Our back room needs major help. We have to tear it down and rebuild it right without messing up our new roof!

I often wonder if the folks who sold you the house walked away shaking their heads and laughing. I also wonder if they watch your channel and wish they had done what you are doing. It's a lot of work and super satisfying. It's becoming a beautiful home and there is great satisfaction in breathing life into something that can be saved and renewed.
They don't know who we are or that we have a channel. It was a short sale so the seller made no profit at all. But we got a very good deal for it because of that. Thanks :)

I admire your work ethic Doug!! Always trying to get the different elements of the renovation as perfect as you can. I know the bulging walls will bug you. Try and let it go, and know it’s not anything you did, and it’s not something you can repair now. Ashley, it’s nice you hang out where Doug is working, even if there’s nothing you can do at the time to help him. I’m sure Doug appreciates your company. I think the four of you are going to love the screen in porch!! You’re working on the backside of the house right? Please answer a question for me!! Do your subscribers have to watch the commercials in order for you to earn revenue for the video?? If that’s the case, maybe you should address it in one of your videos. You have a community here that loves your family, and we want your channel to be profitable for you. I know it takes a lot of time and effort to edit the videos. I appreciate all your hard work. I admit, I skip the commercials, but I do go to the playlist ( videos I’ve already watched), and I let the playlist run (without deleting the commercials), while I’m doing other things.
I’m hoping you have plenty of materials to keep the renovation going just incase we end up with a gas shortage, or another construction supply shortage. I live in New England, and we’ve already been warned to expect rolling blackouts this winter. ( scheduled grid shut down to conserve energy). I appreciate the long video!! There is a level of trust that builds when I watch a man methodically and judiciously correct and improve his home for his wife and family. Your work ethic is just amazing and I enjoy this channel for many many months now.
Doug always has carried those thoughts, at least from all the years we have watched their shows.
I've been watching you guys since one of Doug's first videos (repairing and refurbishing a dresser way back when Ash would not be on camera at all lol). I love that each house you guys have worked on has been different. You're not locked into a style but take ques from the buildings bones, the area it is in, and how your family will utilize the space once complete. It's been great to watch you guys gain confidence with every project and see how the kids confidence in their areas of interest bloom right along with you guys. Keep up the phenomenal work!!!

As someone who has renovated ~30-40% of my house I hate that feeling when you find something done improperly. Its not so much that you have to fix it, its more of a disappointment in the previous tenants/contractors.
Your house is coming along so well now. Thank you for showing us so regularly. I am always amazed at the arrogance of people questioning vloggers about something like an "Untidy" workspace. These must be people who have either never done any DIY or who feel themselves superior. Please do not let them upset you. Either way they are stupid.
I really appreciate how methodical you both are. You don’t always do things the typical way but you are doing things at a higher level than most builders.

As a child I lived in almost the exact design of home. I was Bell’s age helping him “piece by piece” repair our home in the LA swamp. Your children are quite lucky and will grow to be strong resilient people.

You saved that house, without you guys it would have died. Don't stress about the perfect squareness of the rooms, hide it with shims and in a while you'll forget it. You guys are the best. You don't have to be perfect or prove yourselves to anyone. All us commenters sit back and watch with our "professional opinions" and critique everything but let someone do that to any of us and it would be a skit for a talk show, you handle it with such grace. Thank you for sharing and don't worry about what people say. They have their own house they can make any way they please.

Doug, when you said you should’ve checked the wall to ensure it was plumb but forgot to before you did the ceiling. This is what I envisioned. Eevee stood behind that Uncle, Jesse character, and lifting his arm, and giving you a swat in the back of the head, for not doing that. 😂😂

Stan totally helped push the wall down!
We built our house over a period of 3 years. It was a new build, built by my hubby and me. He was a marine electrician and I was an admin assistant (no background in construction other than a few remodels). Occasionally we'd call in Stan (a real person) to give us some guidance. Fast forward 5 or 6 years when we were installing the pocket door in my sewing room. The bottom 3' or so was fine, but our wall was bowing several inches at the top. Oh well! We built it, we have no one to blame but ourselves! What we've learned is "don't sweat the small stuff". Is our house perfect? No, but more importantly, it's ours and we love it. More importantly, it is willed to our daughter so she can deal with it when the time comes! 🙂
I absolutely love the longer videos! Bella and Maverick are growing so much and are becoming such a big help. They are going to be amazing adults just like mom and dad. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives. May God continue to bless you all.

You could maybe fir out the walls to plumb on the inside. Then add tapered jamb extensions to the windows. I know it won't fix the lean on the outside, but at least you would have plumb walls on the inside for cabinets and such. Love your channel. We watch every episode. Keep up the great work.

Lol that crooked wall reminds me of my in law's house. Pa built it himself and was always fond of saying things like "nah it's close enough for government work". I actually would get dizzie walkung around in their house. Needless to say, I was not happy when he decided to help us build our house. That was 40 years ago. It's still in decent shape because my husband insisted on using a level and a measuring tape. Eyeballing it just wasn't cutting it for him.

Hi 👋 Tennessee here, I love 💕 that you are having a screened in porch! No bugs 🐜 LOL 😆 You accomplished a lot today, the light filled dining room is going to be nice, sit at the table and take in the beautiful view of nature all around you. Stan on the big reveal, too cute. I understand your frustration with the wall leaning, my Dad remodeled an old farmhouse that my grandfather built many years ago, he ran into the same issue. It drove him crazy, but in the end he just made the best he could out of the situation and no one ever knew, it all worked out in the end.

In spite of the error with the back room, your home will be so much more solid than it was before. It is really coming together nicely. I always enjoy watching Maverick helping out with the build. No doubt he will take after his dad when it comes to building skills!
