4th gens are like a limo compared to 3rd gens. The interior is miles ahead, and the ride is much better. Backseat space in the 4th gen is very generous. One thing I've noticed is my 2005 gets MUCH better fuel economy than my fathers 4th gen. Ive gotten the worst 18 mpg driving like a madman on the highway. His best is only 14.
Actually I really like them, I have a 2016 Ram 2500 Tradesman edition 4x4, being my daily driver it rides pretty good and I live how big the interior is.
I have a 2016 Laramie and it doesn't have any Aux switches where this one does. It instead has controls for the heated/cooled seats and steering wheel. Also, why would anyone hate the exhaust brake? Its awesome!
At 6:00 I'm going to assume you called it a 4th, not a FORD! Beside that, I went from a '09 to this model '16, and I love it. Of course I stepped up from SXT to this Laramie, but it's an awesome truck in its own right. Cat went bad at 3k, wiped out the DPF, but it was under warranty. 12k later, no problems. Knock on wood. I get compliments on the appearance all the time and everywhere. On the road, in the driveway when I'm washing it. It's a nice perk. The exhaust brake in the 09 seemed more aggressive. The 16 seems closer to the 09 in tow mode. I'm not sure if its programming as much as the axle ratio that keeps the RPMs lower on the 16 (3.73 in my 09), which takes the turbo brake out of effective range.
I have both a '14 2500 and a '14 3500 and I would get the 3500 with Aisin. The exhaust break is a must have if you tow in the mountains. If you run in the tow haul mode, it will hold the gear a bit longer and avoids the lugging a bit.
That's one of the best trucks on the market. That one has the Black Sport Group Package. There's a different one Called the Night Edition. Worth every penny. Especially with dealers knocking off $20,000 or more for holiday specials and year end clear out. Can't even compare it to one that's 8 or 9 years old. Stock wheels are butt ugly. Take the $20K discount and Once a 6" lift is put in there with some Fox shocks, Fuel rims with 37" Toyos wrapped around em, some aftermarket bumpers with Rigid Industries light bar, then you have one of the meanest, kick ass beasts on the market.. Could've tromped on it and showed the actual acceleration on those back roads grandpa. And FYI, it's called an 8.4" "touchscreen" not a "monitor"If you're that worried about the price, you can't afford it. Stick with what u got.
With normal towing and maintenance the 68rfe is a fine transmission. If you are pushing the truck to it's limits and beyond without regular maintenance, maybe not. We have a 17 with 250k on it pulling campers almost every day. No problem.
I dig it. I've been wanting a 4th gen for so long... But seeing this and your opinion... I'll wait and see what Cummins says about their IL9 predicted to be released in 2021. haha
Jared Ostler yes! That one is like a car inside! I got the tradesmen addition, and that is a optional seat in mine. Still get a lot of compliments when people get inside.
This has the lever shifter? I thought for sure they switched to dial. Father has a 2016 1500 and although its a good truck that dial thing is a huge turn off. I also hate/love how the key fob works. You can leave your truck running which is great but a lot of times when the key fob leaves the vehicle you can still drive it, can't start it up again though. I have a 12 and thought that was the best year but this video is changing my mind.
I'd say if yours was stock and high miles and starting to have issues, then maybe getting the newer truck would be an easier decision. Since yours is modified and maintained and it does everything you need it to, it only has a few less creature comforts than the new truck which I'm sure aren't necessities, I don't think I'd rush into a new truck yet. The added bonus you said is your 2008 is paid for. I am a huge fan of no truck payments. Also if Dodge/Ram comes out with a new style soon then the price on 4th gens will come down a bit making them an even better value on the used market.
Test drove a 2017 Super Duty and a 2017 Ram 2500 and let me say the difference between the trucks is night and day. The Ram is a solid truck but it just felt so sluggish and the interior is not on par with the Ford either. The Super duty accelerated so easily and was so easy to drive with the adaptive steering. Maybe you should wait a year to see what problems the super duty has and get it cheaper too. Not being a fan boy here at all, Im not brand loyal or anything but test drive one for yourself and you'll say WOW
GREG_ALBERALLA That is a good looking truck there though and its piece of mind with the Cummins. Ford could have a bulletproof motor but theres still more piece of mind with a cummins. If ram ever loses the cummins contract its game over for them
Kenneth Barbee I have the 16 3500 with Aisin trans, I agree it's sluggish of the line. ram cuts power til 3rd gear to save components, but when you tow it dies not feel much different!
nick angwin You should think of fully deleting your truck and tuning it, you wont be saying it dies after that! These trucks are detuned for emissions so at low boost you won't be getting any fuel which is where these trucks make torque!!
I like my 2015 but you can't get the sound out of it like I could my 2012? The 2012 was loud after parts fell off but my 2015 just isn't the same! Do you know how to get more diesel sound out off the newer trucks with out doing a second gen swap? If so please let me know! Thanks
Ya I am really looking forward to the new power stroke and Duramax motor platforms. They will make really good power with just basic modifications for sure. I am familiar with cummins but I like 6.7 power stroke and new duramax platforms as well.
Ya I'm not sure, I can only guess that they'll make brackets to extend the factory stuff. But could also mess with how it's all integrated to the truck computer. Who knows lol
Honestly all I'd do to this truck is take it to Mexico so some parts can fall off maybe do a lift kit 4 to 6 pro comp. Paint and Color match everything a nice red leave the black badging that would be tits.
MrErichonda30 the only other option I see for them is to put the fpt 6.7 that fiet uses in there case wheel loaders. Practically the same engine as a b series cummins engine. Only thing is that cummins badge sells a lot of trucks for ram
MrErichonda30 I get that but if you look up on cummins and cummins related websites they all say that the 6.7 cummins won't be in it past 2019. If that's true the Cat would be the replacement from what I've read
You sound like my wife about the heated steering wheel, she thinks that is the great feature. Truck is built to pull not to make all the girlie types happy.
JDH why the Aisin? It's a significant upcharge and the rfe has a ton of aftermarket where the aisin does not. Sure the aisin might be a stronger trans but if you put the 2 plus thousand in the rfe it would be just as if not stronger.
My understanding is that the Aisin is the way to go espically if you tow. The dip-stick for the Aisin is on the drivers side which is how you know. Also my experience is that dodge ram jeeps have all been know to have the trans as the weak point. Most prople I know that have had trans issues were dodge/ram. If it was so good why have a better option. I drive a 16 Powerstroke but I follow all the the diesel trucks. My next might be the Cummins with Aisin 4dr longbed. As pwalston25 said its only in the 3500 which I did not know.
you cant pull the full 31,000 lbs unless u have the aisen, so your onpy rated too tow 18,000 and rebuilding a brand new transmission is pointless you might as well fork out the other money and buy the aisin
LOL That's not a New one look at the tires there damn near bald(1:19 you can see how bald tire is) and yes I have a 2016 too as you can see in my thumb nail pic. and I bought it new for 56k then I took it to Tire shop and Decked it out and took it up off the ground :) So far love the truck but only get in town 12 to 14 mpg--- 18-21 Hwy But if you can deck them out they look sick...
Popeye I don't think he's considering a 45k dollar truck to go off roading. Can your 66 haul 5 people? Tow 15k pounds? Be reliable? Sure your 66 is nice but how can you even argue that the 66 is better
4th gens are like a limo compared to 3rd gens.

0:41 guy to the left *Oh god hes making another fucking video* Lol!
i had a 09 Sierra for 3 years and made the switch to 2012 ram sport and never regret that decision.
I have a 2016 Laramie and it doesn't have any Aux switches where this one does. It instead has controls for the heated/cooled seats and steering wheel. Also, why would anyone hate the exhaust brake? Its awesome!
Robert Curtis the aux switches are actually an option if u get aux switches then heated/cooled sears are just accessed in the display
At 6:00 I'm going to assume you called it a 4th, not a FORD! Beside that, I went from a '09 to this model '16, and I love it. Great review man, makes me want one!
Thanks man! The urge to get one is real lol
If you do decide on a 4th gen for a tow rig and want an automatic I would definitely go with the Aisin trans, Way better suited for towing.
ParoDoXz just got done watching your videos 😂

Beautiful truck! I just bought a 2017 very happy with it!!

I pick up my 14 3500 srw Saturday! Stoked.
good video. I've got a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 6spd manual and love it it's got the engine break and trailer breaks from factory
This is called the sport appearance package
Ram is great I have one. Its not a Dodge just try to find Dodge on truck anywhere. I love the Ram and its my pick.
The area you were driving is beautiful. Thanks for the video
I dig it. I've been wanting a 4th gen for so long... But seeing this and your opinion... I'll wait and see what Cummins says about their IL9 predicted to be released in 2021. haha
21 here
I love that truck but I wish it had a seat where that front middle console is, it just makes more sense to me.
Jared Ostler yes! That one is like a car inside! I got the tradesmen addition, and that is a optional seat in mine. Still get a lot of compliments when people get inside.
fuckin by it! I've got one.. including the stick shift. You won't regret.
This has the lever shifter?

Element only 1500 have the dial 2500 and up have Colin shaft lever
I wished my '14 had the color matched stuff. Might just get the chrome on my Maximum Steel Metallic 2500 mega cab bed lined.

Ya, I agree ford def has a solid platform with their newer trucks.

Hey big fan of cummins I'm 14 my dream truck is a 1st gen cummins i just subscribed good videos keep it up
Thanks man
Hey I have a local diesel shop where I live who is selling a 2016 Cummins with 114,000 miles on it. Would you buy it?
I like my 2015 but you can't get the sound out of it like I could my 2012? The 2012 was loud after parts fell off but my 2015 just isn't the same! Do you know how to get more diesel sound out off the newer trucks with out doing a second gen swap? If so please let me know! Thanks
Buy it..4 gents are OURSTANDING
I love that truck I got the black on black one and it's awesome it was very nice
Me too,Cummins diesel 2500 black on black with a custom lift and big ol mud tires
Very high quality video. Nice work!
Thanks!
where do you live? I'm guessing closer to the east coast but that's my only guess..
NJ/PA This was near Harrisburg PA
I have one and love it
Thoughts on duramax? Really looking forward to the new L5P.
Ya I am really looking forward to the new power stroke and Duramax motor platforms. They will make really good power with just basic modifications for sure. I am familiar with cummins but I like 6.7 power stroke and new duramax platforms as well.
How. Would that air bag system work with a lift? I guess suspension companies have kits that accommodate for it
Ya I'm not sure, I can only guess that they'll make brackets to extend the factory stuff.
Excellent review
atleast the rear seats fold up and down without problems unlike the 3rd generation lol
that truck looks sick bro
Thanks!
if you do man get a mega!
They won't have the cummins in them here pretty soon
Matthew Meade what makes you think that?
Matthew Meade rumors.
MrErichonda30 the only other option I see for them is to put the fpt 6.7 that fiet uses in there case wheel loaders. Practically the same engine as a b series cummins engine. Only thing is that cummins badge sells a lot of trucks for ram

The smallest engine CAT produces is a 10L so that's not happening
It's the Night Edition
" You're going to need a bigger parking lot."
Im on a roll watchin your vids and wondering why I went with
Please get a 4th gen manual.
Awesome review. Subscribed
Thanks!
love it!
like the truck. Dont like the dpf or price! lol!
You sound like my wife about the heated steering wheel, she thinks that is the great feature. Truck is built to pull not to make all the girlie types happy.
No Aisin transmission dont get it.
only 3500 have the aisin

JDH I wouldn't have bought a ram if i couldn't have gotten the Aisin transmission. you can only get it in 3500 and up.
My Jeep Liberty gets about that stock 😂 I’m thinking I should get a big ass truck won’t make any difference
I'm probably behind on videos, but I say don't do it!
it's an exaughst brake not an engine brake HUGE difference
I'm pretty positive I said exhaust brake, maybe not tho, well aware of the difference. Thanks tho!
Ram has a lawsuit against Cummins so time will tell if they continue their relationship
good lord where are you, its absolutely gorgeous.
This was near lancaster PA
Buy it.
Go with the limited tho.
Does anybody know how much it would cost to get those seats and put them in my 2013?
The 2016 Cummins has the asin @greg
The 3500's have a option to get a asin, the 2500's are still a 68RFE
+GREG_ALBERALLA my 2015 Laramie has the Asin
O nice, i was just pointing out there both still options currently
+GREG_ALBERALLA yeah on the website the asin is like 5k plus option lol
If its a 2500 it doesn't have the aisin no matter what year it is
Buy it.....
The computer will override the overrev
Don't call it a dodge
Who ever pays how much they want for those trucks is a idiot, my 1966 ford will go anywhere it will..
Popeye I don't think he's considering a 45k dollar truck to go off roading. Can your 66 haul 5 people? Tow 15k pounds? Be reliable? Sure your 66 is nice but how can you even argue that the 66 is better
Popeye um no it won't.
Popeye it will make it across country with no problems how it did right now?
Don't buy one!!!! I've owned 2, I'm a slow learner
its a exhaust break!!! sounds like you know nothing about a Cummins!
Not sure what your mentioning. I called it an exhaust break but thanks
It's an exhaust brake. Engine brake is a totally different thing.
