Trigger is one of the greatest TV characters ever created. Roger Lloyd-Pack was an amazing actor who played Trigger to perfection: the character could have been awful, but he made us empathize and love the character. Much missed.
Why has it never been popular in the US? Is it because the main characters are underclass, or because many Americans would have difficulty understanding the slang & cultural references?
Trigger is not “super clever” however occasionally, albeit inadvertently, makes a valid point. The best example was in “Tea for Three” when pointing out that even worse than being in a wheelchair for the rest of your life was being in one “with a squeaky wheel”. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂!
There is an episode where Del gets Raquel a singing gig at a local night club owned by a crime family, the punchline for the entire episode is Dels choice of song when the co-singer has a speech impediment. One of my favourite from the classics is Blue Danube.
Gustav Holst ‘Jupiter’ is one of my favourites. And it’s used in a patriotic English song called ‘I vow to thee my country’ which is also good. And it’s the theme for rugby union check it out
I'm a big fan of resident evil and moonlight sonata is like the unofficial anthem for that game franchise. Incredible piece of music 👍. Love that and Frédéric Chopin's "Raindrop" Prelude, Op 28, No. 15
Poor Lilian! She is cultured and I’m sure would love classical music access. Get her a streaming service Felipe. Rodney is trying to give the impression of being cultured, he has no depth of knowledge. Trigger is thick, it is a great act on the part of the actor.
My favourite chill out music is John Barry, or film soundtracks in general, so Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer and the like. My favourite classical is the obvious popular ones Greig, Holst, Elgar, Vivaldi, maybe some Bach and Beethoven, but never Mozart. I walked down the aisle to Bach's Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring - the karaoke version!
Moonlight Sonata is a great choice, though my personal fave would be Pachelbels Canon. I just find it puts me in a great mood, a kind of tranquil nostalgia.
Moonlight is my favourite piece of music of all time, followed closely my DSOTM (specifically Money). I don't know what is says about you Phillipe, you know your music I guess!
The next bit Racquel comes out and sits to put her lipstick on and Del walks out from the kitchen wearing a full sized clock on his wrist like a shield, it’s my favourite part of that episode.

Glenn Johnson I love your reactions to our UK programmes.May i suggest you look up The Arthur Haynes show,Tony Hancock and the Army Game.Archive shows, for sure but would be interested to see what you think.Watched these when i was younger. All the best.
S1 e2 of OFAH is called Go West Young Man & it's one of the better eps. Therefore, once you've watched the first 2 eps, you'll know whether or not you want to watch the rest. Some of the weakest eps of OFAH are in s1, but stick with it because it improves a lot. It's easy to see why it's the most popular UK sitcom.
Lilian needs a good stereo and a nice vinyl collection 😃 Felipe needs to hear some Oscar Peterson.. great jazz to unwind to.. I don’t like jazz but that is amazing.
I like Belle Chen, I think she might be from your neck of the woods Lillian. But I love watching her play. Also relaxing to Gavin Bryars - ‘Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet’ you might have to do a little homework to understand where he was coming from.
I like Moonlight Sonata too Felipe, a bit of Beethoven. I use to listen to Hooked on Classics as a kid, classical music with a beat lol. BTW Lillian isn't no Trigger! Lol 😂
Fools and horses is really a Class based comedy. They're solidly working class ppl that see the upper class as "where its at", and where they want to be, so they constantly pretend to be more classy than they are, and in so doing act in inauthentic ways. Thats where the comedy is, theyre all dissatisfied, except trigger who's to dumb to realise how unhappy hes supposed to be, so theyre always engaging in these pretentious charades and the comedy is when they bring each other back down to reality, mostly through taking the mick out of each other. Thats where we get our love of taking the p out of each other from, the class based tensions and pretensions, another good show to understand this is keeping up appearances (or faulty towers, dads army ect ect, its in most of our comedies) you really have tounderstand Class to get these comedies, I dont know if Americans have an intuitive understanding of it in the same way British ppl do.
I can play pink floyd (i do not do drugs)or Kraftwerk,Karl shultz,Tangerine dream, and many others in my mancave with headphones and close my eyes in complete darkness in the room ,now the trick is not to actually listen to the music ,i also used radio waves i use it to separate from the worlds noise ,just like people who use fans to settle down to sleep ,but i am not asleep or in touch with with myself emotions and not floating it is a experience of not existing either or any other world i am gone like all life is gone no light or dark or sound ,for a couple of hours depending when i get back of course, one day i might not but it is pure.
When I was a teenager back in the 60s I used to do the same, after coming home from a night out around 2 in the morning I’d lay on the floor light off and listen to VdGG ‘Plague of Lighthouse Keepers. I still do.
Dave was being pretentious and trigger is just dim. The only hidden-intelligence thing he did was perfectly remember the name of the piece. But I think that was just a device by the writers to have him rob Dave of showing off that knowledge to Dell.
His wife Raquel is a big character actually. Over the seasons they both settled down with the whole story of them meeting their partner's leading to marraige and more. You really should watch the whole series rather than react to short clips.
John Sullivan lifted so many scenes and lines and situations from Galton and Simpson's "Steptoe and Son". But the one thing Sullivan couldn't do, that Galton and Simpson could do perfectly, was pathos....whenever Sullivan tried, it came out feeling false, and twee. For example: in the movie of Steptoe and Son, Rita comes back for one last try at reconcilliation with Harold, which was doomed to failure of course with Albert being there. And Albert says" haven't you hurt him enough?" and Rita says "Yes I have hurt him. But I have only hurt him once. You have been doing that to him all his life". John Sullivan wanted to write something as clever as that, but he never could, because he couldn't write pathos.
Raquel is lovely. And very much a member of the later shows. Damien's mother!
Trigger is one of the greatest TV characters ever created. Roger Lloyd-Pack was an amazing actor who played Trigger to perfection: the character could have been awful, but he made us empathize and love the character. Much missed.
He played a similar role in the final episode of Private Schultz.
Love the running gag where Trigger calls Rodney ‘Dave’.
As in ‘They’re going to call the baby Rodney after Dave.’ 🤪
Trigger doesn't play major roles in storylines, but many of the things he says - often due to his inability to understand - are hilarious.
you really need to watch more only fools and horses My wife is American and loves it
Why has it never been popular in the US? Is it because the main characters are underclass, or because many Americans would have difficulty understanding the slang & cultural references?
@@andrewjones575 sorry Andrew i cant see where i asked that question i know about the US i lived there and i am married to an American

1981.... Till...... 2003 so it was around for a long time
Yes, much longer than the vast majority of UK sitcoms. Also, many of its eps are much longer than usual for a sitcom.
The Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams.
i love this show so much

RIP Trigger. Uk comedy legend
Try classic FM Radio if you dont want to buy music.
You've seen Raquel in the clip where uncle albert had to look shocked.
I read this and couldn't help but do the shocked sound Albert makes.
.
Ooaaaaahhhhh
I'm a big fan of resident evil and moonlight sonata is like the unofficial anthem for that game franchise. Incredible piece of music 👍. Love that and Frédéric Chopin's "Raindrop" Prelude, Op 28, No. 15
Ludovico Einaudi is great to unwind to after a hard days work in the office - or at home!
Bach - Air on a G String is pretty relaxing
Called my Jack Russell Dave his 13 now he has kennel cough at the moment
Poor Lilian! She is cultured and I’m sure would love classical music access. Get her a streaming service Felipe. Rodney is trying to give the impression of being cultured, he has no depth of knowledge. Trigger is thick, it is a great act on the part of the actor.
Vivaldi's Four Seasons is exquisite, espeially the CD by Nigel Kennedy.
My favourite chill out music is John Barry, or film soundtracks in general, so Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer and the like. I don't know what is says about you Phillipe, you know your music I guess!
Which episode is this from?
Oh yeah Raquel is in it a lot, she’s in basically every episode from the beginning of the 90s
Obviously Lillian doesn't watch it very much.
You should watch Raquel's birthing scene. So funny!!
Unwind! Immerse myself in I’m not in love by 10cc! Sound washes over you! 😙😊
Yeah, you do get to see Raquel, just not in this clip, she features relatively heavily in the latter episodes.
She does put a little weight on as it progresses but that's a bit harsh!
@@jonsmith20766 Ouch!
The next bit Racquel comes out and sits to put her lipstick on and Del walks out from the kitchen wearing a full sized clock on his wrist like a shield, it’s my favourite part of that episode.
I listen to classical jazz to unwind: Miles Davis, Chet Baker, John Coltrane. AB
Considering its great popularity in the UK & moderate popularity in many European countries, its surprising that few YT channels react to OFAH.
Lol....I heard the stomach rumbling.
Watching Only Fools and Horses over the years (like you never grew up on it), nope Trigg is just that thick.
the is lots of classical music on Spotify
Yes del and rodneys wives are in the series later on.great reaction 👍🏻

Thomas Tallis to relax to.
Handel/Bach/ (baroque in general).
No ads on my youtube channel. Just subscribe & you can listen to anyone from Tallis to Britten to .... whoever you like.
❤️
My favorite classical music is Adagio For Strings
C'mon Felipe! The Adagietto from Mahler's 5th Symphony for relaxation, surely?
I'm glad Only Fools & Horses are one of your favourites! It's British Gold. You do get to see Raquel. Her story is classic!
Yeah both Dates and Jolly Boys Outing are classic episodes. Two of my personal favourites.
Glenn Johnson I love your reactions to our UK programmes.May i suggest you look up The Arthur Haynes show,Tony Hancock and the Army Game.Archive shows, for sure but would be interested to see what you think.Watched these when i was younger. All the best.
Raquel becomes a regular in the series so you will see her

Yes I don't think A slow bus to Chingford or The Russians are coming are the best of episodes.
Try 'Spanish Guitar Cafe Music' . You will love it.
Check out the box set someone kindly gave to you. Raquel will appear in many of them.
There's Classic FM.
We DO see Raquel - she has a major role in the later episodes.
Get a radio no license required, plenty of classical on there.
Beethoven moonlight sonata is amazing

Groovy!
The music doesn’t matter, it’s all about Trigger who always called Rodney ‘Dave’ and wasn’t the sharpest tool in the box.
Can't beat some Only Fools and Horses. 👍If you play YT through the Vivaldi browser it's possible to block the adds.
Spotify free is free ! Stream away 👌
felipe would love Handel water music
Definitely Tchaikovski Marche Slave!
They look much older because this clip was one of the final 3 episodes that came after the millennium -
Quality

I still do it i use the music or radio wave sounds to get back like a beacon just in case.
Ok I just had a look at the vinyl copy and it was released in 1971. TD, great band. Radio wave sounds interesting?
Park far away from front of store as possible! Less chance on getting dents
No trigger is Dumb! Lillian is correct.
Unwind to Meditation.
I think Rodney is of average intelligence but he wants to be cultured. he wants to break out of the unsophisticated world he lives in with Del.
Dave was being pretentious and trigger is just dim. The only hidden-intelligence thing he did was perfectly remember the name of the piece. But I think that was just a device by the writers to have him rob Dave of showing off that knowledge to Dell.
Trigger's the only character who calls Rodney by his non-existent 'nickname' Dave.
Trigger always calls Rodney, Dave. He spends the entire first season telling him his name's Rodney, but then just gives up.
They’re going to call the baby Rodney…. After Dave. 😉
Thais Meditation.
Too short
Arioso
There is a theory that Trigger calls Rodney "Dave" because he knew Rodney in a previous life as Dave.
Rodney (Dave), by this season has a office job, working for his girlfriends father.
No that was much earlier in the series. This was from one of the last episodes, the one where Del goes on Jonathan Ross.
You know it’s not Dave, right?
His wife Raquel is a big character actually. Over the seasons they both settled down with the whole story of them meeting their partner's leading to marraige and more. You really should watch the whole series rather than react to short clips.
