This drive starts out on I-80 in Davis, Ca driving over the Yolo Causeway then entering into Sacramento, Ca. Finally ending at South Lake Tahoe with a great view of the lake.
Sacramento is the 6th largest city in California, the largest city within Sacramento County, and is the capital of California. This city is also known as the "River City, Capital City, and the City of Trees". By locals, it is referred to as "Sac, Sactown, Sacto".
Lake Tahoe stretches between the California and Nevada border. It is the 2nd deepest lake in the United States, the largest freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevadas, and the largest alpine lake in North America.

I used to work in Gaithersburg--at least my office was there, since I only actually worked out of the office eight weeks a year, on the road (by air) for them the rest of the year, visiting my folks in California or my home in Phoenix when I was not on the road.
I stayed at the Holiday Inn near a small indoor mall in Gaithersburg--saw The Fugitive in that mall and "Forrest Gump" at a nearby outdoor mall where my colleagues and I listened to Reggae on weekends, and where I later stayed in '08 on another business trip.
I loved Maryland--after Arizona, California and Nevada, I spent more time there than any other US state except Illinois.
I found it cool there that US 50 ended there, and of the three DC airports, Baltimore was always my favorite, Dulles my second, and National a distant third.
I loved the city of Baltimore, and also loved visiting the DC mall every weekend while I visited our Maryland office. Maryland and Virginia are my favorite East Coast states, with Connecticut where I have family a third.
I worked in Roanoke for a two month contract in '14 but did not have enough time to see my several friends in Maryland, some of whom I've known for 30 years now. Two have since moved to Arizona---they complained too much about "The Snow Days" in DC and Maryland.
You are blessed--you live in a great state with the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of working with and knowing, a place I owe my marriage to and the blessing of my daughter, since I worked out of Gaithersburg when I met my wife in '94, then moving her to Phoenix.

This came up on recommendations. I listen to 10 hour videos of plane engines, fans and electric heaters to sleep to. I might add this to my sleep playlist cuz the sound is awesome

My grandparents had a homestead in West Point, CA, and I used to drive Hwy 88 and 89 into South Lake Tahoe regularly. 80 is the far easier route, but there are some cool views and fun things to see if you take 88 out of Jackson.
If you get the chance, drop by the Schaad campground property in Wilseyville the November weekend before Thanksgiving for the annual Hare Scrambles motorcycle race.

Greetings from Ocean City, Maryland! We have the opposite sign on Rt50 that says "Sacramento 3073 miles". I hope to visit CA someday. 😊

It is such a beautiful drive. Great video. I got queasy driving the route though. They really should have guard rails on all parts of the road.

I totally agree with you. I would feel safer during the drive if more were added.

No way, guard rails take away from the beauty and increase negative environmental impact. We have very few incidents of going over the edge up here 👍
