Thank you so much. Our family farm has been around since 1851 and we are lucky enough to have our son willing to continue into the 6th generation of a family legacy.
I absolutely loved everything you bought at the antique store. I’m 69 years old and my mother used to tell me I should have been born 100 years earlier 🤣. She never understood my love of “old” stuff.
Learning that people are going into that store because of you, is a real warm fuzzy! Especially when it helps that family so much.

Miss Lori, I have had chronic stomach acid problems for many decades. When I took my Daddy bach to see all his childhood places before he passed, we stopped in Lancaster, PA. It was July 4th weekend and I had a horrible infection on shin that swelled my whole foot and smelled awful. No medical was opened. An Amish man took me home to see his wife as I was in bad shape. She put a bread poultice on this wound, giving me instructions on how to care for it. As we chatted about home remedies and forgotten wisdom, I asked her what she did for chronic dyspepsia. She told me that a piece of sugared ginger settled most problems and could be repeated as needed. Long story, but I use that as needed with great results.
My mother used to put bread poultice on infected wounds on us. I love using the remedies from years gone by.
A neighbor that was elderly wound had me taste something kind of mustard colored. It was bitter & I asked what this was. He replied it was golden seal. Then he told me a story about his friend that had terrible stomach problems & he gave him golden seal and said he never had problems again. (This was his story, not mine)
The Amish use dried papaya for dyspepsia too, my father in law swore by it. Just eat a few small cubes before and after every meal. (that's how they come at the Mennonite store by my MIL's house in PA)

Crystallized ginger is the best remedy for diarrhea I have ever known…you have to eat a handful every 2 hours until it stops but I have never had to take it more than twice myself nor my husband of 40 years and our four sons and their wives and our grandchildren nor anyone of have ever cared for come to think of it. . I learned about it years ago while studying herbalism and midwifery. Trouble is that if you eat too much and you don’t have diarrhea you can get seriously constipated. The little thread fibers absorb the liquid in the bowels.
Oh that's amazing! We have just one rebel Mennonite family in our area, the rest are Amish. How was your shin after the treatment? I think nerves have a lot to do with tummy, disgestion and bowel problems, which I have had since birth .. two weeks in the hospital after birth and then many trips after .. hope you are well now, Bless
When I was little (75 years ago) families would have their babies first pair of shoes 'preserved' in bronze. They were a very shiny gold color and heavy and used on a desk to hold things. Not sure what your pair were treated with but they are cute! Today, we don't save a long time to buy shoes and just throw or recycle them. We live in the disposable age. I saved my kids baby booties and use them to decorate for Christmas on a little tree, or banner. I know a lady that saved her son' wooden trains, trucks, stuffed teddy bears, and finally made a wonderful Christmas wreath to put them onto. It was the 'star attraction' .
I have mine and my brothers from the 1960's!
I have my baby shoes that my Mama bronzed- just don't know if anyone else does that anymore- But they make me think of Mom- God rest her soul she was a gem! The best cook around my parts. Mama made enough cookies to feed the entire school, church and extended family! Miss her terrible! Thank you Miss Lori!

After watching this video, my husband and I went to our closest Mennonite bulk store. I picked up the hickory smoked salt for $2.16 for a little over 1/2 lb. I saw a 50 lb. bag of white sugar for $55.95. Now sure how that compares to what you bought. I grew up in a family owned grocery store. My parents opened it in 1948 and my mother closed it in 1979 when she retired. All 5 kids worked bagging potatoes, putting bulk eggs in cartons, weighing dried beans and slicing meat. We sold flour in the pretty cloth sacks and I remember my Mom taking women into the basement to pick out the one they wanted. At Christmas time, we stayed after closing sacking up candy such as ribbon candy, peanut brittle, coconut mounds and hard mix. So many great memories! On a funny note: we had a little old lady who always wanted a dime's worth of salt pork and a nickels worth of pinto beans. And sometimes 1 roll of toilet paper. Love your channel!

I am in PA and the county I live in has multiple Mennonite grocery stores. The packaging of their bulk goods is identical to what you bought. Seeing it makes me think it's time for a shopping trip.
My grandmother born in 1895 had those very heavy blue bowls. She used them for mixing, harvesting and washing clothes (by hand of course),and she also used them as a dishpan to wash her dishes. I believe she bathed her babies in them as well. (she had 13).I have the matching tea cup to your little plate with the peaches on it. My mother collected teacups and matching saucers. I love the enamel bowls. They are very durable and do not scratch easily. I have some I use for camping because they can go on the heat and easy to clean. At home I have a few I use, turkey roaster, cake pan, and a small pan. My mother had a pan that she always used to boil tea leaves (it's hard to find loose tea now) made the best tea (hmmm i wonder what happened to that pan?). Please do not use the Teflon cancer coated pans.
I have my baby shoes that my mom had bronzed
I have my babyy shoes, from the 1940’s, black patent high tops, I used one shoe on my sewing table. I made a little pincushion with pillow stuffing and pretty cloth and tucked it into the top. I just loved this video, especially the pans and pretty saucers. when the cups break, those saucers are too pretty not to find a use for them. I hadn’t thought of a soap dish.
Growing up with very little money, shopping was always a special event. My sisters & I loved to show each other the things we bought. I still enjoy seeing & hearing about what other people find interesting to buy. I always learn something useful.

So nice to see flea market finds and hear about the Mennonite store.Here in Southern Cal,we rarely see any old jars and china,etc (most places pretty new) at yard sales and the smaller groceries we have feature fresh Indian, Middle Eastern, Persian, Armenian,Korean, Chinese, Mexican cuisine and more .I love trying new foods and recipes so I support these mom and pops,who provide wonderful selections from all over the world.I do love a lot about the south.It would be nice to go there for a drive on a nice fall day with foliage, flea markets, old mom and pop stores!
There's always loose leftover sugar in the candied ginger bag; I save it in a separate sugar bowl, with a few small pieces of ginger, to use in my tea.

I LOVED this story. I try and send people to the mennonite store vs our big box stores. We have a contract on a house- my selling point was it is closer to the mennonites than a Walmart!

I buy from little family owned grocery stores as well ,our local amish store has wonderful things... I can't wait for the farmers to open up with all their home grown goodies 💜😊🙏
Hubby and I stop at a Mennonite bakery and farm when we come home from my bi-monthly doctors appointment which is 2 hours away from home. He usually buys a German Chocolate cake with 3 layers and pecan caramel icing for $18.98 and I buy bulk grains and goodies to enjoy eating on our way home. The elderly man that operates “The Wagon Barn” sounds just like Mr Irving!

It's always such a treat to watch your videos! It makes me miss my country childhood and gives me inspiration to finally move out of the city and back to the land, now that I'm retired. I expect that even the country has changed from what I remember over sixty years ago, but seeing nice folks like you gives me hope that a man with a good heart and clear mind can still find peace in the country life.
Your flea market oil can find reminded me of all the old sounds that were commonplace when I was young, and have all but disappeared: like the thick percussion sound of that oil can being used, or the solid gears turning inside an old dial phone, the coffee hitting the top of the percolator lid as it cooks, batter in a crock bowl, the sound of a metal chimney flue, cicadas in the summer and that old porch swing, swinging a bit too far backwards and hitting the house. ("Sorry, Mom!")

Thank you for sharing this video with us. I love old things and the history behind each one. I have several "precious gems" that were my grandparents which were handed down to me by my parents and I love the sweet memories of each one.

Hi Miss Lori, your splatter ware brought back memories. I'm in my 70s now, but mom had a set just like them. She used the big one as a dish pan and when canning, the small one would be waiting outside with warm water and a chunk of lye soap to lather up when daddy and his shadow came in from the fields or barn to eat. The matching wash pan, also with warm water, was for rinsing. The hotter the day the cooler the water. There were several other pieces too, a small bowl she put fresh churned butter in The only other one I remember exactly was an oval one she said was my bath tub as a baby. It sounds a little gross now, but I only remember her using it when she picked veggies and canned. All sold at the auction after my dad died. I was 6, but at least we got to keep the farm.

I have a lot of special memories of growing up on the farm, some happy and some not so much! I miss the old time neighbors. They were always helping each other and they and my brothers-in-law kept our farm running and our cows milked for 9 months when my dad was dying. It's was just being neighbors back then. Now neighbors drive by and most don't even return a friendly wave. God bless you and yours!

We do have a Mennonite community close to us, in Vanceboro. HUGE, fabulous store with everything from bird seed to live chicks to boots to hand cranked kitchen items. and a small restaurant that is packed ALL THE TIME. Small bakery and spice/herb section. It is called Yoders. Love to visit. The pancakes with homemade honey butter call my name!!

OMGoodness seeing those gummies reminded me of my mom making my kids “worms in dirt” when they were young. Now 34 & 37. It was chocolate pudding in a clear plastic cup with Oreos crumbled on top and gummies in it and crawling out of it. They loved it! Loved the vintage finds! I absolutely love thrifting, upcycling, and repurposing. Those saucers would look so cute stuck in the herbs and flowers of your potager garden.

This was a fun video Miss Lori. The crystallized ginger with a cup of tea is a nice substitute for a high calorie dessert. The flax in granola bars makes them a healthy snack. I also add chia seeds to mine.. I recently found a recipe online that had oats, a cup of rice crispness (although you could leave it out it gave the bars a nice crunch) honey, a little brown sugar, a small amount of butter, toasted walnuts almonds and coconut, and dried fruit of any kind. Best granola recipe I ever made. Those baby shoes would look cute with a small plant or fresh flowers. I so enjoy you and PA Brown.
Love this video as well as all of them. Brings back so many memories visiting my family in Harrison Arkansas when I was young. Miss all that have passed. I still shop mom and pop places. Not a fan of the big box stores. My husband and I travel a lot camping from state to state. I always have to go into the little store to lookie loo . I don't buy much anymore . I turned 70 this year and no body wants the old things like we do, so Ill just enjoy what I have and not worry about where it will end up when Im gone. Blessings to you and Mr Brown.

I just love going to the Amish store here in Yoder, Kansas. They have amazing baked goods, a restaurant that is known for not only the delicious food but also the made from scratch pies every day. They have a little second-hand store, furniture store, and meat market.
The splatter wear you found for $20 a piece is an absolute treasure. Goodness, I love enamel wear.

The oil can reminds me of one we found in the basement when going through my dear Daddy's things when he passed away. I love all the older things too. Candied ginger tastes so good! I make tea from it sometimes. It's also good for tummy ailments and indigestion. I never knew popcorn could be ground up to make cornbread. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Love the haul! Those are real baby shoes that have been bronzed. My mother has a set of my shoes that look just the same. It was common to bronze baby shoes in the 40s and 50s and keep them as keepsakes of your baby. So much great food and treasures!

Smith Arkansas, my grandma used to take me to mom and pop stores, one of my favorites was the ,"Apple Dumplin Farm" in the Ozarks, she bought me my first ceramic bell to start my collection, now I have over a hundred! I grew up in Alabama. My grandparents lived in West Central Alabama. There was a group of Mennonites nearby. My grandmother's side of the family, we're in Anabaptist, similar to Mennonites.
My grandparents had a small grocery store and my grandmother always loved when they came by. She would also visit them, especially for baked goods.
I now live in South Florida and there's a group of Anabaptist here. Their cinnamon buns are to die for. I wasn't going to tell that part of the story until I saw what you bought for your grandchildren. Those marshmallow peanuts will last after the Fourth World War. Haha. They are awful, but I loved them as a kid. I miss my grandparents. 🙏

How fun! I shared this video cause I loved you showing us all the good finds you got on your shopping trip. Aren't those bronzed baby shoes? People used to preserve baby shoes that way as a memento of their child's little tiny feet. They don't look like bronzed but they seem as heavy as if they were. Good find, Miss Lori. Yes, I remember those jars. My 88 year old Mom still has some. My husband and I plan to visit a Mennonite store we used to go to quite frequently when it was about an hour and half away. It's moved but is still within reasonable driving distance and I can't wait to go. I have missed it so much. Blessings Lori and Danny. We love you so much. xoxTX

God Bless You for supporting our Pioneer Sugar made from Sugar Beets. We have a Pioneer Sugar Factory in my hometown in the Thumb of Michigan. My husband farms and no longer grows sugar beets but he does haul beets for our neighbors when he gets his farming finished. Also, we have a Mennonite store 30 miles away that we shop at. Very friendly people and it’s always such a pleasure to go there. Our store also sells Walnut Creek products, I love their buttermilk. I like to get my King Arthur Flour there. They also have their own meat processing so the meat is always fresh. The chicken actually taste like the chickens that we used to grow. Lol. Here I go jawing on and on. God Bless you All!
If you chop up the crystallized ginger you can put it in your ginger snaps or molasses cookies. When I have a chest cold or a cough I practically live on that and horehound drops.
Those enamel basins remind me of the ones my grandmother had. One in the bathhouse and one in the kitchen for a quick spit bath when it was too cold to bathe in the lake.

I'm from SE Michigan farming community. Thank you for supporting Michigan Farmers. The farmers own pioneer sugar. It's a co-op. If a person is allergic to cane sugar. Beat sugar is a good sugar to try. I'm allegeric to cane sugar & I have no issues with beat sugar.

Thanks for sharing Miss Lori, you put me in mind of my sweet mom, I lost her in 2012. She would always look for deals like your Brownie Brittle, she would always buy several and then tell me " they were going fast" thats because she was buying them! Thanks for letting me relive that memory.

Here in northern Indiana we call those stores "Amish Stores" because that is one way they provide for their families. You can buy Amish hats and bonnets and very intricate clocks and all sorts of unique things in there.

The turkey platter is marvelous-so joyful. The jars brought back a memory for me, my mother had the same exact jars. I wish I lived closer, I'd love to visit the Mennonite store. God bless
Ms Lori I love y’all. So many great ideas. I grew up in Tennessee and your life style reminds me of so many things my grandmother and family did and it brings me such happy memories. The spiral noodles from the Mennonite store is wonderful. They are used in one of our favorite summer meals. You will need fresh broccoli florets, tomatoes (peeled and diced) fresh corn cut off the Cobb @ 1 cup. Olive oil, crushed garlic, garlic salt, and 1-1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese shredded.
Boil large pot of salted water. When it boils add spiral noodles boil about 5 minutes, then add broccoli and corn and cook 3-5 more minutes. Drain and in empty pot add @ 1/2 c olive oil and crushed garlic do not burn. Put noodles, broccoli and corn back in pot and toss to coat. Add garlic salt to taste, tomatoes and cheddar cheese. Serve hot or cold. Wonderful to have when corn and tomatoes are coming in.
