Fantastic video, Jupiter! I have a question, how do you deal with the post-thru hike blues? I tend to become depressed for months after a thru-hike; knowing it's over and feeling like it went in the blink of an eye, returning to work, etc. I know it sounds dumb but I've stopped planning thru-hikes for years now as I just can't deal with the taxing duality of going between 'real life' and life on the trail, I don't even like thinking about past trips as the bittersweet feeling you mentioned is so intense.

@@ApeMan Jupiter is the man! Im into him as probably others are as well, not just for the hiking but the intangibles. I don't know but I expect that he can take a pretty good punch and not even change his expression. Think Cool Hand Luke. I come from a much more "reaction like" past. To me, perusing ultralight backpacking, and wanting to BE LIKE JUPITER is to learn a much more chill existence. Backpacking as you know will punch you in the face. I want to be able to take that punch and walk right through it smiling. I'm getting there.
And to your question. Not likely. Im closer to your age one of the guys in the world who really are happily married. Thats just too much time away. I figure I could die of old age before running out of awesome places to hike just in the sierras. I'll see you there one day

    PART 6 Post Trail Depression
Either have a plan to keep yourself busy, or you might sell everything you own to do it again. Or you may spiral into a state where you dont know what you've just accomplished but you want to do it again more than anything else, even though you might not be able to. Know yourself, and have a recovery plan for when it's over.

    • @JupiterHikes

I did most of the trail, but had to skip NorCal from Reno up to Washington border, a decision I had to make due to money and time.. anyways... the years passed and somehow the trail keeps calling my name. 2023 will be my second thru hike attempt. 4 year anniversary - once a hiker always a hiker ❤🙏

I think a lot of that is greatly alleviated by keeping very active! On a thru hike we have so many endorphins flowing, so through physical activity and a continuation of an adventurous lifestyle (even if they are smaller adventures) much of the post trail depression things can be helped in big ways.
