend discontinuing use of this product immediately. MyCHELLE has a new Sun Shield Liquid Tint SPF30 with the lower amount of Zinc Oxide that is coming out within the next week or two. “ Also I want to know that my lot codes that they confirmed were the affected change ones yet the statement on the packaging said new packaging same formula! This was extremely deceptive and for that reason I will not purchase from them going forward even though they have a new formula coming out in the next week. Sorry for the negativity love Angie love her channel been following her for almost 7 years and I am grateful for her bringing this to light because without that I would’ve never learned what the cause of my face deteriorating was.
I use the MyChelle sunscreen for the last year, and have never had a reaction. I really love wearing it when I’m active outside. Gives my skin an even tone while providing protection.
@saltandiron, have you tried their mineral sunscreen for the body? I have MyChelle’s chemical sunscreen (it’s water resistant too) for the body and it irritated my arms and legs. I bought it on a whim because it was a special for $5.00. I want to try their mineral sunscreen for $25.00. I love MyChelle’s tinted sunscreen for the face.
I can absolutely recommend an Australian brand ECO Tan, facial sunscreen. Zinc based, rubs in without any caking or casting on your face and doesn’t block pores.
I bought the MyChelle Tinted Sun Shield when you recommended it 2 yrs ago & still no problems. I bought it again from Ulta on sale this year and compared it to my current bottle. There was an extremely slight difference in liquidity but once I applied the new one to my face, it performed the same as previous purchases. So, the formula may or may not be the same, but if you don't have sensitive skin, I would recommend trying it. On days I'm just running to the grocery, I don't even bother to use anything on top since it evens out my skin tone. When I go to work, foundation behaves well on top. I still love it but with my dry skin, I will gladly try the R&R next!
I noticed the difference in how liquid it was also. I used to love it but I had a horrible reaction to it. It made my skin itch and then burn. My face was bright red and started flaking. I tried it twice and it happened both times. I thought maybe it was old but it had not expired
the LRP tinted mineral is actually one of the only ones mentioned here that has good UVA protection. It's sold in Canada and the EU and follows their regulations which are far stricter in terms of broad spectrum, unlike most of the other ones here. Titanium dioxide can be formulated to protect well into the UVA spectrum now.
MIXING SUNSCREENS: Two dermatologists have told me that it is fine to mix a tinted mineral and non-tinted mineral sunscreen to tone down color, as long as they are both mineral sunscreens. They said that problems can occur when mixing a mineral and chemical sunscreen. Also, beware that foundation may contain a different type of sunscreen, too.
I've used the Mychelle one for years...loved. This last bottle, I did have a reaction, but I am so sensitive to everything. I just thought I became sensitive to one of the extracts used. But so disappointed because I used instead of foundation and loved it. Update: I had a second bottle of the MyChelle sunscreen, same packaging. Instead of throwing it away, I thought I would just try it. The consistency was more fluid like than the one I reacted to and didn't clump up around the opening as much. I haven't reacted to this bottle at all. I'm wondering if there was just a bad batch?
Thank you for this review! As a paler/fair skinned person I think the others you showed would be too dark and warm for me but I’m very intrigued by the Naked Sundays option!
Thanks for another great sunscreen video, Angie. Years ago you converted this former sun worshiper to a sunscreen user and lover and I'm so grateful! I have 5 sunscreens I use as the mood (of my skin 😄) strikes: the Undefined R&R; eltaMD UV Elements; Dr.G Green Mild Up Sun+ (not tinted but I'm pretty fair); Paula's Choice Resist Super Light Daily Wrinkle Defense that I mix with CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen (yeah, I know but the drier Paula's Choice balances out the very dewy CeraVe and they're both SPF 30), I can wear almost all of these on their own, too. Thanks again for all the hard work you do to give us help and recommendations. 😊 Have a fantastic week, my friend! XXOO ❤️
Hi Angie 🤗 you must try Bliss Sunblock SPF 30. I promise you will love it. Tinted mineral… I prefer it over the Australian Gold, not as drying but very good under makeup 👍 Am always relying on your recommendations ☺️
I tried the Bliss SPF as well as some of the skincare. It’s heavily fragranced, the spf is full of lavender oil. I came out in a red hot rash with their products and I’m not normally sensitive to things. So just warning anyone out there who is sensitive to essential oils / fragrance you may want to skip it. I agree the spf was a lovely texture. Nicer than Australian Gold but I just couldn’t use it.
I love the MyChelle Sun Shield Liquid Tint SPF 50 - it dries so quickly and and allows me to apply makeup faster. It wears all day but it is a little drying by the end of the day but I don't mind that.
(Jenn). I was surprised not to see the CeraVe tinted mineral sunscreen on this list. I think this is a great dupe for the Elta MD. I still use Elta MD but I’ve switched to CeraVe during my work week since it is so much more affordable. Elta MD is for weekends only now.
@@debh3404 on me the CeraVe is literally Orange and I have a neutral skin tone. It's also very thick and shiny. Even though it's mineral something in it irritates my skin. Too bad because the price point is awesome
I mix it with the CeraVe non-tinted spf 50 mineral sunscreen to get the perfect color match for my skin. It is way too dark and orangey for me otherwise. It covers like a foundation. It is dewy, but a translucent powder gives a very fresh, healthy looking skin. I love it- and the price!
(Jenn) So funny how everybody’s skin is so different! Elta MD is my holy grail but I have to buy both the tinted and nontinted versions and combine before I put on my face or it looks like I scrubbed a sweet potato wash all over it😂. And for some reason, the Cervae is just a perfect match. So thankful for Angie and all the work she does for us!❤️
I also got an allergic reaction to the Mychelle sunscreen. Absolutely loved the matte finish and lightweight!! But it made my skin so itchy and red!! And the scent is so strong!! I hope they fix that problem. Will try it again if they do!
I love the La roche posay. It has turned into my foundation most days. Trying to find makeup that doesn't settle in lines is really hard. I appreciate all the information you give your viewers.
thank you Angie. I just discovered Sun Bum Glow 30 SPF, it is tinted and it replaces my tinted moisturizer. I wore it today for the first time and it felt light and not greasy, smooth!!!
The chart doesn't show how different forms of Titanium Dioxide absorb. There are versions on the market like Solaveil XT-40W that have very good UVA protection, compliant with EU regulations, that absorb very well up to 400nm. The chart also doesn't show the strenght of the filter, inorganic filters are relatively ineffective, which means you need higher concentrations to get the same level of protection.
@@peterkloostermann Thank You for sharing this info with us! Would you please suggest a reliable resource for us to research the various forms of titanium dioxide & their UVA coverage? Have a great day!😊
@@peterkloostermann Are you a cosmetic or pharmaceutical chemist? Your info is very interesting and, as always, more in-depth than what we'd expect from a makeup and skincare adviser. Not that Angie's info isn't necessary and appreciated, it is limited...
Hi Angie! Loved this video and was particularly moved by the UVA/UVB chart. Please show that every time you cover this subject. Thanks so much for being the Queen of Sunscreen!!
I love that "Queen of Sunscreen"! Angie you are great with your reviews! Also I bought the body wash that your dad helped created, I believe. It is fabulous and really great for travel. Thanks for all you do!
The chart doesn't show how different forms of Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide absorb. Particle size, coatings and also the solvents make quite a lot of difference. The chart also doesn't show the strength of the filter, inorganic filters are relatively ineffective, which means you in general need higher concentrations to get the same level of protection.
Hi Angie. I'm a long time viewer and RN of 37 years. Wanted to add my experience with the MyChelle sunscreen you reviewed. I don't use this everyday but did a few weeks ago after purchasing and my face looked sunburned that night and following day. Thought it was the walk I took that day. Then I tried it again yesterday and developed MAJOR redness, swelling, itchiness, raised rash with small blisters and heat like my face was on fire. There are quite a few similar reactions posted on the Ulta site. Someone on the Pharmaca site thought it might be a nickle reaction to the little ball in the bottle used to mix it. Just an FYI. LOVE your channel!
I'm so sorry to hear you reacted badly to the sunscreen. Thanks for sharing the nickel theory, that's interesting! I sure hope they get to the bottom of it soon!
I’m currently using the lrp tinted mineral sunscreen. I love this brand but I’m really disappointed to find out they’re being deceitful. It was a bit too dark for me anyway. Will try the Australian gold sunscreen next. Thanks for the info!
I have been using the Elta UV Elements on your recommendation and it’s great, but a little warm toned for my fair/neutral skin- but I learned that it can be mixed with the Elta UV Replenish, which is the non-tinted version of Elements, to tone the shade down. Confirmed directly with Elta MD that it’s the same formula as Elements and that they can be mixed without affecting proper setup. Hope it helps. Thanks for your awesome videos!!💗💗
Thank you Angie!!! Couldn't age so gracefully without you. MYCHELLE sucked all the moisture out of my skin leaving me flakey for days. The smell was awful on one of the tints so they replaced it and it still stunk. I am a tried and true AUSTRALIAN GOLD fan. I am 58 and I get so many compliments about how beautiful my skin is. I even had two 30 year olds asking my what I do, I gave them a copy of your regimen and sent them to your blog. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Thank you for the wonderful reviews. So helpful and most of us wouldn't dream of doing the kind of testing you do!! Thank you for subjecting your skin to so many products to find the ones that work the best and being so conscientious about explaining the better and less good aspects of each.
Hi Angie, I love the Paula’s choice mixed with a little Elta MD, because the elta is a bit dark for me, (which I got from your recommendations) or the Lira tinted. All 3 great under makeup. Your videos take out the guesswork, so thank you much for doing these every year!
THANK you Angie Another Great sunscreen testing video!! I will be 67 soon a lifelong Phoenician and boy do I battle the the sun here in Arizona. Going to the Dermatologist this morning... AGAIN. There were no sunscreens growing up here as a child. I had a sunburned nose all summer long as a kid so I Love your testing these sunscreens. It helps me to keep my eyes peeled when I put shopping and see any of them on sale. I ALWAYS wear a hat and I became a Curology user because of you several years ago. I switched to Agency I've a year ago. Two regrets... Being a sun worshipper and not getting on Tretinion 25 years ago. 😆 Keep up the great work here YOU are the BEST!!!
Fantastic choices. I'll never be without my Elta MD tinted sunscreen. There's only one flaw, when you get to a 1/3 of the bottle, the pump stops working. I have to unscrew it, and pour it into my hand. Gets a bit messy, but for me, it's the best sunscreen. I did repurchase the Australian Gold, but it dries my skin to much. It's a great product, so I gave it to my younger daughter. Thank you for telling us about the La Roche Posay. My dermatologist gave me a bunch of samples. I liked it, but thankfully, I ran out of it. I was going to purchase a full bottle, so I had an alternative, but you just save me money and my skin! ❤❤
Agree, the Elta gets a bit messy when you get to the end of the bottle. But I want to use every bit, with the price point. Love that product and so glad I found it, through Angle 😍
If y'all loved the Australian gold sunblocks but maybe thought it was a little heavy, drying, or just not right for you..yall HAVE to try the bliss block star tinted sunscreen from target and Amazon if you can. It's not as drying, super smoothing and leaved you poreless as well as smoothed out crinkles, where's well under makeup and alone if that's enough coverage for you and I love it!! I have never looked or felt better about a sunblock. It's a little pricey around $20 for a little over an ounce I believe but hey it lasts me for weeks when used on face alone. And I wear allot.
Keep on recommending the MyChelle. Even though I had a terrible reaction, it did look beautiful on my fair, large pore skin. It was worthy the try. I was able to pass it in to my daughter who absolutely loves it.
Thank you Angie! You really clearly care that your followers use sunscreen! I’ve had melanoma and appreciate your reminders and suggestions. I absolutely LOVE the Myshelle and have had zero issues. Also love the Australian gold on my freckled sunspot chest and hands👏🏻💕❤️
Wow! I ran out of my Elta one and was waiting for my replacement to come in the mail, so I got the La Roche one. I was in the sun that day and I was wondering why I got a few FRECKLES/brown spots!! Now I know! I guess it really pays to do your research because now I'm going to have to deal with these spots for months! Thank you for all your thorough research for us. You are my "g to" for honest reviews on things.
Thanks for another great sunscreen roundup. The MyChelle pills on me like crazy and is too dry even for my combo oily skin. My go-to for under makeup is either Supergoop mineral Matte or Sheer Screen. I've been enjoying the Tower 28 as a wear alone (with powder option).
Have been using La Roche Posay for a couple of years now and have loved its applicability and finish. Great under make-up too, BUT.....had no idea I was being deceived by the inadequate UVA protection. NOT. HAPPY. I will be trying out your recommended high performers Elta MD & R&R undefined even though I have to buy them through Amazon US as I live in Australia. These products can only be bought online, not even Sephora here in Sydney sells them!!!!! Thanks for your amazing work Angie and you look incredible.
Hi, Angie! I absolutely love the Australian Gold sunscreen and have used it for years. I’m having difficulty finding it lately. It’s “out of stock” on their website, as well as at Amazon, Ulta, drug stores. I sent an e-mail to Australian Gold, but never received a response. Do you have any information you could share? Thank you!
I too love this sunscreen and have not been able to find it anywhere. I emailed the company and received a reply informing me that supply chain issues have affected production of the fair to light shade. They mentioned it should be back in stock this month. Keep your fingers crossed!
Thank you for doing all of this!! I have been using the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen for a long time, but wanted to try a tinted mineral sunscreen. After watching your annual sunscreen testing video, I ordered the Undefined R&R and I LOVE it!! I can just throw on a little primer, loreal true match nude and some Lumi Glotion (also on your recommendation), bronzer and I'm out the door!! And my skin looks so nice and natural!! Thanks again!! Just love your content
I just ordered the R&R to try. Tinted sunscreen typically are too dark for me and they are messy on my clothes, so I have been using Dr.G, which you recommended and if I want a little tint, the Elta MD UV Elements is perfect over it! There is something i love about the Australian Gold, but since my skin is so dry, I can only use it in the heat of the summer. Thanks for all your videos about sunscreen, keep drilling into our heads!
I’m with you, love the combo of Dr. G with a little Elta MD over top. Gives me a really nice complexion. The R&R makes me look like an absolute oil slick.
@@embeth446 Does your R&R have a scent? I ordered a bottle and the smell is so bad I have to wash my hands afterward. I wonder if I got a bad bottle and should buy another one?
Hi Angie! I am so glad to hear that I am not alone in having a reaction to the Mychelle sunscreen. I do not have any skin sensitivity or allergies and used it daily instead of foundation. I developed an extremely itchy rash by the time I got to the bottom of the bottle. It absolutely broke my heart that I had to stop using it. Thank you for showing replacements for my former holy grail pick.
Same thing for me. I'm not generally sensitive to products on my face. I used Mychelle for a few weeks and loved it, but then started to have awful irritation on my neck as well as my cheeks and eyebrows (weird!).
My latest facial sunscreen love is the Bliss Blockstar. It's the best blurring primer plus mineral sunscreen in one, and it's tinted. I bought a tiny travel size at Target, used it for a couple days, then ordered the full-size. I LOVE it.
This is the first I’m hearing of others having a reaction to the MyChelle sunscreen. I had such an intense reaction I went to the Dermatologist! So sad because I loved how it looked on my skin. I’d love to know what’s in it that is causing the problem for everyone!!
I am paler than Angie so I have struggled with the tinted sunscreens and mineral sunscreens in general. And then many sunscreens have felt too heavy for my skin - especially under foundation. So I have resorted to mixing. But I am so excited that I have finally found a lightweight way to do this with two of Angie's favorites. I first apply the MAKEPREMDefense Me Calming Sun Cream (which leaves a bit of a white cast) then put the Undefined R&R Sun Serum on top. They pair well together, don't feel heavy on my skin and mixing the two finally gives me an acceptable paler tint. I have previously tried the MyChelle (felt odd on my skin) and the Australian Gold (too dark and extremely thick on my skin). Thank you Angie for your May recommendations video - I finally found some mineral sunscreens that work for me!
Still jealous of all the people who can use that Australian Gold formula! I saw all the silicones in the ingredients and thought for sure I'd love it on my dry skin. Sadly, it turned SUPER orange within 30 minutes and pulled so much moisture out of my skin it actually hurt! It honestly looked and felt like a clay mask.💔 I know some people have circumvented this with thick moisturizers underneath, but I just don't think it's worth risking another experience like that for me. I do know I'm not alone in this experience, so if you have very dry skin PLEASE remember to patch test before using!❤️
@@dawnmarie240 For personal reasons I'm a strictly-zinc girl these days. I have found ones that work on my dry skin, but luckily I'm pale enough that a white cast has to be REALLY bad before it's a problem. I don't really wear makeup, so, with that context in mind... From the drugstore, one of my favorites is the Pipette sunscreen (non-tinted). Angie hated it, but it works GREAT for me! My favorite drugstore water-resistant sunscreen is the Sun Bum mineral (tinted and untinted versions). At Ulta, I also really like Cotz (tinted and non, water resistant available) and Kinship. Cotz is especially great if you love a good oil-and-silicone layer that looks like satin sitting on top of your skin all day. It's the kind of thing that most oily-to-normal people HATE, but it's so soothing and satisfying for me. Kinship's "regular" sunscreen has a very, very faint tint, but their water resistant "sport" version is white. Cocokind (not tinted) and Versed (tinted) also have really good sunscreens. I couldn't be certain, but I suspect the Cocokind sunscreen was starting to irritate my skin a bit before I finished the last bottle.
I love watching your sunscreen videos. I have used the MyChelle liquid spf and It has been my favorite for a long time and I never had any bad reactions. Dr. Dray has a really good video “can we trust SPF’s” and she talks about only titanium dioxide spf’s like the La Roche Possay but also about looking at the entire formulation of the sunscreens and not only at the active ingredients to determine coverage since the protection will really come down to all the ingredients and the entire formulation of the spf. At the end of the day, it sounds like there is no perfect sunscreen. It’s all about personal preference. Thanks for your informative video.
I am 61 years old, and I have used Michele mineral sunscreen in the light color for 2 bottles (I use the auto-delivery from the company to get 10% off) I have not experienced any skin sensitivity issues, rashes, etc which I have heard others talk about. Just giving you my input from this product. It is a matte finish, like you said, and is good for people with oily/combo skin . Definitely not for ppl with dry skin. Thanks for all of your research. Love your vlogs!
Love your first three - just got the R&R and I like it a little less than the Elta MD which I love. Australian Gold is my “beach” sunscreen - a little mattifying for my dry skin for every day. Haven’t tried the others, but the ones I have are perfect.
@@dtraveler3080 I don’t consider the smell of the R&R “offensive”. It smells to me like many “unscented” skin care products - sort of odd due to no fragrance masking. Perhaps yours was off.
Unfortunately the R&R sunscreen did not work for me. I LOVE their packaging but the color and shiny finish just didn’t work for me. Also the I could not stand the smell…one sunscreen I recently discovered that is under the radar is the Cetaphil Sheer Mineral Face (spf 50). Not tinted but the formula to me is just as good as many korean sunscreen. I almost prefers this over the korean sunscreen because it’s not glowy…more satin matte which is hard to find these days. Also it’s water resistant which most korean sunscreens are not.
Oh MyChelle, MyChelle… worst experience ever! I used to love it until it stopped loving me. It suddenly caused facial edema. Edema as in my face was so swollen I looked disfigured. I had never had such a bad allergic reaction, basically anaphylaxis. I had to take Benadryl and it took me a good week to go back to baseline. Two months later I did a spot test to confirm and it happened all over again! Again, I used it for a year without a hitch. And then I blew up like a puffer fish! Beware!
Angie, thanks to you, I have family members reaching out to me to ask about sunscreen! You are helping so many people with videos like these! 💓 PS I can’t find the Australian Gold in stock anywhere! Anyone have any suggestions of where to look other than Angie’s links?
Thank you for this video. I am grateful for this kind of information. I love a good tinted mineral sunscreen. I love Elta MD 44 SPF but I’m presently using less expensive Australian Gold which I don’t like as much because it feels heavier and goopier on my face but pretty good for no makeup days. I am also using LaRoche-Posay Athelios SPF 50 Tinted fluid mineral sunscreen which I’m really loving under makeup. The only thing about using sunscreen too much is it’s healthy to get sun on one’s unprotected skin every day. It’s getting a little paranoid to wear sunscreen every day even when one is inside the house. I can see wearing it in the car. I wear it in the car myself but not in the house. I guess if I was planning to sit in a sunny window all day perhaps I would. Just don’t forget that Vitamin D is necessary for life and is really a very important hormone. Too much sun and like too much sun screen fall in the category of too much of a thing and that isn’t usually good thing. I’d be afraid of the long term repercussions of no sun whatsoever on my skin more than a little photoaging which is my choice of course . I’ve always tried to be sensible about sun exposure and early morning is the best time to get those healthful rays and 10-20 mins is usually good but everyone has to do their own research. I love Dr Dray and she’s more extreme covering herself with sunscreen AND wrapping up like a mummy when going outside or driving. To each his own. Much love ❤️
Thank you for this video. I have ordered the Elta MD and can't wait to try it. Last week, I tried the Laroche Posay sunscreen for the first time, and it aggravated my rosacea.
😆
Good luck to you! Many blessings
🙏🏻
Just when I thought I was getting a grip, this subject gets even MORE complicated! But, thank you.
Thank you for this! I was so disappointed about the La Roche Posay as it is my favorite. Your post prompted me to do some research and apparently titanium dioxide does provide full spectrum protection including UVA.
Thank you for explaining that bec I was perplexed why so many dermatologists highly recommend it.
Hot and Flashy - Do you agree with this and how would we be able to find out for sure?
Also the circle around the uva indicates the sunscreen protection is at least a third of the specified SPF. So a 30 SPF would have a UVA rating of ten.
The Australian Gold in Fair is my new favourite! Its hard to find these specialty sunscreens in Canada and they are very expensive (many are $1 Cdn per mL), but the Australian Gold is affordable and available in Canada (thru Rexall). I'm gifting the AG to all my friends this summer. Thanks Angie for the great video.
What is your skin type?
Thank You❤️
Awww, thanks so much Theresa! 💜
Agree with you, Beth!
Sunscreen can't reverse sun-related skin damage, it can only help minimize future skin/sun damage.
I’m still loving the Australian Gold. I often mix it with a more moisturizing sunscreen especially if it isn’t a very hot day.
I live it too but have such a difficult time removing it. Btw, I don't want to have to use 2 to 3 different removers.
@@micheletomlin3691 Gotcha. I'll buy it from Amazon.
Just finished my Elta MD. It's a little orange for me so I'm going to order one of the others. Thanks for doing the work for us!
I use the Ella MD UV Physical which has a lighter tone. Works great.
I found it to be orange on my pale skin too. Now I use the Paula's Choice tinter mineral sunscreen and like it the best of all I have tried.
Hi All,
I have dry skin due to the anti aging regimen, but don’t like a dewy/shiny look. 👍🏻
I finally bought the Australian Gold, and it’s amazing. I use it with a little concealer instead of foundation, and it stays looking great!
Thank you!
Did it have a bad smell? Mine did so I returned it.
We are all a little jealous of those Aussie sunscreens - I think it is Ultra Violette that is supposed to be good
I love tinted sunscreen!!
I know! Me too
Thank you Angie, I also been using the La Roche Posay , loving it. I will definitely be changing based on your excellent research. 😢😮
It should be criminal for a company to misrepresent a product so important to us
Me too.
Me too!
😩 ugh me too
Hi Angie and friends.
Hi Angie,
Brilliant as always and loved the chart at the end.
The SkinCeuticals is also one of my favorites. I know it’s a bit more expensive, but it does have a long shelf life, so I buy the 4.2 oz.
Can I ask which lotion you're mixing it with?
@@gara_enchanted I use elf Holy Hydration Daily Moisturizer. I like the consistency and it comes with a pump, so it's easy to add to the sunscreen.
@@dianegreiner4054 thank you so much!
I Absolutely love Mychelle sun screen I’ve not had any problems with it at all
I can’t wait to try Naked Sundays products!!
Hello Denise how are you doing dear
Always love the sunscreen reviews! I too had a massive allergic reaction to the MyChelle after wearing it for years. They report that they increased the zinc to meet industry standards. I contacted them and they were very responsive (sent me a few other products). It took me a full week to recover from the chemical burn and required a number of anti-inflammatory agents to heal. Really loved the original formula, but to your point Angie, this sunscreen is not for sensitive skin types. Thanks for the new suggestions!
I use the Austrialian Gold and love it! I fix the dryness by mixing it with Blue Lizard mineral sunscreen. Works great!!
Love Blue Lizard.
can't wear chemical sunscreens either but I do love Elta MD for my face and Australian Gold for my body.
Love DRMTLGY universal tinted one and its great for combo skin, also you get so much!
I love her brutal honesty. It's highly appreciated 🙂
I also had a horrible reaction to the Mychelle! I tried it twice just to make sure it was that, and both times broke out in hives everywhere! So glad you mentioned this! A ton of reviews on Ulta have the same experience as well. So sad cause it was such a good texture 😩
Didn’t break out but skin got super tight and dry and itchy. Sent it back.
Also I want to know that my lot codes that they confirmed were the affected change ones yet the statement on the packaging said new packaging same formula!
Thanks for sharing your experience, I’m sorry you went through such an ordeal. 💜
Did you hear about this from Lab Muffin's channel? She's Australian.
I still use that. Some of the thicker ones make me itchy. I think the Elta would be itchy.
I noticed the difference in how liquid it was also. I used to love it but I had a horrible reaction to it. It made my skin itch and then burn. My face was bright red and started flaking. I tried it twice and it happened both times. I thought maybe it was old but it had not expired
I had a reaction to MyChelle too. I am bummed bc I liked it too.
the LRP tinted mineral is actually one of the only ones mentioned here that has good UVA protection.
Good to know thanks. I'm struggling finding a tinted mineral for my face budget friendly and not orange. 👍
@@tiradomaribel9436 I have been doing what Angie does. Mixing Elta with Paula's choice and it is perfect.
I've been doing that with the Avene tinted ...is so dark...so instead of returning it...I've been adding it to the white one and works great
I always apply a chemical first wait 20 minutes then do my tinted mineral
@@kittykittysoftpaws me too! 😎
Angie please try Alastin Silkshield all mineral no tint…no white cast AND no sticky feeling. Absolutely in love with this.
Hey. Marianne how are you doing dear it’s a pleasure meeting you
Thanks for another great sunscreen video, Angie.
I have it, will be trying it soon!
Does the CeraVe lean more to the cool side or warm? I would love a good neutral.
@@debh3404 Very warm. Way too dark for me, and feels thick. Wish it worked better for me because the price sure does. I need a neutral too.
Angie... that chart I made a screenshot of and will be keeping with me for reference. Thank you - as usual - for your thoroughness! Lots of love. ♡♡♡
You are so welcome!
@@peterkloostermann
Whatever: the company SHOULD HAVE SHOWN the specific details on the packaging !!!
Interesting info on La Roche Posay. It is my fav sunscreen and Dr Dray also recommended it.
Avene has got THE BEST one for dry, dehydrated skin.
Elta UV Elements is great. It’s yellow and dark for me, but it’s good enough that I use it anyway.
Hi Angie, I love the Paula’s choice mixed with a little Elta MD, because the elta is a bit dark for me, (which I got from your recommendations) or the Lira tinted. All 3 great under makeup. Your videos take out the guesswork, so thank you much for doing these every year!
Hey Leila how are you doing dear it’s a pleasure meeting you
I mix those two also for a better match as the elta MD is too dark. The formulas blend well together
My same two regrets:)
@@kellymediabeauty there must be a design flaw. It's happened with every single tube. Oh well. It's still the best in my book!
YES!!! I thought I was the only one who experiences this issue. My bottle starts to leak when it gets to about 1/3 bottle
@@roxanneperdue1288 exactly. Lisa J Makeup has said the same. I guess I should call the company. Maybe they're unaware that this is occurring.
Thank you for letting me know! I'm hoping this is a temporary situation with it...
I agree. It looked beautiful and worked with my makeup, but my skin didn't like it.
I have to comment on your hair. Absolutely beautiful and looks more cool tone. It looks perfect.
I had melanoma as well, I also appreciate Angie, she’s helped me more than my derm.
I agree about the Mychelle pilling. Not my favorite.
I thought I was unusual since I didn't love the MyChelle either. I'll have to try the others Angie recommended.
You are not deceived…it’s as labeled
Thank you!
I was just going to say that. I can’t find it anywhere in my shade 🤦🏼♀️
I too love this sunscreen and have not been able to find it anywhere. I emailed the company and received a reply informing me that supply chain issues have affected production of the fair to light shade. They mentioned it should be back in stock this month. Keep your fingers crossed!
Thank goodness! I have one tube left, so hopefully it will be back in stock soon. Thank you for sharing this information. Have a wonderful day!😊
My two sunscreens made it on your list. 😃 I love the Aussie gold and the color science. Thanks for doing all the hard work for us!
So happy you shared about Laroche. I wore that for years and realized I was getting hyperpigmentation and it wasn’t working and I never knew why
Ever since you recommended the Australian Gold it’s has been my go to
Please do a similar video for drugstore, sunscreen, with or without a tint, price point $15-$20 for 2 fl oz
My favorite tinted sunscreen is the one from Summer Fridays. Goes on light, but doesn't dry out my dry skin and sits great under make up.
Thanks for sharing!!
Same here. Loved the look on my skin. I had a bad reaction that ruined my skin barrier for 2 months. I had never experienced anything like it.
That sounds like an awesome combo!!
Hey Rachel how are you doing
iLove your sunscreen reviews. i appreciate all the time and effort you put in for your viewers. Thank U.
i have been using Elta MD for over 10 years ❤❤love love love
Still jealous of all the people who can use that Australian Gold formula! I saw all the silicones in the ingredients and thought for sure I'd love it on my dry skin. Sadly, it turned SUPER orange within 30 minutes and pulled so much moisture out of my skin it actually hurt! It honestly looked and felt like a clay mask.💔
I know some people have circumvented this with thick moisturizers underneath, but I just don't think it's worth risking another experience like that for me.
I do know I'm not alone in this experience, so if you have very dry skin PLEASE remember to patch test before using!❤️
What have you found to use? I’ve been using elta md physical but it’s difficult for me to get hold of. 😊
I did t like it either, it is not good for dry skin. I like the Aveeno protect+hydrate spf 60 and the Supergoop unseen
Hi Angie,I love the Roche Posay Tinted sunscreen.Have used it for quite a few years.Just come back from 3 weeks in Mexico and it was fine.
I also love this sunscreen
You didn’t notice the offensive smell of the r and r?🤣
@@dtraveler3080 I don’t consider the smell of the R&R “offensive”. It smells to me like many “unscented” skin care products - sort of odd due to no fragrance masking. Perhaps yours was off.
So glad to hear I’m not alone with that Mychelle sunscreen! Kept thinking my skin felt itchy but had used it in the past without difficulty.
I love the Australian Gold tinted for summer because I have tan skin. Wintertime my all time fav is Paula’s choice tinted. I have shiny oily/dry combo
Beware!
I will never go without my elta md!! It is a wonderful sunscreen.
Angie, thanks to you, I have family members reaching out to me to ask about sunscreen! You are helping so many people with videos like these! 💓 PS I can’t find the Australian Gold in stock anywhere! Anyone have any suggestions of where to look other than Angie’s links?
Me either! I hope it’s not discontinued. I can’t afford to get the other ones.
