    Something unmentioned here is that Rise Basarios will have a slightly different appearance depending on whether he is fought in the desert or volcano map. Off the top of my head the only other monster to do something like this ignoring generational design updates is slagtoth, which have different colors on volcanos compared to swamp areas.

    Gravies was one of the most pleasant surprises from GU, coming from Rise and World. I'd expected Gravios to be annoying, but ultimately it ended up being quite enjoyable and the fact that they're not in rise is honestly a crime

      Perhaps Gravios is only present near the swamp and larger volcanic areas of the Old World instead of Kamura, it seems.
      Basarios hanging out in Kamura were probably castaways because they dwell in there without the need of evolving into a Gravios perhaps?

      Zamite, but no Zamtrios.
      A baby Tetsucabra (in the gathering hub, under master Hojo), but no Tetsucabra.
      Velociprey, but no Velocidrome.
      Basarios, but no Gravios.
      Uroktor, but not Agnaktor.
      Daimyo Hermitaur, but no Monoblos (the skull it wears).
      Shogun Ceanataur, but no Gravios (the skull it wears).
      Crimson Glow Valstrax, but no Valstrax. We got a variant of a monster not in the game, and with Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax, a variant of a variant of a monster not in the game.
      We're also likely to get Fatalis still. the only time we didn't get Fatalis was in 3, where we instead had Dire Miralis.

    Should have mentionned that, in 4th gen, their riding animation (and the part the damage is dealt to) changes after their back has been broken. It's something that (unless I'm forgetting someone) only they do, and it's a really fun nice way to diversify the riding mechanic.
    Other than that, great vid, keep at it

    i always loved basarios' armour sets, i wore the blademaster helmet waay past its useful range😂 gravios was always a surprisingly easy fight to me but i love their concept and execution- super menacing, but in a grumpy hippo sort of way, and i loved basarios' hiding strategy, even if ingame it became trivial to figure out which rock they were. i dont know what preyed on basarios, but having the junior form be able to hide while the adult can submerge in lava (im guessing basarios maybe couldnt do that because its shell isnt strong enough yet perhaps? i havent played 2nd gen in years) is a super fun feature that just makes it feel even more grounded as a fully realised animal.

      I think akantor preys on basarios as it is shown in akantors cutscene in like 4u. I reckon other monsters that live in basarios’ habitats that can maybe also eat rocks or have good fire res prey on basarios too.

    As a part breaker enjoyer Gravios is a gift, there are so many head, wings, back, legs and the belly that you can break twice in MH4U the back was my main target because of the fire blast after each lazer beams
    And the belly mount animation was so good I mean you literraly stab the monster in the guts

    Gravios is still to this day my favorite monster in the entire series. Fighting him in the swamp in the original game was such a blast, just slowly seeing him creep in through the mist.
    I waited and waited for them to announce him in Monster Hunter World. I thought he would have been a guarantee to show up. How disappointed I was when he never arrived.

    Mounting definitely improved both Basarios and Gravios, in fact they have unusually low mounting damage tolerance too, so there's plenty of opportunities to exploit their big size.
    Don't know how people fought them in older gens though, trying to hit a gold crown Gravios sounds like a nightmare.

  • @Hihi-pv3qg
    @Hihi-pv3qg ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I feel like Gravios and Basarios also emphasize another aspect of Monster Hunter's gameplay that isn't focused on much in the newer games; bouncing. In older games, there were tanks of monsters that had thick armor meant to deflect attacks, and it's a good way to teach you to focus on other parts.
    Basarios was the starting class on it, and it taught you your attacks CAN bounce. Blademasters had to learn that attacking randomly was just going to make them vulnerable, and thus, they need to position themselves at a monster's weak point- that being Basarios' belly. Rise's changes to it definitely helped it give itself a beginner class, since it also introduces how hitzones can change mid-battle, and you should keep your eye out for them.
    Gravios was the master class, though. Its whole body was tough as stone, so unless you had a high sharpness weapon, you weren't going to be able to break through it, and it acts as a solid wall to teach you higher sharpness is better. At the same time, it also rewards you with its part breaks for getting through its armor; its tail gives double the carves, breaking its legs and belly give better hitzones, and its back prevents gas from below. It teaches you about the mechanics of sharpness management and how impactful part breaks can be.
    In modern Monster Hunter, most new monsters don't teach you about bouncing. All of them have bodies you can break through with green/blue sharpness without much worry. The closest thing we have in Sunbreak is Espinas, which is only temporary and is in G-Rank, making it less of a tutorial and more of a test.
    It's why I feel like Basarios and Gravios should have more roles as this teacher, as well as be intimidating new monsters that aren't as tough as you might think them to be. I love these two for being so honking heavy, and I'm severely disappointed that Gravios didn't return for Rise/Sunbreak. Perhaps MH6 shall add them once more.

  • @jockpackage1770
    @jockpackage1770 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    i'd have loved it if his body break still caused the explosion to come from his back especially in Rise. in Rise i would have made a funny dynamic of sure you can do more damage but areal attacks on his back are more risky after the break. i would also love it if gravios lost the body heating up after attacks to further indicate him being better at using his abilities than basarios in a future game. Ruby Basarios introducing the stomp explosions is interesting since GU players would have thought it was a new Rise move while not knowing of the subspecies and i like that move. black gravios would also be awesome, more lazer variations and mixing his belly explosions in so he's not so vulnerable at close range if you bait him or he's shooting another player.

  • @TrollingJar
    @TrollingJar ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Gravios was super memorable for me due to the many part breaks being impactful in the fight, beyond the standard tail cut. I wished Capcom leaned more into that attention to detail, but they have shied away from it in favor of hit the generated part/glowing bit for extra damage/topple. This is especially noticeable in Rise-Sunbreak where half the cast has it in some form (and many more if you include the anomaly monsters) and it homogenizes a lot of the fights, imo.

    • @HeavyWings
      @HeavyWings  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So what I do is look at how many games they're in, then play those respective games and write down what attacks they have. I'll ask around to check if I'm missing anything (Gravios can fire heat gas in MHG, Dos and FU but I didn't know), then I'll record footage. Sometimes it takes a while to get the monster to do one specific attack. The more games the monster is in and the more variations they have, the harder it is - this is why the Fatalis video is 30 minutes long.
      Overall it takes a while but if I plan in advance it's not too hard.

Most of the mud/rock monsters were enjoyable for me (Barroth, Basarios, Almudron, etc) The clanking wasn't very enjoyable but I started playing GL so that became less of a problem. As for the Basarios misfiring the lazer beam, I always thought that was tied to stamina or from the monster using it too close back to back

    Favorite fight I had with one of these had to be LBG vs LR Black Gravios in FU. For such a powerful monster, it's a really stupidly easy fight. I wasn't exactly a fan of gen 4 Basarios, and Gravios always had some weird stuff going on. Also Gravios in any game always had the issue of being so big, it's hard to tell what he's doing when you are next to him. I still like him a lot, and it was a shame that we didn't get Gravios in Rise/Sunbreak, would have been cool to fight such a huge monster in such large maps and with so much mobility for the player.

    Gravios is an absolute pain in the ass for blademasters in 1st and 2nd gen but the updates they gave him in 4th gen are awesome, and I really like fighting him. I find the amount of breaks he has to be satisfying, and it really helps ease up the fight for people who don't want to use guns against him, while still maintaining the point of his design (to be a giant tank with hard armor).

    When it comes to these two Wyverns, I like Basarios a lot more. I primarily like it for its design, with the rocks on its back allowing it to blend with the environment being a neat niche (and good for a laugh in the Stories games).
    Gravios is more meh to me. I'm not fond of its huge size, as it makes it tends to take up much if the screen, kinda like Gammoth. And there's the sleep gas... I'd rather be burned or poisoned.

    As much as I'd curse it, I kind of miss Gravios. Really wonder how it would interact with the Rise and Sunbreak mechanics.
    But I do agree that Gravios is overall better than Basarios. For the simple reason that it has more attackable surface area. The leg breaking also helps and I generally prefer the more mature moveset once you have hunted two or three. Black Gravios would be an absolute menace though.

    while I did appreaciate gravios as a relatively easy fight later on, I did not like him when I first had to take him and his subspecies down. While I agree it feels rewarding to finally break through that bastards hide and beat the everwood living fork out of him, some of his moves feel like they are just there to waste my time. as a sns main, I hated fighting this monster in the caravan and gathering hall quests, because it feels like you get punished for existing near the monster, and it becomes especially apparant if you encounter one that you dont want to hunt in an expidition hunting for guild quests. as a sns main I only have one spot I can attack the monster from and I always get spammed with gas, tail swipes, charges, and rolls. Trying to avoid this bugger isnt much better either, since he will be 100 meters from your location, and approaching rapidly, and/or spamming spreading beams at you. All you need to do though is get a water sns though and the guy becomes a total joke, other than the fact of you will lose at least a fourth of your whetstones trying to prevent bouncing, but man is it annoying when I'm trying for an oroshi kirin quest and a regular gravios just decides to pop in for no reason to cause the monster I'm hunting to leave like 10 different times.

    I absolutely despise black gravios in 4u. Literally anti greatsword. So much rage.

      He's a bit difficult yeah, especially because you need guard up for the heat blasts.

      I dread fighting gravios in every single game, especially GU

      gravios in mhfu was pretty easy.
      the death stench armor set came with the fencing skill that prevented bouncing.
      that combined with the white monoblos long sword made short work of any gravios.

    i first experienced gravios in 4u after playing rise and feeling like basarios was just kind of a forgetable early game monster. But honestly i way prefer basarios being a bit easy over every version of bas/gravios making me annoyed every time i see them

    Rise Basarios in the Desert was also sand colored. This Video feels less orderly, its a shame. There are many smaller details you could have pointed out, like whit Rubys Moveset.

    I think i don't prefer either of them ~ They don't qualify as monster hunter material and being SLOW as fk is boring if not anything. I guess not all monster hunter monsters land in creativity department. Gravios which i haven't seen or played looks identical to Rathain + rocks.. As a Character modeler i know how easy it is to simply copy paste and move few polygons to make it different

    I don’t like either. Both are boring and Basarios is especially boring in rise as the game is supposed to be fast paced but basarios says no. Also I think giving him sleep and poison attacks feels out of place like they were just slapped on to him last minute. I think
