I've played Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game, and I loved it. I am so excited for this when I pick it up. And I know it works for me, I also think for completionists, it isn't that great. But during 2020, we played via Zoom and it worked amazingly.
My last session of Chronicles of Crime ended with the realization I needed to keep notes. I didn't really want to have to keep notes. It's definitely on its way out of my collection.
One big bug bear I have with the game is the online element. It's a series of text files and a quiz at the end. It could have easily been pure paper and not used the web at all, by using the online they limit the lifespan of the game ;/
I can see that if you didn't like Chronicles of Crime that you also wouldn't like this system. For me, the original Detective, A Modern Crime Drama, is a masterpiece. I wouldn't compare this style of game to Unlock or Exit. Detective games are a different genre that apparently you don't like, haha. Detective: City of Angels, Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective, and even the Graphic Novel Sherlocks from Van Ryder are better comparisons.
@@windbane69 I like chronicles of crime, I haven't tried any of the others you've mentioned. I have a hard time buying games without much replayability
Just curious, why is this not a 2/5 on your scale, but rather you just decide not to rate/review it? It's a game that you're not saying is bad per se, but just you don't want to play again. So, 2/5?
A fair question. Practically speaking it's a 2 out of 5, the difference between this and other games I have reviewed...is that games like Pipeline I feel I should like but don't. This game I don't feel like I should like...I feel like what they're trying to do just would never be something I like.
The original Detective, LA Crimes, and Season One are the ones I have played, and I assure you, none of them are shit. Some people just don't like certain mechanisms. Note taking is not required, but it certainly helps do better. He doesn't like that. Most people who have played the series have, though. Look at the bgg ratings.
I really don't think so though, especially given the fact that it's based on a series of games that are well liked by many. I think it's just a style I really don't like.

The lack of replayability kills this for me
So you don't like any detective/mystery/escape room games?

Well if your not the target, I'm not the target, I will stay loyal 💪;)
Glad you said I'm safe for today, let those reviews coming 😁
:)
I'd play it. But, I won't buy it.
That's fair
Let’s just say it how it is Alex. It’s a shit game. We gotta be able to say it.
