And here I thought I was clever opening screenshots in MS Paint, laboriously converting them to line drawings, printing and cutting them apart to glue onto a block of hard foam, which I then carved down to a static replica, then added details to. I have got to buckle down and learn Inkscape. It looks like just what I need.
I really like how there are different Manufacturers of weapons in Starfield and they all feel very different. The Rattler is an awesome design and I'm also very fond of the Razorback. But my favorite weapon in game has to be the actual best gun I've encountered, the Big Bang energy shotgun. It looks so bulky and retro, which I find awesome and very different, and I hope someone makes one soon enough.
Once the Starfield Creation Kit is out you could almost certainly just lift the in game models out and work from those but in the mean time this certainly does the job!
The Rattler uses .27 Caliber ammo in game. Since caliber is the inner diameter of the barrel, I'm really curious if they accurately modeled that in game. Could scale your model entirely around the front shot of the barrel if so.
One thing I do sometimes is capturing a turn around of the object, as many different view angles as possible, then export a bunch of screenshot and send the pictures to Meshroom. There, photogrammetry creates the 3d mesh. ;)
IMO, and maybe viewed shady by some, but if it's used just for reference it's the same as goin in the game and screenshot it, is to use Ninja ripper, get the mesh and textures from any game, import in your DCC app of choice, blender, max maya, etc, and remodel it in high poly for print and stuff.
If you can get your hands on the 3D model, that can be crazy useful. At the time of recording this video nobody had figured out how to get Starfield models yet, but that has changed, as you'll see in the next video.
@@punishedpropsOh I guarantee you that will change. Bethesda generally has very favorable mod support and their are mod tools for their older games that make exporting models pretty easy but they aren't always perfect. There are even more frowned upon methods like scrubbing through system or gpu memory and ripping assets from that.
You've done videos before on how to create a 3d model from multiple photographs. Could you not get a 3d model from screenshotting the view being rotated when inspecting a weapon?
I used to get bags of popcorn from Nuts on Clark every time I went through O'hare but I think the 2020/21 shutdowns ended their business in the terminal... Where did you get the sign?
do you think you could play with the files of the revolver with the moving cylinder and working trigger so it could be placed in squals classic gunblade from final fantasy viii? i would love to make that!
@@punishedprops do you mean the Vash the Stampede? i am about to buy it and try to combine the inner mecanism with a gunblade. if you mean another file, can you please tell me how to find it so i can see if i can buy that one instead? oh, and if its possible, could you scan somehow the highlander hilt so we (i mean me XD) can print one? i really miss your videos but i know its hard to make and you need time for a life as well so i hope you keep posting on youtube for years to come thanks for reading
I really liked your Satisfactory helmet video and I'm looking into getting better at modelling stuff. But would grabbing a lot of screenshots and import them to a photogrammetry program work out or am I missing something? Please make a Grendel at some point, I would absolutely love to have a prop Grendel!
@@punishedprops Sounds like you have an idea for your next video. As far as I can understand the "background" would be perfectly isolated and you should be able to add a "picture" from any angle you want, at least in Starfield, so it should work. But I might be wrong.
At the time of recording this video nobody had quite figured out how to get the 3D models out of Starfield, but that has changed. You'll see in our next video.
The Rattler has been one of my favorite weapons!
Heck yeah! 😄
To resize the Inkscape page precisely before you export the image, Select all (CTRL+A) and then resize the page to your selection with CTRL+SHIFT+R.
Awesome! Thanks so much for the tip.
Awesome, always a pleasure to see your workflow Bill!
Thanks!
A great start. I love my blade runner blaster from your files. and look forward to this.
Excellent! I’ve 3D modeled most of it by now and you’re going to love printing this one.
I haven't played the game, but I'm very impressed with the detail they put into the weapons.
They really did a bang up job on all the designs.
Nice to see the step-by-step!
For future reference, the hot key for snippet is Win+shift+s
Awesome, thanks for sharing!

Can't wait for the next video. Love your 3D modeling vids.

Too many good ones to pick from! The Razorback is way up there for me too.

We will have to keep our eyes peeled.
Thanks for showing us ✅✌🏼
You're welcome!
😳 why did I not think of that step! (Using image of hand to scale model)
Great tips thank you 😁❤
*goes back to watching*
You’re welcome!
I got into 3D modelling and printing from watching your videos and have also just been working on a model of the Deadeye revolver!
Ooh that's SO exciting!
Great tips, thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome!
as soon as I saw that starfield was gonna have chunky space revolvers I knew you were either gonna choose this or the razorback
I am *rather* predictable. =D
Weapon design is top notch in this game. I personally love the modular design of the Magpulse.
It SO good.
As soon as i saw this in starfield i knew you were gonna make it
You know me! =D
@@punishedprops now that i have a 3d printer i want a crack at the deadeye revolver
shortcut for the snipping tool is win+shift+s btw. usefull to know
Great tip!
Fusion 360 allows Imperial measurements in fact when you send it to Cura in 3MF it will come out the correct size for mm
Thanks!
Thats amazing.
Great video
Thank you!

In the game files the barrel and suppressor have different diameters, so I wouldn’t count on them being reliable for scaling.

I was trying to google for it. Do you mean meshroom not mushroom?
ahahaha yes autocorrect :D sorry about that.

That’s so cool!
Such a great and helpfull Video^^

I'm with you here mate, I found a random knife in game yesterday that I will be 3D modelling once I have a day off from work
Yes! I want to make everything.

win+shift+s should speed up that snipping tool action a bit
Fantastic tip, thanks!

It would be super interesting trying to use screenshots for photogrammetry.
That's kinnda cool. Will you also be doing any of the weapon mods also?
So far I’ve made the suppressor.
Awesome possum!
I was hoping there would be a Starfield video ! While the rattler isn't my favourite, I prefer the Razerback
I really like the Razorback too! There's too many amazing designs to pick from.
Every new big game release is a chance for more crafting and a nifty new hand cannon!
Heck yeah! 😄
Awwwwww yeahhhh
Wooooo!
I've been sucked into the loading screens!
can you not just grab the 3d files in the game files?
When we recorded this video nobody had figured out quite how to get the 3D files. That has changed and you’ll see that I. The next video.
Is that "Calibrate" feature in Fusion new? So many times in the past I've been fighting with scaling and aligning canvases :D
It's been around for a few years at least. It's one of my favorite features.
@@punishedprops Oops 😅
Why don’t you use a model ripper
Why not just capture the model from the game's graphic cache? I did that with Elite Dangerous weapons

btw with bethesda games specifically you can very easily rip the models from the files for printing

In Fallout 4 i have around over 1300 hours 😂 Starfield around 6 hours got it from yesterday

Built-in Windows snipping tool shortcut. There hasn't been a reason to launch the old tool in over a decade brother.

Just rip the models out of D3D memory lol
