Your ”Hope Cottage” she-shed is awesome! You both have put lots of love into it, and it shows! May all who enter and are blessed to stay as your guests feel the peace and presence of the Lord while within its walls. It reminds me of the Shunamite woman of 2 Kings 40 who said to her husband, “Let us make a little room for the Prophet Elisha to stay in when he comes to us.” How thoughtful and hospitable! May God bless your little guest house.💕🙏 Love it!

Awe! Paula thank you for reminding all of us His Powerful Word! We had built a lil shed/ cottage! But life happened and our attention took a turn! BUT it sits empty and it would be great ! I pray all that come to stay and don’t know Jesus, would have a meeting with The King, one true meeting they WILL be forever Changed! And His peace bring Sweet rest to all the weary travelers!

As my beloved grandmother would have said, “ you have the gift of dibs and dabs”, meaning you have the ability to take something as drab as a shed and turn it into a beautiful guest house using just the dibs and dabs you have found around you! Your shed is as lovely and welcoming as any of the $1,200 a weekend bed and breakfasts my husband and I have stayed in over our years of travel! Beautifully done!

My grandma had curtains for doors. She also had an outhouse. In summertime, we did the laundry outside with a wringer-type washer and hung our clothes on the line. During the winter, grandma rolled her washer onto the back porch, where there was a hand pump sitting over the well. Every morning, the school bus stopped in front of grandma's house to take me to school. After school, I would find a small plate of vanilla wafers, peanut butter, and coffee, waiting for me on the kitchen table. Those were the days! Your she shed is sweet. So inviting and cozy.

Me too! My grandparents had no indoor plumbing, just the outhouse and my grandma pumped water at an outdoor well with a hand pump in a pail and carried it in the house to her dry sink. They had electric but no heat, just a big parlor stove to heat their farmhouse in the Catskills Mountains, upstate New York. They were the best memories and I loved going there and sleeping over. It was so different from my house . It was like going back in time.

The perfect complement to my second cup of coffee this morning... Praise the Lord and pass the biscuits! 🙌 LOVE IT!
    Top 10 favorite things...
    1. The Chiffarobe
    2. The old door for the privy partition
    3. The bed, turned out amazing!
    4. The Amazing Grace plaque (and all of the other pictures that reflect your...our... strong faith in God!)
    5. The Doily (and the sentiment of including Mama!)
    6. The shelf and everything on it, especially that darling doll! Is that Battenburg lace on the skirt?
    7. The little plant hanging from the antique scale. 😍
    8. The old quilt and pillow cases
    9. The little rocking chair
    10. ALL THE REST! 😊❤️🤗
P.S. Don't kick Danny OUT to the she shed...you should run away to it! Just think....no cooking, no cleaning, no noises. Just a quiet respite for reading, relaxing and meditating. Why should a misbehaving hubby get rewarded with all of this? 😉😊

I'm almost 69, and this brings back memories of the time I spent with my Grandparents. Sleeping under a tin roof on a cast iron bed, the old pictures on the walls, the furniture and the curtains for doors. Best memories of those days. No composting toilet, just a white 'pot' with a lid to use ONLY in the middle of the night when it was too dark to get to the outhouse. LOL This is beautiful. Thanks for the memories and I'm sure your family will make lasting memories in the Hope Cottage for years to come.

About curtains - Yes! at my great grandmothers in the TN hills, there were curtains in many areas of her home instead of doors! A string, like a yo-yo type of string, run through the curtain and tacked up on each end is what held it up. Your she-shed is soooo cute!

Loved the interior! Maybe, a front porch to sit in the summer. Could be screened in, to keep the bugs off you and out of the cottage too. It would be easier to enter Hope Cottage when it's raining; it would also, save that lovely rug from getting muddy or damp. It looks like a wool one. You do have a knack for design, I must say.

Perfect guest house. Made with love and a lot of attention to detail. Love it! I grew up with an outhouse until I was thirteen. My two sisters and I took a bath in an old metal tub brought into the kitchen. We would get in that tub altogether when young. We always spent nights with my grandparents and they had a REAL bathroom and an outhouse in the shed going to the barn. But What I remember the most is that my grandparents outhouse was always so clean with beautiful tongue and groove wood on walls, ceiling, floor and the toilet seats. A curtain at the window looking out over the beautiful flower gardens in back of house. My grandparents were extremely neat people and I have taken right after them. But can’t help it, in my genes. 😃

  • @maryohare4141
    @maryohare4141 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Lovely guest cottage! You could always find some thrifted rolls of pretty floral or striped wallpaper and put it on the upper wall and ceiling, if you wanted to. Instead of flower boxes, you could just add some tin buckets outside, drill holes for drainage, put some gravel in bottom, add dirt amd wildflower seeds...it would be pretty and look great with the tin roofs. PS...inside of guest cabin, on ceiling, you could add leftover tin. It would give off a cozy reflecting glow at night. You could put rods like bathroom area and hang pretty thrifted soft, muted rose covered bedsheets up as curtains to hide what is up in lofts.

HOPE COTTAGE 🌻🌹 is so beautiful. My grandparents had an outside toilet and my Granny would go outside with my cousin Laura and me for the potty trip for before bedtime and Granny had what they called a "slop jar" for potty needs during the night. I loved staying weeks with my grandparents at the Mossy Creek community. My grandparents house had lots of land, trees, and a creek running thru the land. It was safe for us kid to wonder through the woods and to the creek. Precious memories. They were married over 75 years. He died at age 96 y/o & Granny lived to be 91. I'm 72 years old and my growing up with my parents simple country living and the same with my grandparents and much of my family. Special love and simple life. Love everything about it! So adorable. I think it would look awesome to "whitewash"/drybrush that unfinished wood you don't want to stain dark. I think it would create the rustic look you're looking for but keep it light and blend in well with your accents and beautiful furnishings! I love wooden floors done also in this manner. Would also look great on the unfinished wooden ceiling!

Very good place for the old door. Good ideal. You and Mr. Brown have put a lot of thinking into this. God bless you as you continue with Hope Cottage.love ya

My grandparents had a thing that looked like a ‘white enamel ware, soup pot (appliance type of thingie)with a lid that they used all I can remember it being called was a ‘slop jar’ sorry for the crudeness of the name I remember I’m 71 and I was probably only 4 -6 years old at this time. My grandpa slept with what looked like a ball and cap/civil war type of hand gun under the pillow I think

Sorry” auto-correct-speller” took over, “slop jar, potty, , , lots of other names were used for this convenience that was put on the floor beside the bed at night only. Along with this modern convenience we had a role of toilet paper.

Adorable.. I could spend a few days there and be really comfortable and refreshed when I left. Decor is perfect. I remember back in our early days husbands dad built something similar at his home and Hubby and I would stay in it when we visited them. PaPa dubbed it the honey moon suite. Beautiful precious memories. ♥♥

Lori, I am heartened by the privilege of going inside of your Hope Cottage through the magic of your excellent video. I think that you and Danny are unusually gifted in the arts, crafts and trade skills. I have gotten so much encouragement, comfort and hope from visiting with and leaning from you during these difficult times. Your recipes, gardening, and stories take me right back to my grandparents' homestead in southwest Virginia way back in the day. Thank you for so much for sharing your lives. Love, Carol

I don't know how he doesn't weigh a ton with all of her amazing cooking. I love this channel. Hope is the word that my daughter got a tattoo of on her wrist and my daughter in law named her daughter when I was diagnosed with late stage breast cancer. It's absolutely beautiful! I live in a 30 ft one of these with a small porch and I've had my fill of living in one of these. It's perfect for what they are using it for. Much love from Kentucky!!!

I think Miss Lori has made it very clear that she needs this for storage as much as she also needs a place for guests, so turning the temporarily unused loft into a place for children to sleep would defeat the
purpose. And in reality how often would the loft be used by children. It is so quaint and peaceful almost like a little fairy cottage. The work that Mr. Brown has put into it really shows his creative style and unique way of doing things.
