- "Sultans of Swing" was named by Alejandra Villarreal as a song she wishes she had written. We've heard the song, so we're reviewing it for new listeners. Neither of us had seen the video in decades, if at all!
The Warning is a rock band from Monterrey, Mexico, consisting of three sisters: Daniela, Paulina, and Alejandra Villarreal. They gained popularity through their TH-cam channel, where they posted covers of classic rock songs and eventually began showcasing their original music. The band's style is characterized by energetic performances, powerful vocals, and impressive musicianship.

Knopfler, without a doubt, one of the GOATs! And who knows? We could be saying that of The Warning in 30-40 years...
They grew up having popcorn and watching VHS tapes of classic concerts with their parents. They were raised right.
Dire Straits were a breath of fresh air when they came out, much like The Warning
I love that the ladies of The Warning don’t only like new, modern stuff, they grew up with and still love classic rock! Ale has a great taste! Thanks for your reaction! 👍⚡️🤘
Yes, nice reaction from the other two when they heard the pick.
Ale's taste is just the best.
She's near to perfection in every way.
Thank you for this. The fact that any young rock artists listen to or is even aware of Dire Straits astounds me.
This is one of my all time favorite tunes. Mark just makes that Fender sing. And the groove is so infectious.
Ale has great taste!
My brother in law put this album on his high end Realistic turntable with 4’ tower speakers back when this was released. I said, Wow, Bob Dylan has a new album? You had to be there to comprehend how huge this debut album was. Mark Knopfler is one of the finest finger picking guitar players we’ve ever been blessed with.
Classic stuff! When this first came out, I was blown away by the unique sound and, of course, the magical solo! Ale has exceptional taste!
One of the all-time Classic Rock Songs. I never get tired of listening this classic. This was a shortened version. Very Impressed with Ale’s pick.
Ale's choice is great. Always love this song takes me back to my teenage years.
Classical!! I imagine Ale doing a bass line; Paulina on proper drums version and Daniela singing and playing that solo. It’s will be great
Oh, man, Ale’s a Dire Straits fan. (And I saw Pau chimed in, too). I knew there was a reason I liked those ladies so much.
The three of them seemed to gleefully agree. Not that I’m surprised.
Mark Knopfler solo with no pick. Absolutely amazing.
I don't know this but I have always heard he learned his craft from Chet Atkins.
Such a great band and wonderful choice by Ale. The live version from "Live at Alchemy" is legendary and quite often viewed by reactors. The whole concert is amazing. A real must reaction from that concert is "Telegraph Road". Thanks for doing this one.
This stuff from the 70s and 80s is like classical music to the Villarreal sisters, and Dany mentioned Edith Piaf, wow. Love that even on MTV they are not too hip to mention these classic influences.
Thanks guys! Yes, Ale has great taste in music. One of my favorites!
In Mexico and Spain when you learn guitar you learn finger style first with accoustic guitar. It is when you go to electric that start using pick
I love this song since i heard it in my childhood in the 80´s.
WOW! It's been a long time since I heard this song and to be honest I didn't know the name of it or the band, great choice by Ale.
My respect for Ale just multiplied. "Sultans of Swing" is one of the all time greatest songs. It is timeless music that tells a story worth listening to and one of the most memorable guitar solos. "Brother in Arms" is also an awesome tune by Dire Straits.
EDIT: What happened to the grand finale solo in the video? That is the pinnacle of the song. What a shame. Ah, you answered in the end. Thanks for the thoughtful reaction Glenn and Adrian.
Good selection from Alejandra. It's a great song and a classic.
the mandela 1988 concert sultans of swing is the best!! when he goes off with the solo, Clapton is there aswel
There's a live version on YT that is pure 🚬. He's gotta be one of the best guitarists ever.
I recall an interview from decades ago, in which Mark Knopfler hailed Hank Marvin of The Shadows as one of his biggest inspirations.
Marvin of course played a red Stratocaster. Thank you guys. ❤✌🤘⚡🔥
There is Documentary out there when Knopfler travels the world telling the story of his 5 favorite guitars...where he bought them etc, the red strat's the first on the list...Its an awesome show if you can find it!
@@dw9911I think I have seen it a while back,
This song is easily in my top ten of all time. Knoplfler's guitar work often brings me to tears :)
Athens Greece May 1985, Second show of the Brothers in Arms world tour...One my Favorite bands ever, and Sultans one of my top 5 songs, and one of top 5 live shows. interestingly enough 2 more of that top 5 shows where also in Greece ( I went to high school over there, dad was oil guy in the middle east ), Eric Clapton, '83 in a 2000 seat theater was unreal, and Talking Heads summer of '82 also unreal fun! Not to leave you hanging, the missing 2 are, The Police Synchronicity- '83, and AC/DC the Thunderstruck album '86 (i think) both in my home city Edmonton Alberta! Where I'll be seeing the girls with Amy Lee and Lzzy this October!!! Super impressed with Ale's choice, but lets face it there's TONS of old school rock throughout DPA's new rock, so impressed but not surprised.
I saw the Police on that same tour, was my first major concert ever. - G
@@glennandadriansrocktalk it was an awesome Show!
right! i was waiting for the beautiful solo at the end. a true classic. thanks guys!
I remember when this song came out like it was yesterday, I was on the high seas. Around the time that the Wall also came out if i remember right.
Yhanks guys for the upload
And thank you Ale as well
I loved this song when it first came out. I was working in a Musicland store in a mall when I was just out of High School and was already into rock and roll and hated anything disco. I was always looking for the next rock album to purchase on my employee discount. This album was a must have. I had a rather large vinyl collection by the time I was 20 years old. Of course, I moved on from the retail music store for other work, but kept on adding to my collection. Still have them all today. Ale has great taste, all three girls do.
I saw Mark Knopler and his band and i enjoyed the concert very much.
Great! Qué bueno escuchar otra vez este increíble tema! Gracias! Recuerdo vívidamente esta banda, el video y por supuesto la canción, que he seguido escuchando a lo largo de los años. Buena elección Alejandra!
Hay algún vinilo en el planeta Tierra que no tenga Glenn?
This pick from her surprised me. Honestly I would have expected Piano Man by Billy Joel.
The full album version is so much better! Or should I say it's what I'm used to, so when this cuts off short, it hurts my soul. (I'll survive 😊)
Lindsey Buckingham also plays finger style.
One of the best ever.
I don’t think I could choose between Mark and Lindsey… both are phenomenal.
very nice! that took me waaaaaay back like DPA/TW's salute to Yes' _"90125"_ album in their *XXI Century Blood* OMV... the number on the indoctrination pod the baby was placed into at the beginning... especially when i noted the OMV for the 1st track on _"90125"_ was in a similar vein as XXICB with non-conformists and "recovery agents" 😹
One of the all time favorites, just wish you had chosen the Alchemy Live performance as it is by far the best version and one of Mark Knopler's best solos ever. It's a must watch if you haven't seen it.
Wasn't possible, it got blocked... this was the only version I could find that didn't get blocked, and I tested several videos. In fact this is why we don't do a lot of Dire Straits in general.
Love that song.
I never noticed what a great bass line this song has because of the guitar playing maybe that's why she picked it and as far as finger picking guitar players Lindsey Buckingham from FleetwoodMac and Toy Caldwell from the Marshall Tucker Band are two of the best.
His solo catalog dwarfs the Dire Straits output. And he's aged like fine wine, songwriting and composition are still genius, better vocally imo and you know he plays guitar? It's a great journey to take, enjoy.
This was a song that made everyone sit up and take notice when it came out. Nothing else sounded like it. Dire Straits were one of the bands that benefitted hugely from the pub rock scene and the exposure new bands were able to get in the wake of the punk and new wave explosion. In the UK, fingerpicking really came out of the folk rock of the 1960's and players like Bert Jansch, John Renbourn and Richard Thompson, who were actually far more accomplished than Mark Knopfler but never broke into the mainstream. Paul Simon was also part of that scene for a while and he's a pretty good guitar player himself.
I am a big fan of Bert, John and RT. -G
Brothers in arms is another great song. 👍
We enjoyed doing that one too. Amazing.
and I saw it live :)
Ale escogiendo temas de alta calidad "Sultans of Swing" ahora sabemos porque Ale es de alta calidad
The Bug is another great song by them, probably early to mid 90s .
While this video has racked up almost 375 mil. views, which is no small feat, there is a drum-cover by a then 17 year old girl, known as sina-drums, that has almost 70 mil. views, which is *really* impressive for a drum cover channel. Sina is an incredibly prolific youtuber, and has covered all the rock-greats we grew up with. While she may not be as focused on rockmusic as Paulina, she can certainly, as David Bendeth put it about Ale, "hang with the best of them". You should check her out...

And if you noticed he was not shredding 😊😊
Oh this is the video that cuts off at the absolute worst time LOL!
The Warning listen to all types of music,
Mis-heard lyric - thought it was “they say an old guitar is all he can afford”. Left-handed guitars were much more expensive than righties back then and the fact that fewer people used them, absolutely didn’t make them a throwaway bargain (at least around my way). Knopfler, as a fellow lefty, must’ve known that?
Alcemy live!
Can’t believe you didn’t play it to the end!!
It wasn't there!
Check out alchemy live version
Will you be diving into Paus choice lol
They already did.
Yes sir - right here! and the plan is to do at least 2 songs for each sister. th-cam.com/video/hyXq8gcQlXs/w-d-xo.html
@@thomaswhite7783 was thinking more of her "Nutcracker" choice . . .

Hi. I can't wait for you to get to the song Coolo by Los Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas 🤣.
To be fair IKV have very good songs, in various genres. One of the two members (Dante Spinetta) is the son of a legendary Argentine musician Luis Alberto Spinetta.
IKV was very big in the late 90s, early 2000s throughout Latin America.
Greetings!

We'll see - they listed a ton of songs apiece - but if people stay interested, yeah we'll see just how adventurous we get! - G
