My mamaw made this all the time, she passed when i was 3 & i am 47 now. Well people still talk about what a good cook she was. I made this pie for my dad a few years ago for Thanksgiving. He looked at me & said "it's like momma is still here" that felt so good.

@@Dindasayswhynot Oh yeah you get really hot out there for long stretches of time. I'm up by Lake Berryessa in Napa in the mountains and for about 2-4 weeks a year we peak between 110-118.
Being in the mountains we get micro climates and so me and my neighbors here rely on our thermometers as the local weather tower is always several degrees off from where we are.
But, now with these fires every year we also live off of our generator for long stretches in that heat. Last year we had the fire on our street and almost half the homes out here burned and had no power for a month and a half. The fire has destroyed our power lines. Even though they are restored they still shut off our power often during fire season (which we're in now, just had a fire up the road last week).
Our generator cannot handle the AC unit (we have a Trane). So I think maybe a nice small mini split in one room will help so much if we can run the generator off that.

I haven't watched Ms. Lori yet. I usually skim through the comments first. I just hope and pray you meet one another in Heaven. I gave birth at 14 and even if Roe vs Wade made abortion legal, I would have refused to have one. I was raped and could have asked for one because incest and rape were two exceptions. I tried to find my daughter when she was 21 to tell her I would have kept her if my parents were willing to help me out but they wanted me to graduate HS. I didn't give her up for adoption because I didn't want her-I loved her despite the circumstances. When they did locate her she didn't even know she was adopted which made me feel bad because I hope I didn't mess up her life by revealing it. That was close to 30 years ago and she hasn't tried to contact me. I wasn't a Christian at the time but I did pray for her and on her birthday I would release a balloon in her honor, kind of hoping it would find it's way to her. Silly I know but I wanted to celebrate her birth some way, some how. The 70's were a very different time for unwed teens. They offered me the choice to put her in a foster home until I graduated, got a job and would have to prove I could take care of her. That would be at least 4 years and I wanted her in a home, bonding to a family, not tossed about "the system". I went to school with some foster kids and they were very unruly or wanted to clown around for attention. I think they were messed up from not having a stable life. There was a very good book written about before Roe vs. Wade when girls were sent away. I could relate to so much in that book even though I wasn't sent away. The Girls Who Went Away: The hidden history of women who surrendered children for adoption in the decades before Roe vs. Wade by Ann Fessler. Have to go watch the video. Take care

With the gray cabinets, the chop block counter, the brick look back, I think it is pretty like it is. Another texture/color might be a little much. You could prop it in place to check out the look before you permanently placed it. It could be beautiful, but, I’d do an area temporarily first. Your story about your mom touched my heart. Oh! What a Treasure to have your Mother’s voice recorded! I know it upsets you to listen to it but you just have to at times. It touches my heart to see my Mother’s hand writing. I know she would not want to upset you, so just remember how fortunate you are to have this and know that you will be able to hear the “real” her forever in eternity. Do what you think Is best, the people who make mistakes are the ones out there trying to get something accomplished.None of us are perfect. My husband had Alzheimer’s and I took care of him fir 5 and 1/2 years until his care required more than I could give. But we hen he had to go to a nursing facility, I went every day to be assured that he was cared for. I would do every bit of it again. Just stay true to yourself and know there are people who truly understand.

Now up here she isn't going to have all those bills anD Medicaid I don't believe will accept her, so what are we to do??????? I need help and my husband is retired and we live on a very small retirement check, and I'm getting ready to send him back to work to keep our head above water. this is not the retirement we planned for 33 years, HELP!!!!! Another winner. So much nostalgia. So much love. Egg custard pies are delicious. My grandmother had to make them regularly for my grandfather and her large family.
You mother is waiting for you in Heaven. It will be a great day of rejoicing and celebrating.
The cookbook looked so enticing that I ordered it from eBay.

Another classic pie from my childhood that I do not hear about anymore; you have covered butterscotch, but pies such as chess and gooseberry have dropped off the radar. My dad always enjoyed mincemeat at Thanksgiving, however he was pretty much on his own on that one. I love the nostalgia of reliving some of these old and pretty much extinct pie recipes; thank you!!😊

I painted an old chest of drawers. It kinda looks like dark red-black cherry this is how I did that:
    Prime
Bright red until until good coverage and throughly dry then I:
Mixed black craft paint those little bottles with glaze (I didn’t even use much of that little bottle) And painted over the red until I got the desired look:
When that was throughly dry then I applied a clear protective coat.
If you have any extra tin just experiment. I have no doubt that whatever you and Mr Brown decide to do it will turn out lovely. Can’t wait to see it! ♥️♥️♥️

I love your kitchen remodel! I like your idea of the backsplash because I wouldn't like the shine either, and I think the barn red would look wonderful. I saw on the Pioneer Woman show when they were remodeling the Merchantile Bldg that they found a design like your tin in the ceiling of that old building. They cleaned those tiles up and kept them to put back.

I missed Daddy after he died. My mother I grew up with her in the house, but I never really knew her. She wasn't trying to have a relationship with me. I was her late life baby that came along and was just in her way of doing what she wanted to do.

You likely won't believe me, but when we remodeled this old farm house kitchen, I had my stove placed in an island, similar to yours. I opted for 12'x18' tiles so they would take the heat around the stove. But, MOST surprising is, we used yellow pine as counter all around the walls of the rest of the kitchen. We only have lower cabinets as my husband built shelves on the upper walls to match the wooden counter tops. Just lovely, to me. The kitchen was designed for me, and my husband had to approve, however. We had only ONE discrepency, but he won, and prepared it like he wanted. I am so thankful for my kitchen, as I know you are yours. I have matching shelves about 1 foot down from the ceiling lining the kitchen walls, and I place many of my 'old' knickknacks, gifts, etc. on them. I KNOW you really love and enjoy your new kitchen. My 'new' kitchen happened about 15 years ago! I do little cooking anymore, but I still really enjoy the room. I am so proud for you.

I finally realized it meant size of a nickel or size of a dime. They just measured it out on their palms. 😊

When you talked about Proverbs 31, I had written my mom’s eulogy and delivered it during her service in 2003. I ended with that scripture. I miss my mom and I know you have always longed for that relationship. My husband was touched by your thoughts about your mom. We have been blessed to have known our families, however I believe the Almighty has filled a large gap for you. You remind me of a beloved Aunt who made awesome food, on the other hand my mother was more like Mr. Brown. She left us after Dad died and went off on her great adventure. She had a boat and fished the St. John’s River and Lake Monroe in Florida until she developed a brain tumor. We bought her home with us and enjoyed the last 16 months together. She stayed here in the home place with me and my siblings coming and going. I love you both, and pray blessings over you and your home. God willing we will meet in heaven one day. Hopefully, you can visit with your mom.
