A nice video and very informative! Under the St. Sofia chirch there is a very interesting museum of catacombs (in situ, the nicropolis of Serdica with an older and smaller chirch, above which was build that big one). I recommend also the Archeological museum on the front of the president building, direct placed on the one side of the national bank. The St. Georg rotonda circh in the inner courtyard of the president building have to be seen too, at least from outside. Best!
Great video, Ron! I hope you know that you’re welcome back any time you want! Make sure to experience our cuisine too. I’m sure you’d love it! Peter, a Bulgarian who’s had the chance to spend time in your country and loves everything about it.
Sofia was chosen for capital because is in the centre of the Balkans and back than when is chosen arround 1880s-ish Bulgarian politicians were thinking that a Balkan slavic federation will be formed and Sofia will be the capital of this federation, but things didnt went this way and this federation became Yugoslavia with capital Belgrade, wich is also Bulgarian city, hungarians called it the Bulgarian white city, not to speak that the city of buda(from budapest)was also Bulgaria,(when hungarians speak for the ancient times arround the 9-10th century they say since the Bulgarian times😃)but our first emperor Simeon the great displace the hungarians from the north of the black sea to panonia, where they live now,and gave them this lands in order to serve as federats,of a buffer population to guard us from the attacks from the franks,it is written that when Simeon father became head of state" clouds of franks attacked Bulgaria,so Serbia,Hungary,Macedonia, northern Greece and big parts of romania were created on our lands, even Romanians used our language in administration and they had 60% Bulgarian words up to the 19th century
Serdika(sofia)became a part of the Bulgarian state in 809 a.d. taken from our ruler Khan,or prince, there is debate about the title, krum the dreadfull, who doubled the size of Bulgaria and our lands reach present day Budapest,Sofia was and is,important strategic city, for the conquering of Macedonia, wich was populated by bulgars and slavs and the fabric of the population there was the same as in Bulgaria and later was conquered and even ohrid in Macedonia was a capital of Bulgaria for half a century or litle more, krum is known for this that he made a drinking cup out of emperor nikiforus genikus of the byzantene empire scull, because he offered him peace but nikiforus rejected the offer and krum famously said "when you dont want the pax(peace)you will have my axe"....he killed not one but two emperors in one battle, cause nikiforus son stavrakius became emperor after the battle(varbica pass-there is documentary in TH-cam very interesting about the battle of varbica pass)but die litle later from his wound from the battle, his father said when the bulgarians enveloped the byzantene army"even if we had wings dont lie to yourself that you will escape alive"😂😂

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
As always, a superb video. I love a city with a well developed and maintained transit system and it looks as if Sofia is one of those cities. 👍🏻👏🏻✌🏻
It is! Sofia is what I would call "right sized" and from what I've seen has stayed out in front of its infrastructure needs.
