Back in the 80s, we “pegged’ our jeans which is essentially what you refer to as pin rolling. We also did this weird thing with numerous safety pins to narrow the silhouette of our jeans.
Fantastic video, definitely going to start using the Japanese Cuff for some 32 inseam selvedge denim I have (I'm 5'6 as well) I've gotta ask where are those trousers from, the first pair shown for "Permanent Cuff" at 1:55? Thanks in advance
My attempts at making cuffs always end up being sloppy, and eventual undo themselves. You'd think someone would come up with some like plastic or metal 'invisible' cuff stay.
Off that back of this video/thumbnail, could you show us the correct cuffing protocol for our jeans/pants please? I'm never sure if I cuff to much or to little or if I'm even doing it right when I do it. Thanks 👍
I left my jeans a bit longer the same as you, but I wear them loose with white sneakers 90s style and only cuff them when wearing boots, then I do Japanese cuff. otherwise mini cuff only.
How are you're AE suede boots so much darker than the stock picture on the website link you provided. Did you add more oils to them to make it darker? I am looking to purchase one but I like the look on your video (almost black looking in some angles) but online they look kinda bright for a pair of olive suede boots.
Man been wearing selvedge for like over a decade, is it bad I didn't know about the J cuff? hahaha excited to try this out with a pair I haven't gotten hemmed yet!
Man I was thinking about buying those boots he's wearing but soon as I looked at the price I backed out haha love those suede brown boots though one day
Need a video for all year warm weather climatic conditions, since layering is out of question most times, I want to keep outfits interesting without adding too much layers.
Does cuffing work with athletic fit jeans? Every time I attempt to cuff my jeans and chinos it always ends looking incredibly sloppy and never stays up.
Yeah it’s great for athletic fit jeans! Sometimes if your jeans have a lot of taper below the knee, anything more than a single cuff will lead to some weird wrinkling, so try the turn up or a short double cuff.
Hey brock (hope I spelled it right). I’ve been trying to wear the outfits that you’re wearing on most of your videos because they really look good and very stylish. I recently bought the tribeca (navy) from Peter manning size 1. We have the same height and built but I find the jacket a bit short and tight. I’m not so sure if It’ll still look nice on me if I’ll go with size 2? What size is your olive Tribeca in this video? Also, I’m planning to buy the Carnegie coat (tan) which you also have. I wonder what size is it? Hope to hear from you soon.
My tribeca is size 1 and definitely not tight. The Carnegie is very boxy on me (I had to get it tailored). The original model was better IMO. I don’t actually wear mine very often anymore.
@@BrockMcGoff well it’s good to know yours is size 1 as well. Although I might go for size 3 on the Carnegie as it’ll serve like a raincoat during rainy days here in Alberta, Canada. Looking forward to see more new contents from your channel on how to look good and stay stylish. Kudos! Happy Easter!
@@5inCanon66 nice, hope you like it! I used to wear a lot more PM stuff but I’ve noticed their more recent versions/items don’t fit as well, and there have been some quality issues with knits (tees, henleys). Still a good brand for some things though.
Problem we have in my country is that stores will only make/import pants with a leg length of 32 inches. Nothing else, nothing more. And it's actually a dumb commercial decision because we Peruvians are not particularly tall people, so everybody around here walks with an accordion of fabric above their ankles. Of course we can always take them to a tailor but it's a pain to do it every time. That's why I buy my pants from Amazon whenever I can.
This is an entirely new concept to me. I can kind of understand the style, but don't get why you wouldn't just stitch or hem them permanently. - Shoe variety is, a choice, I guess. For me, I just hem my pants to length myself after a few washes and be done with it.
I dont know that its called japanese cuff, i usually call it faux cuff. Maybe its called japanese cuff because a lot of quality selvedge denim is made in japan.
Don't think that I ever wear my jeans uncuffed 😅 Always a simple small cuff as the length already is tailored. Personally, I'm not a fan of the rolled cuff, always looks a bit off to me. I think it's a good hack if you haven't taken your pants to the tailor, but (IMHO) always looks better tailored and cuffed "normally".
I don't know what it is about cuffs with jeans but I just don't like them. It just looks like you're trying to fix jeans that are too long that you should really go to a tailor for.
I'm not saying you should wear your pants too long and theyre swallowing your shoes, but I don't think there's anything less manly than cuffing your pants to the point that they don't even touch your shoes. Makes me think of woman's Capri pants
Thank you for doing these videos, you're one of the best channels I've found on TH-cam when it comes to practical fashion advice for a guy in his 30s.
Glad you like them!
Perfect timing! I was just thinking this
Sweet!
Yet another unique, concise and helpful video from the Modest Man. I always appreciate the content you post. Thank you!
When did he change the channel name from The Modest Man to just his name? And why did he change it?

love the pin roll
Needed to take 6 inches off my jeans, the Japanese cuff works! Thanks Brock!
The old "tight roll" as we called it in the 80s. Nice video.
Didn’t know it’s called Japanese cuff until now, which happened to be my favorite style on my selvedge jeans. Thanks.

Noooo! Please no more peg leg cuffing.
Oooh yes, the "heavy metal guy" narrowing technique hahaha, my older brothers used to do that all the time.

I’ve thought about making that product actually 🤔
@@BrockMcGoff yes please
safety pins 😊
or may be use a small tap inside
Tip. Start very tight around your ankle and will stay in thru anything.
Amazing video! I only knew two ways. The japanese cuff looks cool!
its the best for jeans that are way too long
Thanks a lot for the idea. Really wanted some tips to cuff my pants
Also Brock, the Pin Roll was VERY Popular in 1989 Brooklyn for Z. Cavaricci Pants 😀

I love every time this man says “ Trousers “ ❤❤❤

I’m a size a 46/34. It’s tough to find nice jeans in that size. Any suggestions?
I am ready for some "Roll Up Action" here !
Excellent as always
Thank you 🙏

Cuffing makes more sense if your tailor cannot preserve original hem ... Good Work Man ...
Yup, always a good idea to keep the original hem if possible!
Thank you for sharing
Thanks ❤
Dope video! I really enjoyed it. You should do a ankle pants 101.
Love those dark-brownish suede military boots at 5:31. Especially the serrated outsoles. Where are they from?
Hello, whats the size of you allen boots?
Nice n to the point . No BS. Thanks mate 👍
What boots are you wearing @5:15 ? They look really good.
Feeling those socks in Tip 2, minimal but also fun.
Yup those are some of my favorites!
What brand is that selvedge denim you are wearing? Love that Japanese cuff! Great content!🙌

Awsome! Was wondering what brand those chelsea boots are?
My main issue with cuffing my jeans (I guess I do the double cuff) is that the cuff grows wider throughout the day. Total pet peeve of mine!
I found cutting my legs off helps
What are the loafer/boat shoe? Didn't see them in the description or comments.
Those are LLBean camp mocs 👌🏼
Do you find the Allen Edmonds olive boots true to size?
Yes!
Hey Brock, I really like your sweater in this video. Would you be willing to share where you got it?
Thanks! It’s from Acne Studios via Farfetch.

Pin roll 100% tip. The tighter you start around your ankle the better it will stay. Always start on the inside going foward to back.
My jeans are wayyy too long and it was driving me NUTS! the Japanese cuff is perfection
Could you do one on how to cuff your t shirt sleeves like James Dean? Lol
Yup as 5'6" guy... I get it.
Same.
Man I wish I picked up those Loden Suede Higgins Mills during that sale recently. Is that when you go them?
I got them a few months ago but that was an excellent sale!
Nice watch 😉
From sleeve cuffing to pants cuffing lol!
I guess it’s cuffing season 😂

Can you do a episode for v neck or quarter zip sweaters?
