    I’m interested to see how this new development cycle ends up turning out.

    My biggest concern about this change is that it may fragment the mod ecosystem. Whenever we get an update it usually takes a few weeks for all the mods you want to play to get updated. More frequent updates means a shorter development cycle for maintainers, which may be too much when most maintainers are already working for free. Many players rely on mods for additional content after playing this game for 15 years and servers need mods to have functional servers. The current update cycle gives maintainers sufficient time to update their mods without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. If the update frequency increases, it could lead to many mods falling behind from the current version and servers opting not to update, and requiring players to play on stable versions of the game. This could result in a less stable and enjoyable experience for both players and server operators, threatening the game’s mod-based community that has been vital to its longevity and success.

      Yeah that’s definitely fair. My guess as to what will happen is that most modders are only going to update their mods for versions with major changes and ignore the smaller updates.

      i loves mods and i don’t want this to hurt mod creators but i don’t think game devs should prioritize how mod devs mod their gave over how they develop their OWN game

      @@sebbysebbingtonI think it’s fair to remember most of the Minecraft Java community play some form of modded; even if it’s minimap and JEI, Java players rely on modded heavily. Plus it would affect addons on bedrock too quite frankly - and affect majority of servers as like 80% of servers use PLUGINS which are basically server side modifications that in fact, get updated for specific VERSIONS of the game. More versions = more stress for plugin creators to update = servers get less updated because plugins aren’t being updated

      I feel like when 90% of the content is coming from the modding community, you have more of a modding platform than a game. The same is true with Roblox, Skyrim, etc. It's already the case that Minecraft updates are more about new mechanics rather than the actual content associated with it. People weren't excited for the allay because it's a cool companion, they were excited because now we have a way to sort unstackables. When they add content that doesn't bring new mechanics, people get pissed. People were very excited for the copper lamp, until they changed the one-game-tick delay for bedrock parity, removing any new mechanics.

      The cynical part of me is trying to think that this is not only a risk they're willing to take, it's flat out intended behavior. If you make mods more disjointed and stupid to use, then that's another step closer to being willing to just play bedrock in the first place, which is where Microsoft *really* wants you to be. Put that together with the java codebase becoming massively more bloated and difficult to run with every update and it all feels pretty well-orchestrated.
      That said, I'm very upfront with this being the *cynical* part of me saying this.

    I don't think minecraft (as a game) was ever in need to be "saved". Personally I think that minecraft is the best game created to current day and I don't think minecraft had "deadly" problems (one of the main reasons is that this game is still very popular. I do think that minecraft has it's flaws and problems some of them coming from the age of the game and some from just being bad updates but I wouldn't say they killed the game, at most they split the community.
    Now the community has some of its problems, probably the main one is that it's very split apart, but i don't think mojang can do much there.
    I personally would love to see in-preson minecraft events to be brought back.

    • @TheTrueCubicLlama
      @TheTrueCubicLlama  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, I certainly wouldn’t say Minecraft is dead either. It’s been on a minor downtrend in popularity, but this development change might be able to fix that. How major Minecraft’s flaws are really also depends on the player. For example, villager trading being unfair might be seen as a good thing to builders, meanwhile many extrinsically-motivated players think it’s terrible for the game. Still, I believe tending to these issues would be very good for the game in the long run, regardless of terminology.

  • @goofbawll
    @goofbawll 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    i like the idea of wounds. really sees the issues for what they are for the game.
    taking into account the fact that there’s been pretty big overhauls in terms of backend systems and i think we’re about to see the fruits of their labor.
    ever since 1.18 there’s been big swings in improving how the game functions like the lighting engine improvements the bigger old big fixes being addressed (not all of em tho lol) and the more data driven touch ups. overall just making a more stable game (for java at least)
    i think we’re already in this development cycle starting with the wolf changes and the focus on experimental features on a small scale. we’ve gotten what 2 or 3 changes this year alone in experiments that are kinda big for the game. idk i’m cautiously excited

      Same here, and I imagine they now took on this new update rhythm because the datapack improvements could allow them to make updates quicker.

  • @albericosessa2814

    I feel like there are three major problems here and if resolved can save Minecraft from it's downfall right now. The first major issue is obviously what you stated, Mojang needs to make more updates like the nether update, sadly now they're saying they're going to be doing the opposite of that with short quick updates rather than longer and better updates. I feel like Mojang isn't doing this because of how the community will attack them if they make the wrong changes, in fact I really don't think they care about the community that much because they don't really listen to them anymore, I feel like the truth is the second issue. The second issue is how I think Microsoft is having a firm grip on Minecraft's development, there's a video by a guy named cube dimension called Microsoft is preventing Mojang from improving Minecraft, I suggest you watch it to understand what I mean, but basically he's stating that a Mojang dev has stated that the core reason these updates are slower, getting less content, and not paying attention to their fans is because of how Microsoft's management is controlling them instead of listening to the community, like I said watch Cube dimension's video he explains it way more in detail. The third and final problem I feel like is an issue no one wants to mention, the truth is a lot of the "balancing" changes Mojang has made honestly not just make the game harder and less rewarding but ultimately turn the players away from Minecraft because of how Mojang is not just forcing the players to play a certain way such as how they've nerfed villagers and raid farms forcing players to not get creative and work smarter not harder when it comes to trades, but I feel like Mojang is ultimately not following the idea of hard not needing to be hard, the enjoyment people got from automatic farms and the old 1.15 villagers was that they worked to a moderate degree to get all of the farms, trading halls and everything else, and got heavily rewarded for their work. The pattern is how they worked to a moderate degree and got rewarded heavily, adding a truly fun factor to the game in how Mojang followed the idea of hard not needing to be hard but a moderate difficulty that had its challenges but was ultimately allowing for creative freedom and smarter thinking for the community rather than this new grind mindset Mojang has been enforcing. I don't care what you guys think honestly, I thought the villagers were perfectly fine before their nerf, they had decently priced trades, had good deals, and the best part being that if you lost diamond gear you could easily recover it from a maxxed out armorer villager that you still had to work to level up and get the emeralds for, but you were logically rewarded well for your moderately difficult work in the end, the same idea for netherite before its nerf. I feel like Minecraft's progression was perfect and truly fun, I think people are now adopting this grind mindset like Mojang is purely because Mojang started this idea and people are now just blindly following it, I think if these three problems can be solved, especially the third one by undoing most of the nerfs they've done and giving more creative and smart freedom to the player base and make the game less grindy, then Minecraft will be saved for the second time.

      hovering inferno aswell as the other 2 mobs from the 1.13 vote are never coming back , however anything from the votes after are on the table. as per mojangs words

      @@LowReso1ution the wildfire was in minecraft dungeons (being the only mob vote candidate to have gone from being a loser to being in a spinoff rather than the other way around) also it was apparently going to be in 1.16 before being cut for time, so I would say it has a good chance of making it into the game.

    I find this kind of annoying frankly, maybe it's because I run loads of mods but there are allready too many versions for my taste, I'd rather they do big dumps once a year. The modders can't keep up, so I end up compiling stuff myself with lib changes in gradle and only upgrading once everything is stable again.

    • @TheTrueCubicLlama
      @TheTrueCubicLlama  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Modding will definitely be trickier now. Hopefully things will be okay so long as modders can agree on what major versions to update to, just like most of them make sure their mods are on 1.19.2 or 1.20.1 now.

      @@TheTrueCubicLlama I definitely hear all your points. I played religiously for a long time, "best game of all time", huge community, always growing mindset etc., I don't know what it is, but I really lost steam at some point and enjoy others way more so now. I've been trying to get into an infdev -> current game going, at beta 1.5 now, but still- not really feeling it that much. The exploring I always enjoy, but when i set out to build something these days... i think of any number of other progresses I could make, in mc, in other games, in other things in general. just really lost the grasp on me, can't put my finger on it. oh yea, I will say some of the community.. really.. nah i don't want to be rude, but that's why i'm reply to where i am in this thread lol. a lot of unnecessary ego, a lot of interpersonal drama for no reason. the community just feels tired, i guess that's what i'm trying to say in the end.
