"Badges? We ain't got no badges! We don't need no badges! I don't have to show you any stinking badges!" Very cool. Reminds me of the time I made a S.H.I.E.L.D agent Badge for my Agent Cosplay (I went as Agent Clay Quartermain, who unfortunately never showed up in the MCU).
If you want badges without the plastic holder, it's a great way to use old hotel keycards that you forgot were in your pocket when you checked out. Print out your badge on label paper, stick it to the front of the keyboard, and use a nail file to make sure the edges of the paper are flush with the plastic.
I so wish you had posted this a couple weeks ago. I would have made my husband Jurassic Park Ranger badge for DragonCon. Love the video and can’t wait to use the tips for the future!
I did a project like this with 150 kids at a VBS 2 summers in a row, like 10 years ago. The kids LOVED it and it was a waterproof ID that helped us ID the kids and they were super excited and invested. We used clip art instead of doing pictures of 150 kids in a single day… yeah, I’m not that crazy! But I’ve had kids who told me years later they still had it. 😅
Maybe I can share better screenshots of the film? I can also confirm that the text under the TGRI logo is the title and name of the scientist. Then looks to indeed be an ID number.
I've used Inkscape to draw up circuit layout before, now ... *evil laugh* ... cosplay stuff 😁 It is really good to use. 🤔 ... I did use it to make a stencil for tattoos (cosplay only) that I then sent to be cut 😊 So awesome video for those who didn't know.
Nice quick and useful tutorial! The results turned out great. (What good timing with the Inkscape tutorial promo too, I've been meaning to learn - Just bought a copy and I'll be digging into this soon)
Sense Inscape is free open source software with no paid version I assume you mean you wisely and generously chose to make a donation when you downloaded it?
@@brocktechnology - By "bought a copy", I was actually referring to the tutorial that Bill mentioned. But also, yes, I did donate when I downloaded Inkscape!
So I made some IDs once but not for cosplay or to get beer 😂 it was a fake school ID for my friend so he could get a student discount at the movie theaters. Being 20somethings, we needed to save cash anywhere we could 😂 So he was a proud student at CGNU! Kudos to anybody who knows what CGNU is.
Well, Bill... Thanks for filling my "Feeling Old" quota for the week...I remember seeing Secret of The Ooze _in the theater._ 👴 I'm packing for a move right now, and I came across that cold-cast copper Hearthstone logo from Britt's resin casting tutorial stream. Reminded me how much I always enjoyed hanging out with y'all on Twitch.
I would like to ask for some advice. I have seen you doing some vacuum forming and I have this half dome with 50cm in diameter that is made from polyester that I wanted to recreate out of plastic. My first idea was to make a silicone mold from the dome and then afterwards cast it out from concrete, so I can vacuum form as many I want. But it seems a bit big and heavy, so I wanted to know what your thoughts and execution would be.
Try taking a screenshot after disabling "hardware acceleration" in your browser. That generally stops video from going black on Netflix and other streaming sites, though I don't know about TH-cam specifically.
I believe you can disable that copy protect in chrome and last i checked firefox doesnt have the copy protect. But for quick reference your solution also works!
I have so many of those little badge holders (with lanyards) left over from when I bought a 100 pack to make small con trinkets. Maybe one day I'll find a way to use them up.
Hey, off topic I know, but if you haven't had your airducts cleaned (I couldn't see any access points in the trunkline at 1:08) you should think about it. It helps your air quality as well as your furnace's efficiency.
I'm pretty sure the originals were laminated yellow paper badgepunched through the plastic and paper at the top with the lamination's corners clipped, but yours look pretty good. its been forever since i've seen a good picture of the real ones though, a friend had an album of their work with some pics from when they worked on the first two movies, but that was like 20 years ago now I got to look through em so my memory's likely a bit rusty. they're in an entirely different industry these days because practical effects fell out of favor and our field got kinda crappy to be in if you wanted to do stuff like stay alive and eat, but i might have to bug em to see if they've still got their old album around to scan or something someday.
I tried looking thought the movies frame by frame at parts with the TGRI badge bit couldn't find a better frame with the logo. But It did look like the TGRI on the lab coats are stitched on with gold thread with a thin black outline around each letter.
For future reference, the W in most names in Afrikaans is pronounced as a V. So in the case of Wikus van de Merwe it would be pronounced Vikus van de Merve.
Sorry if this comes across a bit passive aggressive. 😬 it's not meant to. Love what you guys do and have learnt so much over the years watching your channel!
To be more realistic you should have a barcode on the back and some thing that looks like an electronic chip. The barcode should be a real barcode if someone scans it where your name shows up that’s on the front and your ID number with the company and then a message at the bottom with the company or organizational name with contact information to return the badge to if it’s lost. Should look very similar to the back of your drivers license, but don’t use that barcode because it’s got personal information. You don’t want to get out and you can put an advertisement for your TH-cam channel in the barcode for when people who scan it.
@@punishedprops does this also include the Windows Game Bar? (You can open it any time by Win+G) It has several build in tools also one for creating screenshots
I saw it as a challenge... I couldn't find a better image. 😄 BUT! I would use the Bio hazard logo. Seams more logik than a Atomic Logo Version. @@punishedprops
About screen shots - The snipping tool works fine for me, no copy protection. You just have to click and drag with your mouse pointer to select the area you want to "snip". Also, you could do the alt+print screen and then paste it into image editor of choice. Also works fine for me
Have you tried hiting Ctrl + print screen to grab a screenshot of whatever you're looking at and then you can control V into your photo program to grab a screenshot and bypass the copyright BS.
so would picking up a physical copy online or even in the five dollar dvd bin at walmart, they usually have the first three movies in the bargain bin and only one of em really belongs there. (the time travel one was SO bad, so gawdawful bad, even by 90's franchise movie standards) a DVD wouldn't have the horrible youtube video compression either so you'd be able to get better screenshots.

Oh yeah there are all kinds of great examples of "agent" badges. Agent Mulder and Scully come to mind immediately. =D

That's a really great idea!
That is SUPER clever. You could probably do this with old gift cards, too.
Awesome, you and Brit looked great. I've used Inkscape for so many of my cosplays. Your tutorial was the best
I love your dedication to getting it screen accurate even though you had parts that would be just fine.
It's always worth the effort.

The TGRI has logo is a bit heavier than that, but it's very close. It also has an outline of the TGRI going up and to the left kind of like a 3D look.
Maybe I can share better screenshots of the film? I can also confirm that the text under the TGRI logo is the title and name of the scientist. Then looks to indeed be an ID number.
I think it's literally
Name: Prof. Jordan Perry
ID: "9 digit number"

"Badges...We don't need no stinkin' badges!"

I think the I in TGRI is supposed to stand for Industries, not Institute.

Nor institue :)

She's such a lovable goofball.
That's weird, I just pulled up a movie on TH-cam and hit CTRL + ALT + PRT SC and it didn't copyright block it.
Interesting. What OS and browser are you using? Did you pick a movie that's officially on TH-cam, or one that was reuploaded?

Hopefully will be building a lifesize next year
Are you going to make one of the extra large Dandelions? Has a prop?
We sure are!
look like thin layer nylon dandelions - i have vinyl cutter and roughly 600 real name logo in vector file. and custom image futuristic name
I hope to run into you at some point! Unlike Adam Savage, at least I might recognize you! I love your channel!
We hang around the Marriott atrium most of the time.
Turn off hardware acceleration in chrome and you can screen cap

Btw there is an extension that allows you to download a screenshot of youtube videos
Oh fantastic!
Just hit print screen and then open up paint and hit ctrl + V and you have a sceenshot.
Unfortunately for some protected videos that won't work either.

It's Windows Key + Print Screen. Saves it directly to your hard drive.

We post our videos a couple days early for our patrons, so they get a chance to watch, like, and comment before the video goes live.

Of course, i didn't try renting a movie and then using the snipping tool but it should work anyway
You could do the entire printed part with MS Word. Then actually laminate them with an iron.
Great thinking!
i would have gone for Clearance Level C for Cat :-)
Haha! Great thinking. =D

Unfortunately the copy protection prevents that from working too.
Pirating the movie would avoid those annoying screenshot restrictions :P

You need to check the spelling of the word institute

It won't work if the video is copy protected.
