I have been attending ballet classes for many years. With RAD teachers, a french teacher, and lastly, a Vaganova trained teacher who has stopped teaching beg. and intermediate classes. I recently went to a class with around 50 students. The school wanted us to pay a nonrefundable registration fee as well. I would be better off learning from the many TH-cam videos and taking online classes. I thank you for your videos. I will relearn everything and build up my confidence in centre work and head spotting.
I can see what you mean… There is A LOT to this class! I can also say that I have found many Absolute Beginners respond very well to this approach-following along, rather than trying to master every detail at first. At my NYC studio it typically takes 2-3 classes for the student to make substantial progress in their posture and begin applying the fundamentals of plié correctly. From there, everything else begins to take shape beautifully. My approach is designed to allow even Absolute Beginners to engage with the technique while also encouraging a sense of artistry and delight. And I have observed that the feelings of delight that come with moving to the music are far more motivating for newbies than the anxiety that often comes with trying to remember so many technical details, especially when first starting out. It’s a balance between offering the technical training and inviting the inner-ballerina out to play… I’m SO GLAD you are enjoying the challenge of this basic class!! 🙏👏🏻🥰🩰✨
@@everydayballet I am a complete beginner (went to my first adult class last week!) and I absolutely loved this video. It's very motivating to be trusted with adding in the artistry and delight of dancing for the sake of dancing - it dispels all the nerves about being too old to start, or not the right shape, or not coordinated enough, etc. Thank you for posting. I have never ever done ballet in my life, not even any other dance. I always loved watching ballet dancers and i love classical music. I tried following this video today and wow, my calves hurt so much! It was so amazing though! Ill definitely come back to your videos. I felt very elegant (even though i probably didnt look like it :D) Please keep posting ballet workouts for beginners :) thank you!
Oh, I’m so glad you tried ballet!!! The fact that you enjoy watching it and the music tells me that ballet is something that will nourish you body and soul! The calves are definitely a soreness hotspot-but that gets better as your legs and core become stronger. (In my opinion, the feelings of Grace and elegance that come from doing ballet outweigh any sore muscles!😘) I really hope you’ll continue doing ballet! Congratulations on doing your first class! 🎉🩰🎈👏👏👏 If you decide you want more structured step-by-step training, please check out my Ballerina Body programs at www.everydayballet.com/become-a-member I’d love to share even more of ballet’s grace, joy, and power with you! 💕🌸🩰 Kind regards, Tiekka
I'm so happy I found your class! I've always had a deep appreciation of ballet, but never dared taking a class due to knee injuries and cripplingly low self esteem, but I have a deep love of exercise and movement and it was amazing to take this class!!
Yay! I’m so happy you found it, too! One of the greatest joys for me as a teacher is creating an opportunity for people to connect with what lights up their heart through ballet. I hope you will continue to do what you love and allow it to heal your fractured self esteem and strengthen you in body and soul. Thank you for sharing-you’ve made my day! 🙏🥰✨💕🩰
Im sweating! But it feels good. Workibg on reclaiming my fitness and getting stronger after a few years whete chronic pain really knocked me down. I always loved ballet and this is a fun workout to add to the rotation.
Yes! Ballet seems like it wouldn’t be so challenging, but doing the moves correctly takes sooooo much strength and control-all while keeping poised and beautiful! This is what builds a Ballerina Body! 😘🩰✨
Thank you! These videos are so easy to follow, compared to other ballet exercise programs I've tried. You show us more thoroughly what to do and explain what we should feel. Very nice! My legs and posture feel better too. :)
I’m delighted you are enjoying my teaching style! Thank you for watching and for your appreciation and kind words! It makes me happy to share what I love about ballet! 🙏💕🩰🌸
Thank you so much for the great class! I have been doing ballet for four years now and have been en pointe for a year and I was looking for something to do with my mom (who has never done ballet). This was great for both of us and I could definitely feel it. Sometimes I think it is better to go back to the basics and really work on that technique!
How wonderful that you are sharing ballet with your mom! Yes, the basics are ALWAYS valuable to revisit. We professional dancers do it all the time. In fact, taking basic/beginner classes is a fantastic way to strengthen your technique, especially for pointe work. I’m so glad you enjoyed the class (together!). Thanks again for this morning class. I especially love Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King part. :D
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! Indeed It was funny 🙊 After the tendu exercise I wanted to scream: "please someone say bravo!!" 🤣 I love each and every class you give us 🙌🏼
Im so happy I've found you... Youre amazing and this video is incredible! As an absolute, complete newbie, the way you explain things, made me feel muscles that i didnt even know I had! Your gracefulnnes and lightness and connection to the music is contagious. But although i loved this video, i found it quite hard for someone who is absolutely at basic level! I wonder if you have any video similar to this one, but for a newbie with two left feet and little coordination but a strong will to learn 🥹
So glad you found me, too! If you are completely new and want a more thorough introduction, please do each of the videos in this playlist: Ballet Basics th-cam.com/play/PLndbff-Q6PM3D13wh5024yzBKCpPh2FKH.html Then go back to the class. I think you’ll find the more detailed instructions and ultra basic exercises from the playlist help! 🙏💕🩰✨
This is really nice I love it . I just need to look out for wrong postures ( im not experienced but maybe looking at you more closely i can correct some of them ) Update day 2 : i had a hard time woth the posture of my body i dont have a whole mirror around my dorm room so its hard to see my whole body and correct them as im watching you. I kinda clutching the bar but as you said we shouldnt so im kinda working on that . Neaely give up in the third work out because of my lack of balance but still continued . ❤❤
Wonderful! Doing ballet can help improve posture significantly-it just takes practice. And don’t worry about trying to look/be perfect with it. Good form develops over time. Mostly let yourself enjoy the beauty of the music and movements. Strengthening our joy is just as important! 💗🙏🩰
22 here and 3 months postpartum after having my first baby girl! This is my first time doing ballet again since I first got pregnant with her in March of 2023. Thank you so much for such a simple yet effective barre workout! 💪🩰
Thank you so much Tiekka 🥰 your videos particularly the whole-heartedly teaching inspire me to start the ballet, I love it and I start to see my body shape change with more strength!!! I particularly like this video very much 💕
Ballet looks so graceful i want to give it a try, complete beginner here, into sedentarism, with neck problems, weak muscles, bad balance of the body and no previous workout, also my posture is quite bad, do you think ballet can improve my posture?
Ballet will definitely help your posture! The important thing is to start slow. Try this video to begin: th-cam.com/video/BYOhU7MA-PQ/w-d-xo.html Then do this video (which can also be done seated): th-cam.com/video/DPlAL6IIk3Y/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps! 💕🩰
Thank you very much for this great video. I'm 53 years old woman and I play piano on ballet classes 30 years already, but I'm totally new in practising ballet by myself. Please tell me do we need to work abs and chests separetly with some another workouts, or just ballet alone is strenghtening those musscles too?
Hi! So glad you are enjoying ballet for yourself!! Ballet actually stretches and tones the entire back and upper body. The technique relies on core driven movements, so it strengthens the core and stabilizes the pelvis. In my classes, we begin by doing a standing core & posture exercise before proceeding to barre exercises. The funny thing is that you could do thousands of sit-ups and still not have the kind of core strength & stability that Ballet hones. It’s more a matter of how you use the core rather than the amount of isolated strengthening exercises. I’d say if you have a weak core then doing some extra core work may be beneficial for getting in touch with those muscles. Otherwise, ballet does a fine job of strengthening the core, chest, and back! 😊🩰✨
Thank you for making these videos!! I just came across you channel and am in love. I’ve never done ballet or barre but you made this very easy to understand and follow along with. I’m so excited to begin this new journey now! I live in NYC so I may have to sign up for a class in the studio!
Hi, I really am interested in learning ballet. I just don't have the money to actually take classes. You're actually the first TH-cam channel that gives me a feeling that I can pick up a bit of the ballet world without having to spend any money. I really enjoyed doing this class. I just find it very hard to keep my pelvis in the right position, I don't really even think I know how to keep it right (my buttocks are also kind of always pointing out 😅 so I feel a bit uncomfortable) Do you have any tips?
So glad you’re starting your ballet journey and that my videos are helping you! Regarding the pelvis… It’s the largest part and can take time to find the correct position. But keep working with awareness and it will happen! Make sure you don’t tuck it forward, but also try to imagine the tailbone lengthening down toward the floor. Assist this feeling by drawing in & up in the area below the navel. Finally, try to lengthen the fronts of the hips. All of these will help position the pelvis correctly. Just remember to be patient and kind with yourself because it also takes time to get it right. Hope this helps! 🙏🥰🩰✨
Thank you so much i love you🥺 you make it look so easy and you made me feel so powerful i loved this so much . My forever dream is to become a ballerina but im afraid im too old to start now (16) , is it possible to start learning ballet from now?
You’re welcome! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Yes-you can begin ballet at any age! Ballet will strengthen your body and mind and lift your spirits in all stages of life. I have students in their 70s & 80s. Starting in your teens is a great time to build good habits & graceful movements. Thank you so much for watching! 🥰🌷🩰
So glad you enjoyed it! Ballet is a wonderful workout that develops unmatched posture, core control, & beautifully developed legs. Of course I’ve been doing ballet for decades, but I still think it’s the best workout! 😘🥰🩰✨
I always wanted to start ballet to help my knees turn because my right one has always been turned to the center of the body.. idk how to explain this 😅 this is going to help me! Thanks
Thanks for watching! Proper turnout will strengthen the alignment of the legs to help with this. Just be sure to keep knees over toes at all times and be careful not to over-rotate the feet. Hope this helps!
This was so fun to do! I'm 27 and a complete beginner - after being denied lessons when I was young because of my body shape, I had a bitter feeling towards ballet but I couldn't shake off the feeling of wanting to try it and I'm glad I did! I'm so happy I found your channel and thank you for sharing your videos with us :) I'm having some difficulty lifting my leg to the side (25:13) - should I be doing other leg workouts to help me with this move?
I’m so glad you found my channel and are enjoying doing ballet! 👏🏻👏🏻🥰 It takes time to develop the strength, flexibility, and technique to lift the leg to the side, so don’t worry if your leg is low. The important thing is to try to maintain your posture and use your core as you extend the leg away. With practice and the unique combination of strength and flexibility that ballet trains into the body, lifting the leg to the side will begin to happen more easily. Ballet technique is what will strengthen you best to do ballet! 🥰 Hope this helps! 💕🩰✨
I'm following the video as best I can, but it's my hip on the side I'm standing on that's feeling tired rather than the backs of my legs, particularly in the first exercise; what might I be doing to cause this? I'm really enjoying these videos though!
It sounds like you're feeling your glute on your standing side in the turnout exercise. The glutes are big muscles that will work no matter what. Just make sure that 1. You aren't gripping the barre. 2. You aren't over-rotating your standing foot. 3. You aren't "sitting" in the hip, either to the back or side. A little less rotation of the standing foot may help you begin to access the upper part of the backs of the legs. I tell my students to feel like a knitting needle is gently poking them at the back of the leg (right underneath the butt). In addition to pulling up in your core, this will help you stand tall at the backs of the legs. But don't worry! It takes time to feel these things... Just keep practicing with the above in mind. Hope this helps! :-D
Awesome practice, and really fitted for absolute beginners, unless others I found! And oh my, it seems all so light and slow, but my heartrate went up like crazy so I had to often take breaks and breathe deep. The only thing I can suggest is to lower the music volume, it is way too loud compared to your voice. EDIT: I also have a question. In the first sequence I tended to lock the standing knee, which led to pain and I guess it's dangerous too, how do you avoid that?
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it! I’m still getting used to how to manage volume levels with my mic, so thanks for the suggestion-I’m working on it! 😊 Regarding your standing knee. It’s very important not to lock it! First, be sure you are not over-rotating the feet. See my Hoe to Turn Out Correctly video. Assuming you have correct foot alignment, you can avoid locking by bending the knee very slightly. This will further challenge the back of the standing leg as you do the exercise, just make sure the standing knee isn’t rolling forward. If you continue to experience discomfort in the knee, then back off and only do parts of the exercise that are comfortable on your knee. With time you will develop the strength to keep the knee well-aligned in turnout. Hope this helps! 😊🩰🌸
@@everydayballet Thanks so much for the answer! I did indeed watch the Turn Out video and I loved it, before that i was always forcing myself to turn the most possibile and it hurted, it's really fundamental life-saving advice! My natural turn out seems to be quite tiny and I always thought that was bad, before. What I find hard in keeping the standing knee bent is that it feels harder to keep it like that while sustaining weight, I tend to lock it back automatically and I have to be super aware to notice and correct it. But it may just be that I'm pretty heavy nowadays as well as the muscles not so strong.
ABSOLUTELY! Everyday Ballet is designed for every body--it doesn't matter if you are overweight at all! I really hope you will learn ballet, and I'm so glad you've been watching my videos! Thank you for this ballet barre. Please upload more complete barre.
Thanks for watching! I am working on a lot of new videos, so there will be more to come.
🎉🩰🎈👏👏👏 If you decide you want more structured step-by-step training, please check out my Ballerina Body programs at www.everydayballet.com/become-a-member

You are so kind to share ballet with us. I absolutely loved this. Thank you! ❤
Thank you for your kind words. You are so welcome! I’m delighted that you enjoyed it! 🙏💕🩰👏🏻
So glad you are reclaiming yourself and that my videos are helping you connect with your love of ballet! 👏🏻🎉🥰🩰✨
Thought this would be too easy. Pleasantly surprised! Calves are on fire! Surprisingly hard to keep hips still too! Will definitely do this again :)
Thank you for an inspiring class, and I am a beginner :) Wonderful that you used the Norwegian composer Grieg, In the hall of the mountain king!!!

Yay!!! 👏🏻🎉🩰🌸 So glad you found my channel!
Thank you so much for those absolute basics classes! I’ve always wanted to try ballet but was never brave enough to go to a class.
You're very welcome! I'm glad you are trying ballet! :-D
If you’re looking for more ballet you can do at home, my Ballerina Body programs are made for home ballet practice. Here’s a link in case you’re interested:

Im so happy I've found you... Youre amazing and this video is incredible! As an absolute, complete newbie, the way you explain things, made me feel muscles that i didnt even know I had! Your gracefulnnes and lightness and connection to the music is contagious.
But although i loved this video, i found it quite hard for someone who is absolutely at basic level! I wonder if you have any video similar to this one, but for a newbie with two left feet and little coordination but a strong will to learn 🥹
So glad you found me, too! If you are completely new and want a more thorough introduction, please do each of the videos in this playlist:

This is really nice I love it . I just need to look out for wrong postures ( im not experienced but maybe looking at you more closely i can correct some of them )
Update day 2 : i had a hard time woth the posture of my body i dont have a whole mirror around my dorm room so its hard to see my whole body and correct them as im watching you.

Try this video to begin: th-cam.com/video/BYOhU7MA-PQ/w-d-xo.html
Then do this video (which can also be done seated): th-cam.com/video/DPlAL6IIk3Y/w-d-xo.html

@@everydayballet I am truly thankful for your comment and your help, thank you so much!

you truly radiate with elegance, thank you for this wonderful learning material!
Thank you for your kind words! I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos!
@@everydayballet ok, thank you very much. ❤️🌹
Thank you for posting! I really liked how you explained everything!

Thank you for making these videos!! I just came across you channel and am in love. I’ve never done ballet or barre but you made this very easy to understand and follow along with. I’m so excited to begin this new journey now! I live in NYC so I may have to sign up for a class in the studio!
You're so welcome! And CONGRATULATIONS on starting on your ballet journey! It would be awesome to see you at the studio sometime! Happy Summer!
@@everydayballet thank you for answering i'll be sure to work on that🙃
Thank you so much i love you🥺 you make it look so easy and you made me feel so powerful i loved this so much .

Excellent ballet lesson
Many thanks!
Hope this helps! 💕🩰✨
This is sooo amazing
I’m so glad you found my channel! No one should feel badly about doing ballet! Please keep learning and dancing! 🙏💖🩰🌸

@@everydayballet I enjoyed it so much!!!!!
Yay!!! 👏👏👏🥰🩰💖
Just make sure that
Regarding your standing knee.
Thank you so much! This was incredible!
You're so welcome! I'm delighted you enjoyed it! Ballet is and should be a joy. :-D
