    World Rajang gave me PTSD. When i first loaded into rise, I didn't think id encounter him so early. during one of my hunts, I saw a question mark monster on my map, so I went to see if it was a new monster I have never seen before, it was rajang, napping at the base of the pyramid. i didn't see him at first, and started roaming around trying to find the new monster, then I spotted the dark haired bump on the corner of my screen. i turned to see a rajang mouth and I literally squealed so that the other discord members started laughing. since then, when I see a rajang in rise, my first thought is, "Oh free mats"

    Something that happened, and that I measured by looking at one quest in each game in Kiranico, was that Rajang got smaller in 5th gen.
    MHGU rajang is about 850-1200 cm (in the middle is 1025)
    World Rajang is about 730 to 1000 cm, (in the middle is 865)
    and Rise rajang is about 750 to 1060 cm. (in the middle is 905)
    so if GU rajang is 100% of his original length (having this be 100 percent assumes that he hasn't shrunk since Dos),
    then World is about 84%, and Rise 88%; and square cube law means about half to 60 percent of the weight/size.

    • @WisdomAkpan211
      @WisdomAkpan211 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I've also made this observation. You've crucially left out FU where rajang was his largest. His largest gold crown size in that game was 1555cm. He got absolutely giant in that game if you were lucky enough to encounter it. They've been steadily decreasing his size. His maximum size got reduced from 1555cm to 1207cm in 4u/gu and reduced even further from 1207 to 994cm in word. In rise he's slightly larger than his world counterpart as you've pointed out.
      I remember being so salty that they made him so small in world. Especially since other returning monsters in iceborne got larger. Zinogre's went from ~1800cm to ~2100cm. Tigrex went from ~2100cm to ~2400cm. Narga went from ~2000cm to ~2400cm. I wonder why they wanted rajang considerably smaller than before

    • @Sharkamfss
      @Sharkamfss 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@WisdomAkpan211 Likely because they wanted his size to go with his speed. Having a relatively small target that's hard to hit be lighting quick is a ball busting combo.

    I loved Iceborne Rajang, and Furious even more so. I know some people hated him for his relentlessness, but I never really felt it was unfair.
    I'm really hoping Furious makes it in Sunbreak or that at least Rajang gets his Iceborne mojo back. With the abilities of our hunters in Sunbreak we need more aggressive monsters. Fighting Iceborne's Furious with Rise's combat would be a pure adrenaline fueled thrill ride. I want it.

      I was a huge advocate of Iceborne Rajang, and thought that he was a phenomenal fight from the start. I personally had a lot of trouble with him, but my favorite weapon to use against him is Gunlance. This is because it's the most immobile melee weapon and has generally slower attacks, but also very fast ones, and I think Rajang more than any other monster teaches the player to always remember that all weapons have low commitment options to chip away at a monster.
      It's no coincidence that Rajang, especially in Iceborne, has far lower maximum health values than the other endgame Iceborne monsters. You are supposed to chip away at him between his very tight hitbox attacks until he does a more medium time opening like after his double fist slam or his spinning charge.

      I like Furious Rajang in Iceborne, he has better openings and actually gives you plenty of opportunities to hit him, i’ve fought both of them over 100 times and some parts of it are annoying. Like when he instantly goes into a punch flurry with zero windup after recovering from a previous attack, or when Rajang picks up the ground it’s pretty much impossible to avoid if you’re standing in front of him because it comes out too fast. Rajang isn’t exactly a fair monster.
      I also don’t like how he wastes so much time punching air and leap frogging all over the place, and the fact that he flinches you gets annoying. But other than that it’s not unfair for the most part and it’s fine once you learn how to fight him, but to say he’s a perfectly fair and balanced monster I think is a little disingenuous. Furious Rajang was a lot better though because he gives consistent openings, Rajang’s openings are extremely short.
      I use GS against him and sometimes it’s not possible to avoid his next move namely his instant punch attack and his ‘pick up the floor’ attack. The only way to avoid it is to play extremely safe with a faster weapon or attack the tail, but Furious doesn’t have a tail. All in all though I don’t want to see him get nerfed or become a shell of his former self (like what happened in Rise), Rajang being the destroyer is basically his identity, so even if he’s a little frustrating I think that’s fine because he’s supposed to be hard.

    I'll never forget Iceborne Rajang, I fought him alongside a friend who basically had to carry/help me through most of the expansion content, and not even that stopped me from carting 3 times, multiple times, forcing us to retry the mission a few times until we got it. I remember getting absolutely frustrated with it to the point I told my friend "Imagine if you weren't here to help me, then how the fuck am I supposed to solo this?". Rajang is by far and away my favorite fight in the Monster Hunter series, with my favorite version of him being Iceborne. He's such a hard fight to learn when you first encounter him, but its so rewarding to have it click and finally feel confident against him. And somehow, the fight feels completely fair. Every single time I've carted to him I know with absolute certainty that it was my fault and I just need to get good. He doesn't have any stupid gimmicks or arbitrarily annoying mechanics. He's just a really angry monkey trying his hardest to make you dead, and I love it.

    Glad that you covered my favorite monster in the series. The coolest thing about Rise's Rajang, despite the reversions made because he was HR, is that when you encounter him early on he'll just be a question mark on the map that doesn't move the entire time. I had this curious reaction when I played for the first time and when I went to investigate it was sleeping. I can imagine how many players go and say something like "ha ha, I'm gonna wake up the funny monkey" only to get destroyed by something they shouldn't be fighting at that point in time. It's making me more hyped to see how tuned up Rajang will be in Sunbreak once I get a high enough MR to fight him or even see him invade maps.

    God, iceborne furious rajang is truly the beast he was always meant to be. I've seen some videos where peoples biggest critiques of iceborne rajang is that he lacked the patterns (and to an extent, the predictability) of 4u and the older games. I can see the problem with that, as learning to fight extensively still doesn't guarantee you the same results every time in iceborne.
    However, having fought him so much in iceborne, as he's always been my favorite monster, I thought he was finally done a good service as a tough fight because he can't be approached the same way every time (furious, regular rajang is still a bit predictable imo) and it's what makes him a unique monster to me. Great video and I'm glad you touched on furious rajang in this because I think that's an example of a good fight (that could probably be improved with better hit zones).

    I really like the Rise Rajang, but I feel like they could have retained some of Iceborne's speed and agression increases with him. Sure, he is only high rank in Rise so they had to tone him down someway, but with the increased speed and mobility for hunters in Rise countering some of Rajang's greatest strengths I really feel like he didn't need that much of an adjustment. I hope Sunbreak gives us a faster Rajang again and brings back Furious Rajang.
    I really used to hate Rajang in FU though. Back in those days the controls were clunkier and you were so much slower than in the later gen games, and it was just a pain to avoid the damage from all of those little hops Rajang does.

    Rise being my first monster hunter game i had no clue what a rajang was. So when i discovered it asleep while hunting a different monster, i did what ive done before and threw a kunai as i rode past it. Little did i know that it had a laser beam which took 3/4 of my health and left me panicking. Luckily i eacaped but that left me scared of rajangs for a while. Definitely a memorable moment for me.
    Another memorable moment was when i was grinding for a full set of its armor. At this point i was already comfortable with fighting rajangs. During one fight all my wire bugs were on cooldown and i ended up getting grabbed. At this point i have never been grabbed and thought ive seen all of his animations so i was really surprised. His combo left me at slightly below half health. At this point i was stuck on the ground believing that my defense was strong enough to leave me a sliver of health. Boy was i wrong. He instantly carted me with his combo finisher. I was left flabberghasted.
    Although rajang did leave me slightly tramatized, he is definitely one of my favorite monsters.

    Going from iceborne to rise I was confused at how I didn't have a hard time against rajang and wondered if he was easier or if I was more used to it. In iceborne I played mostly DB but didn't dare fight rajang with them so I went with a sticky lightbowgun, which was still pretty fun because I either dodged or a single normal attack would take 90% of my health and in rise I mained the swaxe and was able to beat him after a good fight.
    But what really told me he was easier in Rise was his belly slam, In Iceborne if I didn't superman dive it it was a guaranteed cart while in rise a simple dodge would do, I really surprised me that one.

Sure, you need to learn the fight first, but once you‘ve seen other people abuse his attacks and be patient enough he gets much easier. The normal one is just on crack and abuses some of its attack better once you are too close while also being harder to dodge (the attack where he digs up a lot of ground in front of him especially, which is exclusive to the normal one)

    I’m fairly confident they will speed him up in master rank, a lot of people get overly jumpy at the prospect that he’s so much easier but most people are comparing post game master rank content from MHWI to high rank, base game content, it was inevitable he would be easier, even if they had changed literally nothing from MHWI because he’s not currently a master rank monster. The reason I’m confident, is because in my experience with older games, high rank raj has almost never given me a challenge once I learned his moves, but master rank has always been really hard even with full knowledge of his kit, so I think it’s fair to say he’ll probably get fixed in MHRS.

    we got a new gorilla in Sunbreak with garangolm so i'm desperately praying that we get a new crab too. both gorillas and crabs were introdused in gen 2 but garangolm is the first totally new monster of this type since. third gen gave us bears, 4th gen gave us a chimp/subspecies and an elephant, 5th gen gave us a monkey (bishaten) and, with sunbreak, a new gorilla (garangolm) finally after 16 years. i love garangolm's design, and how he's the rathalos tier ape i've been asking for. we've been waiting on a new crab for the same amount of time and may have to wait longer. capcom, please, end the second gen curse. it would be very anticlimactic/unfair to finally get a new gorilla but not a new crab to join him. the crab can be any threat level, i just want it to have a unique fight that's more different from shogun ceanatour and daimyo hermitour.
    the monster design has come a long way since gen 2, i believe in you capcom.
    i love MHW rajang, Rise raang was fun but not the same impact. this isn't too fair a comparison though, as much as people like to make it, because in Rise he was in the base game where in MHWI it was a post launch/post story update to the G/Master rank expansion. it's apples and oranges, still fruit/still rajang but not the same. i also love the grab from being clutched onto with his primate arm flexibility being on full display or how if he is knocked down close to a wall he catches himself and follows up with a hand spring. the finisher is the only truly "fuck lance" attack in MHW, it does 2 hits with massive chip damage that is way more than even elder dragon super moves. in Rise they opted for "nah guard up don't block this cause fuck you", i hope this goes away in sunbreak or they edit the skill to have 2 tiers of unblockable where guard up 1 lets you block tier 1 and guard up 2 lets you block tier 2 penetrating attacks along with the chip damage reduction the levels normally give you in Rise. a more creative solution to blocking was shara's beam where most of the time the like 12 hits would use all your stamina and hit you, if you face it head on, but if you turn to the side the knockback moves you out of its hit box in 2 or 3 ticks. for valstrax ambush, apex zinogre lightning, and all-mother dragonators they just bull shit you. easier to fix is apex zinogre, just have them aim for behind you so you have to turn but worry about a follow up so needing good reflexes to turn away and back towards him to block any combos.
    i love how in IB furious rajang's moveset is more unique, focussing more on his thunder attacks than his physical ones. the 2 new pins are also nice but a bit less dangerous, if the move itself doesn't kill you, as follow ups are slower. he truly has no tail this time so you have to hit his face to power him down which is a lot more dangerous than sticking to his butt with the old games having ok back leg hit zones. furious also changes his not getting knocked down near a wall where he will, instead of a hand spring, he'll do a sweeping beam. the funniest thing by far about furious rajang in MHWI is if he does the beam/areal thorw pin and you are hit by the hunter flying to the ground you take massive damage too. so he can get a lucky throw using your parner as a weapon against you. there are probably some glorious clips of this killing both the thrown hunter and the one they fly into simultaneously.

    MH World was my first MH game, so when i heared about Rajang and hes lore i was exited and wasent disapointed when he came out, hes fight is so mutch fun because he was the only monster that could keep up to the hunters mobility and speed while hitting like 10 trucks so it was a even match between you and the monster, hes moves where also easy to dodge away from so if you where at your A-game with your dodging you could defeat him, then furious came out and said "i dont want you A-game, i want your S-game" which made hes fight even more exiting and hypet, persnoly i enjoyed normal rajang more then furious but both fights are my faves in the game, Rise rajang was a let down where they nerfed hes speed and had more openings which really was disaponting but still a fun fight overall but could have been better

    As a Hammer player, IB Rajang is really annoying; if he spams the punches there’s not much you can do except run away. F Rajang actually fixed the fight for me by adding better punish windows on his new moves.
    SB mostly took away a lot of the sluggishness of HR Rajang which was a joke in Rise, but I still prefer F Rajang for the same reasons in MR as I did in IB (although base definitely has more openings in SB, or maybe I’m just better).

      It‘s the same. Tail for normal rajang, Head for Furious. It’s also often a great opportunity to wallbang him. He is actually quite weak to it and the intended way to fight him, since he stays on the ground slightly longer than other monsters.

    HR Rajang was never hard (unless he was a Hyper Version). The G-Rank/Masterrank Version is always the real fight so i at least dont think Rise ruined Rajang until i see what Sunbreak does to him. Also for me personally Iceborn Rajang is far easier then MH4U or GenU Rajang. It feels glacialy slow to me.. kinda fun that different people percieve this fight so different. Furios Rajang however is a whole different Story in Iceborn.. man they went all out with him and that fight was insane. I had 0 issues with him in MH4U or GenU but in iceborn he kicked my teeth in more times then i liked.

    Correct me if I'm wrong on this. Iceborne Rajang is Master Rank. So, isn't it possible his speed could be increase and he could get some more Iceborne moves in Sunbreak? Even know Rise is my first MH game I do agree Rajang is easy. I was actually disappointed the first time I fought him.

    • @HeavyWings
      @HeavyWings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah they could easily increase his speed. I don't think they will increase it to the level of Iceborne Rajang - as that version was built to be hard for players who had beaten the final boss and even the base games postgame monsters like Silver Rathalos.
      Sunbreak Rajang probably won't have the wall counter and he probably won't be able to pin by grabbing a wirebug like with the clutch claw either, so he won't be as hard as that version either.
      Now is that a bad thing? In my opinion not really, because the wall counter really sucked and the pin counter was annoying.
