Very clean work. I'm in the middle of an Alumacraft 1448 mod myself right and videos like this should be inspiring me but I mostly get depressed because I like the craftsmanship to pull off a build that nice lol. Can't wait to see the finished product!
Amazing job! Looks better than what any factory would had done. But If it where mine I would had at least came back to where the front bench seat used to be on that front deck. Just a tad bit bigger would of been awesome. Still pretty sweet tho!
336 Outdoors Thanks I appreciate your input! I wanted to maintain having enough space for dual seat mounts and cooler/tackle. I take the wife and kids out quite a bit and coming that far back wouldn’t have left enough space. Plus it would have been heavier.
Thanks man! I've been keeping up with your boat build and videos. I finished the boat and took it out last weekend. Working on the final video right now.
Yessir. I designed the supports so the span of the plywood was well within recommended load rating for the grain orientation. See my Part 4 and 5 videos for better shots of the finished deck.
@@Forker45 unfortunately my attention to detail isn’t like your, but I can’t wait to another one. I’ve done 2 so far and even though they didn’t turn out as nice as yours they were still fairly fishable.
Yeah I guess so Lowe’s and Home Depo don’t have any thing but steel which rust real bad but anyway I mounted the two aluminum ones today and they seem to be find now that there all buttoned down.
Wayne Casper It came from amazon but it’s showing not available. I used 0.042” thick, 1-1/2” open width, 3/32” pin, 1/2” knuckle in 7’ length it was less than $10 a couple years ago. You might have some luck searching around.
@@Forker45 that’s where I got started on this. Doing my first boat 20 yrs ago. Only problem was back then I was in such a hurry to get it on the water, I didn’t bother to weatherproof it. You can guess where that went
grady vago it’s all 1/2” ply (maybe actually 15/32” but same thing) it’s all about the direction of the grain and the span of the supports underneath. Thanks and I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
One of the best Jon boat conversions I've seen (also saw your post on tinboats forum). Quick question: when installing the piano hinges, do you fasten them over the carpet or fasten directly to wood and carpet around them?
MrCeej1791 Rustoleum professional enamel cut 50/50 w acetone to help it penetrate the wood. There's several threads on tinboats with guys doing similar wood painting/sealing
MrCeej1791 Yeah I wouldn’t want to do it with a resin. The cut enamel was easy to just paint on in 3-4 coats. It’s holding up great from what I can tell on underside of hatches.
I understand it is tough. I have a “master” straight board that I clamped in place and used as a fence for my saw. Use it on every cut you make even short ones and everything will be nice and straight. Also using a specific plywood blade made the cuts much easier and smoother vs a standard or even one with carbide tips. Edit: just watched and noticed I used a piece of square tube in this case but it’s the same idea. In general for most saw cuts I’ll clamp something in place for a fence.
Just Fishing Yeah I separated them with coroplast sheet secured to the framework. I also covered them w carpet on ones for the front and side hatches. Check out the final assembly video and I go over the hatch areas up close.
NT Check tinboats for a lot of info on wood sealing painting. I used acetone / paint combo in reducing concentration of acetone. It’s all up to you depending on how wet it will get and if you store outside etc.

Nice look, you are a craftsman.

Forker45 that’s true also. Regardless you done a awesome job. I wish I could afford to pay you to do mine for me
This boat looks great man. Nice work with the aluminum. Can't wait to see it finished. I will definitely subscribe.

Looks good bro.nice work.

Nice work
Thanks
Nice work👍
MrEzplay Thanks!
Would those side hatches support a person’s weight if necessary

@@Forker45 that was a ridiculously sweet build. Nice job my man

Yeah I guess so Lowe’s and Home Depo don’t have any thing but steel which rust real bad but anyway I mounted the two aluminum ones today and they seem to be find now that there all buttoned down.
And what kind of paint did you se
Rustoleum Professional Smoke Gray Gloss. I laid it down in multiple coats with first few coats cut with mineral spirits to help penetrate the wood.
@@Forker45 excellent. Thanks for the advice
Where did you find the stainless piano hinges at
Wayne Casper It came from amazon but it’s showing not available. I used 0.042” thick, 1-1/2” open width, 3/32” pin, 1/2” knuckle in 7’ length it was less than $10 a couple years ago. You might have some luck searching around.
The hinges are they aluminum or stainless
Wayne Casper They are stainless hinges.
is that square aluminum frame or 2x2 wood?
The frame is all aluminum.
I might have asked you this before but what kind of paint did you use for this
Rustoleum Professional Smoke Gray Gloss. Brushed in several stages cut with mineral spirits to soak in and seal the wood.
@@Forker45 awesome. Thanks for the response. Awesome build
@@Forker45 apparently Home Depot has it for $38 a gallon. Not bad
Yep that’s it. Glad to help out. If you check tinboats forum there’s quite a few threads on how guys lay it down.

Thanks I got some aluminum ones and there real flimsy
Any hinge videos
Sorry to bother you again but what kind of paint did you use on this build again. Specifically what brand
No bother. I used Duralux Aluminum Boat Paint M736 Aluminum Boat Green. I ordered from Home Depot online but it looks to be unavailable from them now.
@@Forker45 good deal. Thanks
How thick is the plywood.???? It looks thicker than 1/2". Man, an elephant wont make that boat flex...great Job and thanks for the video.

Did you make the foot pan or buy it
JIM FOGEL I built the tray from aluminum sheet
@@Forker45 ok I have access to aluminum at work and a welder did you weld yours or did you use a brake press to bend it
JIM FOGEL I don’t have a brake so I welded it from 5 pieces. I used 1” angle around the top edge like a flange and welded the tray inside that.
@@Forker45 thanks gives me kind of a plan of what I want to do then I'll try to weld one up this week
JIM FOGEL Ok good deal. If you check out my thread on tinboats forum there’s a little more detail there that could be helpful.
What type carpet and where did you buy it
Dale Bergeron it’s just the standard indoor outdoor carpet from Home Depot
One of the best Jon boat conversions I've seen (also saw your post on tinboats forum). Quick question: when installing the piano hinges, do you fasten them over the carpet or fasten directly to wood and carpet around them?
Jack Buhain I pilot drilled the wood before carpeting and installed after.
What did you used for welding the aluminum? Thanks
MrEzplay Miller Diversion 180 TIG machine
Great video! What was the purpose of painting the wood before you carpet it?
MrCeej1791 Thanks! I painted the wood to seal it for protection from moisture and prevent it from rotting out.
Forker45 makes sense. What kind of paint did you use?
MrCeej1791 Rustoleum professional enamel cut 50/50 w acetone to help it penetrate the wood. There's several threads on tinboats with guys doing similar wood painting/sealing
Forker45 thanks for the info. I’ve seen a lot of guys using epoxy resin but it doesn’t look easy to work with.

Your video says decking carpet install. Why are you discussing amp and stereo and wiring.
It was part of the deck install. Thanks!
