Fun fact: If you beat the game with any other character it’s revealed that Dan won the CVS tournament while you were fighting Geese. Meaning that Dan is the canonical winner of CVS.

Dan is the ONLY character in the game sprited at a different resolution - He's actually higher res than the rest of the cast. This was done ONLY to make his face more detailed.
This is probably how every fight would go for Dan and Sakura teaming up. Dan being all cocky, getting beaten down and Sakura having to carry his ass through the tournament.
All these years of studying japanese has finally led me to this point. Understanding Dan's sweet sweet backstory and lore 😂😂😂
Haha same! Just last night I was thinking about this, because now I can understand what the characters are saying I feel like I get that little bit more personality from them, especially during gameplay, that I never did before. Last night I was watching Samurai Shodown 4 matches and hearing Sogetsu say 「あぶないですよ」and understanding it gave me so much more of an impression of his personality than when I couldn't understand any of it.
But then again, Dan's dad's dead and he can speak Japanese better than me xD

@@djhero0071 Haha of course! あぶないですよ (abunai desu yo) means something like, "(That's/this is) dangerous!". As with most things in Japanese, it's all about context. In this case it's meant to sound a little condescending to his opponent, because that's how we might say it to a kid who's doing something that's not good for them, or it might be how we tell someone that something is dangerous, assuming they don't already know. The よ (yo) on the end of the sentence is explanatory and turns it into an assertion. For example if I touched a hot kettle and burned my hand, I might exclaim to you, 手いたい、あぶないよ！ (te itai, abunai yo!) meaning, "It hurt my hand, it's dangerous!", so the よ makes it into an exclamation and has a bit more of an assertive tone compared to saying the same sentence without よ。But in a swordfight, it's pretty safe to assume that Sogetsu's opponent already knows that it's dangerous, so it comes off as a bit condescending :)
To this day, I think this is the absolute best voice Dan has ever had.

@@OptimusCrime1223 I think American Dan fits way better on the mannerisms of SF4!Dan. Dan Pre-SF4 was sorta this very cocky, arrogant but serious fighter, so this voice is better for this iteration of him(and I also still very much like this version of him too over SF4. SF4 wasn't bad, but it wasn't to my taste). And, well, we have yet to see Dan after SF4.
It's the same one from Alpha 3 which I consider the best

Holy crap! Those are the best background stages I've seen in a 2D fighting game
STILL one of my favorite fighting games from a presentation perspective of all time. The stages in this game were great and so were the stage intros. I agree that CvS2 was a better game but presentation wise CvS1 blew it out of the water. Man so many memories of playing this one on Dreamcast.
Hi there friend. Absolutely agree. I know I´m in the minority here, but i still prefer to play this version a bit more than CVS2. Quite possibly because I played this game so much on Dreamcast, both regular and Pro versions of the game. And the presentation in this game is stellar and on point. Even gameplay wise it´s very good. Dreamcast was a beast in terms of fighting games at that time. Cheers, stay safe and happy gaming to us all

3D sprites are one hell of a drug..
Imma throw this out there. If they decide to "HD-efy" This and CvS2, they should just combine them and call it CvS - Remix and combine the stages, add new stuff, and tune the mechanics.
Frankly, I think its a pretty solid way to bring these games back because, its criminal that they are sitting on their thumbs when Geese and Akuma are fighting in Tekken, and Ryu/Ken and Terry are fighting in Smash.

There is a Capcom vs. SNK arcade game in the game and no-one is playing that one either, they all play the UFO catcher instead. Capcom knew what was up.
Max kinda makes it sound like people went out of their way to ignore this game, but I had NEVER been in an arcade that had a single CvS 1 or 2 machine. Ever. If I had ever seen a game like this in the arcade back in the day, I definitely would've spent some time with it.
@@travistotle It would be, whether you liked the title or not, hard to ignore a crossover fighting game that combined rosters and aspects of two competing game developing companies plastered on a cabinet. There'd have to be a small group AT LEAST, with people trying to take bets on repping their favorites from either brand. But yeah, I can't recall seeing any of these machines in my youth at any of the arcades I went to, even though I wasn't big on fighting games until I turned 17. Capcom dropped the ball... or maybe my arcades just liked Time Crisis and Deer Hunter more... :/
It depends on how established the arcade was. I came across the first game in the arcade I used to frequent.
I seen a modded cabinet in Mexico back in 2013 with Capcom vs snk 2 on it! I was tripping on this crossover cause the only collab I heard of with Capcom were with marvel. I finally beat CVS 1&2 this past year due to a Dreamcast emulator 💪 shoutouts technology.

Now that I became a SNK fan I apreciated this game even more.

Sadly, while I'd love a new CvS, I would actually want it to be Capcom vs SNK and not "Street Fighter vs King of Fighters feat. Haohmaru" like the first two were. And Capcom/SNK apparantly did *not* enjoy developing games together.

Max is actually fluent in Japanese, he just pretends not to be to not make us feel bad.
Dan's face is definitely different in this than alpha.
His hands are also posed differently in his idle animation. It's not a total update, but it's not simply reused either.

I recognize a lot of these sounds from "Terry Yum Goong" that redubbed fight scene from The Protector. Particularly those Dan air kicks were a guy whiffing and getting thrown to the floor.
I can't tell what happened in the ending, but I think Dan and Sakura are wanted for terrorism now.

It was the same way up here in Vancouver, BC. The arcades where I saw a CVS1 machine at they went unplayed for the most part. As for myself growing up playing several SNK games I was all over the game and often played as the team of Ken and King or King and Vice.

CVS one was kind of my favorite game for the longest time.
I really liked all the characters and I really like playing as nakouru LOL. Arguably one of the first Vortex chars.

Ugh I remember how stoked I was when they released the screenshots of terry and the gang in capcom's sprite style.. I like CvS1s stages and announcer (the UI was pretty sick too) even if the game was a lil jank. 💖
I've always assumed that they were going to make all new spritrs for the Capcom character, but got though the shotos and Bison and said "forget it, just use the Alpha and Darkstalker sprites instead"

The “splash screen” that appeared after you KO’ed Cammy isn’t for a level 3 KO; It’s actually this game’s version of the “Finest KO” splash screen.
ALSO: The PS1 version of CvS1 is sh*t. Sound is muddled, it has an over abundance of loading screens, sprite and background quality is reduced. As with almost every Capcom fighting game ported to the PS1 over the years, the SEGA console ports have always been WAY superior and at times near arcade-perfect, as pretty much every Capcom fighting game on arcade cabinets run on SEGA hardware, making it easier to replicate on Saturn and Dreamcast as opposed to having to retool the entire game so it will even work due to the PS1’s glaring limitations.
This was incredible on Dream cast. The unlockables were great and the game oozes class

SNK is releasing Samurai showdown neogeo collection, with instant online access to every samurai showdown game. Next year its Street Fighter II 30th Anniversary, Capcom should release a collection with every version of Street Fighter II, including world warrior, championship edition, Hyper Street Fighter II The Anniversary edition etc with online access. Similar what SNK is doing to Samurai showdown. In theory if every version of Street Fighter II had instant online acess it will get the recognition it deserves. Street Fighter 30th Anniversary was a few years back but the other 2 games featured was not Street Fighter II.
I mean, The 30th Anniversary collection is the closest you'll get to a "SF2 Collection" so don't hold your breath on anything else.

SNK is doing a collection a Sanurai Showdown neogeo collection every samurai showdown game will have online access. The collection what SNK is doing i belive Capcom can do the same.

I played a shitload of this game back in the day. One of those rare situations for me when I asked the guy at gamestop what I should get and I was in the mood for a good fighting game. CvS1 on playstation was his first choice. It was such a sweet game. Still wish I had my old playstation and the games.

CvS1 Geese boss actually has a weird AI response to certain actions. He likes to keep using jumping reppuken and jumping hard kick. This opens him up to attacks that charge him. (Blanka roll, E. Honda Headbutt, etc) then follow up with a jumping attack while he's airborne. You can do this throughout the AI boss fight
